I'm straight. I like women. And to be completely honest, if someone interrogated me and asked "why do you like women?" I would have no clue what to say. It's just always been that way. I just do. I have no interest in men. And no amount of "conversion therapy" is going to change that. My point is, sometimes "why" is a stupid question.

I think that’s a good attitude. No one can really answer why they love the people they love or why they enjoy the things they enjoy. Looking for some rationalization is both trivializing and futile

Agreed; I'm an entire homosexual and I've been asked that annoying question, "How do you find men attractive?" so many times. I mean...how do you even answer that? I guess it would have something to do with my brain being wired in a way that makes adult male attributes erotically stimulating to me and not adult female attributes but when I've used that as an answer, people still aren't satisfied. I've often found that the people who ask that question are assuming that everyone is naturally heterosexual but, at some point, I just woke up one day and was like, "You know...I think I'm going to start being attracted to men..." which, obviously, has been the case for exactly 0% of people.
This question is just a troll question IMO. If you asked someone 'Why is your favorite color red?" or "Why is your favorite movie genre horror?" you run into the same wall. Why does anyone enjoy any of the things they do? I understand the fascination in figuring out what makes people like certain things (I love learning what makes people tick) but expecting them to answer that themselves is kind of a fool's errand.

I actually had a expirence like this in school and it opened my eyes to how people think I'm bisexual and when the kids in my class found out one boy said while we had a free class said "it's discusting, how can you kiss girls? It's just wrong" I was taken back and kinda laughed looked him dead in the eyes and asked "how and why do u kiss girls?" he laughed and said cause their hot with a dead pan face I raised one of my eyebrows at him with the look and said well "nah stupid same thing for me" and I saw the light turn on the realisation in his face. This guy was not being Crual he wasnt being mean but he really didn't know, he didn't even realised he had asked the right question actually ask the question he Nedd to help him understand till he asked it. He never made to connection that it's the same thing I looked around the classroom and realised oh Holy craaapp NO One had made this connection the surprise and and realisation on my classmates faces was kinda terrorfying my sexuallity stopped being a thing quickly after this. I wasn't the only gay in the class tho I was the only out at the time but it didn't stay that way for long and I like to think I helped the others relax alittle. My father (now retired army officer) always uses that arguement about the "destruction of the structure of society" and one time I sat with him forever trying to untangle that.
I told him "what is that sacred structure?" He goes all out on the whole "Mariagge, kids, work, religion" etc.. So I tell him "then why do you oppose to people who fight for their right to get married, have kids, keep their jobs and actually be part of that same structure you're claiming they're destroying". That kinda put him into a rabbit hole. Because he was trying to use the "it's immoral" and I said that "morality" changes all the time except for this one thing. He went for the "it's not natural" and I explained to him that actually it's very natural. He said "kids watch them and get all confused" to which I replied "then why do the gay kids don't become straight by watching all the straights around them? In movies, shows, books, advertisements, their parents... Why are they still gay?"
After that endless talk he finally admitted "I understand what you're saying, but still it doesn't feel right". To which I said "that's what being conditioned is. The logic is there, the arguments are all there but you still cannot accept it with reasons that are beyond logic. Just a "feeling". And that feeling is usually cultivated and it's either hate or fear". He literally said "let's just agree to disagree" and I realised that he would never ever accept me.

the truth If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various hormones are introduced at specific times to accomplish this .The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is, therefore, born with a predetermined attraction. It is, therefore, not a choice & consequently not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural expression of mammals & found commonplace in nature. Intelligent research in this area clearly explains this process. If you are truly interested in truth, based on knowledge, the book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay shows this with numerous research articles. If you want to understand the truth & have respect for yourself & others this book will help. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by goat herders, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book. Don’t let the religious pull you down to their level of ignorance. Peace

Similarly, I was a teen when the AIDS crisis started and I was absolutely terrified. Having a born again mother and all the anti gay propaganda that was spewed on James Dobson radio, which played every day in our house, and not knowing anyone who was gay, I can certainly understand why the counselor went the ex gay route. I did too. Difference is I'm naturally difficult and I argued with the counselor about every so called cause of homosexuality. It's true what this man says, if you had any difficulty with either parent, then that's because you're "same-sex attracted" (was not allowed to say "gay", you're told you're straight but broken and that's why you think you're gay). If you had no problems with either parent, then you were molested, and if you say you weren't molested, then they counter with you just don't remember because it was so traumatic. Yet all that nonsense really stuck with me for YEARS. I constantly questioned whether he was right and I was wrong.

the truth If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Peace

RJ 1999 Well there are lesbians that are attracted to women so I don't know if you're speaking only for men or in general? If you're gay you'll be attracted to men and if you're a lesbian you'll be attracted to women. People weren't straight always but people aren't killed for being homosexual nowadays (at least in the west) that's why we see openly gay people now more than ever.

If you are going to try to convince a law student eligible for Harvard anything, you'd better have a really well-constructed case before you start. Building a case on prejudice is just not going to cut it. Boy would I love to have been a fly on the wall during that conversation!
