The band is Nine Inch Nails. Was written and sung by Trent Reznor who said it’s Johnny Cash’s song now.
I like Nine Inch Nails but the lyrics to this song just fit better to me in this cover.
Just like Dolly giving "I Will Always Love You" to Whitney
He didn't give it to Cash, he gave Cash props. If he gave it away he wouldn't still perform it. He was honoring Cash. People take words so literally.
FYI, Cash initially refused, he didn't want to cover it. He had to b talked into it.
@ I didn’t take it literally. I meant that he said it was his as his performance was iconic. Just like Dolly Parton didn’t transfer the rights to “I Will Always Love You” to Whitney Houston but recognized it as iconic to her.
No matter how hardened you are...this song just hits different
It’s rough.. to feel a song in your soul and understand every emotion each word sparks inside you.
The song makes me cry like a baby every single time and I love it
Johnny led a hard life. It was full of ups, downs, praise, criticism, imprisonment, riches, joy, and sadness.
This was the perfect ending to his career at the end of his life. An Ode to say goodbye, and to say Im sorry to his wife who he lost months prior.
He never went to prison but did struggle with drug abuse.
Obviously, June, his wife, was alive at the time of the video's filming. Maybe the final touches on the song and film editing were being made when she died, rhough.
@@thomasmacdiarmid8251 She's the one who comes down the stairs in the video so I wonder how she went from looking lively and checking on Johnny to dying before him
@dylnfstr June Carter-Cash died of surgical complications. She was having heart surgery. She passed 3 months after this release, then Johnny Cash passed 4 months after her... from heartbreak. 💔
Cash transformed this from an emo style cry for help into a man at the end of his road looking at all his accomplishments and his regrets and accepting the choices he had made.
He had actually passed it up when first suggested to him. I'm really glad he made that cover.
Nine Inch Nails originally made this song, but when Trent Reznor heard Johnny Cashs rendition, he gave up his claim to the song. it was orignally full of late teenage angst, but Johnny brought such real depth and wisdom, and real pain, to the song the Trent will tell you the Hurt is Johnnys song now.
Correct - with one caveat: it was the music video that did it.
To me this song is a Public Safety Announcement testifying to the fact that "The best things in life aren't things at all". Thanks Mr. Cash for sharing your hard-earned knowledge so that we might live better lives.
Our guy Krizz is just here sharing him being an amazing father, sharing this with his son...👊
I absolutely love him doing reactions but there's something special when the kids are with him
Boy Named Sue, One Piece At A Time, I Walk The Line, Man In Black, and of course Ring Of Fire....all are must!
Oh and Folsom Prison Blues, plus, plus, plus so many more
@theidajawho i was just about to comment this 😂🐼
true honesty man. This song woke me up to The errors of my ways and Now I'm focused on Myself and the security of my future I can't be dying with all that hurt.
Don't waste your time. You cannot get it back and trust me. You do not want to live the rest of your life with that much regret. It Eats you up inside. Changing you without your permission. Forcing you to become something you otherwise would not.
Always a pleasure to see a young person at lest willing to listen to the older stuff. That's how we get well rounded people, the ones willing to look at something different from their comfort level.
I always find it amazing how Trent was able to write Johnny's life. Killer.
It makes your soul drop everything and stand at attention in awe of how he summed up his life in just a couple of minutes.
I never thought about Johnny being the first rapper but then I remember the song "I've been everywhere" and he is rapping at a pretty good pace in it when he recites all the cities he's been...
I think this song hits us older people a little different than the younger kids. He’ll get it when he gets to mid life
That's because he is gen z and afraid to like something his friends might make fun of him for liking.
I think it's awesome when you include your family in music reactions
Your son is cute.
We lost June, his wife, shortly after this video originally came out, followed by Johnny a little while later. Hurt was a goodbye song, as he told it to his daughter.
I love the way Baby Duke was just vibing to it! You taught him well as how to appreciate music!
I grew up to the sound and beloved character of Cash, his family, his troubles, his compassion.
I showed some friends the movie Spartacus from the 1960s. There is a scene where a group of slaves join Spartacus and they ask him what he did and he said he "entertained" with song and Spartacus asks him to sign for them...and he starts speaking, in rhyme. Telling a poem.
Rap. That is found through-out history in many parts of the world.
Closing the piano was like closing a chapter of his life. The final chapter.
This song brings out self introspect about life's mistakes and in the end you realise what's actually important ❤
with all that you have built for your family and for your son one day he will still have his heart broken by you. you will the reason for one of the greatest pains in his life, his greatest loss will be you and nothing can change that. everyday is precious
You want Johnny Cash rapping, check out Ive Been Everywhere, which is actually a cover, but you gotta do it. Youll probably have heard it in commercials or something.
And rizz comes from "charisma" lol
ruclips.net/video/ov4epAJRPMw/видео.htmlsi=oeBLoWS1_gzu3vRv. Yes for sure. Good call he needs this one
Cash was performing at prisons live in the day. A man of the people.
