I was watching this video in prep to repot my Sharry Baby. Ive had it several years and it was in desperate need of a repot/division. I only split her in two. But I am switching up my medium a little bit and want to see how she does. I also gave the larger half a bigger pot I had to check which one I had, it is 'Sweet Fragrance.' It is definitely cloying. And I have a terrible headache the first couple days it blooms. Ive moved it throughout my home to try and find a spot its less overwhelming. (Yes, sunny days its more potent) But either way, I enjoy growing it. Mine has just finished one flower spike and has 2 more coming. Happy Growing. Thanks for the video.

next time when you divide, after removing the old media, dunk the roots in a bucket of water for 5 minutes before you pull the plant apart..........it will make it easier..... have a nice day Geoff
"completely rotted" not rotted, just expended. The plant is clearly thirsty. The leaves have very prominent ribs, they should be smooth. What I notice is that the bulbs are getting progressively smaller, which is a sign that the roots aren't great. Hopefully with the repot they will chuck out some new roots and the plant will start looking tip top again.
Expended then rotted?🤷♂️ Re the shrunken pseudobulbs - I'm so paranoid about trying to avoid rotted orchid roots I err on the side of dryness. I'll have a good look round for any more and then give them all a good soak for 24 hours. It worked on my Coelogyne. Although I'm a little worried they won't dry out again for the next 2 months at 12°C! Oh to have some sunshine...🌞
Just a thought but would it have been worth putting cinnamon powder on the damaged sections with the holes? Another option I've heard of is using a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide to water damaged plants as it kills any bacteria etc! I would certainly consider trying the cinnamon myself but I'm no expert! Experimentation is good, especially when you have a few sections to play with!
That’s probably what I should have done. I’ve got both substances in the greenhouse for such an occasion but either forget or think I just can’t be bothered with it! I let the plants tough it out. Both pseudobulbs are firm and the damage looks old and dry. I guess time will tell. At least it’s all on the same little plant.
Excellent video. My sharry baby throws 8 or 9 flower spikes each blooming cycle. But the leaves are accordioned. Thoughts? I flood weekly and soak for about 45 minutes then drain fully. Clay pot. It needs dividing which I will now attempt. Thank you.
Thanks! I bet when you unpot it you’ll find lots of dead rotted roots. While clay pots are good for wicking moisture away, you can’t see what’s going on, so you could be watering it when it’s already moist. Accordion leaves means something isn’t right with watering. Hopefully you’ll discover the truth of it when you divide it. Good luck!
Interesting video Geoff. Great mix and I shall be trying that with my Oncidiums (bit south of you down in Essex). I also killed my Sharry Baby but won’t be getting another as she had such a strong perfume that she made me sneeze all the time 😊.
I bought a Sharri Baby in August 23'. It was in a 3.5" square nursery pot. Desperate need of a repot. I used a 6" terracotta pot. Well its Christmas 23'. And its nearly out grown the pot. Tons of roots coming out the top and coming out the bottom. Its sent up a 36" spike that is almost flowing. My question... should i wait till this spike is done....or do now? There are signs of more spikes on the way ...maybe wait till late spring? Kust not sure what to do? Great video. Thanks
I would only divide it if you feel it’s too big and falling over, or if it’s stopped producing flowers. If either of those are true then you can divide it. It makes sense to enjoy the blooms first. But after that would be a good time - before it starts to produce new growths.

It is inside - in the greenhouse. My house is way too dark unfortunately - not much will take it other than a few shade tolerant Begonias.
