German National Anthem at 13:36 cracks me up :D Wonder how many people will actually recognize it lol Aloha from Germany, my friend!
I did and I'm not German 😂
Caught me as well. Greetings from Germany.
I never click faster than when I see a new Homemade Home video!
9000 House Please !! Been WAY TOO LONG !!
This is the biggest "that ain't goin nowhere" project I've ever seen. Good luck to the people that try to tear this thing down in 200 years.
Can’t believe you’re worried about that building go anywhere. 🥴
I love it! You’ve done a wonderful job. 😃
I spent my younger years trying to be a rich and powerful concert pianist and got good enough that the Army allowed me to join so long as I didn’t play the piano… which is all a long way to say that I get a huge kick out of your musical selections -- I came here for the woodworking/DIY content and the eclectic, classical heavy music selections you use have been a welcome bonus that I love! I can’t imagine there are many others out there share our tastes and I salute you, fellow lover of fine music :)
I love that you’re using the bark. So often it’s thrown away but it’s beautiful
As a German in the same age as you and renovating an old farm house I appreciate your uploads so much. Your work ethic is inspiring. Greetings!
As a.
Was that the German national Anthem that he played?
not necessarily - it is the melody of the national anthem of Germany, but it is not exclusively that. There are other pieces with that melody.@@richardtucker5686
This is a very unique design. Pole barn construction with a 2nd floor living/work space. The aged patinaed metal roof with shed dormers and bark siding - timeless!
i may be really ignorant or naive about this, but bark siding! what a great idea.
The German national anthem as background music!? Nice!
9:07 thats talent right there
14:00 As another German I was shocked to hear the melody of my national anthem. Your music picks are close to my taste but that one knocked me off my feet.
I like those metal braces. Very nice.
Tree bark siding/shingles that's cool.
I can't help but wish there were three or four of you! Your videos are a constant source of joy, and I genuinely appreciate the fantastic content you create. Keep up the great work!
Bark siding is really nice.
Everything looks nice and solid!
Thank you. Really like it when you explain your thoughts. Cool! :)
I'm always jealous of what you get to do for a living
Videos make it look a lot more magical than it really is.....there's no music track and 20x speed in real life.
@@homemadehome5575 I understand. It's the same for me with my own projects. But I would love to have someone I could call and join on more projects.
There's not a lot of people doing the things you do. Keep it up, it's always a great watch
That bark peeling was incredible.
The brackets are great work…
Keep adding these touches of welded structure and your project might be well described as Rural Industrial Craftsman. :)
Nice weld's, thanks for sharing. Ron PTL USA
I hope you enjoy making these as much as we enjoy following along.
(Don’t let life’s never-ending parade of shtuff get you down. You’re doin it right bubba.)
Hi, I was wondering if you finished the house you were working in. If so, I missed the final tour. I'm intrigued with this structure, it has evolved from one thing to another. Very interesting.
Nice choice of background music.
We want the other house video !!!!
Too bad you don't live near me. You could have all the poplar trees and bark you wanted....for free. Great job. Your attention to detail is spot on. I would just go ahead and make metal braces for all the post in that area.
I think it would be interesting to hire an engineer to review your design and see what they have to say in a video.
It looks wonderful.
Hope you are enjoying the holiday seasons with your family. Sure have enjoyed your journey over the years, thanks for sharing.
Love the bracing, the poplar sidding is a very nice look. Always enjoy your work my friend.
Wow, I'd thought of using bark for roofing but not siding.....ingenious!
Very Nice looking support. I would suggest drilling a weep hole in the lower corner just to bleed off any possible moister buildup that make collect over time, keep it from puddling and prematurely rusting thru. Typically the diagonal angle iron would be flipped with the horizontal and vertical angles run into the top flange so you don't create a water pocket in the corner. Never seen someone use the bark as shingles before, my home was built in the 50's and originally had cedar shingles and i was surprised how intact they were after 70 years in the elements. The bottom 3' of the house, the portion that was mostly exposed was really only the part that needed replacing but it would of looked funny with 3' of hardi and the rest 70 year old singles. keep up the good work!