My son literally just got back last weekend from going to where this museum is, it’s still there but everything around it looks different. And also went to Johnny and June’s gravesite. Got a lot of cool pictures and videos.
Love that you're doing this with your son ❤
This is the greatest sending off opus in musical history. One of the most powerful songs I've ever heard.
Johnny Cash was my dad's favorite singer so I heard a lot of his music growing up. Cash was called "The man in black" because that's the only color he wore until things in the world got better. He is a legend.
Thanks for the honest review 💜
Gods Gonna Cut You Down is awesome for both the song and the video. The video was done as a tribute to Johnny after he died. Many great musicians and actors took part in the video.
Have heard this a thousand times..just love it. Johnny cash was a great artist ❤❤ 🙏 Johnny ❤ ##HOG
The line "everyone I know, goes away in the end..." The older you get, the more gravity the song carries. Im 49 and a lot of the people I knew have gone away already.
Not a big JC fan but this song just hits.
Should do some Electric Callboy Krizz. Great videos/songs from Germany. Cheers from Canada eh.
Charisma. Rizz. Some dudes got it, most don't. Y'all do, and I'm not too old either.
Can never listen to this without some tears. Lost track how many times I’ve heard it
Right on Kaliko, giving your kid some culture
I always loved a boy named sue!
Johnny was the hardest charging rock star ever. I grew up during his gospel phase, so I didn't realize how awesome he was until later in life. He's a true gangsta!
Trent Reznor said in an interview that after hearing Cash's version, it was like seeing an old girlfriend with the man you know she was meant to be with. I think that sums it up beautifully
Yes but the inability to even recognise let alone FEEL the meaning from HOS SON! - THATS THE PROBLEM!! NO CAPACITY OR CAPABILITY FOR EMPATHY!!!! Wake UP!
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard
Some more 60's rap. Bob Dylan Homesick Subterranean Blue.
Listen to Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues from 1965 which is very much like rap to me.
This was bold to listen to with your Son. This song is so powerful.
Introspective, is the word i think your looking for.❤
It's a profound song about life and success and failure and faith. It's about what's real in the end of things. This is what Cash's interpretation brought.
This rendition is so gut wrenching. Impossible not to catch the feels
It’s real life. It just goes to show that all that stuff is just stuff. When you get to where Johnny is, it meant nothing. All you have and all that counts is your relationship with your family, your friends and your God. The rest of it Will rust away in time.
You two would enjoy and laugh while listening to Johnny Cash - "One Piece At A Time". He kind of does do an early form of cadenced rap!
"... and it didn't cost me a dime!"
Thank you for doing my request!
Such a sad song. 😔
He was such a Legend. My Dad loved his music.
This song hits a dark spot in the heart for sure. In the depths of my addiction I would listen to both versions on repeat. 😮💨 haven’t listened to it since getting sober… 😮💨 that was a lot. 😮💨
How nice to see the both of you reacting together.
There were actually some older country artists that did songs even farther back than Cash's Boy named Sue. Check out Tex Williams Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette from 1947. I think you will agree that that song could be considered Rap.
And Waylon Jennings in Waymore Blues
Teddy Bear by Red Sovine not as old I think 1970s
When Johhny Cash was 12 years old, his older brother died and his father blamed him and it shaped him, how he viewed himself. He carried that burden around when his father should have been assuring him that his brother would not have wanted him to blame himself. 😢
Riz is literally just the word Charisma shorted.
Dude, major props on the Boy Named Sue take. I've been saying it for a while now... That's the first rapping I can recall
I am such a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, Johnny Cash doing it was such an honor to Trent. 😮💨 he literally said this is Johnny’s song now. 😭😭😭 love love love this! Oh I adore seeing Chris get to dive into all this magic! ❤
Nephew with the Barry White voice... Happy holidays family.. JK
What most people fail to recognize is that Trent Reznor was only 34 when he wrote this song. There's an incredible amount of foresight and wisdom in the lyrics, born of immense depression. Reznor actually apologized to the crowd the first time he performed this song live. It was heartbreaking.
This is a wonderful rendition of this song, a mans reflections and regrets at the end of his life.
Hurt is a song where the feelings it gives you changes over time, as your experience expands.
Firstly, I have to say I’m a huge fan of your music and have all of your albums.
Secondly, this song is written by NiN’s primary songwriter and lead singer Trent Reznor for the album “The Downward Spiral” (you reacted to “Closer off the same album
Johnny Cash decided to do a cover of it as one of his last recordings before his death
🙏
Great seeing the young fella react to this with you Krizz! Awesome.😁
Dear Platinum, I saw you take the right train, you drink the words of Johnny ,,,Yes, I saw you understand really well and deeply the message and its secrets! Living is hard, and living right is harder too!
You need to react to Johnny Cash - "Get Rhythm" If that's not wrapping I don't know what is, and he does it pretty fast, too.
