It's the realness and facts for me 💫 I'm finishing year 2 of 6 of Chem E (not in the US) and it's really hard to find people that actually know the struggle of studying it. But, as a teacher told me once, if you fight to give your all while studying and you don't necessarily get good grades but still you keep trying and fighting to excel yourself then you do know about hard work, and that is worth more than having a perfect GPA without any struggle
I’m in the same year as you! I’m taking a heat & mass transfer course and I have to get ~90% on the final just to pass (like THAT’s gonna happen; I epically failed on both of the midterms). Good luck with your studies bro! 👍🏼
I'm a Chemical Engineering Student! And Graduate in December with Bachelors, and I start Masters in spring. Hang in there, and prepare for the wave of difficulty.
Hey Nathan...I will be applying to CSLB & cal poly Pomona next month, if I get accepted to CSLB in fall 2021, it would be nice to get some advice from you.
Stick with it, you will get there. Find you a studying group or even just one person. I graduate last year in ChemE. I am now doing my master in ChemE and data science because the industry is slowing going there, so I suggest also looking into that and taking some CS classes if you can. If you can start looking into your interest and figure it out, please do because you will realize how broad chemE is and it can be difficult to find a job if you don’t know your interest at all. But stay in there it gets harder as you go, but it is worthy.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the encouragement it means a lot!!! I'm actually learning how to code right now, and I'm finding out that I might have an interest in something related to that, it's been rough trying to find my interest, but I'm making progress each day!

I am in Physics I and I'm doing kinda bad (C+) which discouraged me from becoming an engineer because I thought you had to be good in Physics to be an engineer.
Class of 2020 ChemE grad here. I get it, ChemE is a hard major. In fact, every time I felt overwhelmed, I would remind myself that many people would have been ChemEs if it was an easy major. I convinced myself that it being hard is what makes it special. It tests your drive and how much you are willing to push yourself. And trust me, you will thank yourself later on if you stick to it to the end. Now, as for doing well on the classes, I can assure you that every ChemE has struggled at some point. Go to TA and professor office hours. After all, they are the ones who make the exams and they truly do want to help you. Some of them are assholes but take that as an opportunity to learn how to work with assholes. Make friends in your ChemE class, this might be the best thing you can do. Truly help them out when they need it and they will probably return the favor. Study hard and smart. Ask yourself, are you really studying or are you checking your phone, talking to friends, scrolling through social media etc? The first few classes are partially designed to weed you out. Prove them wrong. It gets better after that. Get a good sleep. You might be thinking that you don’t get good sleep because you have so much to do but it could easily be the other way around. Feel free to reach out if I can help in any way. I will be happy to do so.
I’m taking my 2nd chemistry course as an AerospaceE major and your right abt the a Professor can make or break it. Cause my 1st chem class i took last semester I got a B+ and this semester it’s just like im looking at a D or C which is not ok! Definitely ruined my GPA. 🙄 Also thanks for the last words of encouragement. I spoke to my counselor and she said the same about getting a D or failing a class. It’s not the end of the world. @@AlsworthTV hey man , does Chemical engineering differ from Chemical and Biomolecular engineering? Do they offer the same type of jobs, and will I still be able to work in oil and gas business if I decide to take Chemical and biomolecular eng?

