  • The Onc. Sharry Baby is a wonderful orchid with wonderfly fragrant blooms. Some folks smell chocolate, others smell vanilla, some even smell cookie batter. In short, she’s a wonderful easy to grow orchid. There are many types of Sharry Baby orchids out there. They do have some differences in fragrance, size, and bloom density to keep in mind.
    In today’s video I’m going to show you the differences between a few of the common ones in my collection. I’ve found that some are more fragrant and floriferous than others. Let me know down in the comments below which Sharry Baby is your favorite.

    Hi Nicole,
    Great video. I ordered a Sharry Baby Raspberry Chocolate from a nursery, and when I unboxed it, It was /is so large! She had three spikes on her so she was quite beautiful and had a wonderful chocolate sent.
    It was totally root bound in a little pot with some moss. I repotted her into Bark and coco husks . We will see how she grows

    I have Onc. sharryBaby ‘Red Fantasy’. It’s in spike right now. Smells wonderful, but it sure is a (happy) grower. I divided it and I noticed the plant is a Hugh root producer. I also have Oncidium Tsukuba Margueale. Much smaller, but still a heavy root producer. She has 4 spikes right now, but no flowers yet. To me it smells like cotton candy. 🍭Thanks for a great video.🤗👏🦋

    Thx for such an informative video! I've been debating about which to get for awhile now, but am dismayed that there aren't any sold locally here. Would love to try any of them, especially Rasp Choco or Sweet Fragrance! Do you typically separate new bulbs yearly? I've also heard Tsiku Marguerite is a nice alternative which smells similarly?

    What's your favorite medium for these? I think I've been unddrwatering mine (once a week) after a bout with root rot last year, it's growing new roots super slowly and not growing new growths.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  3 года назад

      They do very well in moss for me. They also adapt well to leca / semi hydro. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these. The worst thing I've ever put them in is bark without any other amendment. These like to stay moist, but not sopping wet. The root growth is a good sign and hopefully should push out a new bulb soon.

      I'm sorry to hear they died! I think when they die usually they got overwatered too much. If you try again, try to water them throughly and water again when they are pretty much almost dry. Smaller pots help with this too.

    You're missing the Sharry Baby 'Tricolor' and 'Ruby Doll', have to round out the collection 😉. Heaven Scent 'Redolence' is my favorite of the SB types, I think it has the best fragrance and blooms. Now I bought a plant as Oncidium fuscatum and it turned out to be a Heaven Scent, which wouldn't bother me except I already have it and I don't need two (and thus I ordered a fuscatum from an importer). My AKA Baby hardly has any fragrance, a very disappointing purchase that one.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  3 года назад

      Thank you Michael! I need to find them, and do some digging on those! I learned a lot when I researched the heaven scent and others. I came to the conclusion that the more hybrids are involved, the less fragrant they are, but the larger and waxier the blooms look. I can't wait for redolence to bloom for me, it's the one my cat devoured like it was cat grass 😂
      I'm being responsible and downsizing, it sorry of feels nice to get rid of some of the floofy big types. Ended up taking your advice. I want fragrance, and smaller size 😁 let's see how I replace what I just got gave away lol