Rick Ruben is actually the one who came and helped Johnny shoot this video. It was his idea. If you know anything about music, you know who Rick Rubin is. That should tell you everything you need to know about the video.
For johnny's version its a reflection and perspective song. I thing the younger you are when you listen to this the better. For myself, I'm mid 40s so not terribly old, but even for me its a great song to do some self reflection and try to re-assess my priorities in life before I have too many regrets.
Showing your son the boss. Kudos to you Krizz! ❤
You should listen to shoe shine boy. That's got an energy to it
This song shows you what life is. Youth to elderly. Happiness to loss. Health to illness.
He's surrounded by a feast alone at the table. Broken awards. Floods. Devastation. It's like he's saying hold onto yourself. All things that matter don't matter in the end. Everything goes away. Be true to yourself and love what's important.
Rizz is a short form of charisma.
1: a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (such as a political leader)
Actually it's a misconception that this is his last song. It's not. This song and video was released in 2002. He died in September 2003.
His wife June died in May 2003. Immediately after her death John wanted to record his last Album.
Charisma
Cha-Ris-ma
Charisma = Riz... ma..
Trent Reznor has said that Johnny made the song his,and it is the version you now hear the most often.
Its funny how few people know that "Rizz" is short for Charisma.
Why would anyone, outside of the Generation that made up the slang, know it's "source"?
I'm 59 and I know it!@@lokithecat7225
@@lokithecat7225I'm in my late 50's ok, don't use "not my generation" as an excuse for poor critical thinking skills.
I'm 46 and was never told that, but just assumed that's where it came from.
The destruction of the English language continues and it is shameful.. and sad.
It's heavy songs such as this that gets me all up in the feels. If you want to check out another artist similar to The Man in Black, I recommend Marty Stuart. His album THE PILGRIM is full of emotion. One song in particular, "Reasons", hits me hard every time I listen to it. You two should check it out. The song before "Reasons" is the introduction, so you should react to both in one video. Love what you're doing, Krizz!
You should have your son react to "I've Been Everywhere". Johnny Cash can talk pretty fast.
Love Kaliko Gen X-splaining Gen z slang like every other dad.
what's been around for a long time is poetry then the name changes to rapping
Rizz is short for charisma. Love you Krizz with all your rizz ❤
When Johnny Cash was just starting out as a country singer he was not well thought of, he had just gotten out of prison and had been an addict to hard drugs. He met and married June Carter who was a member of a family of country royalty (The Carter Family). At the time it was thought she was marrying below herself.
Johnny Cash turned this song into one about an old mans regrets at the end of his life. Wonderful.
Johnny Cash was mostly known for his country music, but he crossed so many genres. Most Gen-X knew who he was even if they didn't listen to his music.
Fro. Your own reply, you're a BOT!!
@@AylaCT My REPLIES BEING DELETED! THATS "WHAT" YOU..
Emotional song this: It feels like it was written for him, even though it wasn't. Jonny Cash is a legend 💯%
And yes definitely a Boy named Sue..........that's a classic 👌🏾
Dont really know how or where rizz came from, but its short from Charisma . So its how to basically charm a person.
Also NIN ( Nine Inch Nails) was the one that had the original song Hurt.
There's a sense of completion and achievement about it, even though the lyrics are about failure and disappearing. He really did everything he could and should have done with his time, as a Christian and as a romantic, musical man. He always stood up for prisoners and for humility in place of judgment and mercy in place of revenge. God rest him.
When his daughter heard it she said " It sounds like you're saying goodbye" He replied "I am"
"Rizz" is slang for "Charisma". Like - you're popular, people like you, some people want to be you. You have a magnetic personality.
i love the reactions with your son. I love to see the younger generation enjoy the songs i grew up with. if this one got real for him show him James Blunt MONSTERS. that one might get too real seeing it with his dad tho
Trent reznor from 9 inch nails, who wrote and sang the original, said that this is now JohnnyCash’s song.
Video came out after his wife died, but he was still alive. It was nominated for several MTV awards, but he wasn’t able to attend due to the pneumonia that eventually killed him.
Its rapping over country but is rapping really just good lyrical execution
Over any music rapping is flowing lyrics potentially over no beat and the best blend both
A Boy Named Sue was written by Shel Silverstein!
That video was sad enough when it first came out, then finding out that he passed was crazy, but I still loved it, tho.
Shout out to Krizz Kaliko… 💯 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Killa City legend 💯
"Rapture" by Blondie was the first rapping song to hit #1 in the US. I believe around 1980! You should check it out!
Show some respect to an icon. Johnny Cash holds legend status.
A young Trent wrote a song about regret, the thing is he has time to reflect and make it better.. but when Johnny sings it.. it’s at the end of his life, and he can’t take anything back.
Make me cry
Love Jonny Cash. When you talk about him being the first rapper, check out "The Man Who Couldn't Cry"
To me it's a song of self-reflection...the feelings you get out of it is directly related to how you've lived your life
Sunday Morning Coming Down is another you may like.
