The thing I think some people miss understand about Scott Pilgrim is that Scott and Ramona are supposed to suck. The whole thing is about them learning to stop running and confront their own toxic behaviors before starting over.
yes quite right. AS the saying goes. Learn to love yourself before you can love others.
for SURE. it's this kinda nerdy-but-toxic personality that I think is super common in certain people in like their late teens/early 20s. In the comics they play into this whole thing WAY more - there's probably more slice-of-life, coming to terms with yourself stuff than there is evil ex battles.

I also think that Knives being dumped helped her to grow up. And now she's matured to the point where she doesn't feel like she needs Scott in a romantic way anymore. Giving closure to their relationship helped her to move on, rather than be that creepy weirdo that stalks his friend group for years.

I love that Nega Scott is actually a nice guy cause Scott is a straight up ass the whole movie! Also this movie inspired me to pick up the Bass, it is just way too badass!

The Brie Larson Black Sheep scene is lowkey one of my favorite moments of any movie.

Someone pointed out that the reason Scott and anti-Scott didn't fight was because a reverse of Scott would be an empathetic caring person who really wanted to do right by other people. So of course they just talked it out and became friends.
In the book, Nega-Scott was the physical embodiment of Scott's faults and shortcomings. When he finally accepts that he's not perfect, Scott absorbs Nega-Scott into himself.

Yeah and in the game, if you defeat Nega-Scott as Scott, you get a bad ending. The best ending is always Scott accepting him.
For the record, in the comics, Scott knowing how to fight is common knowledge for everyone. They live in a video game world and they all kinda just accept it. He and Ramona do so many crazy things that no one questions. And that's part of the joke.
Fun fact: it took Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim) at least thirty takes to get the package into the trash bin behind his back without looking

What always makes me chuckle is that despite the joke about Knives being 17, Ellen Wong is actually older than the majority of the cast, including Michael Cera.
My babysitter took me to see MegaMind and this movie back to back at the same theater. It was one the best days of my 8 year old life.

That scene with Scott jumping out the window is my favorite scene in all of cinema. It's just so random but funny
The ending where he ends up with Knives is *not* from the comic book. Wright adapted the script largely based on the first three books (which was all that had been published when the script was written), and an outline of what would happen in the other three books provided by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Wright chose to end the movie with Scott and Knives playing the video game again together, but of course it doesn't work for the reasons you cite -- it's regressive, he shouldn't be dating her. In reshoots, they changed it to the ending it has now, which mirrors the ending of the sixth book because by that point the book had been written.
Plus, Scott and Ramona are both terrible people, especially in the books, so Knives was just too good a person to ever deserve ending up with Scott.
I would have HATED it if he ended up with Knives. Seems to just completely miss the point of the story.

Edgar Wright didn't direct Ant-Man. He was supposed to, but left due to creative differences. Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Down With Love) stepped in.
He did write the original version of the script too. So there's definitely still some of his influence in the script

@@serenitysubs933 I’m not sure what you mean about Hinata. If you’re talking about the Naruto character, that’s Stephanie Sheh. I feel like Amity sounds the closest to Katara, but none of her other voices really do, and they’re *very* different from Roxy.

There's something about Michael Cera where if you are in a movie with him, your career is likely to skyrocket. Almost all the cast in Superbad and Scott Pilgrim absolutely flourished (even moreso then they already were) after starring in those movies.
Ironic since his career has been in decline over the last few years.
Michael Cera should start starring in drama or romcom movies.

So many superheroes in this movie. The second doorman at Gideon's club played Ragman on CW's Arrow. And Ramona plays Huntress in the movie Birds of Prey.
My all time favorite movie. It's such a perfect storm of writing, directing, acting talent, music, and effects. It's incredible on every level. Scott and Ramona are such flawed people, and the supporting cast is just amazing (Wallace and Kim are legendary).
"Scotts vegan" is the best punchline I have seen in a movie. Its so fucking funny.
Honestly can say I’ve seen this movie over 50x or more. Can’t wait to watch this reaction after work
A couple of fun facts:
Edgar Wright sent the main actors to a martial arts boot camp six months before they started filming.
The actress that played Knives is an actual black belt
When the Katayanagi Twins turned up the volume, the number in red is 11 (Reference to Spinal Tap)
The Universal theme has to be played and since they used the 8 bit in the opening, they used it in the Lucas Lee scene.
Note: In the comics, when Roxie is defeated, instead of coins, she bursts into small animals like the Sonic the Hedgehog game.
One of the things that make it great is that feels like you're in on the jokes like you know them. Instant classic.
If anyone feels like it I highly recommend the comic books. It has much more time to develop every character and make the coming of age story for Scott more fleshed out. It helped me accept who I am and move forward. Amazing comics!
What a great reaction! So glad you watched this, it is one of my favourite movies. Chris, I loved you singing along. The comics are even better, I would recommend them. Everybody gets more character development and we learn more about their backgrounds

