- It's been on the cards for a long time but finally here it is, the 2020 #Aprilia #RS660... and we've ridden it at the press launch in Italy.
The forward-facing parallel twin makes 100bhp, weighs 169kg (dry), is laden with technology, looks like the RSV4, costs £10,150 and made our guest road tester, Adam Child, very happy indeed. Our full review is at BikeSocial.co.uk but feast you eyes and ears on the RS660 right here, right now.

Never been a fan of Aprillia but hell this piece of art just changed my mind
You stunned fron the start, every moyorcyclist HAVE TO love Aprilia and Moto Guzzi ;)
Never been a fan of sportsbikes but hell, this piece of art changed my mind
Same same, was torn btw buying Ducati V2 or waiting for the new Triumph Daytona but now gonna get this.
Me too, specially those led DRL makes it look super sporty🔥
I don't like the new aprilia (the whole brand), but I ADORE the 2strokes they made in the '80s and '90s. It's impossible to NOT like this brand. They are so niche and such a small manufacturer, still, they give everything a try: enduro, dakar, allroad, trial (world champion !) 2 stroke road racing, 4 stroke road racing, SBK, motoGP etc.
I've ridden nothing but GSXR 750's for the past fifteen years. This thing is going in my garage next. Finally someone recognizes most riders don't care about 200hp superbikes that cost more than a new car lol. Parallel twins have more than proven their worth.
Ever since I went from my R3 to my MT09 I wanted a bike with the 09s power but in the 'semi sport' package of the R3. This looks like exactly what I had in mind. My only potential issue is I'm not sure I trust the reliability of Aprilia. But I'm definitely willing to give the bike a look.
Well said...200bhp+ is just a status symbol, but can you really ride it on the road? No. For me there are two perfect bikes the Tuono and the new Super Duke both sub 200, but what fun.
Remigus Ker have you thought about the Honda CBR650R? About the same power (96 BHP), relaxed sporty riding position, 4 cylinders, looks great like a baby-blade, and has Honda reliability (and it’s a good whack cheaper too). Just a thought.
@@cp4512 I've thought about it aye and it's a handsome bike. But after riding one I found it just a touch sluggish feeling down low and the bike itself is a bit heavy and clumsy feeling in comparison to my 09. That said I still get the impression it's a good bike overall, but the 09 has spoiled me a bit on the "excitement" factor the 650R seems to lack.
... be honest with yourself...
I mean, if you are happy with 100hp it's okay, but riding a >200hp bike is absolutely another level of experience.
Owned a 1098s and now riding the new Gixxer 2019... Honestly I can't feel satisfied riding 600cc or 800cc, even if on the road they can be more "fun"...
As the owner of a 17 Tuono Factory I have to say this bike checks a lot of boxes. Aprilia have upped their UI with new left-side controls and an updated TFT. I'm really surprised at how good the intake and exhaust sounds are from the parallel twin. I'll never get rid of the Thunderbuggy but this would make a nice addition to it.
Well said Mike, we have to agree. Like many folk, we got all excited when we first saw the prototype a couple of years ago and thankfully the reality is just as good if not better.
Cheers, Michael
thunderbuggy good handle for em got a tuono their deffo a good bike
I downsized from 17 Tuono to the 890R cuz the 660 was no where in sight. Gonna to try the bike out once I can swing my leg over one to see if I need to swtich again haha.
@@HangOnHangOff aye lol i know wot you mean
I have a Tuono as well and I've been dying to get this little bike. Still gonna rock the Tuono for my default bike but the RS660 looks like an all around amazing package for track and street.
This feels like the new age/ modern SV hole thats been left open since Suzuki refuse to modernise in a non-inept manner left the market open and these will fly out of the window! Looks beast, sounds great, plenty of power for those moving up to full A licence and beyond- very clever move from Aprilia.
Agreed on all but the sound. Twins just all sound terrible to me.
You forget the SV650 is half the price and a completely different riding style. Nothing wrong with that bike for its intended purpose.
Can't agree more!
@@drewmorg. Good points- However I meant it as a generality in sales and impact to the market rather than honing in on specifics- in which case these two bikes are leagues apart rgd spec
how if suzuki change the sv650 with recursion 588 twin + turbo
Really looking forward to checking out the Tuono 660 next year.
Nice vid. Really like this bike. Got perfect road performance if a bit pricey but not a deal breaker. On the road it's much more fun to thrash a small bike than tiptoe about on a big one imo.
Also smaller bikes tend to be faster and less tiring to ride in twisty roads.
