    I just have to say, Pete and Steve have a great chemistry. They work off each other really well, and it almost feels like watching sports caster commentary ala Disney. I think just the two of them just sitting like they are here, would make a great stand alone show. Loved it!

    As someone who doesn't live in Florida, what I don't like about things closing is not being able to get there to ride the attractions one more time before they're gone. I still remember thinking the dinosaurs at World of Energy were the coolest things when I was little (like five) and while I understand it was a long and boring ride to many, it was apart of the "de ja vu" moments I would have at Disney. Knowing I won't be able to experience that again before it closes is what makes me sad. I knew it had to go, just hoped I would be able to ride it one last time before it did.

    Epcot the theme park never was Walt's vision. Walt's vision for E.P.C.O.T. died when they built EPCOT Center. The theme park 'Epcot' was the vision of the company after he died that didn't have the balls or know-how to carry through Walt's true vision of a planned city. EPCOT Center is not Walt! Why do Disney fans not get this?

    • @aan0409
      @aan0409 7 лет назад

      Kanao Kanegon I have always wondered this as well.

    • @paulabolstein1328
      @paulabolstein1328 7 лет назад +4

      Kanao Kanegon Celebration is closer to Walt's original vision than EPCOT. Doesn't have the futuristic look of the original design (think future city model seen on WEDWAY People Mover), but it's the closest thing at Disney to a city where you live & work.

    • @cayoooga
      @cayoooga 7 лет назад +5

      You are correct that Celebration is closer to Walt's original vision of E.P.C.O.T. Unfortunately, it still isn't what he wanted. Even some say the entire WDW property is EPCOT in a way because of its infrastructure and transportation systems and the fact that people stay overnight on the property. The Disney company has been spinning it for years with their PR department. And I'm not knocking the theme park 'Epcot'. It was a good theme park in its early years and still has the potential to be good again. I guess I just get tired when I hear people say Disney is straying away from Walt's vision of Epcot by making these changes. The theme park already did stray from Walt's vision from the beginning.

    • @kingposeidon4535
      @kingposeidon4535 7 лет назад +2

      While it is a bit frustrating that people don't acknowledge this point, the original EPCOT did in many ways feel like an extension of Walt. It was unique and innovative, and the dark rides were on a level with Pirates and Haunted Mansion. I'm sure the new IP based rides will be entertaining, but they'll lack that sense of wonder and creativity of the original park.

    • @cayoooga
      @cayoooga 7 лет назад +2

      King Poseidon, Yes "EPCOT Center" as it was called back then had that sense of wonder and was very much in the spirit of Walt's ideas. In fact there were plans for an industrial showcase somewhere on the WDW propety when Walt and his men where planning for WDW back in the1960's. Future World feels close to that idea of an industrial showcase. It just wasn't Walt's core ideas for E.P.C.O.T. the city. I visited "EPCOT Center" the first year it was open and it was a pretty special place, but even back then with the name EPCOT attached to the theme park I knew it wasn't Walt's final dream and vision for the Florida property. I grew up in the 1960's reading about Walt's plan for a futuristic city so I've always had a problem with the name attached to the park. In fact in its first year of operation it was explained that the park was called 'EPCOT Center" to differentiate it from Walt's planned city E.P.C.O.T. One attraction at Epcot that I did think was truly part of Walt's vision and ideas was "The Land" pavilion which actually demonstrated new technology in use in a real way and actually used the food product that resulted from applied new technology in the pavilion's restaurants and food outlets. I do think you are right that the IP driven attractions will alter the park and that sense of discovery and wonder will disappear somewhat. The tastes of today's guests has definitely changed.

    I understand that in order to develop a country pavillion, Disney partners with a local bussiness from the country, and if there is really the case for a Brazil pavillion, they are doing a good job keeping under wraps, as there's no rumors at all down here about it, other than the most recent ones just before the D23.

    Re EPCOT and World's Fairs....just as Disney changed World's Fairs for all time with the NY fair attractions that came back to Disneyland, EPCOT basically made a permanent World's Fair which obsoleted, over time, traditional world's fairs and now that that concept is very clearly "over" well, it is fair enough for EPCOT to evolve into something new. In a way, the same thing happened in the world of Circus where the Cirque Du Soliel attractions basically obsoleted the Ringling-style ones (and please, don't let this concept be an excuse for a PETA discussion, ok?) The fact is the world evolves. Anyone who is against all progress or evolution of entertainment because Walt personally wouldn't have been able to even imagine it presume that if he were alive today he wouldn't want a modern car with airbags and digital controls instead of a 1937 Packard.

Every panel had people lining up 2-3 hours before and the main floor had a limited amount of things to do compared to other years. Lots of people were complaining when I was there, Disney needs to work on crowd control and entertainment at D23.

