- Welcome (Bienvenidos) to Neil’s Spanish Fly Box, where we take a look at some of the flies used in Spain and elsewhere.
¿Hola, que tal? En principio, este es un video diseñado para pescadores que entienden inglés, pero por supuesto, ¡cualquiera puede verlos! Si eres un pescador de habla hispana y te gustaría comentar en español, te responderé en español. ¡No seas tímido!
Learn about some new (some, not so new) and interesting fly patterns, that can be found in every Spanish fly fisherman’s armoury, including some ‘must haves’! Real flies for real fly fishers.
I have fly fished in Spanish competitions for over a decade, on rivers and still water, learning a great deal about the Spanish way of fishing and the flies that
are used.

Well Done!! Tough fishing with that wind, weeds, etc!!
Hello Bob, how are you? Keen to get back to regular fishing no doubt! Thank you for your kind comment and yes, in winds like that, even casting nymphs upstream into the wind, is fraught with danger!!😊
Huzzah! LOL, Katherine the Great. A good job fishing in those conditions. Glad to see you get out.
Hello Michael. Very old school! You have been watching too much ‘Sofia the First’!😬Sometimes the forecasters don’t help a great deal!🤦♂️ As ever, it is a privilege to be an angler and be out amongst our natural environment. Huzza!😂 The Royal Navy would be proud of you!!😉
I am well!! The snow is melting, so access to the rivers is improving!!
Good to hear that you are fit and ready for action! Be careful first time out.😉
Great video! What diameter of tippet do you use with the buggers? Thanks!
Hello there, I’m glad that you enjoyed the video. I was using .16mm, which is around 5X. I think fishing downstream allows you to go a little heavier, as the fish are normally attacking from behind. Bringing the fish upstream against the current adds extra pressure also. If you have watched some of my other mini bugger videos, even with that thickness of leader, larger fish can definitely rip off the dropper!🙈
