    I had no idea you could make your own ketchup at home. I will definitely have to try this. I bet it tastes much better than the stuff you buy at the store.

    I like powdered cloves, cumin, black pepper and Worcester sauce (which helps dilute it) as well as molasses and cayenne.

    Be sure to check the % of acetic acid in your vinegar. It used to be a given that vinegar was 5%, but this year a lot of companies have diluted their vinegar down to 4%.

    • @robinsilver8934
      @robinsilver8934 9 месяцев назад +1

      The 4% is typically for making Asian style sauces. It’s been around for years.

    • @grlnexdoorable
      @grlnexdoorable 9 месяцев назад +2

      @robinsilver8934 thanks for that. It isn't safe if you plan to use it for canning.

    AWESOME !!! Thx ! I can use this as a good base. I can change it up sometimes if I want...cloves, maybe anise or cinnamon or liquid smoke...erythritol or sugar replacements...or I can leave it just like this. ;) Much appreciated. Thx.

    I’ll try this. I’ve made with fresh romas before, and a little sugar and spice goes a long way! I want to try without out additional sweeteners since tomatoes are naturally sweet and I need to watch blood sugar. The spices in those amounts from my experience will overwhelm!!

    If you do not want to cook it, then blend the ingredients well and let it sit for a few days for the seasonings to meld.
    On the stove add to a pot do NOT let it stick to the pot:
    2 c 6oz tomato paste
    1/8 c sugar (2T)
    7T white vinegar OR any king you want (use a few T at a time)
    2T onion powder
    1 tsp garlic powder
    ½ tsp salt (to taste)
    You can add a little bit of water it is too thick OR more vinegar.
    Adjust your seasonings to your taste.
    When you reach the consistency you like take it off the stove.

  • @preppernut
    @preppernut 9 месяцев назад +1

    I had lots of tomatoes, so I made it from scratch, and my family loves it. But it took a loooooong time to cook to the right consistency. Thanks for the idea, I will add some tomato paste to speed up the process.