    I do not think Magic Kingdom got a night time parade because they want to push the night time activities at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and most importantly Animal Kingdom. Because of this, they can wait a bit to really create something special, hopefully. Plus they still are pushing the new Happily Ever After.

    A few tips for going to D23:
    1: Bring fold-able chairs and cell phone battery chargers
    2: Doors close for early morning arrivals at 7 am (you will be sleeping/sitting/standing in Hall E). Otherwise you will be waiting outside in the heat till 9-11 am (you will miss the big panels)
    3: Disney Store has the limited edition items, MOG has the imagineer's merchandise and pins, and Disney Dream store has D23 merchandise and anniversary posters.
    4: Day 2 is usually the day to buy (because everyone is at the Live Action panel and the Animation panel). Queue was 30 minutes at the end of the day.
    5: Stage passes and Store passes are a must. You can attend a panel, then move to the next panel without sacrificing a spot in line. Only downside is that you will miss the morning panels.
    6: Watch out for free swag! I got theater sized posters from Pixar, toys from Marvel, key chains, etc. all over the convention center.
    7: Dick Van Dyke can be spotted walking around the expo. Keep an eye out for him!
    8: You can get good hotel deals when they start selling tickets exactly 1 YEAR BEFORE the next D23. D23 does reserve a hotel block for the surrounding hotels (THEY DO SELL OUT).
    9: You are allowed to bring sleeping bags, pillows, air cushions, etc. overnight and pack it away before 7 am (they will give you a wristband to hold your spot to put away your things)
    10: There is a bag check area (cash only, $2 per bag) for your store bought items
    11: Bring a sturdy bag that can carry drinks and food if you want to avoid the food trucks
    12: July is peak season for D-land/DCA. Expect a crowd at both parks.
    13: Annual passes or D23 Gold passes can give you discounts at the stores.

  • @kingposeidon4535

    I can't remember the source of these rumors, but I did see some commentary on the Star Wars hotel. It's my understanding that it'll be open a limited number of times per year and will only be open on weekends when it is. Because it is a completely new and immersive type of experience, a stay will probably cost anywhere between $3000-4000 and will have access to Galaxy's Edge and will be located in the space where the HWS road is currently being rerouted from. It's not just a "hotel" but an entire experience. The pricing seems pretty high, but one could come to Disney and spend money exclusively on this experience and be entertained for the duration of the stay.
    Hopefully, if this is how the experience pans out, I think more "event hotels" could pop up. It would be interesting to see one based conceptually around the Haunted Mansion. Imagine gathering for a seance with Leota or partaking in a haunted ballroom dance with guests and staff dressed in Victorian costume.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 7 лет назад

      Indeed. It sounds to me as if this isn't a hotel that you'd use as the base for a traditional Disney World visit, going to different parks every day--staying there and playing out your story (maybe integrated with time in Galaxy's Edge) would be the whole vacation.
      Personally, it sounds exhausting to me, and if they go that route I suspect Disney's going to find out there's demand for a lighter-weight version of the experience, especially for families with younger kids. They may have to do a tiered model in which you can just stay in a sort of Star Warsy hotel for less money, with the wraparound dress-up LARP experience with missions and actors as the premium product.

    Such a hard thing to try to hold on to the past and nostalgia yet proceed with the future to make everyone happy So that everything isn't outdated. There are certainly things that should never be changed yet things that are ok to get rid of to make room for progress. That's the hard part I think. Pleasing the masses because everyone probably has different "old favorites" but definitely some are classics that shouldn't ever go away. Who knows what Disney would really look like if Walt were still alive. There was only one Walt so we will never know. Hopefully there will continue to be some awesome imagineers that keep putting out some awesome ideas that keep blowing us away. Love Disney the feeling I get is like millions of others that just "get it" ... great job guys . Love watching you all

    I most agree that the biggest let down was that there is no announcement for a night time parade at our Magic Kingdom.
    I have been to 4 of the magic kingdoms and while our MK in Orlando is the most visited one, it is the least care for from the company including its predecessor Disneyland park.
    A nighttime parade is a part of the MK, there is no excuse for them not having one. (Disneyland has now one parade for each park)
    At least we are finally getting two new things at MK without closing something else as it has been in the past. Yet taking into consideration that it is the most visited park on earth, there should be more and they should stop taking the revenue from Orlando to build International parks (which if you can go and visit, I would highly recommend, they are very nice)

  • @ddc163264
    @ddc163264 7 лет назад +9

    You're wrong! Yes, it's a business. But Walt ALWAYS said and did this. Take care of the guests first, make their experience more than what they expect and the shareholders and the company will be fine. The stories are ENDLESS about how many times Roy would tell him about the money and he would go beyond what Roy said to make things better. As well as how many times they mortgaged their properties and more to make his ideas come true. That is NOT JUST a business decision. Forget about Walt's dream? Really. We would still have the parks of Six Flags and coney island if not for Walt. Look at what happens when you forget Walt's dreams... you get DCA a 1.0 billion dollar debacle and have to do a nearly 2 billion dollar fix, just to get some level of a draw.

