This amazing performer and beautiful person is from my home State of South Australia. I really, really, really, really urge you to listen to another great SA icon, Australia's favourite band COLD CHISEL. Start with Wild Thing (the Last Stand performance). You won't regret it!
I never heard this song before until two days ago after I bought Kasey's album Backbone. Never heard of her before but a friend turned me on to her and now I can't stop playing her album and especially this song. So I got on youtube to see if I could find this performance and when I saw Polo reacted to it, I came here first. Didn't know it was an Eminem song. She blows me away with her performance. So much heart and soul and PASSION! Wow. Absolutely blown away. I'm happy that Polo, who was already familiar with the song as written and performed by Eminem, was also blown away. Plus I have never seen someone shredding on a banjo before🙂
The old guy in the hat sitting playing slide guitar is Kasey's father a life long country music singer song righter and Australian music Legend in his own right.
Kasey was raised on the road as a child. Her father, the slide guitarist, was a rabbit and Fox shooter in the Outback of South Australia for seven to eight months of the year for 9 years in total. This is why Kasey sounds so authentically blue grass and country. As a teenager, Kasey and her family formed a band called Dead Ringer Band. Kasey is an Aussie icon. Eminem gave permission for her cover of this song and it’s on her latest album.

I am a massive fan of the original but fark Kasey did this song proud. For me it took on way more meaning to slow it down & omg the passion she put into it. Have watched/listened to her version maybe a hundred times and i get goosebumps & tear up each & every time. I have never really been a fan of Kasey's & her bluegrass/country style but she owned this. Kasey used her downtime during covis to put this together & performed it at the Australian record industry awards & how everyone stayed sitting is beyond me. If anyone enjoys this performance we need to go to her RUclips and show some love to it as it blows my mind how little amount of likes it has attracted. Awesome reaction Polo 👏 cheers & Peace Out ✌️
HOLY SHIT!!!! What a performance! Was not what I was expecting. It is so very hard to take words, or lyrics of one song, or just any song that you know so well, and sing them, rap them, hell, just to perform them into a different way than what the "original" way of you knowing them to be. This performer did it flawlessly!
Hi from Australia...liked and subbed. What a great reaction and I've seen so so many. For me Eminem's song was like a 'punch in the face' lol...Kasey managed to express how horrific his early life was with her performance but then she channelled her own frustrations with our music industry here in Oz. I think Eminem's lyrics were really heard now.
Wow is right. I remember Trent Reznor saying after Johnny Cash covered his song Hurt... its his song now. Happens rarely... but when it does? It's amazing
Enjoyed your reaction & thoughts 😊 I have watched “many” reactions to this & had the absolute privilege to see her perform this live, a memory that is etched into my very soul. Below is my comment I have left on each reaction I’ve ever seen. Raw unadulterated Brilliance! I was totally blown away when I first “experienced” this Phenomenal performance, amazing arrangement & pure to the emotional interpretation of Em’s masterpiece - just legendary!! She is aged 46 at the time of this performance 2022. I’ve always been a fan of Kasey, she is a freakin amazing & talented musician, artist & woman, but this was next level genius & so personal for her. She has lived every second of this story’s soul through her own life’s journey. She is a fan of Em & worked on & created this during lockdown. The performance wasn’t filmed, she put a post out after the show to fans present to please send in any footage, the compilation of which you see. The band killed it, matching & building with her energy brilliantly. Long time band member Brandon on lead guitar & the vocals that nurtured the momentum & her dad on slide guitar making it sing/rise like a phoenix - all of them together made this one of the all time best live, for me a rebirth, not a cover, that I’ve ever heard, seen & felt….to my core. Had a flick through your vids & saw The Big Push - would very much like to see you look into more from them & in particular Ren’s catalogue. New sub 👍🏻🇦🇺🥰
This band is based on history of her families band called the dead ringer band, which was mum, dad, her brother and Kasey. By the way the guy playing the slide guitar is her father.
I really was glad to see you react to this one. Iv'e watch several reactions and read many comments. I love how so many comments say that she really showcased the words and how it brings out how good M is about writing real life. 😎
Thanks for your reaction to this fantastic song. It is so pleasing that Eminem acknowledged this version by allowing Kasey rights to Spotify and Instagram. What a trooper Em is. He must have loved her version a lot!! I love both versions as they are so different in delivery. Although Em will always have the uttermost respect for his writing ability and performance of this song, I must say, I have never heard a cover of his genius lyrics performed so well by anyone before and to think it was a live performance as well. I have seen comments criticising the video quality of this performance. In fact, it wasn't until a while after that performance, people who attended expressed how good it was so they thought they should get something out there for their fans. So they reached out to their fans who attended that performance to obtain any phone footage. They married the video with their audio recording. That's why the film quality is not the best. Also, I have seen comments that people did not stand at the end of her performance. Unfortunately, that is a theatre and it's a bit hard to stand as you block other patrons'views, it's not like a normal concert venue. Also, I understand that the fans were also a bit stunned at her performance. I have been to many concerts and must say, I have never seen someone become so engrossed in the song, sing we so much conviction and emotion like Kasey. I watched another song written by Kasey called "Ain't no Little Girl" and again it is just so fantastic. She sings it with so much conviction. Just blew me away!!! ❤❤❤❤

Kasey is one of the top Country artists in Australia, youngest ever inducted into our hall of fame and with over a dozen albums under her belt. Her normal wheelhouse is Country, with the odd adventure into other genres. That's her dad on slide guitar in this performance. If you want to hear more from her, it really depends on the emotion you want. Her talent is around sharing her emotions with her audience. For her early career, she felt that 'The Captain' defined her (a song about just wanting to retire and let someone else deal with all the mess). Then there's 'Not Pretty Enough", detailing the frustration when she was seeing commercial success, but the radio stations were refusing to play her songs. BTW, this song ended up getting a lot of airplay (grin). Next is 'Aint No Little Girl', which Kasey defines as the glue that holds her life together. It's a mature woman's reaction to some a**hole betraying her. Recommend the live recording done by the US PBS ruclips.net/video/OeWzXIkA8Rg/видео.html. Lastly, if you can handle some real country stuff, go for "Backbone" or "Ratlin Bones". My fav is "Nullarbor Song", dealing with homesickness (ruclips.net/video/hy0LsznX59A/видео.html). As with almost all Aussie artists, live performances will always be best (if you can find a decent recording).
There's no contest between the original and Kasey's version. To take those lyrics and work that harder than Em is mind blowing. They occupy the same space, side by side.
