It always does my heart good to see something beautiful created from something that would normally be thrown away, and this one in particular, because omgoodness!!! What could be more profoundly considered a throw-away material than a massive wad of threads???!😂❤🎉 This gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling!!! ❤🎉😊thank you so much!!!❤❤❤
We’re kindred spirits like that! I love giving new life to things that others might throw in the rubbish. Very best wishes to you and yours this festive season. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
As you were making these, I thought of a pom-pom edge to a piece I'm making. I can't believe I'm going to be using thread bits now. My family is going to think I've lost my mind 😂
I have been a lampworker making glass beads for many years so I completely understand ignoring fingers. These beads are wonderful and I won't get burned. Love your work!❤
Thank you for commenting on Annie’s video, it made it easier for me to find and subscribe to you channel. This is the first time I have subscribed to a channel without watching any videos first but a few minutes into this video and I already can see it was the right decision to subscribe. I work in mental health and I just needed a break from my morning and just watching you work is so inspiring and therapeutic in itself. I can’t wait to watch more of your videos. Whilst watching I thought keyring and sure enough that was the next thing you showed - great minds!! I quite like the idea of a ball or few balls with a tassel on the end but depending on the size of the balls and length of tassels, they could also be nice earrings to match the bracelet. I think I would like to put some balls together to make up a letter as a birthday gift of comfort letter pillow, either a small letter; M for Mary, for a hand squishy stress ball thing or a large one to cuddle on a bad day. Thanks so much for a great video with wonderful ideas, and also some great inspiration in the comments too. Varsha.
I’m so sorry to be a little slow in replying to your comment - I fell a little behind as I read and reply to every comment as community is so important to me. It’s lovely to welcome you to my little home on YT and I’m so happy if my videos can give you some relaxing respite. Slow stitching and crafting is certainly the thing that helps me keep an even keel (mostly). I hope you have a good week ahead and look forward to chatting in the future 💙🧵🪡 cheers, Christine
Hi Christine thank you for a fabulous video, loved loved it! Funny thing have just watched a video on this from a long time ago but yours was much better! Idea from me,how about a giant ort ball ,and pop in a vintage tea cup with pretty doilly on the saucer for a giant pretty pin cushion which you could even add snippets of lace to decorate and tie onto cup handle in a bow...hugs from Gabrielle in the UK xxx
Magic threads. So lovely. All the ideas are very creative. It brings threads that would just be thrown away back to a new life. The ideas are endless. 🧵🧵🧵🧵❤️❤️❤️❤️. Thread love.
This is such a fun idea, Christine!! I love the idea of using them for stitchery journal closures or dangles - that's where my first ones will go. Thank you so much for your wonderful creative ideas and calm teaching manner, I really enjoy your videos.
My favourite ideas are: heart shaped pot holder, pin cushions, garlands, and a bauble to hang down the outside of my nook along with other little bits.
So many wonderful ideas, Christine! Wowzer! Once I get my 366 beads done for my Christmas Tree garland, I'll have to get busy to make all these amazing ideas you shared and others. I am currently working on sewing them on to a wool dryer ball, which makes a wonderfully textured, colorful ball. I also hope to add as trim to my jean jacket that I'm embroidering as well. So glad you put this out to our community. Thank you!
❤❤ Sorry I missed the live. 😮 I'm thinking of doing a multi dangle to hang from my rear view mirror in my car. Love ❤ the idea of using for closure for a slow stitch fabric pouch. 😊😊 Decorative top for my Orb jar 😅. Top and bottom of a bookmarked. 😊😊 Thanks for the ideas ❤😊
The little people idea is sweet. I also like the idea of a hanging decoration, buttons, key chain, a garland, shaped as eggs would be pretty as a spring garland. Maybe use as a bracelet pincushion, glue into a bottle cap and attach to fabric band. Attach to the end a fabric strip or crocheted strip for a bookmark. Yes, to the sweet wreath. Thank you for sharing !!
Possibilities are endless. I want to make dangles for my purse. If you can shove a pencil thru the ball, it would make a fun pencil topper. I imagine them piled in a shadow box as art. You could sew them around the bottom of a lamp shade. Attach a quote or greeting written on ribbon, twill tape or scrap fabric. You could put it in your kid’s lunch box or on a colleague’s desk. Attach a bauble or a dangle to a lamp switch (very boho). Earrings! A tip: when sewing the bauble, first tie a small loop at the end of the thread. After you’ve pulled the thread thru the bauble, pass the needle thru the loop and pull it tight. I’m not a scammer. RUclips put a thumbnail of this video on my home page. The ort ball idea intrigued me. 💜💜💜
Very fun ideas Christine! I think it would be fun to use them as doll heads for tiny dolls, like maybe use old little wooden spools for the body? I just think they would look cool as abstract heads.
