My mum used to make this. Now that she's bed ridden and has dementia, I made this for her. The way her face lit up when she ate it, was worth all the effort. Edit! Thank you all for your kind wishes. I just wanted to let you all know that she passed last year in January due to COVID.
Until few months ago, I wasn't much of a regular cook. But after lockdown I had to cook often as my mother often remained sick. She was suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease since 2016. I had such a hard time seeing her suffer. She would hardly eat, she was losing her appetite gradually. I tried my best to make every meal tasty for her, considering her renal diet. I followed this recipe of khichudi for lunch, though not exactly (as I had to cut down certain ingredients), and she liked it. And it was the last meal I prepared that she ate at home. She had to be taken to the hospital that very evening as her health was getting worse during those days. She passed away few weeks later on May 20 of this year, leaving me devastated. I am a single child, and the closest to mum, so I can say destiny hit me hard. I'm still struggling to cope with her loss. When this recipe popped up on my recommendations after 5 months of her passing, I couldn't help but write down my emotions. I still remember her faint smile, as she acknowledged that I have made a good khichuri. Thanks bong eats :)
So sorry for your loss 🙏 I can't even begin to imagine what losing a Mother would be like, I know I would be devastated as well. May you find strength 🙏
I'm a Malaysian here looking for a khichuri recipe.. i still remember the first time I ate khichuri made by my uncle.. he actually worked for our fmly for 15 years now he has gone back to Bangladesh and i missed him and i remember when i was a child he always made this for our fmly especially when it's rainy days.. now is the raining season here in Malaysia so I'm looking up for the recipe, thank you so much dear for the recipe.. lots of love from Malaysia.. i hoped my uncle and his fmly will always be in God's protection and be blessed with good health 🥺❤
Prepared this khichudi today for dinner for my Malaysian friends. I’m not an experienced cook but thanks to the accuracy of your video instructions, I ended up cooking something incredible. They all loved it and as a bong host it filled my heart with joy to be able share my food and my culture with them. This would’ve never been possible without your accurate recipes. Thank you so much. Because of you a bong who never knew how to cook is now able to prepare mouth watering dishes to the delight of his guests. Keep sharing more and more authentic Bengali recipes and I hope I can share our food experiences with the world.
I m Punjabi live Kolkata from childhood now half Bengali love to eat bhog kichuri and aloo dum .l hv try this kichuri recipe in Laxmi puja with niramish aloo dum and quantity bahut banaya tha but itna acha bana ki Kum par gaya thanka for this recipe.saraswati Puja is next week menu set, kichuri, aloo dum ,aam sato chutni, paresh, and husband dimand dokha dalna.🤤
Dear Bong Eats, Thanks so much for this recipe. Last week I got my first ever lot of gobindobhog rice (thanks to a bank manager who asked his parents in Cal to add it to the care package they were anyway sending him, which btw also had 2000 rupees worth of fresh hilsa!). When I opened the packet, I was blown away by the fragrance and decided the first recipe had to be a Bong Eats one. I followed every step and measurement down to the gram. At one point I wondered why I was taking this much effort over "just khichdi", but when it was finally ready and I had my first mouthful I could understand why it is considered a special treat. The flavour, the consistency, the aroma, the nuttiness... mmmmm this is definitely one of the top 10 dishes I've tried and been blown away by. Thanks so much for making it precise and easy.
Wow. We must first congratulate you for finding a bank that provides just that extra customer satisfaction. :D Yes, this khichudi is special and worth the extra effort to fry/roast everything separately. So glad you enjoyed it. :-)
Certainly your video brings nostalgia and since particularly we celebrated Durga Puja at my home premises. Today I am married and stay in a different state although my love for bhoger kichuri / moong dal khichuri has never diminished .the process in which it is made at my home is slightly different than what you have mentioned but I m sure it too shall taste heavenly! Thank you for keeping the bong alive away from country !
I just wanted to extend a massive heartfelt thanks for your videos. I live in Australia, and haven’t lived with my parents for over 10 years due to my studies. Watching your channel, reminds me of my favourite memories throughout my childhood, where I used to sit atop the kitchen bench, watching my mum cook delicious Bengali food for our family. When we visited our relatives back in Kolkata & Bardhaman, I loved watching my Didu and Thakuma cut up exotic vegetables with a 'boti' and crouch over the ovens in the ground, cooking these recipes, all of which are so close to my heart. I am now almost 30 and had given up on my ability to pass on these recipes to my future children however your channel has given me hope. The recipes taste exactly like what my mum and grandparents would make. Over the last month, I have been cooking a recipe from your channel each Sunday - it’s now one of my favourite weekend traditions. I am so thankful - and so is my Australian partner who now enjoys tasty Bengali food each weekend :)
bhog er khichuri hurls me down a lane laced with memories. the khichuri labra chutney and payesh would be in the same plate huddled in the warmth and love for each other and resulting in a unique satisfying taste. that came alive with this and thank you so much for all that you create.
