the drummer, Rick Allen, lost his left arm in a horrific car crash in the mid 80's; the band could have replaced him, but they refused...they waited until he developed a new kit and new style with one arm and using his feet for the left arm parts; great band and great friends to each other!
Interesting thing is Rick doesn't play the drums on this album or the previous album. He does actually play the cymbals. Both albums are programed on early drum machines and sequencers. I think they use a Fairlight CMI, Linn Drum LMI, Oberheim DMX and an Akai S-900 Sampler and on stage he uses Simmons Electric Kit. The Reason is the producer Mutt Lange, was looking for the most commercial sound and, at the time in the late '80s, the synth drums were about the most commercial thing you can put on a record. Def Leppard is really a pop band.
I was an average so-so fan of these guys as a teen...then my respect shot up when the Rick Allen thing happened and they said we'll wait for him hes our drummer this is our band...good video gentlemen. Best wishes to you all
This was 1 of my fav bands as a kid. And I'll always respect them for putting everything on hold at the height of their popularity so that their drummer could re-learn to play all of their songs with 1 arm after he had a bad car accident & had to have the other arm amputated.
I couldn't agree more! Also, the fact that they are doing tours right now says what music really meant and means not only to them, but also all of us who have been fans and who will become new ones. Lastly, Fantastic reaction fellas. Stay Blessed!
@@archashencmaa9937I saw them live in Glasgow a few years ago on a double bill with Whitesnake and both bands were still awesome. As for Rick Allen, he did an amazing drum solo. @@heather6668 Saw them then too. It was one of Status Quo's drummers who was a stand in for the show's in '86 when Rick was getting back into the swing of things.
After the car crash took his arm, Rick Allen came back to the studio where the band had been recording. Nobody ever talked about replacing him or what they were going to do. They were just happy he was back and he'd just go into a room by himself....and spent his days figuring out how he could drum with one arm - setting up to drum with his feet, and practicing day after day. The band admits now, they were just happy he was doing something, but in the back of their minds of course he could never do what he once did. One day he called them into the room and proceeded to play one of their hits in it's entirety on his new setup using his feet. By the end all of them were in tears.

Pour some sugar on 1987! That year was peak hair band. 1987 was the year "Livin' on a Prayer" dropped, along with "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" by Aerosmith and "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake. It's also the year that Belinda Carlisle, lead singer of The Go-Go's, dropped "Heaven Is a Place on Earth", more or less "Livin' on a Prayer" with different lyrics. 1987 was also the year that Guns N' Roses released Appetite for Destruction, heralding the harder sounds that followed in the nineties. Def Leppard dropped their debut album in 1980. It caught on the with the metal kids. "Wasted" was the choice banger from it, iirc. Their second album dropped in 1981. "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" was the hit, "High 'n' Dry (Saturday Night)" was the banger. They dropped their third album, Pyromania, in 1983 and it was a huge success, with four singles -- "Photograph", "Rock of Ages", "Foolin'", and "Too Late for Love" -- getting heavy rotation on FM rock stations. "Photograph" was the pop hit, "Foolin'" was the banger. That album was part of the soundtrack when I was in high school. I can still smell the hairspray. Heh. Def Leppard's drummer lost his arm the following year. "Pour Some Sugar on Me" kicked off their next album, by which point they were superstars. The song thrived in strip clubs in the nineties.

This might be the best 1980's Metal Song that I've ever heard. Def Leppard was one of my favourite Rock/Metal bands around 35-40 yrs ago. I also like Every Rose Has Its Thorn around the same time in 1988 by Poison.
Rick Allen is their drummer. He lost his arm in a really bad car wreck. And they flat out said that they would not replace him. He had to relearn how to play the drums with a special drum kit designed especially for him. Rick Allen is awesome as hell!!!!💯🎶
I am in this video. I saw them when they opened for Billy Squier and I saw them on their first tour after Rick Allen (the drummer) lost his arm. This video was fimed in Philly.
When I tell you that the hysteria in the round tour, which is what this is from was one of the best tours ever not just the 80s. So much fun we used to have so much fun at concerts times have changed lol.
