  • Welcome (Bienvenidos) to Neil’s Spanish Fly Box, where we take a look at some of the flies used in Spain and elsewhere.
    ¿Hola, que tal? En principio, este es un video diseñado para pescadores que entienden inglés, pero por supuesto, ¡cualquiera puede verlos! Si eres un pescador de habla hispana y te gustaría comentar en español, te responderé en español. ¡No seas tímido!
    Learn about some new (some, not so new) and interesting fly patterns, that can be found in every Spanish fly fisherman’s armoury, including some ‘must haves’! Real flies for real fly fishers.
    I have fly fished in Spanish competitions for over a decade, on rivers and still water, learning a great deal about the Spanish way of fishing and the flies that
    are used.

    I always wrap the body material from the head to tail and then back to head to create 2 layers of material.

      Hello there, thank you for your comment. That’s just fine and I do too on some flies, but rarely on a perdigon. You don’t actually say why you wrap two layers? If it is to create a thicker perdigon and that’s how you like them, that’s all good. Generally speaking however, to build up a fly, thread is not as expensive as body material. As I understand your tying, you would tie in the tail at the bead or lower, taking your thread to the rear of the fly, put down a layer of thread back to the head, create shape and tie in the tinsel, for example, and then lay two layers of tinsel and tie off at the bead? Some tyers also tie in the tail and the tinsel at the same time, the full length of the hook shank and bring back the thread to the bead, but generally only one layer of tinsel. There is no right or wrong way (although some may insist their way is the only or correct way), the perdigon is a simple fly to tie and methodology is down to the tyer. If your method works for both you and the trout, that’s cool.👍

    Nice fly. I subscribe to your take on body thickness, less can be more. Thanks.

      Hello again, thank you for your kind comments. Whilst the thickness of the body on a perdigon is personal choice, your assessment is correct.👍

    Hello, why a light hook? I often use heavy Hooks in case i hook a big one with heavy Tippet. Maybe the fine Wire will bend out?

    • @neilsspanishflybox
      @neilsspanishflybox  3 месяца назад +1

      Hello there, I hope that you are well? I use light hooks in an effort to keep the flies a little slimmer - I think that it is easy to over dress flies on heavy wire hooks.🤔Probably not a lot in it, just a personal view. I haven’t, to the best of my recollection, had a hook straighten on me and I have certainly landed 60+ cms fish on these hooks. This is the same hook, size 12, that I use on my mini buggers with .016mm tippet. If you feel more comfortable with a heavier wire hook, that’s just fine. It’s all about confidence.😉

    What company is this purple uv lamina sheet? Is there some substitution in a shape of a tinsel with similar properties?

    • @neilsspanishflybox
      @neilsspanishflybox  2 месяца назад +1

      Hello there! Good to hear from you. In my opinion, the lamina sheets are thinner than tinsels, so I am happy to use them for total cover or collars, but I occasionally use uv tinsel for ribbing. I believe Veniard offer a range of uv lámina sheets. I buy mine from a Spanish company called Urruzuno, who offer a large range of láminas, but only purple and clear olive in uv. Here is a link to the company - there is the availability of viewing the site in English. You need to look under ‘fly tying’ and specifically for ‘URZ Shotgun Foil’.

      @@zigazigman5427 Hello again, as I have said previously, tinsel will be thicker than laminate film, but if you feel that tinsel will be easier to use or easier to procure, then look for uv tinsel in any suppliers catalogue and see if they have the specific colour that you are looking for. Good luck.