I love this! I made some as soon as I saw the video and used a slightly flattened one as a button with a ribbon to close a slow stitched roll/pouch to hold crochet hooks
I would make an entire doll out of them. A bigger one for the head; then some attached maybe in a rectangle shape for the body; then the arms and then the legs. If I wanted, I could stitch some beads as the eyes and mouth. Maybe some hair with the leftover threads too and maybe a scrappy dress. I think I will make one 😊😊😊 Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this, because I have jars full of threads and the only idea I had was to use them layered on a fabric to make covers for fabric books and these are all awesome ideas. I loved the one to make a butterfly 🦋 🩷💙💛🩵🤎🤍💚💜🧡♥️
Wow Christine, they are Amazing i just luv them.. i hadn't saved any yet but I am going to start now, thank you so very much for sharing this and were not throwing any of it away. When i make something i will share back. Your stichery friend ❤❤❤❤ from South Dakota
Hi Christine. I need to make some ort beads. I love the idea of making a butterfly and using the beads for the body. My first thought was making dangles for journals and then you suggested that. Making jewelry is another great idea. Oh there’s just not enough hours in a day for all these things I want to try. But first…the beads. Thanks for the all the great ideas. Big hugs Linda 💕❤️🙂
Very cool idea! I think gluing them into a Christmas tree shape, then framing for a wall hanging would look great. Adding a few to your journal tassels for a bit of an extra pop would be cute. Thanks for sharing!
Now I know what to do with all the threads I've kept. I never knew what to do with them. My favorite idea was to attach one to my keychain so that every time i drove somewhere I would see it and it would remind me of you.
How fun! You have lots of great ideas for using ort baubles. I collect the stray warp and weft threads from my torn fabrics to use as stuffing in my homemade pin cushions. I have made little balls/baubles with the tiny pieces of fabric that I don’t want to bin. Nothing (or very little) goes to waste! ❤ A few more idea for ort or fabric baubles would be to sew one or two to each end of a length of string or twine or thin fabric to use as a bookmark. If you have a lamp with a pull chain, you could put a bauble at the end of the chain. Ort or fabric baubles could be sewn to the top rim or bottom (outside) of a homemade fabric twined bowl or basket or around the edges of fabric placemats. Make them into dangling earrings or “ornaments” that dangle from cabinet or dresser handles or rear view car mirrors. Make a ring to match the earrings, necklace, and bracelet. Sew them onto an elastic headband. Sew them around the neckline or sleeves or bottom hem of a shirt or blouse or skirt or dress or pants. Sew one or three onto each corner of a special tea towel. Fold a length of wire, put it through the center of each bauble, twist the two long ends and make a “flower,” and make a bouquet in a small vintage jar or just attach one to a gift box or a card; felt leaves optional. Attach smaller baubles to a dangle on the spine of a junk journal. Use as a closure on a slow stitched meditation scroll and loop a thin piece of sari over it to keep closed. I think a fun option for a bauble bunting would be to string them so they dangle at different distances/lengths from the main line. Collect them in glass jars to decorate craft room shelves or in ceramic bowls on your desk or coffee table - a great conversation starter!
Wow! So many great ideas to use your ort jar threads. First of all, I like how they are put together. I like the garland idea, making dangles for journals and for decorations on a Christmas tree. Very inspirational!! ❤️😘🤗💕
Very interesting ideas, I would choose the garland as my favorite one and I am thinking of little snowmen ⛄️for my Christmas village. Thank you for sharing 🤗
Oooh, missed the live chat! When I have enough orts, I’ll be using it to string/ cover string for 12 Days of Christmas bunting and to hang Christmas decors. I would use it to hang the doilies ( from your Christmas tutorial). Definitely, will tie several on the end of a small fishing rod for the cats to reach & play. Thank you Christine for a great tutorial as always! Tess
I've made a couple of these beads and stitching on tiny beads and dangle them from a journal as an extra embellishment glad to have more ideas to use I love the idea of little worry beads on a lace bag thanks for the tute and the ideas best wishes
Hi Christne I thought of home style ideas, wall hanging, decorate a lampshade, beaded curtain for your door, window decoration. I think you have started a trend! Carry on sharing your beautiful and interesting crafts with us. Thank you Mandy
Great ideas. I have a glass jug with orts. I just collected them, not knowing what to use them for. Now i have many ideas. Fx for the end on the string on a drawstring bag.
