My dad is a conservative Baptist preacher and has been my whole life, I was raised in the church and heard it all, it was hard to tell him I was gay and I would have bet anything that he would disown me, I told him in a letter so that we wouldnt argue and I did not see him for almost a week and when I did see him it was awkward at first but now we are good and talk all the time, he was met my boyfriend who I have been with for over 3 yrs and he accepts him and gets along with him, all I can say is the least person you think would accept is may suprise you.

Thank you. I came out in 1974 at 18 in NY where I grew up. Five years after Stonewall. We were always angry then, because we had to be. If you can be calm and positive, that's always better. But I just want to go on record to say that there were 4 decades before this in which some awesome, angry Gay people had to be out in the streets. We brought down the house, from NY to Toronto, and every place in between. I'm so glad you younger Gay people have it much easier - after all, that's why we fought as hard as we did against the police and the haters. But please never forget the angry Gay people who came before you. XO

Paul, you are a beautiful man, inside and out. I'm an American counselor of LGBTQ youth and I am given so much hope by your articulate presence and mindset. Most of the guys I counsel are a decade younger than you. So, it is so good to see those in your ranks leading those younger. I am so happy for you that you found your voice at a relatively early age. You are doing tremendous good through your life and words. Thank you, bro..............Ray

I’m not religious but I am a gay woman and seeing people fight so hard for their rights is beautiful. We truely care about this subject and when we get put down because of who we love of who we, are it’s upsetting. Just respect everyone no matter who they are, who they love or where they’re from.

I have many lgbt friends, but we never really talk about our coming out stories. Maybe because it is just an understood painful history for some...perhaps it's something we all just moved on from.. but we never really talk about these types of stories or other uncomfortable moments in our lives. It is so refreshing to hear these anecdotes from other members of our community. It reminds me that there are other people out there who have gone through similar negative experiences, but who have also overcome them. I really enjoy this channel for it's wide and diverse message and inclusion from all perspectives. Keep it up!

What a powerful statement and so timely! I felt a sense of pride as I heard a member of MY ‘tribe’ call for compassion and understanding; asking me to set aside those harder emotions, anger, hatred, resentment, and the desire for revenge in favour of a higher consciousness and understanding, acceptance, forgiveness and inclusion. The message of this channel is what is needed now, and spokespersons for this pov what we need. Thank you.

It was great to learn that after all the rhetoric against Same Sex Marriage, in the end they only represented 22% of the population. Same Sex Marriage is now legal in Australia.

It should go without saying that "hell", "heaven" and "God" are ancient man-made concepts, imbued with characteristics that were good for men at different times of history. This is not to say that nothing greater than man might exist, but if it exists, it is clearly neutral regarding human diversity.

I'm an atheist, but even I have read the Bible. Neither Jesus nor any of his disciples ever mentioned homosexuality, let alone condemned it. Only Paul, who never met Jesus, never heard a single one of his sermons or parables, mentioned homosexuality. Don't Christians bother to read their own Bible? Or do they consider the words of Paul to be more important than those of their Christ?

I'm old enough to remember Anita Bryant and John Briggs. Whatever discrimination we face today, it was worse in the 1970's! But even in 1978, we defeated the Briggs initiative that would have fired any teacher who "promotes homosexuality". We did it because Harvey Milk inspired thousands of gays and lesbians to come out - and this changed public opinion. People who personally know LGBTQ+ become unable to defend discrimination.🌈

