Thanks guys.
LET’S GOOOOOOOOO
Thanks for explaining cats paw/built rite. I've been wondering why cobblers been using new old stock of them for customers.
I’ve been wearing my Trumans with the Eugene sole this winter in the black and the brown recycled versions in the deep snow, lots of water and icy conditions and they have held up perfectly. They are also easy break in, hold up incredibly well on concrete and rough surfaces. Truman did an amazing job developing that model. Recommended.🇨🇦🤘
The Gloxi Cut Sole was a good sole.
Guys, how about a video on your personal preferences? Jeff has made comments about his preference of leather insole piece and lined kiltties. Mike's choice going with the JF insole, midsole, and heel stack.
somehow i missed this one! Dr. Soles look awesome.., id also like something with a half sole V bar.. i seem to like the 700 more than the 430
If you didn't know, the Chinese sometimes calls the Dainite soles the nipple soles. I find it hilarious.
😂 🤣 😂
Great episode - thanks! The Cat's Paw story is wild! (Just a technical tip: there is quite a large difference in volume between the two of you.) I would have loved to hear what you guys think about the Ridgeway sole that Viberg is using extensively on their Service Boot these days. This is a full sole with a heel cap. I think it would fall somewhere between Dainite studded and Vibram full lug.
Sorry about the sound and we have figured that out and fixed it.
I don't know who is making that for them yet. Interesting outsole for sure.
There is another wild looking sole I've noticed recently that I don't think a lot of makers offer. Check out Dr. Soles's urban explorer sole. It's like a leather sole with a commando sole worked into it so you get what it technically a thin rubber layer sandwiched into your leather midsole and your leather outsole. Also meaning stuff like toe taps can be installed
@@cheekibreeki9155 I think that one looks really cool! 😍 We should have mentioned it, but we haven't used it, and don't yet know anyone that has. Personally I like a true half-sole. Not just the look of it, but the extra flexibility.
This Urban Explorer would really shine for someonevwho has to dress up more. Because only the leather would be seen to onlookers. On that note, I have been debating this sole for a dress boot I've been planning. I keep leaning more towards it every day.
@@cloveroak5492 I saw that on the dr. Soles site they had a collab with Viberg in the past for a black horsehide service shoe in their 2040 last with the urban explorer sole. As you pointed out, it looks virtually indistinguishable from any other single leather sole setup.
Thanks for doing these. I just listened to the last episode and you were talking about how stiff a wedge sole is. Would it be a bad idea to get a leather liner in a 7” wedge boot?
Leather liner meaning an insert? Like a 6-8 Oz piece of upper leather laid inside a boot? If so, I do that on all of my boots regardless of the outsole.
@@cloveroak5492 I mean a leather lined upper. Mike had said that with a wedge boot the upper does most of the flexing because the sole is so stiff. I’m a little worried that they would never really break in.
@righturnclyde Oh! Short answer is that an upper will break-in regardless.
Long answer is that it depends on you, how much breaking in you are willing to endure, how weak your ankles are, and how thick/stiff the uppers are.
A wedge sole, with stiff thick uppers, with a leather liner, will certainly be like wearing a cast in the beginning.
If you have healthy strong ankles, and are buying a thick work leather, I'd definitely say no to a liner.
Any recommendations for something with durability for sidewalk miles that will grip on wet floors? Vibram lugs, honeys, and Sierra all super slick when someone spills a drink. (Bar industry).
The Vibram 1330 Newporter is a recommended sole for the food service industry. I think the 1328 Elvis is liked too? The 885K has suction cups that would seem to be great? I'd also look at the Q732 Freestone and the 669KS Skull
@@cloveroak5492 I'm gonna make a note of these and look into them for when I wear out the Sierra sole on my Nick's tactical tankerpros. They aren't due until May though so I wonder if they'd build them with them if I send them in or if they'd specialize it for me?
-Hulk Nick's keeps pulling further and further from stuff like that, but it certainly doesn't hurt to ask, and I'd encourage you to do so. You'll have to pick one b4 the call for sure.