Oh yes! Love eating the khichuri labra'r torkari, punctuated by some of the sweet chutney, or the creamy payesh. Add to that the smell of sal-leaf bowl. Thank you for leaving such a wonderful comment, Subarnasree! 💛
Is there some word in the dictionary which can describe the feeling that one has relished the dish by just seeing the beautiful visual imagery.... Trust me..I could taste it and relish it...so much so that I m inspired to make it for my sons nd self tomorrow itself... I just loved the recipe and moreso coz of the aesthetically designed presentation.... It brought back childhood memories of making khichudi for the big joint family of 20 with lots of khejur and tomato chutney nd papad with some maach bhaja...thank you so much... Appreciate your work...Kudos to the entire team...shall repost after making.
This recipe was forwarded to me by my husband, who is inclined to Bengali cuisines and music. Love your attention to details, accuracy in measurement, overall love for the flavour of food , its Annam brahma !!!. Am definitely trying this recipe along with Brinjal crisps mostly with cold pressed groundnut oil.
Came across this upload very recently and (my wife) tried it last Sunday. Definitely tasted different and better compared to what we usually have. Got the flavour and aroma of Gobindobhog after a long time. Only one small point - this is not exactly "bhoger khichuri" which has a slightly different hue and taste. Perhaps the divine intervention was missing when we did it. Great job though!
Hi. Goes without saying its a fantastic recipe, my favourite bhoger kichudi. I also want to add from bottom of my heart, your cooking and the flavour, taste every thing reminds me of my moms cooking, who is no more. Everytime I see an item and replicate it i get the same taste as her cooking. Thanks to both of you for giving me the chance to relive those days when she used to make all my favourite dishes. I actually do not have much words to Express my gratitude. Hope you understand. Wishing you all the best.
Omg the music is as soulful as the food..reminds me of a Mira Niar film. Bengalis have some of the best music in india..just touches your heart doesn’t it?!..much love from Fiji Islands 🇫🇯
Sarswati pooja ke din hamare college ka bhog yaad आ gaya ,yumm, aap ek bahut hi paerfect cook hai itni perfection maine aaz tak kisi me nahi dekha, dhero shubhkamnao sahit aap jaha rahe kushal rahe
I tried it today and it tastes awesome....My house was filled with the mouth watering aroma of the khichuri and my mind was flooded with the childhood memories when we relished this taste. Thanks!!
When you live all alone in a far away city and watch this video.. Well it makes you miss home.. Miss Kolkata.. Miss all the good old pujo days with Maayer haather bhoger khichdi so damn much! Your videos are so damn amazing!
You’re videos are hands down the absolute best cooking videos around .. so very soothing to watch in the era of Tasty - style minute long videos . I feel I am taken back to my moms, dida’s old world style of cooking with love and patience which no wonder resulted in food you dream of for years . Thanks so much , can’t wait to recreate them all in my own time .
My Maa is an excellent cook . She not only makes dishes tasty but also healthy. And let me tell you that I am a big...... fan of her Khichuri which she makes with love & adds dalia & lots of veggies. So it's on fire all the time ☺☺
I have been making khichuri bhog for kojagori lokhi pujo since the last 15 years so its lovely to see this video but we do not add coconut . Secondly we add the tempering at the end gives it an awesome smell and flavor. Nowadays its difficult to find orginal gobindo bhog especially if ur not based in Kolkata so it is best to pressure cook the dal for about one whistle and then add to rice else rice becomes overcooked and the dal remains uncooked.
I am not fond of cooking. But when you get a sudden urge of eating khichuri in the freezing cold temperature of New York, you have no other options but to cook it yourself. I searched for a lot of recipes, but Bong Eats struck a chord with me. The clear instructions, precise ingredient measurements, and that beautiful sound effect - all of these made a perfect recipe video. Hats off to you guys for your passion, and trust me it really shows in these beautifully crafted videos in your channel. And bdw my khichuri turned out to be great, thanks again for this amazing receipe.!!
I cooked this recipe today believe me it was yum...Atlast i added roasted cumin , first i rosted the cumin then I made a powder out of it n added to my khichdi ...I even added onion at first wen i ws preparing the masala ... A+ recipe lovely One must try Puro bhoger khichuri moto khete hoy
Hi yesterday I tried this wit normal cooking rice taste is awesome really me and my husband enjoyed a lot this is first time tried Bengali recipes really it Gud next time I will prepare wit jeera sambha rice
While Jeera samba rice will be good but i would definitely recommend to use Govinda Bhog rice for this recipe. These days you will find Govinda Bhog rice in all major cities in India. (you can also find it in online grocery sites). This rice has a very distinct and unique sweet aroma (different from Basmati or Jeera samba) which works excellent for this dish.
