This show is the ultimate. Being a Navy veteran they really nailed it even down to the hair cuts. I just wished that they would have made 8 seasons. Great show and great actor's and actresses.
I’ve been watching sitcoms from the 50s through the 70s and reading comments about them and have come across negative ones. What they do not understand they are meant to make people laugh and feel good, not to put down the military. In those days we dealing with the threat of nuclear weapons I.e. the Cold War and the Vietnam war along with three assassinations which made many people feel extremely uncertain. So you people out there who are offended all I can say is lighten up, may not like this but too bad🤛
ALL OF THESE VARIOUS OLDER CLASSIC TV EPISODES ARE REALLY GREAT TO SEE ONCE AGAIN SO MANY YEARS AFTER THE DAYS OF OUR YOUTH WITH MANY NOW VERY WELL KNOWN ACTORS BEFORE THEY REACHED THEIR ULTIMATE FAME - THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR FINDING AND POSTING THEM HERE.
I love this show. "McHale's Navy" was the reason I enlisted in the Navy. Wow, was I surprised. But, it is more realistic, in some ways, than those "dramatic" war movies and shows. To wit: the Japanese speak Japanese, the French speak French, and in Season 4, the Italians and Germans speak their respective languages. Plus all the uniforms (except for the lack of "ribbons") and equipment was generally accurate.
Went to Universal Studios while I was stationed in San Diego, went to LA for the weekend, most attractions we got in free or at a discount if we were in uniform, While on the sound stage where they filmed this series, got my picture on the bridge of the USS PT-73, with full background effects. Lost that gem and several others to a fire back in the 1980's.
I loved watching this, first run, as a child. It was fun, wacky, and no one got killed. Even in this episode, they take Japanese prisoners and they're all having a buddy-buddy good time before Cpt. Binghamton is eaten by sharks... in my sick, child mind. 😊
I feel for Joe Flynn's stunt double. Just how many times did that poor guy get tripped, tossed or stumbled into the water over the course of the series? LOL!!!
@pete smyth Heart attack while in his pool, with a cast on his leg. Coroner ruled the the weight of the cast sunk him. I guess it is ironic but it is sad. He was very good at his craft. I always equate Flynn to Phil Silvers.
It’s unfortunate that even today, there are plenty of Lead Bottom types in leadership positions. The best leaders are those whom go by results even if a bit unorthodox.
Also, Just because a country is at war with Germany does not mean they are at war with Japan. We had separate declarations of war, first with Japan, then with Germany. And each of the Axis then capitulated on their own, first Italy, then Germany, and, finally, Japan. Germany fell before Russia declared war on Japan.
This is the most gay-themed McHale’s Navy épisode I have ever seen. Love that scene between Ensign and Commander. The quote at the end “he may go straight” is fantastic. The whole episode is riddled with these references. Previous episodes have established Ensign Parker as gay, but this one takes it to a whole new level.
Back when this was made "Go straight" meant to tell the truth, to be honest, I'll use it in a sentence. "I've made a promise I can't keep, I going straight with her."
It may have been an innocent comment, who’s meaning have changed quite humorously in today’s parlance. LOL! It’s funny even though their meaning wasn’t what you thought!

McHale’s Navy was the funniest show at its time no question about it.
Captain Binghamton is one of the ten funniest sitcom characters in TV history.
i just loved this enjoyed them with my dad as a young bloke now aged 75 i still love them ,thank you youtube and jackie boy
George Kennedy and Ernest Borgnine, both WWII vets and both Oscar winners.
George Kennedy looking good. I shook his hand is a restaurant in Ventura - very gracious.

Thank you for these great old wonderful series before America was completely over
Kennedy's Yves Montand impression is great. Borgnine and Conway spoof the "famousest" scene in 'Marty.' Light fun with a superior cast.
Personally I've never seen this one.

I joined the army because of "stripes".

McHale even had a laugh on Binghamton at the end along with those Japanese prisoners they took. By now the Captain should be an expert swimmer.
George Kennedy would guest star as another character in the 1964 McHale's Navy movie!
I like George Kennedy as Joe Patroni !
Awesome episode
Love mc hales navy since it aired
Now 71🎉
Brilliant! LOL

Yes.., but still a great show. I have fond memories growing up watching the show.
I always thought it was funny that this series took place in 1943/45 or so but the girls always had 1960's clothes and hairstyles.
Good point!

Some other good old tv shows on RUclips: Mr. Ed; Car 54 where are you?; My Favorite Martian.
I find it funny: the below decks of the 73 are bigger than the below decks of The Wanderer in Captain Ron!
8:30 in the morning loved it
I'm surprised that Frenchy could put one over on Gruber.
Try put one over on McHale , old Chinese saying "rots of ruck ".
I could watch this episode 100 times and never guess that Frenchy was George Kennedy.
Curious, I recognized him straight away.
4:00 sounds like a scene out of "marty".
Love this show
The what do you want to do routine is from Ernies movie Marty.
Parker have you been drinking 😂
Bimgton is my favorite.
Binington?
i noticed some thing, the men of pt 73 are all ncoes, and their rank is on different sides.
these days if anyone acted like lead bottom, he would be shot!
Trevor This is a TV Comedy. Nothing is real!
He maybe "Lost at Sea", man overboard? The Ocean is a big place. X-E-5
I knew a chief of police that acted as Lead Bottom.
Fi Fi aka little flower
Hot dog!!
Ole lead bottom was the best.
"What do you feel like doing?". Did they take it from the Beatles buzzards from "The Jungle Book" or the other way around?
Funny Episode
Only one of McHales crew has his rating badge on his left arm.
Per this I believe the rest of the crew are Seamen recruits!
No, Gruber just won their stripes in a crap tournament.
@@Lcdr.Mchale_PT-73 lol
Parker should have punched that policeman in mouth
George Kennedy!!
WeeWee missure Zee Razzle N zee dazzle seas Bonaire pea N the sea 🤓 weewee❗
FEFE LOL PIC PREDATED FACE BOOK 😆 🤣

No, the Japanese soldier didn't have a bad childhood. That's the usual expression for overacting.
Marie Lascomdes
Here's to capitalism.
What's up with this plot? France was occupied by Germany during WW2.
chadkincham not Vichy government and French Polynesia was under Vichy rules free France peace from Paris
A Germany One?
Poetic License. 😁
Maybe this episode took place after France was freed.

Fifi more like moo-moo

Go straight means something entirely different and parker was interested in women

Dream on there Fagula! 'Straight" was not an idiom for heterosexual when these were made.
Gary Graham - And here we were having a light hearted conversation... then you went and spoiled it. Fagula, LOL! I think you are projecting.
