The problem in trying to speed something up like the results from meditation is that even if you can achieve states quickly, meditation is not only about the state. The brain changes that you produce from meditation come from long periods of time and consistency. Your entire body also has a nervous system with brain cells running throughout that is involved in meditation. Meditation is not only about brain waves/breathing/etc. The brain scans and stuff will help, but at the end of the day if someone wants to improve they need consistency and training over a period of time to get the real levels of results.

There's also the matter of insight and wisdom. These are massive perceptual shifts that evolve in cycles (POI) as the mind goes through these levels of concentration and begins to see the 3 characteristics. It requires a lot of time to digest and integrate, otherwise becoming overwhelmed like a bad psychedelic trip. And we can't forget about Kundalini which is extremely intense and needs time for recovery, especially through the intense low that follows (Dark Night). I agree this is NOT a process that should be rushed. People should go at whatever pace is necessary to reground themselves and integrate these experiences.

@bike4aday i agree! I had an experience with accidental kundalini while trying to force euphoria during meditation after about the first 20 or 30 sessions. It was one of the scariest yet most pleasurable experiences of my life. Incredibly powerful. Then left me in a state of anxiety for almost a week afterward and definitely dislodged some old trauma that i had to learn how to handle again. The anxiety was stuck right in my chest and majorly effected my sleep. Had trouble diserning sleep from meditation for awhile.
Years later, I didnt let it stop me and have dealt with so much old crap I had pushed away that now meditations usally involve a quick release of emotion from that day, then slide into weightless nothingness. The hour flies by in what feels like 5 minutes. I am a different person now

I've been using the Muse for almost two weeks. I have some former meditation experience (vipasana and Zen), but I haven't meditated in years. I experienced some mild cognitive decline over the years and it was a struggle to get 33 percent calm, starting out. After adding nootropics like Lion's Mane and Gotu Kola to increase neuroplasticity, lecithin to feed the increasing demands for acetylcholine, and taking Noopept before meditating, I'm able to get over 70 percent calm without much trouble, meditating for 10-20 minutes several times a day.
It's also translated over to my practice of meditation without using the Muse headband.
All in all, since I started meditating again, my sleep has improved and my tendencies toward rumination have mostly disappeared. I'm also far less cranky and have had energy and motivation to make changes in my life (I guess I had mild depression, in response to national events in the past few years and just feeling disconnected and finding old ways of coping spiritually to be dissatisfactory)

That's really awesome Magnulus76. I like Lion's Mane too, I should make a video about it. I need to check out Gotu Kola. Thanks for sharing your progress.

Reading it now. Loving the understanding garnered on the graduation from states to traits through repetition.

What you said about default mode network is very relateable. I'm probably around 500 hrs. It's like I can separate soul from brain now and I'm a completely different person in terms of compassion for others, although I don't put up with nearly as much crap. While I'm less willing to accept toxic behavior, I don't get mad at it or judge anymore. Completely different from tbe old egotystical me 10yrs ago

Head injury with post concussion syndrome from an accident 20 months ago, been practicing meditation now for almost 2 years, only last week did I find how it works. While about to go into a panic attack I found that my brain went into a thoughtless state by itself which immediately stopped the panic attack. Pretty amazing stuff. Just got the Muse 2 the other day, that’s going to fun to master.

Hi Cody! Love ALL of your videos and appreciate the passion. It helps us so much how articulate, precise and empathetic you are to us (your students) in your videos! I have a sticking point possibly many of us are experiencing. I have meditated off and on but am probably below or just at 1000hrs. You led me to the Muse 2 a week ago and I love it. I can maintain 97-99% calm to 45mins. To progress using the technology you recommended using the Mind Monitor App. So where Im confused is how to read the Mind Monitor App. I'm noodling around the internet but can't find a tutorial on which settings to use, what each of the settings does or generates, how to generate a report, and how to read these reports. So for example, I'm familiar with the different wave patterns (Beginner: high Beta; 2. Intermediate: lower Beta, increased Alpha; Advanced: Intermediate plus added Theta and Delta; Master: Advanced plus added Gamma and increased Beta). Anyway, I'm probably at intermediate). What I (we) could use help with and possibly many others is how to use Mind Monitor to interpret our specific waves (volts, decibels, dropbox, absolute brain waves, etc....). Is there a technical video out there on how to use Mind Monitor to generate and read our own reports? Most of the content I'm finding assumes you know to use and generate reports and read them.

I told a drawing class once that I could snap into "flow" at will and since it’s such an anecdotal and subjective thing I couldn’t help but think people doubted me. Now I know it’s been measured in others. I don't know how many hours I've had with quality meditation, but I won't doubt that the altered states of alcohol, asthma stress, cannabis and general maverick curiosity accelerated my practice when I was younger.

At about 6:48-7 min you explain that changes in pain tolerance and you said they (meditators) can decouple their upper motor neurons from lower motor neurons... did you mean sensory? a Grip ton of info... WELL DONE.

I foresee a day, not too far in the future, when everyone can become the equivalent of great meditation masters with far less effort. In fact, that may be the only way we are going to get through this century as a civilization lol

Not meditating is like making an origami couch out of 1,000,000,000 dollars, why not take that money you was going to glue together and buy a 1,000 times better couch, a new house, new paper, a new car, an entire glue company, and 1,000 other thing? Or you can just be a complete idiot and waste that money on the worlds largest origami couch which would work better with ''real paper'' anyway.