Didnt know that 660cc is considered a small bike
@@shuttzi9878 Maybe smaller rather small is better description. 600cc always used to be a middleweight when I stated riding but now anything up to 900cc is considered a middleweight. However the terms are now used more for performance than size it seems these days. Either way the RS660 seems to have just the right amount of road performance for me at least.
@@ragerider6283 Yeah, i rly don't see the reason why people use these terms in supersports nowadays. I mean supersport category should be an exception to the L-M-H naming cuz theyre really a league of their own.
On a overall bike scale i would call RS660 a semi-sport middle weight bike for casual riders.
this yellow color look unreal good, definetelx will buy this bike
The yellow and red (wheels) look tedious together, lol.
@@DoctorStrange01 well, every person has different opinions if it comes to looks
@@Klvierdaninho97 I know, but how can yellow and red match together is beyond me anyway. I don't know what they've ment with that. I can already tell that maybe 10% will be sold in this color, or less. Black and Violet/Purple ones are million times better. Now if they change the wheels to black, it wouldn't look half bad.
@@DoctorStrange01 yes the red wheels on the yellow are awful , for me colored wheels are generally awful and you need to clean them every day or they look like crap.
@@DoctorStrange01 If you gotta change the wheel color, at least change them to Aprilia's classic dark blue Factory color. That is unquestionably the best color combination with the yellow body.
FINALLY A GOOD BIKE WITH HIGH END TECH, REASONABLE POWER, EXCELLENT RIDEABILITY, REALLY NICE LOOKS AND NOT A HUGE PRICE TAG
Yeah, well it depends on where you live but 100hp isn't necessary but I think it's nice to have a little more oomph than for example an SV650
This is such a clever pitch from Aprilia. Super bikes are just ridiculous for the road, it’s an ego buy. They look great but are a waste. This bike fits into its own category where everyone wants to go but didn’t realise. Enough power, great looks, user friendly and different and exciting enough. BOOM 💥
Especially the 600's which are completely inaccessible on the bottom end. I have 10x more fun riding Enduros dirtbikes on the road because of the torque.
💯 % agree
I would really like more of those bikes too. However the only other one I know is the Ducati Supersport which isn't really a bargain either 😅
@@drewmorg. It's all about the torque i totally agree with you. It's so much more fun and useable. have a street triple which is great, but prefer the character of a twin or single.
@@HelloJamesBond The thing people forget about street riding is sometimes you have to slow down for traffic ahead and it's not always enjoyable to constantly switch down 2-3 gears to be in the right RPM to take off again. Having that extra low torque takes your mind off things and lets you drive a bit lazier and just enjoy yourself! Everyone loves shifting up and down for the canyons, but in traffic? NO!
They wont be able to keep up with demand. Brilliant job Aprilia.
Supersports have been in very low demand for years now, some Japanese manufacturers have skipped production years entirely, and the smallest sports bike that Aprilia's closest rival (Ducati) sells now is over 900cc.
Even if this bike is great, it'll probably be a sales flop.
@@BigUriel doubt it a perfect alternative to mt07 sv 650
I think the naked version will sell better.
@@BigUriel maybe, but I think the Tuono 660 is going to sell like crazy.
@@iamthemobey how much more upright do people want to sit?
Child's fast becoming my favourite reviewer along with 2 of the 3 44 teeth guys. Good stuff thanks
This looks like an amazing learner bike for the track. I learned on an SV650 and had a couple spills that would have easily been avoided with some electronic intervention. Until other manufacturers step up their game, I feel like this may even be THE road and track all-rounder for novice / intermediate track riders that that only want / can only afford one bike. Looking forward to the track review. Excited to hear what that engine sounds like uncorked as well!
Wait... It has a fuel gauge?!
Aprilia must gone mad in the covid crisis.
It's probably not working
Ikr
lol, finally they're learning - my 2020 Ducati still doesn't have one - ridiculous!
@@DarwinAllen i rather not have the gear selection on meter than a fuel gauge...
@@polong99 who said anything about getting rid of the gear indicator? There's more than enough room for both. The sensor tech to measure fuel in a tank, even if it's sloshing around, is both very good and very cheap now. The whole weight savings argument for not including them on high performance bikes is a laugh and a half and the tech is cheap. I think it's one of those things I'll just never understand...
Interested to try this but poke all the rider aids on a 100hp bike really not needed! Well apart from the cornering ABS that's always handy. Shame it's not 120 hp but sure it's going to be brilliant as a road bike and like you say bridges that gap between 125 and Tuono for Aprilia. Very keen to try one in the UK ASAP
Lamb Chop Rides it it is good to see they didn’t skimp on it. The future is good and bad, lots of restrictions but lots of tech!
would you take this over an 890 duke r?