O.M.Gsh! Who would have thought of saving the bit ends of threads and things. Wish I would have known this decades ago. Love the video, your orts and your inspiration. Another fun project to save and collect for. Orts....😃 I will probably use them in my mixed media pieces or include them in some sort of brooch.
I’d like to use 3 beads with a ribbon of leather or suede caterpillared 〰️with the beads in the dips to make earring dangles or tassel dangle for necklace.
Thank you Christine - very inspirational. I see myself using these to embellish buntings and making garlands. I keep a seasonal tree decorated year round - not just for Christmas so my mind is thinking of how to stitch these into seasonal shapes ie shamrocks, poppies, butterfly, flowers, grape clusters,, ….
I love making Ort balls in the evening as i relax with my feet up! I have quite a collection now in different sizes. I use them as little pom poms in wall hangings and also dangles on twine wraps for journals mainly. To add to the twine ends i actually mould it to both ends and stitch to the twine until it forms into the size i want. Thank you for so many ideas Christine! ❤
Well gheesh some where in this thread is my comment. Don't try to find it, in short LOVE this. I am new to this slow stitch fabric crafting and am enjoying it so much ❤
Thank you for sharing this tutorial with all the wonderful suggestions for using these cute little baubles ❤ I was thinking they might make a handy ring-style or wrist pincushion. When you mentioned worry beads I laughed, because all my pockets hold things to fidget with 😂. Will definitely be giving this a try.
Thanks,Christine!! I love all your ideas but being obsessed with pincushion I think this is the most wonderful! And I will definetly use these beads as worry beads...much needed from me😅I'll save even the smallest piece of thread! Ciao❤😂
I have a couple strings and jars of ort beads just hanging out waiting for ideas on how to be used! I love the paper clip bookmark idea and already have jumbo paper clips in a variety of bright colors. I also think a column of ort beads could be hung on the rear view mirror in a car and dabbed with essential oil to add scent to your ride. Thanks for the demo and inspiration! ❤
I missed the part about not stabbing yourself. I have jabbed my finger a few times so far. Gives new meaning the "blood, sweat and tears" when we create!
I really love these beads! But for someone like me that doesn’t have a huge stash of orts maybe I’d try using dryer lint for the centers and then I could stretch what orts I do have - just an idea that sparked as you were working
Congratulations Candice - I have just drawn your name for the slow stitch giveaway I ran to celebrate 3000 subscribers. Please send me an email at (email now removed by me) and we can discuss what you would like included in your bespoke slow stitch package. Cheers, Christine
When i first looked at the thumbnail of this video without reading the title, I thought you had chocolate truffles there, my mouth was watering 🤣 Oh Christine this is such a fabulous idea ! I have a few orts , i can decorate anything with them . Thanks for sharing your awesome ideas ❤
Great ideas especially for jewellery. I save cotton orts separate to wool orts. I am interested to try with the wool ones which could be further felted.
So many great ideas. I have an ort jar but I don't have enough to make a whole lot yet. One idea I was thinking of was making a few balls and string them together to make a scissor fob.
This is a fabulous and creative idea for repurposing these waste threads (aka orts). I have to admit as a newbie to the world of slow-stitching, I've had a tendency to throw them away because I couldn't think of a use, but now I've put a kilner jar in my craft room and from now on they'll be kept. I love the idea of making thread beads and there are so many possibilities for them - so thank you very much for the inspiration :)
Ok i finally got a few minutes to try this. It takes a bit of finess. I love them. I will make more. Maybe they gett better with experience. Thanks again
Great idea for using up orts! I'm going to put drops of essential oils on them, sew them into a dangle of three and hang them for moth deterrents - moths apparently don't like a mixture of smells - so I use Rosemary, Lavender and Mint. This will be a nice upgrade from my little organza bags of cottonwool balls!
(aka Anne) Thank you Christine, that was fun as well as inspirational. I have only just started an ort jar so will be a while before I can get to make some balls.

How fun! You have lots of great ideas for using ort baubles. I collect the stray warp and weft threads from my torn fabrics to use as stuffing in my homemade pin cushions. Grazie mille Lucia - enjoy creating 🤗
You could make earrings out of them. Oh my cats would love them
Thanks for sharing your ideas 🧵💙🪡
Thank you for sharing this tutorial with all the wonderful suggestions for using these cute little baubles ❤
I was thinking they might make a handy ring-style or wrist pincushion. When you mentioned worry beads I laughed, because all my pockets hold things to fidget with 😂.
Will definitely be giving this a try.
Thanks Shelia - great ideas! Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
These are adorable! I need to see if it will work with my tiny off cuts of acrylic yarns. May not be as cute, but worth a try.