You can still buy cedar shakes, sawn or split. I used them on a project.
Your talent and ambition is amazing. 😊 It's been a while, glad to see you.
You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
coming along nicely!...last thing I expected though was the German national anthem! 🙂
Godspeed.
Thanks for filming. 😁👍🏼
dedication and hard work payd off... well done keep it up ...
Nice work man
I"ve never heard of bark siding...very impressive.
I always enjoy your vids. Reminds me of myself when I was much younger. Some of my happiest hours were spent building my studios, shops (one set when I was young and still actively touring and entertaining musically and otherwise so they were larger and the other set here at my retirement cabin in NC and they are a bit smaller) and sheds etc. mostly by myself. A lot of reflective time. Work, but mentally restful if you know what I mean. Now I mostly create vids for youtube but I love that as well. Again, I enjoy watching your vids!
Hello! this comment is not specifically to this video, but overall: I have watched many of your videos. the land and nature around is very beautiful! I´d really like to know in which state you are. I understand, if you don´t want to disclose your location, because it could be a hassle, in that case which corner of the US? Thank you
your Videos are great! very interesting, I learned a lot and I do like also the specific focus on a task, like in later videos. Like on plumbing or ...
And I totally agree and I like that you point that out to still keep older things, if they still work perfectly instead of changing everything out and do all new things. The older things were built waaay better. I had a stove, which was 40 years old, until it stopped working! And I still use an Iron from the 70 or 80ties! 😀
This is a cool project, but I am very excited to hear you plan on posting a $9,000 House video soon.
Been so long I forgot about Homemade home's $9000 house.
Looking good. Glad to see more videos on your builds.
Always wonderful to see you. Looking forward for more videos. 😊😊
Always look forward to your videos! The man-cave is a work of art and is gorgeous!
The siding is really cool and unique. Cheers!
Yay another video. Thanks for posting. Hope you and family have a merry Christmas. ❤
Lovely brackets
I really like the poplar siding.
The german national anthem at 13:37 confused me as a german pretty much
Ha, I didn't know it was the anthem, only that it sounded German to me and I liked it.
As a.
Coming along nicely bubba
I have that same hobart welder, works great.
Love it!
Merry Christmas to you and thanks for the content. Loving the chickens, so much fun.
As a good german, I stood up and sang our national anthem, now we insist on having the german flag beside the US flag on top of this building after you finished it :-)
Ha, excellent. For years I've had trouble out of you Germans being critical of our foreign ways of building, perhaps this will bring peace between our countries.
As a.
What does that mean?@@kattihatt
That anthem sounds like a Kingdom Hall hymn.
@@dontrend5956owned a BMW. Lol
awesome videos, always great music selection, today made mechuckle, the German Anthem in it ;)
What's the hold up on the 9000 house ???
Looking forward to your content. Maybe I’m crazy but I enjoy what you do and your thoughts.
Awesome
Good to hear your planning on more videos. Hope to see another nutcracker this year
prefix: i have no craftsmanship license or trying to be a smartass. i've enjoyed all your videos and think your content is amazing. Is there a different between using treated wood, dried wood, or straight off the tree? i would love to be able to do this some day.
Treated wood (pressure treated) has a chemical impregnated into the wood inside of pressure tanks. The wood is put into long, cylindrical tanks. The end is closed and the tank fills with a preservative, then the tank is pressurized and the preservative is forced into the wood. The wood is supposed to be around 20% or less moisture content when this is done. In theory the preservative keeps the microorganisms that eat the wood (rot) from doing so, it also keeps other bugs from eating the wood (termites). This is assuming it was a successful treatment of the lumber and that the treatment stays in the wood. Pressure treated wood in the ground can have issues of the preservative leaching out over time and once it goes below the threshold, rot will start to occur. Hence the plastic sleeves by Post Saver on my vertical support posts. They break ground contact.
Dry wood is just dry wood, it will rot, whether, be eaten by bugs at what ever the normal characteristics of the wood type dictates.