I totally agree with what you said. I was raised in the church (southern bapt), mom was pianist/organist for 35-40 years, so you know where I was raised. I always used to put God first in my life. Then again, I was ALWAYS outside the box. Never belonged to clicks in skool, but wasn't a heilian. Most of my life, I have been alone, except the dogs that always came to me (labs for some reason). At forty, I found the one, and he was exquisite! Ballet dancer... Wuff.
He lasted 4 1/2 years and his parents demanded I take him home so they could look after him... I am in Georgia (Atl) and he was from Scranton, Pa. So I loaded the station wagon with his things and a trailer, and the cat and the dog , & off we went. Stayed there 3, 4 days with the cat stuck in the basement, and the dog tied up in the back yard. I couldn't take it, and I was feeling he would sense it, because they slept with us and they lived in the house. They said well we have a new baby,.... Like they couldn't tell me on the phone ahead of time. They were nice, but real shitheads. I did NOT want to leave HIM there, but he told me to. Long story short, the "kids" came home with me alone, he stayed there, and he called me period I my when he felt like being on the fone. A year later in June, I get a call from his sister telling me he died, and they buried him two weeks ago. I was floored. They did not want me up there, I would have toasted some ears. Heartbroken, I moved, got depressed, struggled to stay alive, the animals my only outlet. Took me 5 1/2 years to get my disability from SS, from a broken back at work, and shit for a settlement. I own a little dump with 1 1/2ac fenced in, where the cat &dog had their yard, and they are buried here. Another black lab came to me 3 years after my white one died. The cat died two months after him, she was raised with him, and couldn't take it without him. I have been alone for27 years, because my other half was the only one who ever took me AS I WAS, or trying to change me, or taking advantage of me or me of him, but I just put here with Shadow Love, on the acre & half, where she has free reign fenced in. She's absolutely the most loving of all, because after the last one (17.5 yrs), I said no more. Heartbreaking to put one down. But here she is. God works in mysterious ways, and I pray to him in the final tally, I won't be "an abomination" before God, as there ARE scriptures to that effect. " Thou shalt not sleep with a man as a woman... ". I don't care about hate mail, cause there is nothing I haven't heard before! Just tired of the restlessness. I have, and will always put God first, but I am what I am, and pray for forgiveness everyday! I repent of my sins like a broken record. There is no malice in my heart, but I've dealt with a great great deal of it. God forgive me of my sins, I thank the Lord for my blessings. Amen. Sermon over.

Why do people care who we love? Why are people so judgemental? What another person/people do is completely not my business. I believe in God, I have been raised in church, but never experienced the negative part of it that so many do. That being said, at 50 I've seen it all over the years. To this day being religious to me shouldn't be about judging other individuals, I think the ones that do need to remember worry about themselves, what they do on a daily basis through out their life. Telling people your evil, your a sinner, you're going to hell. Well those saying this first you are a sinner for judging, secondly I didn't realize you were holding the keys to heaven. To this day it still blows my mind that everyone worries about what someone else is doing. Take note what are you trying to accomplish? Worry about getting your own keys to the gate; instead of trying to be the landlord.

I am still angry against these haters. They attack and hate us for no good reason. There are so much good these people could do with that time and recourses in the world - help starving children, stop environmental destruction, work for decent treatment for animals, help people with serious injuries or handikaps, but instead they focus on doing all they can to prevent us from trying to live our lives and being as happy as we can. God is not on their side regardless of what their bronze-age book is stating!

I don't know about Canadian law, but I found the following mini-course in U. S. civil-rights law in the Comments of a popular website, and it is so good, I had to post it here:
OMG!!! OH MY GOD!!! BRAD PITT'S MOTHER (Jane Pitt) PENS ANTI-GAY-MARRIAGE LETTER!!! [to Mormon senator and presidential candidate, Mitt Romney]
Well, now we know why Jane's family is known as "the Pitts." (I hereby renounce any inspiration relating to "Pittbullshit".)
Marriage is not "matrimony." "Matrimony" is a religious value/concept which is not shared by all -- not even all Christian churches admit it as a "sacrament" -- and the First Amendment of the United States Constitution provides that a religious concept cannot be imposed by some citizens on others who do not share their religious views. Marriage is a civil status like incorporation -- indeed, it is a kind of incorporation. Through marriage, the state recognizes the common rights and obligations of two people. (The question of more than two has never been addressed constitutionally.) These legalities include the right to shared property and the obligation to honor debts contracted by the couple. And tax breaks and other arrangements with the state are also included. The rights and obligations of marriage are civil rights and therefore they may not be denied to any adult citizens capable of functioning as members of the state. Marriage is a civil right, and people must cease to deny the full exercise of this right to their fellow citizens.

