As an Aussie who grew up with Farnham's music, I thought I knew what he could do with his voice. Then I heard his rendition of Black Dog, and his scene from the garden of Gethsemane in Jesus Christ Superstar, and I realised I hadn't fully understood how incredible he really was 😍
Same here. Didn’t fully understand the incredible range he was blessed with. I’m 71 now and when I watch these reaction videos, I now realise the pure genius that is John Farnham.
Likewise. I just spotted a series of YT vids "John Farham can sing anything" which covers a bunch of Farnsey works in 18 genres. Absolutely blew me away. I still think this one is maybe the best demonstration of the power and skill of this awesome talent.
John Farnham is so disciplined. His warmup / mike check is usually an hour long to help him get in the zone. Then he goes out and performs at 110% for a 1-2 hour show. Edit: this information was provided by his manager & friend, Glenn Wheatley, in an interview
Wayyyy better alright. His voice, every vowel, every note, any genre, 3hrs deep, any age. You'd never find a bad live performance even in his 60's (he is in his 70's now & has cancer, likely never be able to sing again after having part of his jaw removed) 😭😭😭😭😭😭 He puts EVERYTHING in EVERY performance, crowd or not. And HIS band were with him for life. Just as critical to him as his voice.
Anything he sings he makes his own. Soooo good❤ It did eventually make to a rarities album along with some other songs that were never included on other albums. So lucky the sound engineer pushed the play button And his band included some of the best musicians in the country.
Yes had a band of top tier musicians and backing singers that mostly stayed with him his whole career. And thank goodness a sneaky engineer recorded it!

I've made it compulsory that my kids know about you the bloke and your talent, music and the enjoyment you got from performing and being an Aussie

It's funny you say that, I read something by Jimmy where he talked about standing side of stage waiting to come on to join John and getting more and more terrified as John got better and better with each song. I feel like it's gotta be that time they did When the War is Over.

They're all incredible. And omg you have to give it to Tom his voice is in amazing shape and he's the oldest!

John has always had a great band behind him and his backing vocalists were the same, they played so much together they wer like a family, and if you watch any of his live concert video's (which you should!) you will see the same old faces. they just played so well together, and John was always shouted out to his band at every gig.

His band has had people like Tommy Emanuel as the lead guitarist at different times his key board player is David Hersfelder and has an impressive resume, all three of his backing singers have successful solo careers. they all love working with John as he is a genuine person
I just found out he did record it. On an album called rarities that I haven’t heard of either. Today I have tickets to a screening of John’s movie for Mother’s Day. I get to see it 4 days before it is released. I knew I became a Mother for some reason. 😂

This is not your typical song you would react to, but if you want to her a different side to John but still hear him belt out a song, give it a go.

Yes, he has a high standard and shows respect for his band and they for him. Also, Farnsey is known for just getting up 'off-the-cuff' without intended rehearsals, practise or preparation and killing it! I've seen him do it on TV interview shows and have seen musicians testify to this! Such is his talent! A film about his singing career is to be released in Australia on May 18 th, named 'Finding The Voice'.