That Quora link kind of explains the difference between chemEng and chemical and biomolecular engineering. The two are essentially the same thing, but chem & biomolecular engineering has more of a focus on biological, biochemical, and biomolecular systems and processes. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to still break into the oil/gas industry that being said. Hope that was able to help a little !
Bro in my first Materials and Energy balances class my final was worth 45% of my grade and it was basically a make or break situation for me and I ended up getting like a 67%. But the freakin' class average for the final was a 52% and most of the students like me were failing the class so our teacher was gracious and curved our final grades. I walked away with a B-. Then for the second class, COVID hit and everything went online. After that the class was easy to cheese haha! However, I still ended up failing my materials science class with a D so yeah. This major is pretty tough. I feel you man!
Oh wow, no partial credit in mass balance? that’s horrible. I’m currently in my 3rd year. As far as i’m concerned, thermodynamics 1&2 are no doubt the hardest classes you will take (heard some rumors about PChem being hard too). It is as if every professor that teaches thermo is unable to translate and help students understand it, or doesn’t even do much examples either. Fluids is rough too but not as bad as thermo. As far as my grades I tend to make mostly A’s and a couple B’s, but i got a C in my intro to ChemE class, A in mass transfer, and then both D’s in thermo 1 and fluids. I take roughly 30 credits each academic year. ONE BIG tip I can give is make sure you have a uniform notation guide that you follow and utilize among all your courses because different subjects/courses may use different symbols for the same thing or it might have a slightly different definition that could screw you over. OH, and knowing how to manipulate those differential equations really helps in understanding material in more complex Chemical Engineering courses and where equations are derived from. Unfortunately, I still struggle with manipulating and deriving expressions from differential equations but it’s definitely a slow buildup to understanding it more.
Yeah, I’ve heard the same thing about thermodynamics, I’m bracing myself for; I take it next semester. If professors struggle explaining it, then that just shows how hard the class is 😭 THANK YOU for the tip!
Even if you are smart Choosing "the right professors" will make a big difference on your GPA. Always check with the students about the professors. They will tell you either it is A or D. GL --> Graduate ChemE

Thanks a lot!! The engineering design course is different at every school, at my school it was basically just a programming class; My advice would be to seek outside sources of information to understand what you're learning, don't just rely on the teacher/what you learn in class. Hope that helps and good luck! 🙌🏾

hi! im a high school student and i just wanted to ask which gpa range is considered good and which considered bad in chem engineering or just engineering in general?
I've found it's easier for most people to get jobs through referrals or personal connections, directly reaching out to recruiters, and even alumni from your school, rather than blindly applying to 100's of random online jobs
I'm having a really difficult time in my Calc I class. Everything is online and most of the lectures are not during class times, they're recordings of lessons by the professor that we are to watch on our own time. I already have one W on my record for a Pre-Calc class in spring 2020 but I retook the course in summer and passed with a B. Its difficult studying online because my living situation doesn't allow me to focus properly when studying/learning. Would dropping with a W from the course this semester and retaking it in winter or spring be better, than getting a C or D this semester? I'm sure I failed my first test so I say C or D because I'm struggling with my situation and balancing school and work during this pandemic . I'm a chemE major as well and transitioned to online learning mid semester in spring for the first time ever. Bottom line is that I've found online class settings to be more difficult than traditional classes, for myself at least P.s : I've done the little genEd classes I need and only require core classes now
Classes like that make it so hard to focus, I can relate to you! Before thinking about dropping the class, I would look at your school’s policy on Withdrawing to see if there’s a limit on how many times you can do that. I don’t think you should give up yet though, it’s still possible that you can salvage at least a B. Search up “Professor Leonard Calc 1 playlist” on RUclips, his videos really helped me out a lot with Calc I. It could be, that your current teacher might not best fit your learning style .
I hope that was able to help a little, online classes are more difficult to focus in. I’ll work on a video to show you some things I did to help me focus
Paul Lamar Calc 1 notes Search that on google he is a blessing. Make sure to read everything on his notes and practice practice practice (at least 5 problems(make sure theyre not similar) from each section, believe me those 5 problem will literally cement each section in your brain and theyll take less than an hour)
Those were my favorites too in high school- and I am currently in my third year of ChemE. Be warned that ChemE is more about chemical processes than direct chemistry, so it's very math and physics heavy. The physics you do does not have the same feel as GenEd physics though. I recommend trying out ChemE for sure.
Nardos Seyfu Liking math is a great start! but remember there is also a little chemistry, and lots of physics/engineering. You should try to look into what the other engineering majors do too, to help your decision
@@nardosseyfu4811 There's a good amount of physics in chemical engineering, but you'll be fine you don't have to be super good at it. Liked your Video :) but I am a bit shocked how "less" classes u had or just dont Took 🤔 I am also studying Bio-, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering in Germany. My Classes in 1st Semester were: Microbiology, Anorganic Chem, Electrical Engineering, Math A (Analysis1 and linear algebra), mechanics 1 2nd : Math B (Analysis II and differential equations), Organic Chem, english, basics of construction and Programming 3rd Semester (hardest one) : Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, fluid process Engineering, Pharmaceutical process Engineering and systsm engineering 4th Semester: mechanical Engineering 1, Chemical Engineering 1, control technology, heat transfering. Finished all, some bad and some good So what are ur thoughts u have the same experience or is it totally diffrent on ur Universitys?
Yeah, it looks like our coursework is a little different. Maybe it’s because you’re studying Bio-chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, which is slightly different. We do however both take the same core courses (Thermo, heat transfer) ours is just more spread out
wtf, I would die if I came to your school. I got a B- in mechanics: statics and it scared the hell out of me, I quit the program in my 4th sem and now looking at a path into ChemE because I love Chemistry. This is hilarious!