When this song came out, I fell in love with the drums. So....funky? And then I learned (I was a kid when it happened) that the drummer had ONE ARM? Are you kidding me?? With all those drums? Super respect for the band. Saw them about 4 years ago, and they still rock hard in concert.
Watch the biography about Def Leppard. Rick was only 15 yrs old when he signed with Def Leppard. The band, Allen, his parents and the bands lawyer signed the contract in Allen's kitchen in 1963 with the promise he would finish his studies....which never happened. The band made it pretty quick.
It was so great to be alive when these kick azz songs came out. Got to be in high school from 74-78, and living my 20's in the 80's. Thank you for keeping us smiling.

This song is usually the last song they play before the encore. I've seen Def Leppard about 24-26x and the vast majority of their shows are ended with Photograph (usually preceded by Rock of Ages), which was their big breakthrough song in 1983. I think only twice in my memory did they end with a different song;
The drummer is the brother of another band member-I don’t remember which. Anyway, the drummer was in a bad car accident and lost his left arm. The band waited for him to recover & re-learn how to play the drums with only 1 arm. I must say he more than rose to the challenge. The 70’s and 80’s music was the music I grew up listening to. Listening to radio stations for them to play that favorite song, I mean, it was WAY different. 8 tracks, cassette players, vinyl records-that was it. And concert tickets-an expensive show ticket for us at that age was $20-$24 bucks. But those bands, in person, rocked it out! Great memories..
I was at this show. It was the old McNichols Arena in Denver. The video was shot after the regular set was over. They took a break then came back out and shot this.
Enjoy your reactions . Deep Purple was one the great rock bands from the 60s and 70s they're live version of Lazy I believe it was 1970 or 72 was great combining jazz blues and rock with guitar riffs organ and drums Solos you will not be disappointed
This was filmed in Denver Colorado the dvd is called in the round and in your face! I was in the crowd, and it was one of the best shows ever! was Ricks first show back after recovering for losing his arm and learning how to drum with his feet!!
Produced by Mutt Lange. Written by him, Joe Elliott, Phil Collen, Rick Savage and the late Steve Clark, RIP. Written by accident! 🤯 And it was the last song recorded. Def Leppard are also fans of Queen and wanted a song like We Will Rock You. Here it is! 🤯 Mutt Lange already had hit songs from Huey Lewis, AC/DC, Foreigner, Thomas Dolby and Loverboy. Mutt Lange was supposed to work on the Hysteria album in 1984 but was already booked with The Cars 🚗. And yes 👍, The Cars 🚗 had a hit album then! 🤯 This song. 80s classic. The chorus with the guitar solo influenced the bridge of Everything I Do I Do It for You, written 4 years later. 🤯 Richard Marx wrote sings for himself, Vixen, Backstreet Boys, with Keith Urban and with or for other musicians. Suggested songs 🎵 1 Bryan Adams sings Everything I Do I Do It for You. 2 Def Leppard performs Animal. 🐆 🐆 🐆 🐆 🐆
Saw them live during this tour it was a great show. In the round in your face tour stage was dead center and they played on all side of the stage, not a bad seat in the house. They had a lot of great songs a lot better than sugar but it caught on.
I saw them in concert last year in June for my 60th birthday and it was fire! I think they did end their set with it. It was Stadium Concert Tour. They were with Joan Jett and Poison, Motley Crew and Def Leppard. It was Fire and Joe Elliott (lead singer) sounded the same!!
Love Bites was from this album and it was an ICONIC love song from the 80's. As an 80's kid we all remember sloooow dancing at dances to this and the school aides walking around moving hands off of places they should not have been. lol
I would RANK this band in the TOP # 5 of all the England bands ? They are still touring & making albums to this day ? All - time sales , they may be NO # 4 or up words ?
I was actually very lucky enough to be at McNichols arena in Denver Colorado when this video was filmed. The crowd was easily sixty-five to seventy percent female and it was an amazing time that will be a memory that lasts forever!
I was at this show. It was McNichols Arena in Denver. They played their whole set then took a break while setting up to shoot the video. Band came back out and played the song again and shot this video.
