A genuinely spellbinding story that works just as well in its quiet moments. I love the quiet, thoughtful conversation in the closet, and the reveals of the ghosts of Christmas Past & Christmas Future are genuinely brilliant and impactful to watch, and I get shivers from them both every time. This was not only Moffat in peak form, it was also Smith in peak form, Murray Gold in peak form, and this easily one of the best filmed episodes of all time, not only showing an artistic flair but establishing a palpable atmosphere, and showcasing the idiom of “Show Don’t Tell” masterfully. And it’s such a joy to watch every year as it combines intricate story machinations with some genuinely intense emotion.
I couldn’t agree more. I absolutely love this episode. One of my favorite moments is when The Doctor tells young Kazaran “Eyes on the Tie” before he steps out to see the “Little Fishy”. 😁
This episode shows off why the Eleventh worked so well-it’s easy to get distracted by a bumbling fool, only he’s not a fool, he’s a bumbling genius lmao
I love the time traveling aspect of this episode. A time traveler is nothing, but a stone thrown into the stream of the river. They can't change it's current, but they will send ripples all the way through.
Holy god, their take on the Ghost of Christmas Future is just brilliant. Having the Scrooge type's younger self come in, look at his present self and be terrified, Jesus, how have more people not used that?
This is the best Doctor Who Christmas special. Not even by a close margin. I watch this every year - it reaches a level of narrative and characteristic perfection that few other DW episodes ever reach - I love it more than most other movies and TV shows/episodes alone...
This is one of the best, if not, THE best christmas special ! It is my favourite with "twice upon a time" And an unpopular opinion : I like also " time of the doctor"( the only flaw I have with this one is that he should have been a 2 parts episode).
I really enjoyed this Christmas special! It taught me how life can change in the blink of an eye but you still can be happy just the same! It. also taught me that if you have family that you love don’t let them go! Merry Christmas!
"... if you could spend one last night with your beloved...". This foreshadows Capaldi's Doctor and his last 'night' with River Song. Twenty snowmen. Foreshadows The Snowmen. "Halfway out of the dark." The Doctor recovering from the day when there were no good choices, just a big red button and double genocide...
I think that if they have another doctor who at the proms and they have a singer involved, the singer should be using a broken sonic screwdriver as a microphone just like in this episode. :)
@@DrWhoFanJ Some it up in a sentence. Give me the key theme of the Flux "series"... and if your going to tell me it's left to "interpretation", or it "isn't finished yet" then it is technically non-existent.
@@thewatcherofawesomecontent There is no viable way of making the entire plot explainable within one sentence, but I can get it down to two paragraphs. The Doctor, Yaz and Dan have to find the source of the Flux and prevent it from destroying the entire Universe. They get split across different times and places by it, and have to fight to get reunited to defeat the Flux, encountering the Sontarans and the Grand Serpent’s plan to conquer the entire Universe throughout time using its time-editing capabilities. The Doctor, meanwhile, finally reaches Division, where Tecteun reveals what the Master told her about her being the Timeless Child is true. She takes the fob watch of her lost memories, and decides to keep it locked away in the depths of the TARDIS where she won’t be tempted to look for it again (having realised how much she’d been ignoring her friends by being overly-focussed on hunting them). See? Two whole paragraphs of plot!
Two scenes that didn't make it: Kazren raises his hand to hit a child and then stops himself (but seen in B&W in flashback). And the Doctor coming to the realization that it could be like A Christmas Carol.
This was an excellent Christmas episode. speaking of Christmas episodes, I am hoping that we get a new Doctor who Christmas special next week. I highly doubt it but that'd be nice if we did. I just thought something, they can do a Doctor who Christmas special Marathon. Just play all the Christmas specials that they did for Doctor who Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
I know im probably wishing this to be true, but at 05:35 I swear Murry Gold, was tunnelling his inner star trek fanboy - listen careful and you will hear it.
Rest in peace Michael Gambon, an excellent actor who will undoubtedly be missed
"Isomorphic? No such thing"
The fact that the TARDIS controls used to be isomorphic makes that 100 times funnier
"In 900 years in time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important"
How can we watch Dr. Who again full episodes in the USA?

My favourite Doctor Who Christmas special, and honestly one of my favourite takes on A Christmas Carol. Overall, just Moffat at his best.
Yeah but kind of messed up when you think about it a bit deeper

This video should be an hour long.
The entire episode is the best bit.
The BBC won't let it. The British have taken it from U.S.
Why doesn't this comment have more likes?
RIP Michael Gambon, who was absolutely splendid in this.
'I can even land well,' still a fantastic response
A Galaxy - Class starship, IIRC. Sounds *quite* familiar.....

The soundtrack for this special was outstanding, you can just hear Murray Gold smiling as he directed the orchestra.
Indeed.
This episode is not just only my favourite Christmas special, but one of my favourite stand alone episodes ever!

Still to this day my personal favourite Christmas special. Such a good time.

One of the best stories. And Michael Gambon plays so well.
One of the best written and shot episode till date. My absolute favourite. This a beautiful episode
Doctor who very rarely makes me laugh, but "two turns, then it's your go" is genuinely laugh out loud funny

I had seen it before, but only just remembered a second or two before he said it that he was showing the scene to the boy.
18:22 When you’re all alone, silence is all you see.
In Doctor Who, that phrase has a double meaning… “Silence” is all you see…

Not just the best Christmas episode, but one of the best episodes of Doctor Who full stop.

Micheal Gambon was brilliant in this episode!
Hands down my favourite 'Doctor Who' Christmas special to date!
I will never not love this episode, easily one of the best.

You know a show is good when You own it on blu ray, but You still watch snippets of it on RUclips ... big colour..
One of my favorites and I've seen nearly all of them since the Pertwee Doctor
the intro being a super obvious reference to the jj abrams star trek with the blinding lens flares is so fun.
Her voice could make a person believe in angels.
"Marilyn!! Get yer coat..."
The Doc really knows how to make an entrance. Note the "real" photograph just in case the kid is not fooled by the psychic paper.
Bloody hell the singing gave me goosebumps. ❤
My favourite one 💜 i always rewatch this episode
I'm so glad Moffat has written this year's Christmas special
This episode heavily implied Rory roman romantic roleplay is regular.
Loved this episode!
One of the few "solo" episodes of Matt Smith. Wish there were a little more

Peter capaldi.. You will be one with the legends that made Doctor Who the series that it is, the most memorable, and emotional journey.
Back when Doctor Who had good writers and great actors involved! This episode alone was better than the entirety of Doctor Who: Flux (Series 13)
As opposed to the non-existent times it didn’t, you mean?
(And Flux is SERIES 13, not SEASON 13! Why do you idiots still struggle understanding that‽)

Such a great show. What a shame that they've discontinued it after season 10.

What is Abigail singing at the end, and who is the singer who brought me to tears with the beauty of the vocals and music?
Katherine Jenkins

Can we get a little christmas special this year?
Even if just 8 minutes (like that time when the 7th meet the 10th in the Tardis)?

That was made for Children in Need not Christmas and it was 5 who 10 met
I still find it funny that the Doctor married Marilyn Monroe 😂

Why are they uploading compilations of Christmas specials when they don't even make them any more? If anything this is just really disappointing.
Thats why they make them. “Look, we have a christmas special highlights for you! Are you now happy so we can make another garbage dalek episode?”
well, I didn't watch a few of those, now I'm wondering How I missed it and when to watch