But, as a teacher told me once, if you fight to give your all while studying and you don't necessarily get good grades but still you keep trying and fighting to excel yourself then you do know about hard work, and that is worth more than having a perfect GPA without any struggle
Thanks for watching! And that's facts 💯
I wish this was true...I wonder if grad schools think the same smh😢
Love the honesty. You just earned a sub
Rashad Edwards Thanks bro! 🙌🏾
Thank you! I will 🙌🏾
Keep going at it fam, I got my BS in ChE last may and now going for the master!! 🙏🏿
Thanks a lot bro! And good luck with the masters 🙏🏿
watching this after a reaaally hard 3rd semester in chemE, this made me feel better
Keep up the hard work, you got this!
Good shit bro and keep up the grind. I'm a mechanical major myself and always respect ChemE majors.
GeeFK Thanks bro! Appreciate it 💪🏾
Great job man, I just transferred as a junior to a CSU LB as chem e. I’m finally taking on being a student full time again. Best wishes, Nathan.
Nathan Nice man! Good luck, you got this 💪🏾
Hey Nathan...I will be applying to CSLB & cal poly Pomona next month, if I get accepted to CSLB in fall 2021, it would be nice to get some advice from you.
@@Jay_GTR great JJ, always exciting to apply to 4 year schools. Feel free to ask away and I'll do my best to answer. Best wishes commrade

can you pls email me at jaybooking200@gmail.com. Got some questions. Thanks 🙏
The family loves your videos
For me organic chemistry is literally a piece of cake idk
It is way to easy
I agree, I thought it would be way harder than people made it out to be
I dont mind organic its just the mechanisims is a pain in the butt. The rest of organic chem not too bad.
SUBSCRIBED!!!! I LOVE YOUR CONTENT!
THANK YOU!!!!! 🙌🏾
Me as an incoming 2nd year chem e student doing 3~4 classes at once in a quarter based system, bro i feel ya. it gets harder and harder and I havent even taken organic chem yet. at least u got an internship! Hoping for the best for all of us Engineering students cuz oof def need that rn
Don't worry you got this, ochem is trash but watching *the organic chemistry tutor* on youtube saved me! Good luck this school year :)
u too fam
its get better from here! amen..
Jarboe Kronyanh AMEN!!! Forward ever backward NEVER
Thanks man keep up with the videos 💪
Belarmino Massinga Will do! 🙌🏾
very interesting I am starting this year thanks for making this
No problem, best of luck!
thank you for making this video!
i'm starting my second year in a couple of weeks, in my first year i had thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow and engineering design, which are all core subjects so it was very overwhelming for a first year chem eng student, i didn't do very well on them "because of stress/anxiety, unfortunately" which makes me feel stressed to start my second year, i feel like the fact that i messed up on my first year will affect my performance on my second year💔
Dang, that’s such a heavy course load first year. You got this though!! I wish you the best of luck this second year 🙌🏾
Thanku very nice vedio I'm also a student of chemical engineering
MUHAMMAD AWAIS ANWAR 53 Nice bro, thanks!
Thanks a lot bro!
I’m taking my 2nd chemistry course as an AerospaceE major and your right abt the a Professor can make or break it. Cause my 1st chem class i took last semester I got a B+ and this semester it’s just like im looking at a D or C which is not ok! Definitely ruined my GPA. 🙄
Also thanks for the last words of encouragement. I spoke to my counselor and she said the same about getting a D or failing a class. It’s not the end of the world. P.s. it’s also my first ever bad grade. 😒😞
Wow, you’re taking 2 chem classes as an aerospace major?! But welcome to the club!that’s the engineering student struggle 😭
@@AlsworthTV yeah it’s a total of 3 chem classes. Thank u! I’m rooting for u and I wish u the best in ur studies! :)
@@jennj8149 wow that’s a lot of chemistry for aerospace! I wish you the best of luck as well! 🙌🏾
I’m currently a 2nd year ChemE student. I came on here cause even I’m really struggling now, and wanted to see how others were coping.
ChemE is difficult, just know that I and everyone else is struggling as well!
Keep at it, it'll all pay off in the end
Thanks a lot! Will do 🙌🏾
Get ready bro, junior year is a rough one
I'm bracing myself
This scared me so much
No, don't be scared! I promise it's not as bad as my grades make it seem

