Thanks for talking about the bad parts of these products. Very informative. So many just praise products without given the good and bad. Love this video.
This is quite interesting. I used to handle audio for outdoor venues (concerts, stadiums, football fields, etc.), and its super interesting to see how far the industry has progress for indoor talk-centric audio. The stadium-wide wireless iPad-centered systems that allowed you to change the mastering across the field in real-time was incredibly cool stuff at the time, and this new tech is getting me the same excitement as those times in the yester-years.
I never thought anyone would ever fill the software engineer-audio nerd demographic lol. Very cool to hear you talk abt this stuff. Would love to here your takes on podmic too bc I have my own and have an on-off relationship with it. I assume this version is literally just the old podmic with a usb connection???
The Duo looks amazing and makes much more sense than the Pro 2 for many people. I’m still not sure if I would be able to replace the GoXLR in my setup though. It doesn’t do virtual audio routing does it?
Don’t know if this was your issue but this is a notice to anyone using this or RCP2. When I originally got the RCP2, I moved my 4th XLR to the virtual faders because I didn’t need it. While there was nothing fed into it and the virtual fader was up at unity, I was getting a tremendous amount of preamp noise despite all physical faders being down or muted. Took me a minute until I noticed what it was. I made sure to turn input gain and the virtual fader all the way down on mic 4. Poof, sound was gone. If anyone does that on Duo with Mic 2, be sure the virtual fader is down and the gain is also turned down on unused port.
@@michaelj.4187 surprised? Nope. It’s an extremely easy fix, one I remedied in about a minute. Just sharing a brief moment of user error in case anyone else had a momentary case of “duh.”
I still would argue that the GoXLR isn't 'dead' as these rode devices still doesn't have some features that the GoXLR has: -Virtual Audio routing via the routing table is A+ with the GoXLR, being able to filter music out of my stream mix is a MUST -the sample pad on the GoXLR is another feature I personally use all the time, holding down the sample pad to get some snippets from youtube and being able to play it back in that moment is something the Rode Caster Pro 2 doesn't have. (I have had the Rode Caster Pro 2 for around 5 days before it started to peel top right where the headphone knobs are, not impressed by that at all) I will say that the preamps on the Rode Casters are A+ though, with the GoXLR I get a hissing sound from the mic whenever i turn on my camera for a stream - it's only heard by myself but it is still frustrating - that wasn't an issue with the Rode Casters. overall Rode has done an amazing job with these devices BUT they've missed the mark with some of these features that the GoXLR has that would make them the perfect device.
I've had the Rodecaster Duo for two days now and can't get the audio from my Steam deck into the mixer without loud hiss. The only way I can get the audio in at the moment is using a 3.5mm Female TRS to Mono 1/4" Male TS Adapter and plugged that into the XLR port. Then plugged in a 3.5mm cable to 3.5mm cable into that adapter and connected it to the steam deck audio jack. I finally get audio but it hisses. Don't know why. Do I have a faulty XLR port?
Appreciate you talking about the DAC, with the type of headphones you pointed out that you use (Sennheiser HD800 ?) I'm not surprised you think the DAC is weak, aren't those headphones top of the line?, I wouldnt expect an "all-in-one" device for a reasonable price to be able to run those without noise. Surely the DAC in the Rodecasters cant be worse than the DAC in the GoXLR, I'm currently using a GoXLR with a Beyerdynamic MMX 300 2nd gen headset and I dont hear any noise, so if I decided to side-grade to a Rodecaster I should be fine. As a note: I could hear the hiss on the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless headset due to the built-in amp
Lack of midi input is really surprising, especially since they have midi capabilities already present. I mute my mic with a pedal all the time, way too convenient to give up during conference calls.
How would you compare the DAC/headphone amp of the RCD to the GoXLR? I currently have this chain: GoXLR line-out > Headphone amp (ifi Zen Can) > 450ohms headphones (Audio Technica r70x). This gives excellent sound quality for me. Would the RCD be able to drive these high impedance headphones noise/hiss-free without needing the external amp? If not, does the RCD have a line-out that can be connected to the line-in of the GoXLR? (may sound silly, but I want to keep the routing/recording/voice-effect functionality of the goxlr, while having a few more mic inputs with better EQ)