The reason that they capped it at 100hp is so they can sell it to A2 market in Europe and also learner approved market ( LAMS ) here in Australia hell even the engine is 660cc because that's the max that is allowed for learners in Australia
@@djapse Nah not me.
@@djapse No
See! This is what a good company does. They makes things you didn't know you wanted until they make it. And damn, I don't just want this bike, I need it. Before i even sit on it. I need it.
Personally I'm waiting for the Tuono 660 but it's good to know the engine is well handling. I was a bit worried about how a 660 Parallel twin would feel with 100 horse power... I think an Aprilia is going to be my next bike ^^'
waiting to supermotify the touareg
@@carlosandleon Yeah that one looks rather promising as a contender to the Tenere, even though it'll probably be a lot more expensive.
Personally I prefer to stay on the road xD
Isn’t there a Tuono version on its way too? Would add even more practicality to what sounds like a pretty nice package.
yes, there is.
AND there'll be a Factory and Track version.
This platform is gonna feature both the Tuono and the upcoming Touareg adventure bike - as well as most likely Factory versions of each model. It will be a tough competitor to the current 650 class of bikes.
When you get it to the track it would be interesting to see you red line it in each gear to see how fast it is.
A comfortable sportsbike that you don’t have to rev to 12,000rpm. Perfect 👌
The exhaust note is simply...fantastic!
Looks like this bike needs a second look...a usable and sporty, real world 'road' bike.
Very nice.
this was the review I was waiting for! the first one I watch for this bike! well done
Some wicked electronics there !! This is definitely on my test ride short list.... Looks amazing too ! aprillia always quality 👍
Only 1 or 2 % of us bike riders can use a superbike 1000 to its full potential this perfect 100hp is enough for most of us.
So true, those riders are pros and they crash all the time!
*Finally a sport bike which normal people can ride*
Ride...you ride a bike
I’m pretty sure one pilots a bike
Starting on a 600 great idea
and afford...
@@dangothdangoth5449 You are correct sir. you indeed pilot a bike
The acid gold colour scheme is just way too much to handle 🔥🔥
Normally I hate yellow, don’t even know why it exists in this world. But the yellow paint job looks so sexy!
This is the first bike I liked of this brand
Stunning beauty🔥😍
Me too
When you make a non rider want a bike you have won! This is a great machine!
Rennie Scaysbrook just had one at Laguna Seca and out along Hwy 1 in Big Sur. Missed him by a matter of hours, darn! Cannot wait to see one.
I think Aprilia are going to sell a lot of these, it's one heck of a bike...
love the colour schemes. Yellow and RSV tricolore throwback look brilliant...... sounds good too
....and it's design is 100% Aprillia gorgeous 😍
It’s a Minitwin, an up to date SV650!
Great review. I was hoping for the same as you. Perhaps we had it good in the eighties with screeming tzrs, nsrs, rs250s and the 400 4 cyclinder 4 strokes.. a fun era even if the modern bikes are ultimately better.
This is a really nice bike. Well done. Great price-point. I think they will murder with this. Total beaut!
I feel like all parallel twins should be cross plane like this and the mt-07. It just sounds sooooo much better
I like the variety
@@carlosandleon one sounds incredibly boring and drab and lifeless, the other sounds like an engine
@@chasp_0784 doesn't matter
@@carlosandleon perfect summary of a conventional p twin sound
@@chasp_0784 There's more than just two configurations. There are four in production at the moment: 360, 285, 270, 180. Each different. I like the variety.
EDIT: and who can forget the mighty, mighty 315??! Nuda.
Wauuuwiiii the sound doesn't like parallel twin, but the sound like v4(rsv4)😍
Looks so good and in terms of practically I bet there is any other mid range sports bike that will rival it.
What a Beauty! I need one. Preferably Yellow.
This is the most perfect bike
It depends. For the same price, you can get new Kawasaki ZX6R which has 30% more horsepower. Not those fancy electronics as Aprilia, but no need for too much electronic stuff on 600 cc.
@@sufilms8878 for me the xz6r looks way worse
@@sufilms8878 well you see not everyone wants the max horse power or the quickest acceleration ,sometimes we just want to enjoy the bike on a curvy road while being in full control of the bike and in comfort.
but i do get what you are trying to say.
Can't wait for the new rsv4 with these looks and electronics but with the 200+hp
My thoughts exactly. The looks are what turned me off of the RSV4 and the Tuono (and the ergos, they're a little cramped) and why I went with the V4 Panigale and Streetfighter. I really like this more modern design language. It's all subjective, but I just can't get excited about a bike that looks like the 10 year old version of itself.