Mat & Energy balance Mine all time favourite😆❤️ I am also 2nd Yr Chem Engg Student from Pakistan ❤️
I entered chem eng but a naive high school student who thought it would be fun because ‘I love maths and chemistry’ little did I know the shambles I was getting myself into
It’s ok bro, your like the 99% of us that decided to study chemical engineering 😂
@@AlsworthTV hey man , does Chemical engineering differ from Chemical and Biomolecular engineering?
Do they offer the same type of jobs, and will I still be able to work in oil and gas business if I decide to take Chemical and biomolecular eng?
www.quora.com/What-are-the-differences-between-chemical-engineering-and-chemical-and-biomolecular-engineering#:~:text=Biomolecular%20engineering%20is%20essentially%20chemical,and%20biomolecular%20systems%20and%20processes.&text=But%20some%20programs%20haven't,into%20their%20core%20curriculum%20yet.
It's tough, we just can't give up! Thanks for watching!!
Currently in 5th semester, lets see how the journey ends
You got this! The journey will be worth it
Its okay brother. Ure doin gud .. Im chemeng
That is true, makes a huge difference
Facts man
joseph boateng Thanks for watching bro! 🙌🏾

This was a nice video
It is so easy to be an A straight student :)))
I've alyways wanted to be a chemical engineer when I grow up, I have a question is it worth getting a PhD in that field?
Awesome! I would do research regarding persuing a phD. Most people do phD’s if there is a niche part of chemical engineering they are interested in further developing more expertise at
@@AlsworthTV thanks
Damn! It seems like your curriculum is not intense as the one in South Africa 😢 which institution are/were studying?
I failed on my material Balance class too 😫😂😂😂😂 it was like I was earing myself
How did you get an internship with a Gpa below 3.0 I’ve got a 3.1 and I’m struggling to find any.
eli goldman My school has this website that sends our resume’s to companies, and I was able to get one through that. I agree with you though, I find it hard to find internships through online applications, I applied to over 100 and got no responses. Using LinkedIn to network and get a referral from people is more effective though
I'm a middle school student and I am inspired by you. I would like to know what courses do I have to take in freshmen as per becoming a chemical engineer.
Taking chemistry and math classes would be a good start
wHAAAATTT, you only had five classes!!! I study in Mexico and i have 10 classes in this smester, it´s really hard I´m out :((
Wow, I can't imagine! You got this though, I wish you the best of luck
I feel you with the Material Energy balance part caz am in the same situation RN with the same class and am stuck don't even know if i should continue with engineering
Exactly bro, you should continue though, don't let this one class stop you from doing engineering!
Nice video! I'm currently 2nd year as ChemE student. I haven't took some of the subjects you have mentioned especially the engineering design courses. Any tips to ace it?
Thanks a lot!! The engineering design course is different at every school, at my school it was basically just a programming class; My advice would be to seek outside sources of information to understand what you're learning, don't just rely on the teacher/what you learn in class. Hope that helps and good luck! 🙌🏾
Hey, I was wondering if you have any advice on how to pass differential equations. I have a professor that does not have the best teaching style and I wanted to ask what suggestions that you can offer me. Thank you.
Great video
Thank you!! 🙌🏾
Great video!! How much programming is involved with chemE?
Thank you! You will probably see a little programming your first year, it's not much though. Generally though, there's not a lot of programming, just try to know the basics
I also just finished my 2nd year with 3.7 cgpa in ChE
Congrats! 🙌🏾 What’s the secret to getting a 3.7 ?
@@AlsworthTV Focus on hard subjects like material balance, energy balance, thermodynamics.
Mostly use youtube to gain solid concepts.
And try to cover up syllabus timely.
In short consistency in your daily routine is key.
we have like FOUR FUCKING CALCULUS
I'm planning to take this course I'm currently on my 8th grade so when I enroll I will be on 9th grade this year.
damn....u dont have many course!! In India we had 7-8 courses (26- 32 credits) per semester. Also we were supposed to take internship in summer holiday...so even our holidays were gone! Besides we had so many tiring irrelevant courses...so many humanities courses and minor courses from ocean engineering & Naval architecture + Management!!
Which university are u from?!
Yeah, our course schedule is not too heavy compared to other schools. We take around 14-18 credits per semester, and also a couple general education courses. I go to Univ of Cincinnati in the U.S

