Damn. Even after seeing 109 videos for so many times that engine sound still gives me chills. IMHO the best sounding engine of all the WW2 planes.

The BF 109 is quite literally the Grimm Reaper of fighters, despite what the history channel or other peoples opinion tell you, this fighter was the ultimate killer and let me give you some stats on it.
The Bf 109 was credited with more aerial kills than any other aircraft. One hundred and five Bf 109 pilots were credited with the destruction of 100 or more enemy aircraft. Thirteen of these men scored more than 200 kills, while two scored more than 300, one with 352 confirmed kills and many non confirmed kills. Altogether this group were credited with over 15,000 kills between them. Official ace status was granted to any pilot who scored five or more kills. "Ace" status belonged to more than 2,500 German fighter pilots that flew this fighter alone.
The BF 109 has more aerial kills that the P-51 Mustang and Spitfires combined.
Bf 109 K-4 KURFÜRST was the last model and most lethal piston driven fighter of WWII, it was faster than the P-51, turned tighter, had the same range and firepower unmatched with 3 20mm cannons and 2 30mm cannons. Not many were produced since it was towards the end of the war and fuel supply kept it grounded more than it flew.

Nazi Germany lost even when they had superior numbers and material. In the end Allies beat them literally at everything. If Germany would have held out a few months longer, they would have been nuked.
Spitfire Mk XIV is faster, has superior rate of climb and superior turning circle with both both types of wingtips compared to Bf 109 K-4.
Mk XIV with normal wings has a faster rate of roll at slow speeds and with clipped wings rolls way faster at most speeds.
Merlin P-51 using 130 octane fuel is very close to K-4 in speed and diving at most altitudes, at high alts Mustang is faster.
P-51 With 150 octane at 72-75" Hg. boost for USAAF or RAF Mustang at 81" Hg. boost is faster than K-4.
K-4 and 109 G variants with MW 50 injection climb faster than P-51 and high boost reduces this advantage.
At low speeds Bf 109 has a better rate of roll and at high speed it's the opposite.
P-51D has indeed a superior turning circle to 109 G and K variants with or without gunpods. P-51B/C are a bit better than D model in turning circle. At low altitudes P-51 turns slightly better and at high alts it just gets easier for Mustang cos it has more power up there and it has large wing area compared to 109.

Luftwaffe ace Heinz Knoke flew an Me-109 G "Gustav", his favorite of the series !!! ... he told me over the phone in Feb. 1993 just a few months before he passed that "We were just boys doing our job" ... my Dad flew in the Pacific with the 5th Army Air Corps and said most pilots had a code of ethics that were not always popular to admit to the general public !!! ... He loved the Messerschmitt and said it was the blueprint for our P51 Mustang !!!!

Even at idle, it sounds bad ass. Camera guy really needs to work on focusing. Great video still. Awesome aircraft.

Looking at the exhaust ports, that's no Merlin. It's amazing that such a rare aircraft is currently being flown. I can only imagine the man-hours put into this beautiful flying machine. It reminds us how formidable an enemy can be technologically. And how rapid those changes used to occur (on both sides) during conventional warfare.

The spitfire looks beautiful the 109 looks lethal two very different interpretations of a fighter and very telling about the country if origin of each plane the spit a design masterpiece a legendary engined racer fitted with guns very British the 109 an engineering triumph a gun platform sorrounded by an ultra for the time modern airframe and fuel injected precision engined warplane very German similar but different each very special in there own way

A good percentage of kills were on the eastern front against inferior aircraft and poor pilot training
