Sawmill video - • SAWMILL - The Machine ...
This is Ep. 2 of the off grid build. This structure will serve many purposes which will probably change throughout time. For now it will serve as a both a place to stay and play. The ground level will keep my sawmill covered and me out of the elements when milling lumber. It will have additional space to store lumber, equipment and work outdoors on projects without getting rained on. The second floor over the main structure will be a 16X14 paradise, it will be set up like a one room cabin. While I will not live here, I will stay here on occasion and so will any guest I may have. I'm not sure of the exact details but it will have basic furniture including a bed, table/desk and seating. I will use it as an office and creative space on top of a place to get my beauty sleep. I am looking forward to the interior finishings such as the flooring, wall paneling and making windows, including stained glass. I plan on making everything, the furniture, flooring and so on.....I even want to make the quilt that will cover the bed. While this building will serve a purpose it is a novelty project in terms of the level I want to be crafted. I'm not saying it's going to be "Perfect" I simply mean I am going to do whatever I want......and so should you. Thank you for watching.

I set my house up with it about a week ago and I'm very pleased and feel safe
Have you thought about a rainwater collection system? It's always nice to have water to wash tools or for clean up without taxing well water or city water. Just a thought. I'm excited to see what you have planned.
@@kiplarson4469 yes, currently experimenting on my house, just collected about 300 gallons in one hour off of only 30 feet of gutter. I was blown away. It did rain hard for about 15 min but the rest was a pretty normal rain. If you collected off the whole house all night you’d fill a swimming pool.
My vote: gable dormers, wrap-around lean-to's, extended roof. Rock on!
I have to agree on this one.. Gable dormers, wrap-around lean-to and the fullsize extended roof.
I agree, these make the best end result for your needs.
Yup, you'll never wish that you made your workspace smaller...
You should of named this series "1 man, 1 Cabin" :D Just blows my mind what you can do with just 1 man. Great job man. I enjoy these videos.
Well it's not really one man. His dad helps him a lot with these, he just doesn't seem to want to be on camera.
Its pretty normal for one person to do this especially with a tractor, its neat but nothing overly impressive
I agree
Such a gorgeous book - each shed is unique and inspiring, and I love all the tiny details Kotite features to help readers imagine how to create their own She Sheds ruclips.net/user/postUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR . The feature on Dinah's Rustic Retreat is like something from a fairy tale. It's really inspiring to see how creative all these ordinary people are in making beautiful and useful spaces on a modest scale.
And to think I always thought the foundation had to be laid first. Thanks for posting.
On his next shed build he’ll start with the roof😂
The fact that you’re building this all out of lumber you milled yourself is pretty mind blowing.
That's awesome you got to mill your own wood from the same land It's built on 👍
What a creative way to have extra hands on deck when needed. Doing this by yourself? Amazing! Working Smarter not Harder!
I use a ladder as second person when building flat pack furniture. This is a bigger version of that. Plus side is that you don't get any complaints and they stay still.
I think the dormer gives you needed headroom at the top of the stairs.
I actually love seeing different projects being done. I get bored watching one getting worked on over and over. Love your videos and love seeing each one slowly all get finished eventually. Lol
Looking at what you are doing it looks like it would be ideal to place the staircase to the second floor outside the present structure but underneath the covered lean-to structure so that it leads up into the dormer so that you keep unobstructed floor space on the second floor. I was also thinking that one part of the lean-to could become a second story deck where you could relax outside at that second level to overlook your domain. Will be interesting to see what you end up with, your creativity is unlimited. All the best, Bob
I vote on gable end dormers but make the dormer ridge beam at the same elevation as the main structure ridge beam so that the overview looks kind of like a star. Even more quirky which I think fits the style, and even more useful room for you in the loft
You are one of the hardest working men that I know (through RUclips)!! Can't wait for the next video! Love all of your channels!
You’re way over my head here, pal. Whatever you think will work best sounds good.
You’ve gone over to the dark side, from destroying concrete blocks to… making them?
Have you, thought about, putting the stairs outside of the building, adds more interior space
That sounds like a really interesting idea! It would add interest to the current structure outline, and may alleviate all headroom issues, as well as allowing more flexibility with the pitch of the stairs. I hope he considers this!