    • @chuckoneill2023

      McTwist --- nonsense!! Loss of creativity was the problem then. Loss of creativity (and funneling money to China) is the problem now. They are infusing creativity from the media group in to the parks group. If the imagineers were given the freedom to come up with their own ideas (and allowed to spend on them) it might not be needed.

    If Disney had kept up the Worlds Fair theme in Futureworld it would have been great, but they have long since stepped away from that. Epcot being Walt's vision has never been more than a wink and nod anyway. I love the fact that Disney is bringing Epcot back to being an interesting destination and look forward to experiencing it when completed. I never experienced the original Imagination Pavilion and wish they would put Journey Into Imagination back to what I heard it was, but apparently that isn't going to happen.
    As far as the new hotels, the Star Wars Resort sounds very cool, but I wonder when Disney will finally reach the point when the super expensive rooms finally out number the people that can either afford or are willing to pay them. I know we can no longer justify spending the money for even the values (except for super rare and special occasions) when all we use the room for is to sleep.

    It sucks that the only parade in WDW right now is Festival of Fantasy. I like FoF and all, but I miss Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade (can't they make a new AK parade now with Pandora/Rivers of Light construction done?). I understand that Studios is a mess right now so there's no parades there, but oy. Will definitely avoid Studios until Toy Story/the new Mickey and Minnie ride opens. (Side note, how long do you guys think it will be until our Fantasmic! gets a reboot, too?)

    PETE! A good friend of mine from Daytona once came out to see Disneyland with us and, at that moment in the old original Fantasmic! show where, during the pink elephants segment, a character says "PACHYDERMS!!!!" THOUGHT he heard instead... "BAG O' DIRT!" so I guess "Bagadicks" is "part of that magic" too! ROTFL!

    Do you believe that the outside face of The Great Move Ride, the Chinese Theatre, will still be there after the inclusion of the Mickey ride? Ever since we lost the sorcerer's hat Hollywood Studios hasn't had a park icon and the Chinese Theatre kinda became the icon. I'd hate to lose that.

    People can shit on Disney guest service compared to universal but Disney still surpasses. An old man dressed as a regular guest came up to me last time I was in Magic Kingdom and we talked (I'm only 18, 17 at the time) and at the end he asked me if I had one wish what would it be and I was stunned I had no clue how much I could ask for so I turned to my family on the other side of this column and we decided just to ask for a fastpass for a ride that had a huge line. It turns out he was one of the heads of Magic Kingdom I wish I could remember his name but he was someone pretty high up in Disney he revealed (seriously kicking myself for blanking on the name I know I wrote it somewhere) He was surprised that was all we asked for and asked if there was anything else but I decided to say no that this was plenty because it truly was enough just to have the experience. Just a wild experience. My family is always lucky and manages to get picked for these special random things, like at rafiki's planet watch we got picked for the super special back your they do a few times a month. We get special rare pins for the tour and everything. Crazy. I've never had a bad experience with a cast member. Ever. At all. They always go above and beyond to please and right any "wrong".

    I doubt they'll be fixing the line situation any time soon. After I went to the first D23 I assumed the hellish lines and terrible wait management were just growing pains, and that they'd learn from that first year and improve. But every year since has been getting worse, not better, as the convention becomes more popular. The wait just to get in, even when you already have your ticket, is particularly egregious. Then you get in and told you have to wait in another 4 hour line to browse the Mickey's of Glendale merch...

    I don´t understand why expectations are high for "Ratatouille" coming to Epcot. To be honest: Visiting this at Paris i thought of it as the most underwhelming attraction ever. Not being completely against "screen-based" attractions - but Peter Pan stills gives me some goosebumps flying through the window, Ratatouille tries to give the feeling of a little mouse running around the kitchen and IMHO simply fails...

