as a beginner should i buy citadel colours or army speed paint? honestly this army painter speed paints looks great and 100x easier but on the community i only hear negative things about it about the quality of the colours etc but on the other side citadel colours are expensive and you need to buy colours/shades/contrasts etc whilke army painter only need the 1 bottle for all needs
Citadel makes Contrast paints which are the equivalent of Speedpaints. So if you’re interested in a one and done style of painting like in this video, they are the options from those companies. I personally prefer Speedpaints but I also own all the contrast range too because it’s also good! Speedpaints are cheaper, more consistent and flow arguably better. Citadel generally have the reputation that they are good but expensive. And Army Painter are more value and you get what you pay for. I’ve used both for 6 years and I personally prefer Army Painter but it basically becomes what you’re used to! If I was you buy a little of each to begin with and then go into what you prefer? Don’t listen to hobby shaming or elitism but do go with what makes you, your wallet and your paint jobs happy :)
@@WatchItPaintIt great comment and thanks for the help man! i was planning on buying a starter set and have my peace with it but i really think its bette rlike you said to buy couple of pods of each brand to check wich is really the best
I personally own both , but to be honest The Army Painter is my usual go to. You get much more value and speed paints have been so much fun for tackling large squads of units. For special models i usually use different paint brands as well for extra details and effects though... just do what you find fun since its not only money, but time that you're investing.
When doing any skintones I dip the tip of my brush in Vallejo ivory (obviously other paints exist) and mix it into the speedpaint. This gives a very smooth finish and in my opinion looks better. It stil gives contrast but if necessary go over it again with the raw speedpaint; whenever i am doing skin i typically only using a single small drop.
More speed paint 2.0 videos!! Love it! Blinding light looks great! Can't wait to use it! I have a Pegasus and hippogriff that would fit nicely with it. Holy White was a bit too grey for my taste.
@@WatchItPaintIt Hey not sure if you are aware, Army painter has two nice speed paint 2.0 guides with a practical naming chart and all the speed paints colored on minis. I think if you covered a video on these documents more people would realize they exist! They are great references.
I'd love to see the Iron Hands painted with speed paints, please. I've tried the 1.0 to decent effect after having primed with Grey Seer and a drybrush coat of army painter white, but still want to see if there is a more effective and fast way to paint them. Also, I'd like to see the Emperor's Spears painted with speed paints. This video was very informative too.
Mike here - currently painting 2000pts of Iron Hands ;) I did a quick video with the Iron Hands dreadnought, but i'll be doing more in the future. Best bet would be to prime with silver, then do 50:50 medium + black speedpaint. See how dark it looks, then do a second layer if you want it darker (after 30-60 min). I haven't tested this yet with speedpaints, but I have done it with black contrast paint. Another way to do it would be prime black, then drybrush with 50:50 black + silver, then do 1 layer of thinned down black speed paint.
Thank you for your content and sharing. After the Primer, if we apply a Satin or Gloss varnish, is there a concern that the SpeedPaint may not adhere reasonably well? Your thoughts are welcomed.
Have a look at Experimenting with Speedpaint | Varnish before painting :-O ruclips.net/video/tbiSx93ijoI/видео.html it works, just depends if it’s what you’re looking for
I would LOVE to see you paint some Marvel United minis with the Speedpaints. Since they have a great variety of heroes and villains, there will be a great variety of colours?
I tend to paint chibi, or at least my Marvel United properly :-( I know a lot of people would benefit hugely from speedpainting chibis because it’ll get paint on miniatures but I didn’t want to do it to my collection :( maybe I can pick up a spare or two to Speedpaint for the channel!
Haha, yes! Sorry. I don’t know why I said properly. Speedpaint is properly too! But yeah I meant with traditional acrylics. So I can get the shading really subtle and cartoon like
Thank You for sharing ! I am going to paint a white adepta sororitas army and glad to see the new speed paint range has an awesome range in white colors ! Can you speedpaint a Custodes model next !?
I know someone else answered but they had bad info when it comes to White Scars. White Scars red shoulder trim denotes Veterans since the Era Indomitus, before hand it seemed to depend on the artist. Red trim on Raven Guard/Imperial Fists/Ultramarines means Third Company, Company markings for White Scars is their right greave/shin guard has a lightning mark in a particular pattern for the company and only the squad sergeants wear that mark, the squad markings are also lightning bolt patterns of various appearance that sit on the left knee plate.