You could do something really unique with the dormers and combine the two. Have a raised A-frame dormer. It would add more overall volume, and give it a custom look with exceptional functionality. Like little houses protruding out of the roof. 👍🏼
You seem like such a pure and genuine person. The world could use more people like you
Looking forward to this series!
Already looking forward to seeing you drywall again. I know how much you love it.
Headroom at top of stair? Even with 12:12 pitch, the 30" knee wall doesn't allow enough height at the top of the stair. A dormer could add the needed height, but based on your floorplan the stair landing is in the corner which IMO isn't the best location for a dormer. Since you're not building this to meet residential (or commercial) stair building codes I wondering what your plans are? How are you planning to obtain enough headroom at the top of the stair? I guess I'd consider starting the stair right at the open end and if you go with 14 risers (13 treads - each 10") the stairs will end 58" from the inside of the rear wall. That'd allow for a dormer o add the needed headroom, while still keeping the dormer roughly 24" short of the gable end which will look good from the outside.
If you do go with your sketch of placing the top landing tight to the corner, I'd rethink making it only 30". Obviously that doesn't meet code but beyond that, it'd just make a tight turn into the space. Granted you're not going to be working on big pieces upstairs, but it'd be nicer if there was a little more space at the top of the stair since you have to turn immediately.
just some questions/thoughts.
Considering things like a desk, chair etc being moved upstairs could get tight. A guest bed or couch would be impossible.
My five year old grand son asked me why is he doing that I told him he is living his dream. You have to work for what you want thank you for all your video content.
It's funny how you spent all that time and effort demolishing a concrete pier in your other house, but now create 10 new ones - it's like the concrete piers are winning. Procreating. Getting into your brain and forcing you to make more of them. Conspiracy theory? I don't think so.
Bwaaaa haaaa haaaa‼️🤣🤣
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂
Full Wrap-around Lean-to's and also Gable windows. Keep living the dream!
I love the whole concept of this build and its multiple uses. A getaway, a sawmill, and somewhere for projects, etc.. Really nice.
I love the distinct smell of removing concrete forms! Reminds me of progress!
You are so inventive! A real one man show!!! So entertaining and I formative.
I love these videos! Thanks for always making awesome content!
Love the tractor, makes working alone not so bad lol.
Cool video. Looking forward to seeing more of the build
Getting these notifications is the BEST!
Maybe make a balcony for the second floor out of the end opposite of the long over hang. It would also serve as an over hang on that side. Dual purpose. Much better than just a little roof thingy i think. either way the building will be pretty sweet.
Make the roof a simple shallow saddle roof but with large overhangs on all sides. Gives you a porch and room to store stuff outside under the overhang. (And more room for solar panels and solar water heater.
You're capabilities are astounding. What you can build and the obstacles you overcome are amazing. Keep up the great work!
It will be fun to see this building evolve. Thanks for sharing.
I know it's going to be a good day when you post a video. Great job.
I like your musical accompaniment. Every time it`s beautiful music.
That's a nice view of land. Enjoy the nature that surrounds your new spot
This was a fun video. I like the idea of another building at the end of the long lean to and I like the idea of a wrap around lean to and the addition of gable dormers in the loft room.
This is going to be an awesome shop and storage area when you get it all done.
Also, looking forward to watching you finish up that rental that you've been working on.
What you can do amazes me! Really digging the music selections too: country (reminded me a bit of Johnny Cash), digiridoo, and some bossa nova-ish stuff. NICE! 😆
One man builder, now that's amazing. I hope everybody here can appreciate how difficult this is because you make it look so EASY.
You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
The amount of talent in this man is astonishing. Looking forward to the next video!
I think the gable dormers and hipped roof would look nice and adding another small building at the end might help the building look more symmetrical.
Love the old jeep and the trailer in your pole barn!!!
Glad to be able to watch these videos. Truly do appreciate all the hard work you put in. 👍
Your roof structure and extending the roof over the milling area looks like giving you covered working space along with the lean-tos for your milled wood. Looking forward to the next episode and thanks for sharing.