They hit the jackpot with this bike. Period.
Tuono 660 has really got me excited, tuono vs street triple will be interesting
St3 will be quite a lot faster on a straight line since it has 100cc and 1 cylinder more.
@Bernd DasBrot lol, more power = faster
@Bernd DasBrot when you apply torque over time it is called power. Power = torque * rews.
Four cylinder engine can reliably rew higher than engine with fewer cylinders. You use gearing to get the peak engine power down to the ground at any speed.
@Bernd DasBrot what kind of machines are we comparing? Different displacement? Weight? Geometry?
What kind of street riding? Highway? Tight twisties? Fast flowing turns? How about speed limits?
Same displacement engines with different cylinder numbers make roughly the same torque. But it is just a fact that a twin with the same displacement cannot be reliably tuned for as much power as 3 or 4 cylinder engines. Therefore they have allowed larger displacement twins to be raced against smaller four cylinder bikes because otherwise fewer cylinder engines just wouldn't stand a chance.
@Bernd DasBrot planetcalc.com/1908/
So glad Aprilia brought this to market, it should sell extremely well.
All these new bikes that cost big big money now there's a bike I'd add to the fleet happily.
Sound nice for parallel twin.
sensible decision from Aprilia in my opinion. Will be very interested to see if this can talk me off my 765RS Street Triple
I doubt it unless you don't find your street triple fun.
I'd like to test it, but your RS is still two steps above imo.
That extra electronics Aprilia bring are not so conditioning on this level of power...
So stoked for an updated front end to the Tuono at LAST. Only sore spot for me.
Superb Review 👍
Coming from a new, R3, I love it. It’s sleek, more comfortable than the R6, and its got that parallel twin sound. I love it, would be perfect for the PNW.
Whats PNW?
100hp out of a 660cc twin!? That's insane. Most companies are getting 60-80hp out of a similar engine.
true, but it's still not much when you look at the looks of that bike.
The word proportion is born in italy (Rome) , off course every thing they make are aesthetically pleasing
Sounds great! Fantastic video!
Looks good, sounds good, one to look out for👌🏽
This bike is the new design to the rsv4 and i can't wait to see it :)
Great to see a new sportsbike in the 600 class.Everybody seems to ignore it these days.Looks like Aprillia may shift a few hopefully.
The black one is awesome
Not sure this will sway people like me considering the Ninja zx6r... look forward to seeing more reviews and comparisons before I decide.
Sounds great!
Interesting to see how these do at the TT next year.
I like it, extremely beautiful bike
A 600 is all you need!
This will be a great upgrade from a Yamaha R3.
And Ninja 400 (what I got) I thought about getting a ZX6R but don't want to worry about comfort and it looks like if you keep Aprilia bikes stock it'll have less issues which equals less maintenance cost
Such a good looking bike and the electronics 😍
Thank you, Chad. Looks like a nice thing ✊🏻
Love the cruise control option on a sportsbike
That RS660 is smoking hot but zx6r is the way to go
Now i need those headlights for my '19 Tuono!
First. Am rather surprised they went down the usable daily rider rather than the ready to race moto 2 bike. Also why did they put wings on it if it a road bike?

Are you thinking of Triumph? Aprilia has nothing to do with Moto2.
"to optimize stability at high speeds, while increasing rider comfort by protection from air pressure and the dispersion of hot air flows emanating from the engine and radiator."
@@fivespeed3026 he just meant moto2 style of bike...
@@fivespeed3026 I know but it was a figure of speech to suggest a mid size ready to race motorcycle such as an f3 800
That color pattern does funny things to me
Now it needs an R, factory or even an SP model!
I wanted this bike. But with the delay, I got a GSXR 750. I’ve had two CBR600s, an R1 and now the 750. Loved them all for different reasons. Am I correct that this bike is less performance than my CBR600s? My GSXR is more than I’ll ever need, just as my R1 was. For me it’s not about the overall top speed, but a combination of looks, performance and how I feel (fit) on the bike.
My question is “with over two decades of riding experience and skills to match the typical track day super star, will I be underwhelmed by this lower performing bike? I mean, how much slower is it than a CBR600?” That’s what I’m wondering. I prefer to ride safe and sane most of the time... but not all the time.
And as I age, I am thinking about how a more upright riding position would be better for longer rides. Aging sucks but biking keeps us young.
As an RSV 4 owner, I have to say I like it a lot. But, my cash would go on a 765R if I wanted a middle weight. Or get a Daytona.