Ooooh. Thank you for taking the time to explain and correct that! There’s so much to learn with 40k :-D I don’t know how you guys do it? I’ve been learning really slowly for 3 years and I feel like I know nothing still!
@@WatchItPaintIt you're very welcome! The lore and all the little fine details is a lot to take in. I mostly know this part due to being massive fan of the White Scars and have always thought about starting an army based off of them. Otherwise though, I feel like every day is a learning situation when it comes to the 40K universe, I'm fairly certain I know more about the old fantasy stuff more than anything else in Warhammer lol
Very Good Video, i liked it! After watching your Video on creating black speedpaints i expected to see a iron Hands or Black Templar, but White Scar is also cool. If you ever mind doing another one of these Videos i would really like to see the best version of black speedpaint 2.0 that is now in the box (Grim Black?). I allways have issues with white and/or black on my miniatures. Anyway, good job on teaching us how to paint these wonderful miniatures! Thank you very much!
Thanks for such a lovely comment. Made my evening! Sadly our black wasn’t chosen, so Grim black remains the best option! I’ll keep working on Army Painter to make a blacker black, but really Grim Black is still great! Just I wanted more for Black Templars as you say!
Just decided to start painting miniatures as a hobby to display, picked up the speed paint 2.0 mega set along with the army painter mega set 3 which is their standard paints. As I'm waiting on the rest of my order are speed paints gonna be ok for a beginner especially if I'm not going to be painting really quick like most do? Thanks
Absolutely. Just go ham. Some people Speedpaints will all they will ever need. Some people might prefer painting with acrylics. And some should learn the basics from acrylics and then do Speedpaint. Everyone is different. Just paint something and see how you feel! Check out our Patreon which comes with lifetime discord access if you want help at hand! Next time you try to speedpaint this colour scheme, try black primer, medium grey all around, grey seer zenithal and pure white drybrush. then stay within the lines and you will have a wonderful miniature.
@@WatchItPaintIt If you do just one, yes. But if you do a squad or even just 3-4 Minis, it's more than worth it. For other schemes you should use darker underpainting. I'd like to see you paint up more CMON miniatures with the speedpaints, as that's what pulled me to the channel originally. I'd like to see you take on Project:ELITE and Zombicide: Invader miniatures with the speedpaints, and also how those paints interact with the army painter's shaders (the dunking kind). Main reason is because I ordered a complete set of 2.0 speedpaints in an attempt to clear out my backlog of gray plastic (Booo gray plastic!), and I want to see someone painting up the Project:ELITE, and Zombicide:Invader minis with them to give me ideas and motivation to get them done! 🥰 Also you still have a ton of Massive Darkness 2 miniatures and other CMON games minis you can work on. A neat challenge would be to try and paint up all of the Bloodborne miniatures as the video game has such muted paint schemes. I know it's a lot of work for you, but you asked, I'm answering. I'm still going through my catalog of older minis like Massive Darkness 1 using your video tutorials, so your stuff IS being watched. 😁 Also, I tend to zenithal highlight as a matter of course with matt black and matt white to make a 2 tone zenithal highlight. Can you do some speed paint 2.0 videos in this style? I really like to see what the speedpaints can contribute to zenithal highlights. Thanks for all your hard work and I love tuning in to see what you've been doing.
These are all fantastic suggestions. You’re right, it’s all a lot of work :,( but these Speedpaints help so much. I’ve painted 29 miniatures from Zombicide in 5 evenings since getting this set! It definitely helps clear grey plastic!
Would love to see a video where you use the new speedpaint 2.0 medium with the original speedpaints. I invested in the original speedpaints and stopped using them due to the reactivation issue. It would be good to see if this combination reduces the reactivation issue.
That’s Blinding Light tested in anger! What colour do you most want to see and what miniature would you suggest?
I'd love to see a 2.0 ultramarine, I've been struggling to get them looking good without coffee stains.
Blinding Light was an auto include. So good!
You guys nailed it with that one.
Nice work sir! Especially on the freehand stuff.
Probably shouldn’t free hand with Speedpaint :-D
