Trent Stross Yes, This specific internship I’m working in is mainly desk, but that’s not the case for all ChemE’s . In terms of dealing with chemicals a lot, it’s more of a conceptual knowledge thats needed, it truly depends on what project we’re working on. I can’t really speak on the high salary yet since I’m an intern. Hope that was able to help :)

As a chemical engineer you could also work in a lab doing research. Let’s say you get tired working in a lab, you could easily switch your career as a chemical engineer , not sure how easy that would be as a chemist. Chemical Engineering has A lot of math too!

Ben Dover I was working on a project where the company wanted to see which raw materials they used most, so that they could automate it in their batch productions. I just used simple excel data anyalsis tools, to look at averages, maxes, & mins, nothing too major.

I am starting my summer internship in a few weeks but I’m a little worried about the data analysis just wondering what skills you found helpful in terms of applying to the job? I’m feel comfortable with excel but using coding like python is still scary any advice?
Erika Moreno The data analysis I was doing was mainly basis excel descriptive statistics, it wasn’t much coding. Depending on your role/company you probably won’t have to worry about coding, but it doesn’t hurt to learn a little python before your internship. Regardless, since you’re an intern they won’t expect you to know everything

It truly all depends on the company/industry you work in. 40hr weeks, 4 weeks in a month, will get you good estimate of how much you can expect to make in a month.

Yeah, it depends on your school though, some will let you repeat courses again. At that internship I didn’t use any advanced math at all

My advice: Go for it! It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to get the degree, it’s better to do something you actually might have an interest in!