I have a Daytona 675 but was looking at an RSV4 for my next bike. Lovely bikes. Proper roar of a GP bike.
Well that or an R1
I actually like it and was a bit skeptical about how it would sound but it sounds pretty good
Beautiful looking bike, in a class of its own really. Cannot justify changing my brand new CBR650R though and Honda reliability is brilliant. Will be skipping this one as for 10k I will be picking up a 2017-2019 Fireblade but beautiful bike nonetheless
I hope this is the end of "extra mega exotica 20234234hp ultra expensive the best on 2020 comparison youtube video no one really buys" era.
I'm going to put it out there a 100bhp bike doesn't need any rider aids. It's a bike to learn how to ride on before moving on to more powerful machines.
Love this guys review but whats up with the terrible position at 3:08 my god.

Does the RS 660 has a Crossplane parallel twin engine ?
they said yes.. 270 degree fairing order (as advertised early this year)... super cool eh..

@@PezRacer yup
Nice review but I was expecting a bit more detailed because you guys got to ride it for 200kms. How's the fueling ? Is it jerky or refined and flawless ? How comfortable is it for touring? How good are those Brembo's ? What's the fuel efficiency? How's the fit and finish of motorcycle? Is the ABS intrusive?
Absolutely love the whole concept of this... nice and light, plus 100hp is absolutely perfect for the road. I might get the Tuono variant, when it arrives. I'm wondering if Aprilia will be able to shake their bad reputation for reliability though, coming from a Honda that would be my main concern.
I've got got an 07 Tuono with nearly 100k km's on and only replaced a stator. Also have a 17 Tuono with over 20k km's and no problems. Don't worry Aprilia's have a good reliability record.
Why compare the sound to the ER6 and not the MT07? It has a 270 crank after all
I thought it had the same timing as Aprilia's 60° v-twin. 300-420
@ Would have been interesting, possibly a missed opportunity now their MotoGP machine is effectively two such 300° twins.
Alas, they confirmed it was 270° a while back; there was a look at the internals in an Italian magazine, too. Makes sense as 270° requires minimal additional balance mass and minimises inertial torque.
Wonder how would it sound if it had extra few k's of rpm
Nice Road Sport bike. Now interesting to see what Honda's response is going to be. Waiting for slightly more powerful and lighter CBR650R to take on RS660.

perfect timing. i was looking to get a cbr650r because i thought it was the only bike similar to something like this (excluding the ninja 650 and sv650). the aprilia would be way better. pricy im sure tho
Aprilia RSV4 is my dream bike
But we Indian have to be happy with it's SR series.
Currently I am owning a SR 150 Race
Love from India ❤️
Another great bike with an unnecessarily high seat height that rules out short riders like myself.
Omg I’m in love 😍
Great fun bike, but of course it's at least about a 1000 bucks overpriced and I wouldn't get my hopes up about reliability & servicing ease and costs. For the same money, I'd rather get a bulletproof CBR650R and upgrade the hell out of it AND get a fancy new helmet while having pretty much the same level of fun on the road without any of the worries that I would have with the Aprilia.
That being said, this is indeed the right direction: Building more fully faired, affordable midweight sportbikes that are not painfully wristy like an R6, etc. so you can tour and commute on them without hating your life. Only Ducati (SuperSport) and Honda (CBR650R) have similar offerings in this mega underrated class. I only hope that Yamaha (that awesome triple, hello?!), Kawasaki (How about a Ninja 900?), and Suzuki (revive the legendary 750 already!) follow suit. Over the past 5+ years, the bike market has been saturated with the overweight, overpriced, beaked, and overrated "adventure" bike craze AND the endless hype over the one trick pony naked bikes. Time for a sensible change, and that change is midweight fully faired, do-it-all (on the road) bikes like RS660, SuperSport, and the CBR650R.
Is this the year of the parallel twin? 🤔
nah already in 2013 the italogerman husky nuda900 lead the way with a crossplane p-twin.....as a matter of fact yam, ktm and ape are just late to the party!
@@markthoms304 It was 315°, not at all crossplane. Yamaha actually made a 270° twin before they decided on the crossplane crank for their M1 MotoGP machine. And they did so for the same reasons. The Nuda does not follow that same philosophy at all, it is no improvement over a 360° or 180° twin in terms of what Yamaha wanted to achieve. So it is not a crossplane engine, insofar as Yamaha use the term. Then again, neither is the CP3 / MT09 engine, but eh...
@@identiticrisis OK cheers I stand corrected ;)