Bhog er khichuri is❤️ and being brought up in West Bengal, I miss the Ashtami Khichuri more. I would wait all the year for it. Just loved the way you cooked.. will definitely try this out!😊
Cooked this for the occasion of manasha Puja today. It's soooo yummmm....whole family loved it so much...thank you insiya and saptarshi for giving us amazing recipes throughout ❤️
I recreated this only without coconut and peas as these were not available..and this was my first take on khichuri. It came off really well and I was flooded with compliments from ma and baba. Thank you Bongeats.. I will definitely try more of your recipes. P.S. : Saptarshi, I am your junior from South Point, :-) also Insiya, I have done my Masters from J.U 😃
One of the best presentation seen ever. Please post more. I am a professional chef running a Indian restaurant from more than 10 years. I could not have done better than this. Khub bhalo.
pujor bhoger gorom gorom khichuri labra aloor dom chatney and PAYESH ... if comfort food ever needs any definition then that is definitely these foods , at least in a bengali's heart . i am salvating even just looking at the ingredients ... i can literally smell the khichuri right now .... love your videos ... thank you for making all these videos ...believe it or not my heart is totally satisfied by just only looking at this video and listening to the background music !!!
Thank you, Anannya for the wonderful comment. The Bengali khichuri is truly a dish that is comforting and grand at the same time. শেষে একটু চাটনি, আর পায়েস হলে কোনো কোথায় নেই।
Currently on a binge watch session of your videos and love the detail, precision and the little nuggets of info which pop up here and there! Makes for a very enriching experience. Speaking of khichuri, there's also one version made with mushur er dal, lots of vegetables and onions. Rainy day bliss with dim bhaja. Would love to watch your take on it sometime!
To all those with myriad problems in life.. as to veg or non veg bhogs and everything!!! These people are putting in some quality effort in preserving bengali traditions!! The term "Bhog er khichuri" simply means Khichuri cooked in the same style as one would while making it for bhog!! No where have they claimed that they are gonna offer it to the deities!! As for some of the long debates.. here is a thought for you guys. While most of the deities are offered vegetarian bhog, a large number of temples as well as households (especially in Eastern India:- Bengal, Assam etc etc) offer fish and mutton as bhog to the presiding deity. Hell, I have even heard of this weird concept of Niramish Mangsho (Mutton cooked without onions and garlic, hence making it niramish) offered as bhog. And since nothing could be more paradoxical than that, I think everyone should hold their peace with this video!!!
Oh Dear!! I did forget about that phenomenon known as Vegetable Biriyani!! I did have it once though, because shei din amar shob kota bondhu vegetarian chhilo and I did not want to be rude!! But again coming back to Niramish Mangsho, I think you guys can research about it. Apparently it is made with pure ghee, gota gorom masala and I think Hing (somewhat on the lines of what Kashmiri Pandits would make). I have never had the courage to attempt it, but you guys can try, since you are wonderful chefs.
Love how artistically this video has been filmed. Felt like I was watching a movie. As a video journalist, I have seen and created many recipe videos and I really admire whoever filmed this. Great work!
Mahalaya r din ei recipe ta dekhchi... I follow the same method, but sometime skip the coconut... Khichuri and Egg Omelette... just atulonio... chailye jao boss... gooli maro ke ki bollo...
This music!! It always takes me to the period of Tagore. So soothing and peaceful music. And the food 🥘 oh i am sorry can’t explain my expression enough.too yammy
Had tried this earlier but with lesser ingredients. Made it again today, following all your instructions. Turned out amazing. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Thanks also for the tips you generally share.
Please do try it, Anusuya. The kochuri, and alu'r marvellous torkari are definitely in our list. BTW, really liked the videos on your channel! Why did you stop?
This is why, Prasad of khichhri is so tasty and yummy 😋, I always try to take that khichri whenever I see its serving to bhakt jan... I always tried to make at home, but I could not do it because of wrong resepi, now I know the process, thanks bro... love you... now i will make it for my family members also to make them taste the Bengal puja’s khichri...

Thank you so much.Made today for Asthami bhog and it turned so so yummy. I fail all the time in making this and surprisingly my all family members relished and enjoyed for it's unique taste.Loads of love
It's Maha Ashthami today... my husband and I made kichuri, labra, begun bhaja and payesh (all guided by the videos you've posted). We did it this year, especially, remembering my baba who passed away in May this year. Since my childhood, I saw him get ready and go to the pandal first thing in the morning. He didn't wait for anyone. He was excited from day 1! Loved all the dishes that we made. I imagine he's smiling looking at us.
Way to turn a simple dish made in pressure cooker into a red carpet recipe. There is no need to even fry the vegetables separately. It's weird how over complicated they have made it. N there is never omelette with bhog er khichuri. Call it just khichuri then. Weirdos.