I'm not gay myself but it's crazy to me that people are so stringent about things like this. They're almost militant about it. Why does it bother you if two gay guys want to get married? It's something that should be celebrated especially if it's true love. They lose their shit when two gay men want to marry but if a man and a woman married simply for some tax-dodging scheme they'd give it the okay. It's nonsensical. Idk if it's just because I'm from a younger generation (I'm 30) but it really does not bother me in the slightest. I guess because I'm not religious that probably factors in, but isn't the core principle of any religion to be compassionate and non-judgmental? Honestly if one of my sons grows up to be gay I hope he'd feel comfortable enough to tell me and feel comfortable in himself. I'd rather have a gay son than a dead son.

Christianity actually does not have a core of hatred. Its core is love, a set of skills to overcome hatred and to live in peace, justice, and harmony. Jesus spoke only of these, not once of hatred or violence against others.

They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” - Luke 12:51

I know wedding planners, florists bakers, and family law/ probate attorneys have gained new clientele. Gay folk have more choices to make in their personal lives, but otherwise there is zero impact to same sex marriage. I was hoping to get the right to marry who I wanted, before my eldest son got the right to marry who he wanted. It was close, but he actually turned 18 before Obergefell v Hodges came down.

One of the bible verses most quoted by those who are anti-gay is Leviticus 20:13, "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."
The problem for those supporting the anti-gay verse is that NO ONE follows most verses in Leviticus. People are not being put to death for cursing their mother and father in verse 9, nor for adultery in verse 10. They are not performing animal sacrifices per chapters 1-9, nor are they breaking dishes when someone has a venereal disease per chapter 15.
When we read the new testament gospels we find that those who upheld Mosaic law were the ones out to harm and kill Jesus. Jesus didn't follow all the Mosaic laws, he healed on the sabbath, his disciples weren’t fasting and he didn’t follow Leviticus 20:10 where those caught in adultery are to be killed. He instead said to the scribes and Pharisees, “He who is without sin, let him throw the first stone.”
Jesus introduced new teachings to replace the old. John 13:34 states, “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
Jesus was inclusive, tolerant and accepting of people’s differences and status in life. He spoke with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well when Jews were not supposed to socially interact. He ate with tax collectors and sinners. He healed the insane and the Roman centurion’s servant.
People should realize that breaking dishes for venereal disease, opposing LGBTQ+ lifestyles and animal/human sacrifice to appease God should be categorized as primitive, outdated beliefs.
Some so-called religious people claim those who are LGBTQ are going to hell. I have been to hundreds of seances with two of the finest mediums in the US. The spirit guide, Evening Star, talked about heaven and hell. She said they were different for different people. She cited the example of listening to rock n roll music. Some people would feel like they are in heaven while others would think they are in hell. “In my Father’s house are many mansions.” speaks of the variety and diversity in the Spirit World.
Please consider the following words from Rod McKuen, (not an exact quote, but close). "It does not matter who you love or how you love, but that you love. The good in man is God made manifest and loving is the contribution to that good and to that only God. For in the end the act of loving anyone is the act of loving God.”

Let me get this straight (no pun intended): I can be a gay person, which was never a choice, AND I can be a Catholic in good standing but I am not permitted to live a life of committed monogamous love with the person that I've been in a long term relationship unless I somehow decide to what --- live a life as a celibate? I cannot present my parter as my partner but any two random heterosexuals going to Church are certainly free to do so? They can at whatever point they want get married but I am expected to live my life essentially alone? NO THANKS! That's going to be a hard pass. Been there, done that and all I got was a life of misery. Here is a bit of background: I met my partner when we were in our 20s. We converted to Catholicism and became very active in the parish. My partner got ill for several years and then died in 2001. I was told by my priest to keep quiet about my relationship and not to reveal what my partner died from (AIDS) which he contracted before we ever met. I lost someone of 17 years I was actually told to lie about the cause by the priest. He said, " If you tell anyone what _____ died of they'll think badly of you, him, the Church and me (the priest). Until the Church begins to truly recognize the humanity of gay people, I want nothing to do with Her.