Brandon Routh was Superman before this. Chris Evans was already Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies before this as well. This movie isn't connected with the Cornetto Trilogy but it is one of my favorite Edgar Wright films. There's the original ending where Scott stays with Knives but late they decided that it was Ramona he was fighting for and so they changed it. If you have the opportunity, the BD has a number of great commentary to listen to.
Loved this movie very underrated so glad it’s getting an anime with the original cast to voice the characters
This was one of my most requested movies for you guys, right alongside *Old* by M. Night Shyamalan. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

IM SO HAPPY YOU REACTED TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!! I saw it in theaters before i went to college and thought it was the best thing ever, then went and immediately bought the soundtrack on CD after. My summer go-to hairstyle was the cute little pigtails Envy had
The movie is suprisingly layered pretty deep. Scott Pilgrim is based on a comic book that takes from the Canadian music scene, especially the indy scene of the 90's. The name Scott Pilgrim is the name of a song by the band plumtree. Kim is based on the drummer from that band. Young Neil is a reversal of Neil Young etc and so forth.
Saw this movie the summer before highschool on a double date with my cousin, my not cousin, and my third grade crush I reconnected with through my cousin. The date ended up being me and my cousin sitting together while her date, my not cousin, was sitting in the other row and my date couldn't make it. Absolutely perfect setup for seeing this movie about dumb relationships. We laughed at the movie then cracked a ton of jokes about how awful the date was.
I am having a crappy Monday morning and this is just what I need.
I've always got to appreciate the specific Toronto references in this movie: I even lived right by a couple of the places they filmed when the movie came out, they show Toronto transit, and even the venues they talk about are classic Toronto music hubs.
I love the ending. I always seen it as him accepting his faults and working to be a better person.
Id love too sit through a read through of the comics with Marketa and Navi! It'd be a great read :)

One of my all time favorite movies. You can watch it a dozen times and still catch new details you missed before.
Bryan Lee O’Malley was still written the series as production was on going, the final book coming out just after the film. Edgar Wright will eventually be recognised as the greatest director ever

Nice, I'm looking forward to this reaction. It's one of the most rewatchable movies to me. Just so damn fun. Wright's visual flair works so well with adapting a graphic novel.

I've watched so many reactions now to this movie, you guys get it. So many other reactors didn't get the jokes, the lessons, or the tongue and cheek, etc. They were focused on giving their commentary rather than truly watching the movie. You guys did great!
My friend saw this movie in highschool. (I'm 31 today) At the time, idk why I wasn't interested, I was an idiot. lol This movie is in my top 5 list.
Easily one of the favorite movies I've seen - that quickly comes to mind - even more now that I learned something I hadn't known. I never consciously picked up on all of the numbering for foreshadowing, and I've seen it so many times, both on my own and numerous random reactions. Always nice to learn something new when you least expect it.

Same here. Also fun fact: the soundtrack was produced by Nigel Godrich, the producer for Radiohead, and the songs were written by Beck. I believe that's why the music sounds so great.

My buddys and I found rhis on Netflix when it first debut and it is honetly one of my favorites. So many quotable moments that we still use to this day!

This movie was perfectly balanced in every way. Right amount of references but not throwing them into your face, but allowing the fans of the games to find them on their own and not shoving it in your face. My favorite scene is Roxy vs Romana cause it was a bad ass nod to Soul Calibur which is one of my favorite fighter games. Also the soundtrack for this movie is top class, very few others can touch on it in my opinion, every Edgar Wright movie does
So many actors & actresses in this movie , when it's out , i didn't know them. There is also the actor who played Superman and Atom in a DC tv serie.
This is one of the best movies ever made. There is more raw creativity in every single minute of this film than in some entire franchises.

That music store they were in was called Sonic Boom on Bloor Street in Toronto, and it was so cool! I found a lot of great artists there.
I listen to this soundtrack like once a week, even got the vinyl… this movie is so dope, I’m glad they are getting a chance to do the anime.