Hahaha... actual bhoger khichuri is everything put in large scale and rough hand without any precession in the amount of salt sugar or spices...yet turns out to be awesome treat... that's bhog er khichuri...this one is as you have rightly said...a red carpet affair we put forward when our guests come down during a chilly or rainy afternoon and we decide on this Bengali delicacy...LOL
@@sunitasubramoniam7916 ...we Bongs are born and brought up eating and preparing this delicacy...my mom was in hospital when I first tried my hands in kitchen...this is the dish I prepared for the first time...my father is a mountaineer...this is the dish he used to prepare up in the snow clad mountains equipped with a sole pressure cooker n stove...my in-laws celebrate Laxmi and Saraswati puja in grand scale my mom in law used to feed bhoger khichuri to the whole area , who used to visit our place, she continued same tradition in Mumbai where our South and North Indian friends came and relished this dish...when you ask us to prepare and taste it...I could make out you really know very little about Bongs...

Today I made khichuri, following your recipe. I just can’t believe how you guys have turned our simple food into such an exquisite dish!!! Khichuri has a very special place in my heart. It connects me with my late “thamma” and my school, Brahmo Girls’... I still go to school on 31st Jan to participate in our “Praktoni” meet and eat khichuri with my childhood friends 🥰 Stay blessed 😇😊 Stay safe

Made this tonight. It was absolutely sensational. Best khichdi ever!
I cooked this recipe today believe me it was yum...Atlast i added roasted cumin , first i rosted the cumin then I made a powder out of it n added to my khichdi ...I even added onion at first wen i ws preparing the masala ...

Hi yesterday I tried this wit normal cooking rice taste is awesome really me and my husband enjoyed a lot this is first time tried Bengali recipes really it Gud next time I will prepare wit jeera sambha rice
+parvathy paru So good to hear! Thank you for trying it out. It's going to taste even better with jeera samba. 🙂
While Jeera samba rice will be good but i would definitely recommend to use Govinda Bhog rice for this recipe. These days you will find Govinda Bhog rice in all major cities in India. (you can also find it in online grocery sites). This rice has a very distinct and unique sweet aroma (different from Basmati or Jeera samba) which works excellent for this dish.
sourav chatterjee Gobindobhog is not available in the US
Omg.... I hav no words to express my feeling after watching this bogh khichdi....
Khub bhalo.
I am not bengali but I still enjoy watching this
mon bhore gelo...my fave combination on rainy days, khichuri n omlette!!!
It's not a cook ,it is an art❤️
Believe me, no one, no one but you can detail such specifics. You guys are amazing. Period
pujor bhoger gorom gorom khichuri labra aloor dom chatney and PAYESH ... if comfort food ever needs any definition then that is definitely these foods , at least in a bengali's heart . i am salvating even just looking at the ingredients ... i can literally smell the khichuri right now ....
love your videos ... thank you for making all these videos ...believe it or not my heart is totally satisfied by just only looking at this video and listening to the background music !!!
Thank you, Anannya for the wonderful comment. The Bengali khichuri is truly a dish that is comforting and grand at the same time. শেষে একটু চাটনি, আর পায়েস হলে কোনো কোথায় নেই।
akdommm!!!!! kaju kishmish elach soho payesh ....
অসাধারণ উপস্থাপনা। চেনা খিচুড়ি রান্না এমন নয়নাভিরাম হয় সত্যিই জানতাম না।
Currently on a binge watch session of your videos and love the detail, precision and the little nuggets of info which pop up here and there! Makes for a very enriching experience.
Speaking of khichuri, there's also one version made with mushur er dal, lots of vegetables and onions. Rainy day bliss with dim bhaja. Would love to watch your take on it sometime!
Khub bhalo laglo thank you
To all those with myriad problems in life.. as to veg or non veg bhogs and everything!!!
Hear, hear!
On a lighter note: we can think of a bigger paradox than Niramish Mangsho--Vegetable Biriyani.
+Sagnik Gangopadhyay Yes, we have a friend who makes Niramish Mangsho for Kali Pujo. We haven't tried cooking it yet.
Oh goody!! Looking forward then!!

Thank you so much.Made today for Asthami bhog and it turned so so yummy. I fail all the time in making this and surprisingly my all family members relished and enjoyed for it's unique taste.Loads of love
Paneer biryani ta plz kora dakhaban........

Kichuri Amar sob theke priyo khabarer modhye ekta . Khub khub dhonnobad ei recipe ta dekhanor jonno . Thank you Bong Eats 😊😊😊😊😊
Did you try making it before spewing sarcasm? The recipe is precise and beautiful and absolutely delicious. Try it!
I tried this at home. My family loved it. Thank u so much for this lovely recipe... Soon I will cook it for my bengali in laws . ❤️
Such precise instructions and your step by step instructions are absolute key to perfection.
