One useful thing you can add to the truck is a telescoping ladder. In its collapsed state it is small enough to store in a larger bin or behind a seat. In the extended state they come in 10 or 12 foot tall ladders. Great for those times you need to see the top of the trailer or push the snow off if the cops in the area are targeting trucks for it. Also good for those times you bet someone you have a x foot ladder in your truck.
Thank you sir for posting these two videos. I've never had anything to do with refrigeration trailers but today I've learned a world of information about them. I felt like I was right there with ya. :-)
Look at your refer fuel tank. Notice that air chuck at the top ? After you fuel the tank put a shot of air into the tank to pressurize enough to push fuel up to the engine. Noticed you had an air hose to connect to your red tractor air line,,that would work too. If you raise the hood of the tractor Freightliners usually have a big brass starting lug. Position the tractor close to the refer unit and you will only need about 6 ' of jumper cable. No shrouds or flashlights needed either. Quite possible a receiver left the unit on after emptying product,,not the last driver. Good luck,,enjoy your videos. Regards
Longer cables or a boost pack, I figured you would need the truck to reach the battery. Well first time usually solves the second. odd they don't put battery lugs on both sides of the unit externally.
that was soo awesome! my palms were sweating here at home watching you. I have never had to jump one of those, and would of been forced to call a reefer mechanic. you rock Johnny! peace out
What would have been more help than a longer set of jumper cables, would have been to loosen that small red knob. That is the air bleed, opening it while priming the fuel system lets the air get out of the system.
Good morning John or good night Wherever You Are I guess we're going to say something may your angels guide you to your destination and may God keep you safe
Since you have been running with ADL, I don't recall you ever saying anything about servicing the reefer units, maintenance on the motor, compressor, etc. When is this done? That motor must run up huge numbers of hours.
just another example of the crap one can encounter as a trucker.. you handled it well considering how frustrated you must have been - talk about time being shot! Good job JBG!
Buy a booster jump start pack! 'been doing reefer 15 years and it was the best $150 I ever spent. Priming a reefer sucks on a good day. We keep on trucking though. :)
So sorry for your troubles, I recommend a lithium ion battery jump starter instead of jumper cables I have one from amazon that almost fits in my pocket that has saved me several times, claims it can jumpstart over ten dead batteries on one charge mine would work great on the reefer battery but they make one big enough for blue. Anyway you are in my prayers and God willing no more bad jokes on Johnny be good. The one I have cost $99 but the one big enough for a big rig is about $250 I think/the one I have is a Noco genius boost GB40 if your interested look it up on amazon and you will see them all and any accessories you might need
next time use the battery under your cat walk that's hook to the sleeper...... this happened to me before an the service man did that... boom started right up
You should get mechanics pay while you were doing this, because you didn't have to pull one away from another job to get the refer running. Lol. Awesome job
You got another problem, how will you log this time? On duty or off duty! I would log it as on duty but that also will affect your driving time, all well tell the company what happen.....
Legend has it that the refer unit stalled out again and old Jonny is still there trying to prime it😂

Great video John, almost as good as the one where you had to get wheels changed on the trailer. Top man!

One of my favorite JBG videos!
Good job JBG you have much patience. The battery terminals on your rig need attention they're all corroded.
Break out the either
that was soo awesome! my palms were sweating here at home watching you. I have never had to jump one of those, and would of been forced to call a reefer mechanic. you rock Johnny! peace out
Thanks Wayne
Good for you John this is a prime example of why I only pulled dry box's reefer just wasn't my thing ! LOL !
Halfway through and this is one of your best videos ever
I feel like McGover lol
A jumper post sure comes in handy when hauling reefer trailers. I'm surprised your truck didn't have one and sure hope you have one now.
What would have been more help than a longer set of jumper cables, would have been to loosen that small red knob. That is the air bleed, opening it while priming the fuel system lets the air get out of the system.
Also' could have pulled the fuel filter off and filled it with fuel.
I gave you a like just for your patience getting it going as id have driven the truck straight through it long before it got started lol.
It's allliiive! ahaha Way to go, JBG!
I feel like a rocket scientist! Oops too close lol
Excellent job under adverse conditions!
To open that side reefer door, where the battery is, you have to twist those clamps, all the way
now you can call yourself a diesel tech
And a know it all... lol
an awesome victory JBG!
Good morning John or good night Wherever You Are I guess we're going to say something may your angels guide you to your destination and may God keep you safe
frickin cables are full of corrosion. not much maintenance there.
I know this is a older video but brother your patients is legendary! I would have taken a sledge hammer to that reefer in the first 60 seconds.
Two Thumbs up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good job . The man of the hour
Thanks for your videos John. While driving hatcam videos are the best viewpoint. Have a safe travel.
I will do some today.
Looking foward to it. Thank you again!
Thanks for the video.
God bless
That's how you do it John! Stay safe out there.
If I were your boss, I would be glad you figured it out, and didn't cost me money, way to go JBG!
Christmas bonus perhaps?
You do know you can hook it up to the lug on the starter and ground it out on the unit frame right?
Wow that really sucks someone not checking the fuel while in the yard.. I hope you get extra pay- Mechanics pay
you are the champion my friend.
You know your stuff. Kudos!
Johnny be Tested!
And there is life!
Good job!
Note to self : get longer jumper cables and save myself and hour and aggravation!
From the video those cables looked plenty long to reach the side of the truck.
Next stop ....Walmart for a folding deer stand ladder to reach those reefers lol
a step lader would be nice haha