Fresh wood or "Green" wood is the same as dry wood in that it has no protection other than what is natural for the wood. Being wet makes it less predictable. As wood dries, it changes. Wood shrink as it drys and this shrinking can cause it to warp, bow, cup, twist, etc. When the wood is dry, it has already done so, so you are able to be fairly certain it's not going to change too much. When wood is wet there's no telling what it's going to do so you have to be careful how you use it. Experience helps, I use it where I know I can when I don't have time for it to dry.
Lastly, dry does not mean dry, it just means around 20% moisture in my area on average. This basically just stabilizes it, meaning it will have done what it's going to do by then. Although wood that has dried in the shade then put in the sun can still move, split, etc.
Pressure treated wood is for exposed areas, prone to getting wet, in contact with soil, etc.
Plain wood is for protected areas.
Hope this helps.
Cool
Nice.👍👍👍
You have bracing along the long walls of the building. You may want to add bracing along the width of the building to add strength when wind hits the long walls. Its suprising how many 100 year old barns fail when steel columns replace old wood posts and no bracing is restored at top where post meets floor beams.
It will get bracing in all different directions by the end. Fortunately I don't live in a super windy area, but when it blows it blows and it only takes a second.
Hey😊 how’s the 9k house going?😊
I did not know that Hobart made anything other than giant mixers and cooking implements.
And people with welders are surprised when they find out about the kitchen stuff.
@@homemadehome5575 It's kinda like Yamaha making dirt bikes and pianos.
That's a really cool building! Can't wait for the next video! I hope you can find the time to post more videos.
Will you be able to hook up the car to the mill and drive it straight out? Or do you have to turn the whole thing to the side, and then hook it up? It's hard to tell in the video.
Will be able to pull it straight out the end of the building
Men shouldn't need a man cave.
It's our house, we paid for it !
when are you going to finish the house and rent it out?
Love your videos, but PLEASE use cutting fluid on your chop saw blade! it will extend the life of it! I have never before saw bark as an option for siding- love it!
Have you made anymore nutcrackers?
No idea if it's applicable but saw it in another hobby, bark can develop mold so they suggested baking it in the oven just in case, although they worked with much smaller chunks
Mold grows on pretty much everything when the conditions are right.
Just had a strange thought; I've watched this channel for 3-4 years and I'm not sure I've heard this guys name. He does all his vids solo, so no one else is on camera to reference him by name and he never has a formal intro. Just an odd thought...
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND putting braces on those trusses so to preven them from rotating before you even think about hanging doors from them!! Believe it or not they WILL ROTATE UNDER LOAD!!!!
Bark siding is pretty, but how long is it going to last? I live in florida, those pin nails holding the bark on would rust through within a year out here.
I used 18 gauge staples to pin them in place, then came back with Maze brand galvanized ring shank nails in the bottom corners of every shingle. The bark will last plenty long, I assume a very long time up under the overhangs.
How does the bark shingle compare to a regular asphalt one or even vinyl siding? I imagine the lifespan of the bark would be less, but you certainly can't beat the price of free!
With the amount of labor these are far more costly than something i could buy and install easier. As far as longevity, I think as siding it will be a lifetime lifespan. I would not do this as roofing, only siding and i bet they will outlast vinyl siding by multiple times. It’s not going to be affected by the sun the same. Time will tell
Over kill is always better than adequate.
#360
what's that triangular thing called that he's welding at 10:50?
Just some sort of brace....support..or whatever one wants to call it.
Your stilt shouse / mancave is standing...BUT..you need some WIND BRACES ASAP!
Next BIG WIND WILL WORRY THIS STRUCTURE UNLESS YOU Brace it ASAP!
This dude will do anything to not put up a vid for the $9,000 house. xD
adding braces is never wrong. all the things you do starting as a single man and now married with kids. it is a juggling act you got this if you are like me building the Man Cave is relaxing. tell me im wrong. my2cents
The German national Anthem ??😂
Yes, I thought it was funny for some reason...I didn't realize it was the anthem but knew it sounded German.
@@homemadehome5575 love your Videos! Greetings from Nürnberg Germany!😁
I noticed the name and figured you a German. Hope the anthem made you feel at home watching.
why has this channel almost stopped making content?
Channel = fuck it when ever.
