Hey y'all, Justin and Lilly here,
to those who are new, and those who have been watching us build for a while, thanks for joining us! Support our build and engage with us by leaving comments, hitting like on our videos, and Subscribing to our channel!
We are building our dream house from the ground up. Justin is the engineer and works hard to make sure the measurements are perfect. Lil, as the perfect woman, inspires Justin's entire existence. This week we see if she can hack it as a Carpenter.
The house will be 28' x 54' which comes in at just over 1500 square feet of floor space. There will be three bedrooms and two baths.
Summer is just around the corner and it's starting to get hot!
In last week's video, we raised our first wall which was a huge milestone for our off grid house build
The build is moving faster now that we got the hang of the framing, and we work really well together as a team. We get moving on the kids bedroom Walls and Lil takes on the framing while Justin builds the headers for the doors and windows. The Dewalt nailgun decides to behave and we make a ton of progress! As usual, the kids are having a blast while we build, and the little one always wants to help with every step!

Thanks for joining us for the ride 😎
Good luck building your home 🏠
House is coming together looking good
Thanks! ☺️
You two work really well together. I wished I lived closer to you I would give you a hand for free. I'm 72 and have spent most of my life building. As a matter of fact at 70 i had one knee replaced and was back building a barn 28 days latter a month later they were able to get me in and do the other knee and was back on another build 30 days later. At one time I had 20 men working for me.
God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
Thanks for joining us! 😊
It's starting to take shape! Are you guys excited? Let's move on!

Such a pleasure watching your videos, you both are doing so well and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Best wishes to you and your family from England.

I just love the walls flying up❤
Very exciting 😀
Quite something that you guys are doing all this while raising several kids. We're sure it isn't easy, but they'll remember these days for the rest of their lives. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for joining us! It's definitely not easy, but we are blessed to be able to tackle this build together as a family 💙
I got to be the first like this week. You two work well together.

You need to angle brace the corners before framing interior walls. That will true your walls

Great job you guys! Love seeing the family all working together getting things done!
So now that you have the exterior walls all up and you're working on interior ones, does the house feel larger or smaller than you thought it was going to?
Thanks Adam! I think it's back to feeling small 😆 but wait till we get to the 10 ft ceilings in the living room!
Saya sangat semangat menikmati perkembangannya...
good job🫰❤️
Thanks for joining! 😊
Always look forward to your videos. I think the regular cadence will fuel your channel growth. Awesome choice of drone shot angles.
Thanks Slawek! Hope y'all are doing well!
Hey guys, thanks for this week's update, great to see the progress your family is making, will be a house in no time! It was a wise choice to agree with Lil as manager :D Have you got as far as decisions around siding etc yet, or are you waiting to decide once the house is up and you can get a better feel for things? Stay safe folks!
Hey there Paul, thanks for joining us this week! We are thinking hardi plank siding, but open to changing things as we go. Any recommendations?
@@DIY_or_DIE Hardi will give you plenty of options in terms of colour etc as a feature. I think you really need to see the house built and in it's setting properly to make a definite choice though, as what seems like a great idea initially may not look the best in reality. I vote for what Lil chooses 🤣🤣🤣
I do all I can with the wall laying down on the deck sheathing, siding, windows even gable ends and stand the walls up with wall jacks .
Never heard of wall Jacks before, but I just looked them up and they look pretty nifty! If we ever build another house, I might go that route.
Plum is plum wherther top or bottom. Love seeing bthe kids working. They are so fast lol
Yes they are!
You’ve missed a few things in the framing. I mentioned it before but people have to work it out later I suppose. 🙂
Hi there, we appreciate tips from everyone with experience, even if we don't choose to use them. Feel free to say "told-you-so" later on if we have issues with the trim 😉
@@DIY_or_DIEI promise I won’t be too hard on you. 😊 I’ve built a lot of houses (including my own), shops, barns, etc. I did a lot of things I wished I wouldn’t have. Harder to change afterwards. You will discover the same. I criticize but only to help. Not hurt 😁
do you think they should line the walls as in 'plumb & line'?
The house is coming alive. You'll be putting a roof on before you know it. Hope you have a great week.
Thanks for joining! Have a blessed week 🙏
Looking good! In canada I finally got wamr enough weather to start on my roof shingles. I love framing the most, dislike all indoor finish work though!
Wow! Finally warm enough? How warm is warm enough? 😄
@@DIY_or_DIE for me it's when the ice in the road to cabin is melted So i can drive in. It's went from too cold to too hot now, I'm so dying on the roof doing shingles in the sun!
Hell yeah you guys that's looking really good and that last piece you put in its tighter than Whoopi Goldberg's dreadlocks😂
Haha, nice analogy 🤣 yes, we are really excited about this part!
@@DIY_or_DIE hell yeah I'm excited too and I'm excited for you guys it looks really good
stagger your joints on your top plates , if your going to tie wall into the ones you have just stood you should of already marked them and put T posts in them where they will tie together...other than that looking good :)OOHHHH also you should of laid all your walls out on the nice painted floor you have
Don't worry, we will tie everything together as we go. We are constantly changing things as we go so the locations of the walls are not being finalized until we start building them and can see where they are going.
😃👍👍
Might be easier to fasten the bottom of the brace to the piece to be attached to the floor with one screw before putting it in place. I would go ahead and screw it to the floor first, then use the upper end to plumb it. 😊
Good tip!
Snap a line on the subfloor, life would be much easier, not to mention faster. I know it's just you and your wife, but at this rate, you won't be dried in by winter.
Good luck
Thanks for joining us!
🇳🇴👍👍👌
Is there a reason for not overlapping the top plates?
Yes, we built that wall as a single piece and realized it was too heavy so cut it in half...don't worry, we will fix the top plate...great attention to detail! 😆
Does a hammer come with that nailgun?😊
Haha it should! 🤣
You missed some. "That what she said." You're slipping. Must have been the heat.😅
Haha, that must be it 🤣
Looking good, thanks for sharing. The Bible Jesus Is coming soon. Ron PTL USA
Amen 🙏
5/16 of an inch? Just a gentle friendly reminder, you're still in the 'rough framing' stage, lol
😆
Where are you building? I’m guessing Pa., W.Va., Virginia or Carolinas. Am I close?
Southeast Georgia
Why did u put that second timber on top of the first two sections of wall, when that timber is meant to tie the two sectiopns together?
If you watch our previous videos. we built the wall as a single piece and realized it was too heavy for us to lift, so we had to cut it in half. Don't worry, we will fix it afterwards so they get tied together properly 😊
@@DIY_or_DIE I forgot as I have watched all of your video's 381
Y'all should distribute the weight better when you're lifting those walls. The wife is doing the heavy lifting, you're only lifting the end of it. 😮 1:50
That's because she is the Muscle here 💪 😆
Where are y'all that 4" exterior walls are allowed??
Most places require 6" minimum exterior walls and a min. of R19 insulation.
We are in Southeast Georgia. R-13 is acceptable per IRC.
@@DIY_or_DIE but 2 x 4 walls 16" o.c. are only allowed on single story homes in Georgia.
Aren't you building a second story? Cuz the code says minimum 2 x 6" if it carrying a second story with roof load.
@pamsmith9541 no, we are building single story.
Why do some youtubers play stupid annoying music in their vids? Ruins the whole experience of the vid.
Hi there, thanks for watching!
Mama bear that came out very right 😂
😆