I bought the streamer x too, day 1. It’s great! The only all in one solution on the market right now below 500 euros! Usually rode hides some hardware that is not announced on day one. It would be great if they added a video signal circuit used to apply LUTs, or something like that
Is the hissing issue actually the DAC or the headphone amp? If it's just the amp, you could circumvent it in many cases by just running the speaker line input through an external headphone amp
Ok the audio is a major issue, and a major selling point! I was so excited for this and honestly this was going to be my vocaster replacement, but now i think i'm going to pass, so i need a second device just to confirm that the audio is not noisy, and also when i'm not creating or streaming all i do is listen to music while working, 50% headphones and 50% on monitor speakers... What a let down. It's an audio device! it has to be near perfect! Forget about the buttons, the one thing you expect is the audio to be on point... AH!!!
11:30 Damn, that’s a deal breaker for me. I just found this and thought this would be the ultimate dual PC sound setup… maybe not, if the DAC/AMP are so noisy 😕.
I use the Rodecaster pro 2. I generally use only two XLR ports but sometimes I have up to four in use. Probably no reason for me to get the other two right? Are these an upgrade or a sidegrade?
Its neat to hear your opinion about the Rodecaster's DAC! :D What're your thoughts on the built in DAC on the GoXLR? (if you have had a chance to try that out) They always told me that its a top tier DAC but I am somewhat skeptical xD
Had StreamerX for a whole 10min. Super buggy software - I managed to put some mic effect below 0dB and since then I was unable to launch said settings panel.
That's a big issue, i'm now thinking of not getting it and just go for the Lewitt connect 6... It's suppose to be audio accurate, it's for content creation! You can't really use it, there's still the need to get a different device to check the audio and the noise... Oh no!!!
I don’t have a rodecaster duo just yet, but that static can often be due to interference. Try moving the rodecaster duo to its own plug/powerstrip if the power cable is unbalanced.
i don't think the Duo is to replace your expensive Pro. I am here to see people's review for the Duo for us poor newbies who can't afford the Pro. I wished there was a real review dedicated to the Duo. Your review was so far the best from 4 videos i have seen. Everyone just kept saying it was "like the Pro 2" blah blah blah which to me was pretty annoying. Thanks for pointing out the negative stuff. I wonder is anyone has info about noise, input noise signal to noise ratio, and all those Objective reviews as well, not just the subjective reviews.
The mic monitoring on the duo is terrible, it sounds hollow, tinny, and weird. The final recordings sound alright but the monitoring audio is terrible, contacted their support and nothing helped, otherwise its a fine device
You are not alone with Streamer X problems. Thats the reason I will wait till mit 2024 maybe 2025 for streamer x 2.0. we need a tablet app to control, big downside and Lewitt hast same problem. the streamer x and Duo are like the most powerful race car standing at the start line, engine roaring make noise and... and... run like a slug
Dude...I thought I was going fucking insane about the DAC. Thank-you so much for validating it's a piece of shit 😅 you're literally the only review that's mentioned this like what the hell!
Thanks for talking about the bad parts of these products. Very informative. So many just praise products without given the good and bad. Love this video.
Thank you for touching on the DAC. I plan to listen to music through my interface and couldn't find details on it.

standard mode to turn the output off or absolutely minimised on any unused port, not sure why you're surprised...

With the xlr going out the streamer world I guess the rode duo is the new thing what you think?
How is the headphone monitoring latency on the duo?

Do you have any input on the wave xlr . Does the rodecaster duo blow that out of the water ?
Great Video. My Rodecaster Duo Record button turn grey instead of green. And can't record anything. Had no issue with mic connection. Any idea why?
Damn I love your setup in the background, do you have a setup tour somewhere? Would love to see everything :)
My Streamer X also has horrible hiss on the headphone out.
Theo what dac and amp do you use on for your open back headphones ?
hd800 on the wall… love mine! Just wanted to say that.. now I will listen to the rode review.
edit: And thanks for pointing out its not a great DAC

It came with the USB version! I think they sell them separate but I'm not sure

The noisy DAC is no joke. Genuinely, it's the worst I've ever heard. Sensitive IEMs squeal a loud hiss at all times. Unbearable.