    "Bag of dicks" is an understatement. This was my second D23 and probably my last. The signings in particular were so poorly orchestrated, I couldn't believe it. There were no lines set up in advance for them and guests were just expected to "check in" on whether they were giving wristbands out for the signing yet. There was no set time and I had already missed out on Brad Bird an hour before the signing so I showed up two hours early for Michael Giacchino because there was no way I was missing that. Well, as we waited in the area that the wristband giveaway/signing area was, the convention staff started yelling at us for standing there and said we had to keep moving. How are we supposed to get wristbands then? The yelling increased and we decided to start a circle parade in the area so that we were technically still "moving." With a little less than an hour to go, so many people had showed up that nobody could move in that area. Thats when it got worse. The staff yelled at us some more and said they weren't giving out any wristbands until the area was clear. Good luck with that! About 15 of us who had been there since the beginning, became friends and tried moving to the side in hopes some people would clear out. Thats when one of my "parade pals" taped me on the shoulder and said one of the staff was secretly handing out tickets for the signing in another area. WHAT? How does that make any sense? A secret ticket distribution in another area on the floor? I booked it over there and asked her if she had a ticket to the Michael Giacchino signing and with a major attitude problem she responded "yes, but don't tell anyone, or I'll come and find you." WTF? Too bad! I went looking for the people I was with to make sure they got a ticket for the signing. When it was finally time for the signing. I thanked MG for coming to the Expo and asked if he was scoring the Han Solo movie. That's when the security guy yelled at me to keep moving and exit the signing area. Some serious changes need to be made to this expo.
    Pete forgot to mention that the folks who received a free ticket to either the live action panel or parks panel also received park tickets to Disneyland/CA Adventure. Are you kidding me? I was in line for panels that I didn't get in, and didn't receive free tickets to stuff. Get there earlier. I got in to the animation panel because I went at 4am.

    It's not heresy. You can't say that ALL of Walt's ideas were gold. He, like everyone else makes mistakes. He kept working on the parks, and if he were alive he would have worked on Epcot too I think.

    • @cayoooga
      @cayoooga 7 лет назад

      To begin with 'Epcot' the theme park was not Walt's idea. It was built because the company he founded didn't have the balls or know-how to tackle his final project E.P.C.O.T. The theme park should've never been given the name 'Epcot' because it never reflected Walt's idea of real functioning city of the future. I'm all for Disney completely redoing this park.

    I'm still disappointed at the lack of any investment in the UK pavillion at Epcot. it never fails to astound me how much UK based material Disney has and yet how underused the UK pavillion is. Given the sheer volume of available material, how isn't there attraction? If you can shoehorn Frozen into Norway, you can do something with the UK, even if it's just a film

    RE Hotel pricing--a question: IF we presume (as I do) that you're right and this becomes the priciest hotel at WDW, and presuming there is only a sector of the overall audience that can/will pay for this level of accomodation (basically the Grand audience now, and maybe the high-end suite audience at a few of the other top hotels) and presuming those people go to the StarWars Hotel and thus are NOT at the others....if that sector economically doesn't grow as fast as this sudden infusion of high end offerings, will the formerly-priciest become, relatively speaking CHEAPER and thus MORE accessible to the middle-level consumers who NOW cannot afford them? In other words, for the upper middle level consumer, is the LOSS of the StarWars high end experience translatable as a GAIN of availability at the Grand?

    • @abbytarpey
      @abbytarpey 7 лет назад

      Yes and no? The Grand has an audience that wants to stay at a MK resort that has that high quality era about it. That is not the same audience that would go to a Star Wars themed hotel. But, it mostlikely won't be such a draw everyone wants to go to, only that normal grand audience.
      So yes I could see it as a gain that the Grand will be easier to book.
      But, no, the actual price would not change much at all. The Grand is well Grand so it will still be considered a top hotel for a while (until it gets too outdated). So yes it's a gain but not in the way you're thinking. The price could drop slightly, but it isn't like only the Grand crush will be going over to Star Wars.

    • @dlfendel2844
      @dlfendel2844 7 лет назад

      I'm just thinking that all of that "you are a character and your rep follows you etc. etc." stuff that is planned for Galaxy's Edge seems to be intended for the hotel, too, and the tech of that will cost more. Already we've seen major hotels doing things like (For one example, the Wynn in Vegas) putting Amazon Echo in every room to control alarms, lights, media, messages, etc. etc. But they are doing it as a co-sponsorship thing to cover the expense. Disney doing it with their own original tech not an outside brand will up the game. Eventually they'd add that to the Grand etc. too, but not quite the same thematic detail in the Grand scheme of things (though it would be fun to have a "jarvis-like" Victorian butler or valet voice-gizmo in your Grand room to do those things, huh?)

    It doesn't matter what they decided to call Star Wars Land as we (the general public) are going to refer to it as Star Wars Land regardless. Just like Pandora the World of Avatar is going to be known simply as "Pandora". I dislike the name they chose. All those imagineers and execs and "Galaxy's Edge" is the best they had? I am excited about all the other new restaurants, attractions, and the new theater and show coming to Main St. USA. I really wanted to hear what they were going to do with my beloved Figment. He needs his own brand new attraction. Thanks all of you for working so hard and bring us to D23 with you!