Do you recommend them eng for a average student
Magic Definitely! But I would reccommend even more to choose an engineering field that interests you.
@@AlsworthTV Okay cool ! similarly I'm going to apply for chemical
I need your advice on something. If my Physics I and II, Calculus and differential equations are all nailed down, will the rest of the program be less challenging??
That's just the beginning, there's still classes like Thermodynamics & Transport Phenomena. Don't let that scare you though, I believe in you!!
I want to study chemical engineering at I recently completed senior high school what is your advice for me
hi! im a high school student and i just wanted to ask which gpa range is considered good and which considered bad in chem engineering or just engineering in general?
3.0 and higher is pretty good
I recently graduated ChE but I'm having a hard time getting a job in the USA. Do you have any tips to score an opportunity?
Bottom line is that I've found online class settings to be more difficult than traditional classes, for myself at least
P.s : I've done the little genEd classes I need and only require core classes now
Classes like that make it so hard to focus, I can relate to you!
Hey guys. I am thinking about ChE, so can you give me your advice or note or anything that I can consult. thank you
I am a high school senior. I really love Math, Chemistry & French- do you think ChemE is for me based on these three interests?
Yeah, that’s a good start. But be warned, chemE has more math/physics than chemistry
So transparent 😊
What institution did you study Chemical engineering?
Thanks for watching bro! I study at university of cincinnati
I planing to take chemE this year just because I love math but I am really confused do I choose the right field?what do you think?
Nardos Seyfu Liking math is a great start! but remember there is also a little chemistry, and lots of physics/engineering. You should try to look into what the other engineering majors do too, to help your decision
Thanks for your help
OK I am an average student on chemistry and also I am not excellent on physics is that OK for chemE?
@@nardosseyfu4811 There's a good amount of physics in chemical engineering, but you'll be fine you don't have to be super good at it. As long as you put in some hard work to study, and improve you got this! I got a C in my first college physics class, and a lot of people struggle with it so you're definitely not alone
@@AlsworthTV thanks a lot
Liked your Video :) but I am a bit shocked how "less" classes u had or just dont Took 🤔
I am also studying Bio-, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering in Germany.
My Classes in 1st Semester were:
Microbiology, Anorganic Chem, Electrical Engineering, Math A (Analysis1 and linear algebra), mechanics 1
2nd : Math B (Analysis II and differential equations), Organic Chem, english, basics of construction and Programming
3rd Semester (hardest one) : Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, fluid process Engineering, Pharmaceutical process Engineering and systsm engineering
4th Semester: mechanical Engineering 1, Chemical Engineering 1, control technology, heat transfering. Finished all, some bad and some good
So what are ur thoughts u have the same experience or is it totally diffrent on ur Universitys?
Yeah, it looks like our coursework is a little different. Maybe it’s because you’re studying Bio-chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, which is slightly different. We do however both take the same core courses (Thermo, heat transfer) ours is just more spread out
wtf, I would die if I came to your school. I got a B- in mechanics: statics and it scared the hell out of me, I quit the program in my 4th sem and now looking at a path into ChemE because I love Chemistry. This is hilarious!
