Great detail on angling the knee and ankle outward for the shorter/stocky person version. I also like Chad's detail on adjusting the triangle to the size of the partner @4:44. I think a good comparison would be adjust it like a pair of slip joint pliers.
Also, if the triangle fails, or the person push their shoulder through, you can always reverse the triangle or the “lock” part of the triangle. Meaning, imagine your regular triangle finish (lets say right leg under left knee). While keeping pressure and holding on to the arm, place your left leg under your right knee, it doesnt have to be deep at all, squeeze your legs and push the head down (I know, it looks weird, but still works and you’ll suprise people with that!)
Good detail for stocky build, I've learned, is to underhook the arm not trapped as I'm pulling down my ankle with my other arm. This creates the best angle for me. I'm practically looking thru thier ear. Then lock it up.
Any chance you give your top 3 most effective takedowns (gi or no gi) for someone with no judo or wrestling background? I am a blue belt and know a couple of the basic gracie self defense takedowns. I have also started working on a basic single leg with my instructor. We barely do any sparring from standing at my gym and I know that this is the weakest part of my game. I want to be as efficient and focused as possible going forward with my takedown training. Thanks for everything you do. I have learned so much from watching your channel over the years!
All of these can be learned very fast with no previous martial arts experience: Double leg takedown, Barcarr takedown (reverse double leg), Inside Single leg takedown (personally I transition to Round The Pipe).
I'm about 6'4 and have long legs but have trouble keeping people in my guard. I have week ankles, I think that's why. Any tips on how to keep my closed guard and how to have a good open guard. Love your vids. I watch them religiously
@@mike1160 Personally as a 5’8 dude I like controlling their head with my right hand and overhook with my left arm. After this I transition to clamp guard and then do either triangle or omoplata.
I'm bad so take this with a grain of salt but I'm also pretty large, 250 lbs when I started. The guards that frustrate me the most by really small people who literally couldn't get their legs around me were shit with my gi like spider and lasso. And I'm not sure if the colored belts were just flexing on me but butterfly guard works pretty well too. Added bonus of that one is you can chuck huge dudes through the air.
How does a broke person get into jujitsu. I love martial arts and I've done them as much as I can afford them I'd really love to get into jujitsu. I need the challenge the exercise and the community of it but $100 a month is too much idk how to go about it
Man I was 18 years old and paid the money to my coach. I would suggest either get a job or work some extra hours. Or. . . Potentially ask to do some work at a local gym in exchange for a class. or You could roll around with friends on a soft surface and watch youtube videos. You won't get crazy skilled doing this. But it's free and it'll be fun.
NASCAR109 I use my hand to wrap my bottom leg around whilst resting the top leg on my opponents groin and then lift it to lock in the choke, it takes a little longer and it’s easier to defend but you can always pull the top leg over their head and roll to the arm bar
personally I would love to see the lanky vs stocky look at every technique in jiu jitsu!
Robert Bonardi me too
I use this move on date night a lot. Thanks for the short leg pointers!
I just pictured you forcing your date to do something unspeakable and that is very funny lol
Hahaha.
@@zombiewolf3244 Haha!
@@Chewjitsu If I'm being honest my date night has more to do with wrist control.. lol

dat reveal tho. I wasn't ready!!
great video, as per usual. technical and informative. also you guys look cool in your black gi
I’m Chads size so yes please bring Chad on that was awesome gonna bring that at tonight’s training👍🏾
I love how Chad's eyes pop when Chewy says Chad has one of the best triangles around. It means a lot coming from Chewy.

* Chris at 00:58 does Adam jazz hands*
Me: HOW DARE YOU STAND WHERE HE STOOD
lol jk
To hell with Chris
He's got balls. that's for sure... **SMH**
Haha. I saw that and thought, "Adam is going to be pissed."
that angle cut/shave was money for the 245 lb powerlifter/brown belt. thanks, Chewy!
Thanks for the shoulder detail +the triangle adjustment vs angle!
I’m a judoka, love watching your videos. I was definitely surprised when you said uke at the end!
Judoka also, love this channel
I like Uke better than Dummy. I mean BJJ is a derivative of Judo so we can say it too. ;)

Competed at Austin this past weekend...got two subs triangle from mount and triangle from guard

this is actually so helpful
Great to see u guys together again!
Was good to have him back for a bit.
Nice gi. Would love to see a review on the Origin gi.
great video !!!! Chewie you are a natural teacher and are very good at explaining many instructors don't possess this skill keep it up !!1
Thanks!
Great details guys. Thank you!
You're welcome brother.

Jiu jitsu for dummy thicc people

Damn that detail about not letting the shoulder in, that's what I have been doing wrong all this time ffs

I really like your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge. How can contact you for questions? Oss 💪🏿
Extremely helpful. Thanks!
how do you tie your belt man it looks a lot cleaner than mine
At about 4:10 did he say that he likes to control his own knee? Can we get some thoughts and pros and cons on that?
Very good explanation from start to finish. Thanks guys. 😁👊🏾🦍🔥💯
Chris got revealed out of nowhere at the beginning of the video
How come there’s no set up with pulling the leg with your arm to create the artificial leg to get it tighter?
Then obviously hooking the leg
My gym has technique add, we do different techniques every class. How can I improve? It's just information overload
New gym where every class builds off the previous
Im both stocky and lanky idk what to do
But if you're tall and stocky?
you could probably ask them to be silent for 5mins for you to make this video because alot of background voices
Yeah I guess I could. But it's a gym. It's not that bad.
Hey Chewy, do you have any tips for short legged guard? I have stumpy legs and always struggle to get a decent closed guard round people.
Try the tips I was talking about in the video. My legs aren't all that long.
Try half guard?

I'm on it.
What about if I’m short and weak? Huhhhh.....
Lift some weights and strength train and get stronger.

Bro it's wierd not having a t shirt or rashguard under the gi
😂
Thats how the japanese did it for the last 200 years lol. Its even mandatory in judo.
But then you wouldn't get the best man hugs.
Why?
@@darkdrake13 And in Ibjjf competitions. You can't compete wearing a rashguard or a t-shirt under the gi

Awesome i sleep while hanging upside down hopefully my legs get more lanky
No offense to chad but to me he seems like a man child version of Keenan Cornelius