Love this!!!! This is something growing in me to build a woodframed house, but in France where i live this is out of the ordinary... Love the modularity of those builds even if this is just a barn/shed in this case. Can't wait to see what's following 😉
Cool project. Looks fun.
You make this look like fun, Great stuff man!
Great ideas and execution of plans.. I really like your last idea with the additional building and sides and the gabel windows. You are so thorough. All the best! Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 👍
I learned some stuff, the music was nice (especially the night-time part) and having the vision explained in first person mode early in the vid was cool. Look forward to more.
the old barn/workshop is looking great!
This is so awesome. I would love to do something like this someday.
Awesome! Buildings at both ends - why not?? Can't wait to see the mill in action and what a great plac for it to call home.
Love it. Definitely like the idea of double workshops on each end.
I'm so excited for this new project! Well, any homemade home project for that matter XD
I'm excited to see which way you take this project. I love the gable dormer idea; of course you know what you need.
Tons of potential with this, loving the progress so far.
Love all of the videos. You are one source of inspiration for me getting into real estate as a retirement plan for myself and my family. Thank you and please keep them coming. Love the content!!
Great work as always!
Great work. Well done!
This is another grand series, always positive and uplifting. I think I even learn something. I do feel about sad seeing him working all alone. Especially working at night is very scary.
Great video! Can't wait to see more
Great work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
Love this series! I consider myself pretty handy and I would love a "ramblin man" video with you explaining how you started off on these projects and the resources you used to expand your skills.
This channel is awesome, really enjoy seeing all the work you do!
Interesting project😊 looking forward to the rest!
I like the simple shed dormer, more of a cabin, barn-like feeling.
Thank you for all the good information!
Great work!
always interesting to watch.
I love watching your videos brother. Those concrete piers came out great too!
Another awesome video. Can’t wait to see your progress. Loved the music at 22 minutes. 👍
Awesome work.
I agree with the others on the 1 Man 👨, 1 Cabin! It amazes me what you get done ✅ being 1 person! Your work is excellent as is the quality as well. Thank you so much for your videos.
I cannot believe that you did that by yourself! Wow!
I am interested to see the solar set up you go with.
i'm soo jealous ;) been trying to get around to building my "tractor shed" off and on for a few years...great plan, luv the wrap around porch idea. I hope it makes the final cut!
I like it… definitely the gable dormer and the wrap around lean-to and I really like the idea of the double workshop
This is great!
Full of ideas , i like it
i love your videos! i am always impressed
Nice. Will there be a water tank and rainwater collecting system as well?
Enjoying this series, and congrats on the sponsoring of your videos.
I love the idea of all sides and dorma put into the build it would be unique and stronger. Very good video love watching you build over the years. Well done my friend . God bless you and your family from Australia. Xx
Man, you're a beast working.
Always inspiratiional!!!
Love this project, Gable's look the best awesome, but also look the most complex
Love the project it’s gonna be awesome! Can’t wIt to see it all done! Keep up the great work!! John 😎👍
Stairs outside, with a landing to sit on, Glass Door upstairs, outside Lifestyle. Bliss
Definitely like the gable dormers and the full u-shaped wrap on the lean-to. Stairs might get in the way of one of the dormers, but it would still be really nice to have windows on all 4 sides. Really liking this project so far! Lots of really cool ideas!
@honmadehome A small mud room would be nice before entering the structure. Hope this helps as an idea bro.
Unbelievable that you do all of this by yourself!
I like the idea of the gable dormer and the wrap around lean-tos with them running the length of the side of the structure.
I'm wanting to do this thank you so much for the video
I can't remember if snow is an issue there, but ...the pitch of the lean to might prove super important for snow, especially when it slides off the main building roof onto the lean to. You don't want to have to be shovelling snow - I've seen that mistake and he is having to re-roof his lean to. I like the wrap-around idea.
Exciting plans. I vote for the hip roof style porch lean-to all around 3 sides. That gives you some much usable space for stacking wood, parking tractors, lawnmowers, projects of all kinds!
Amazing what what one can accomplish with a can do attitude !
Good job!
Enjoyed from Texas!