Is the refer not wired to get a battery charge off the trailer when it's plugged into the truck?
So sorry for your troubles, I recommend a lithium ion battery jump starter instead of jumper cables I have one from amazon that almost fits in my pocket that has saved me several times, claims it can jumpstart over ten dead batteries on one charge mine would work great on the reefer battery but they make one big enough for blue. Well with the APU on board, I don’t need that
First connect the positives. Then connect negative to live battery. Then connect other negative to a ground.
I wouldn't think that the reefer is grounded to the trailer chassis I'm sure it's seperate so you would need the negative cable too
I agree. The grease on the fifth wheel wouldn't allow grounding.
I didn't want to separate my cables..
next time use the battery under your cat walk that's hook to the sleeper...... this happened to me before an the service man did that... boom started right up
Now, you tell him. LOL
Your boss going to think you lost it Johnny lol
Food for thought get yourself a jumper box
Great Job !
They make you prime it that way so you don't let it run out of fuel next time :)
Good work brother..
HURRAY! JBG is the best! :D
Interesting. Somehow it never occurred to me the reefer had its own battery
Johnny you are so awesome
Way to stick with it. You really kept your cool considering how long it took. Stay safe out there. Peace
Thank you very much David
you are a good driver
Hey Johnny..... Manuel would be proud! - Carlos
Nail biting video Carlos
Sir Bob Indeed it was, Bobby. One of the most interesting ones in a while. I'm so far behind in watching, I'm glad I picked it randomly.
way to go Big John coming to Albuquerque any time soon? would love to meet you.
Loosen the nuts on the injectors until u see fuel.........the 4 nuts right above hand primer
You remind me of Tom Hanks in Castaway when he started a fire pounding his chest :)
I think we all know the feeling of the when somin your working on finaly starts
Good job Larry., ..er I mean John. lol
Great job keeping your cool!!! I know alot of guys that would have went off you what I mean.
You Did it, JBG.....
Way to go JBG!!!! Why did the truck shut off right before you got the reefee going?
Alright John! And BabyBlue to lol!
Doesnt the apu charge the battery? And the apu is in the back whith battery cables running to it ? Just saying..
Nice job.
A little bit happy there Johnny? Be safe.
What is a button that you push down on the refrigerator
Man u have alot of patience
Boss was watching.

Good job 👍
good job
I have the same feeling Jay LOL
You got it
You should get mechanics pay while you were doing this, because you didn't have to pull one away from another job to get the refer running. Lol. Awesome job
18:44 When someone is trying to mess your day up, but you Outsmart them. #HardWork 🙏🏽💪🏽
All that work that driver does not get payed for. :(
Agh, just watched this, theres a tricpac right there!! I'm sure you figured that out by now. @4:05
You da MAN!!!!
So that's how it's done.....
Your APU most likely has a closed fuel filter that is problem with them 9 out of 10 times.
you are the best. peace for the world.
You got another problem, how will you log this time? On duty or off duty! I would log it as on duty but that also will affect your driving time, all well tell the company what happen.....
good video jbg
Merhaba Çok güzel video
Good it’s works good job
How did you know that door had been doing that for weeks and weeks if you're not the one that let it run out of fuel
bet you went and got some 24' jumper cables
how do you get reimbursed for your repair services ????
good job john.peace
Need to get a little jump pack
I would sujest a jump box. Youv'e had to do a few jumps.
Need a battery access door on the side
Why did you do it in the first place?????
It wasn't me. :)
You should look at getting a jumper pack for these instances johnny
Add a 4-5 ft ladder as part of yur emergency kit
that was c00L!!😄
should have into Bowman's shop and asked to borrow a step ladder