Def Leppard's Drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident in the mid 80s when he drove his sportscar off the rod and flipped it into a field after their Pyromania tour. He had his arm for a few days afterward but it required amputation to prevent infection from killing him. This was the first album after he lost arm and even thoguh it took a few months to recover and re-learn how to play he hasn't missed a beat and the band waited on his recovrery before recording the Hysteria album. He has a sepcially designed drum kit which utilizes his feet more than his hands, but it's become a trademark of him and the band. People love him more for it.
Man I was 17 when this album dropped the entire album is good and this is the kinda song that gets you on your feet and the tour from this album was phenomenal!!💯🤟
9:18 The song was built collaboratively around that hook you’re hearing… Love is like a bomb, baby come on get it on… It came from the first words and it hit the stadium roofs with pure adrenaline.
I'd forgotten about this song. I love rock! I got a bf about the time this came out. He was a keyboard player in a famous dude's band. They're country so i switched to country for a few years. I prefer Rock! Great reaction guys.
“Hysteria” or “ Foolin’” are two more great banger songs from Def Leppard. They’ve got a huge catalogue of great tunes and a big rabbit hole to go down. Enjoy the journey!
At the height of this song popularity, the band was selling 500,000 copies of the album hysteria per day

I just think we had the best times in the 80's...happy, happy, happy.
Loved going to their concerts.
Seen them last year .Still rocking. They sound great amazing concert.
Concerts in the 80’s were incredible! I saw this show!
THAT IS IT .... first reaction when I seen All 3 of you smiling and bouncing 😅 DEF LEPPARD congrats 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
I saw them in concert with KISS in Washington State. Great Concert!
Def Leppard all the way from Sheffield 🇬🇧
Love this!! Brings back super good Memories! ❤❤❤
Def Leppard are legends. Thanks for reacting to them.
This is from their American concert in Denver, Co in 1988. Steve Clarke was a great guitarist!
I would give anything to go back in time and attend this concert.😂
I was at this show. It was the old McNichols Arena in Denver. The video was shot after the regular set was over. They took a break then came back out and shot this.
Enjoy your reactions . Deep Purple was one the great rock bands from the 60s and 70s they're live version of Lazy I believe it was 1970 or 72 was great combining jazz blues and rock with guitar riffs organ and drums Solos you will not be disappointed
My first ever hard rock concert was this very tour! I was 13!
This was filmed in Denver Colorado the dvd is called in the round and in your face! I was in the crowd, and it was one of the best shows ever! was Ricks first show back after recovering for losing his arm and learning how to drum with his feet!!
Had to bring my boombox to school to listen to this at lunch with my firends.
No bad song!! Lloooove alll of them!!!
This is my all time favorite band loved the reaction please react to their song, Rock of Ages.
Here it is! 🤯
Mutt Lange already had hit songs from Huey Lewis, AC/DC, Foreigner, Thomas Dolby and Loverboy. Mutt Lange was supposed to work on the Hysteria album in 1984 but was already booked with The Cars 🚗. And yes 👍, The Cars 🚗 had a hit album then! 🤯
This song. 80s classic. The chorus with the guitar solo influenced the bridge of Everything I Do I Do It for You, written 4 years later. 🤯
Richard Marx wrote sings for himself, Vixen, Backstreet Boys, with Keith Urban and with or for other musicians.
I saw this tour in Atlanta. Twice. Loved it
One of the best concerts I ever went to! In The Round was a kick ass show!
T-shirt band is a great description! Love me some 80s arena rock!!
As an 80's kid we all remember sloooow dancing at dances to this and the school aides walking around moving hands off of places they should not have been. lol
still an amazing song
Is a great song. My 2 sisters and brother almost died coming home from that concert in the superfine I was married in Houston We all still love it
Superdome
Give up Superdome
It is beyond cool to see you react to the music I grew up with!
oh man i love seeing Rick Allan drumming with this band, such an awesome story them taking him back in after his car accident and losing an arm
Def Leppard was my first concert in 87 on this tour, a kick azz band named TESLA opened up!
Man I was 17 when this album dropped the entire album is good and this is the kinda song that gets you on your feet and the tour from this album was phenomenal!!💯🤟
9:18 The song was built collaboratively around that hook you’re hearing… Love is like a bomb, baby come on get it on…
It came from the first words and it hit the stadium roofs with pure adrenaline.
I have to say, I could listen to you guys talk about anything. Not just music. You’re so entertaining.