I’m sure they will work great! Have fun! Cheers, Christine
I absolutely love this!
Thank you very much 💙🧵🪡 cheers, Christine
New subscriber as of today. What a wonderful and exciting idea. Thank you!

Awesome idea - I can’t wait to make some of these ❤️
Thanks so much - have fun with these - they are addictive 🤗
I like the wreath idea but I think it would take me years to get enough even though I stitch every day ! 😂
Maybe a small wreath to start 🤗 cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Thankyou Christine! Yet another amazing inspirational video ❤
Thanks so much 💙
Thanks,Christine!! I love all your ideas but being obsessed with pincushion I think this is the most wonderful! And I will definetly use these beads as worry beads...much needed from me😅I'll save even the smallest piece of thread! Ciao❤😂
Thanks for joining the live chat and for sharing your ideas Giusi 💙🧵🪡
Some brilliant ideas, Christine. Thanks for inspiring us all!
Thanks so much Fran 🤗💙🧵🪡
I have a couple strings and jars of ort beads just hanging out waiting for ideas on how to be used! I love the paper clip bookmark idea and already have jumbo paper clips in a variety of bright colors. I also think a column of ort beads could be hung on the rear view mirror in a car and dabbed with essential oil to add scent to your ride. Thanks for the demo and inspiration! ❤
What lovely ideas Marylou 💙🧵🪡 thanks so much for sharing! Cheers, Christine
I missed the part about not stabbing yourself. I have jabbed my finger a few times so far. Gives new meaning the "blood, sweat and tears" when we create!
Oh no! Please take care! Hope you have fun with the ort beads you have made. I’ve just shared a butterfly brooch that uses them. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
I really love these beads! But for someone like me that doesn’t have a huge stash of orts maybe I’d try using dryer lint for the centers and then I could stretch what orts I do have - just an idea that sparked as you were working
Love your reuse idea - it’s great! Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Great ideas, love it😊
Thanks so much Emilia 💙🧵🪡
Christine , the ort’s can be made into a pincushions and put into a vintage container. Thanks you !!! 🪡🧵♥️
Thanks for sharing your great ideas 💙🧵🪡
They could be strung together across the top of a bed headboard, or hung as part of a dreamcatcher.
Wonderful ideas Linda! 💙🧵🪡
Thanks for the ideas. I’ve been wanting to learn how to do this for a while.
So happy you enjoyed this one 🤗💙🧵🪡
They could covered in resin to make a hard ball for jewelry or buttons.
Thanks so much Eileen - great idea 🤗
such great ideas to reduce my ort jars! Can’t wait to get started.

Great ideas 🎉
Thank you 💙🧵🪡
I started saving my orts a few months ago. I like the idea of using them to make a Christmas tree garland or to decorate a wreath.
Thanks for sharing your ideas Candice 💙🧵🪡

When i first looked at the thumbnail of this video without reading the title, I thought you had chocolate truffles there, my mouth was watering 🤣 Oh Christine this is such a fabulous idea ! I have a few orts , i can decorate anything with them . Thanks for sharing your awesome ideas ❤
Hahaha! Loved your comment my friend! Have fun with the ort balls 🤗
Thank you for sharing such great ideas to use these little gems. Buttons are so useful everywhere, and I think I might try to make a chakra dangle.
Thanks for joining the live chat Martha and for your very cool ideas 💙🧵🪡

Great ideas especially for jewellery. I save cotton orts separate to wool orts. I am interested to try with the wool ones which could be further felted.
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas too! Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Hello everyone - from a very chilly UK!
Glad you made it into the live chat last night - it was great having you there 💙🧵🪡
So many great ideas. I have an ort jar but I don't have enough to make a whole lot yet. One idea I was thinking of was making a few balls and string them together to make a scissor fob.
Wonderful idea Carrie - I’m sure you’ll have plenty of orts in no time 🤗 cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
My pleasure and thank you for watching and commenting 💙🧵🪡
Love the garland idea! Or you could make Christmas baubles too!
Thanks for sharing your great ideas 💙🧵🪡 cheers, Christine
Ok i finally got a few minutes to try this. It takes a bit of finess. I love them. I will make more. Maybe they gett better with experience. Thanks again
I’m sure you will do great with these - just keep stitching into them until they are your desired firmness 🤗
Wonderful idea Angela 🤗
(aka Anne) Thank you Christine, that was fun as well as inspirational. I have only just started an ort jar so will be a while before I can get to make some balls.
Thanks for joining the live chat Anne and for your ideas 🤗💙🪡🧵 cheers, Christine
