    Looks a lovely flight Rory, my father was based at RAF Woolfox Lodge during the war and was seeing my mum who was at RAF Hospital Ely, nice to hear it got a mention. I took him there for a visit in the '70's before he passed away.

    Amazing video. Amazing lifestyle. Thanks for sharing. What do you use as an - easy to use/read - timer Rory?
    The issue with "Zone" versus "Approach"? In these parts, iirc, Eg "Brize Norton Zone" and when active "Lynham Zone", back in the day military were "Zones" and civilian were "Approach" and "Departure"?
    "Sorry can't fight a war the wind is in the wrong direction", quite right too lol! But the new Raptor struggles with passwords and starting up, thus delayed or cancelled missions - I wonder if it uses Windows 10?! Lmao! My friend's, boss's new £70k Mercedes is the same "sorry you'll have to wait to start your journey, 30mins - 2hrs of updates detected". Oops! Something to be said for k.i.s.s.

    • @RoryOnAir
      @RoryOnAir  3 года назад +1

      Yes, military use zone where civilian stations don’t, but radar and approach are common to both - that’s my understanding anyway. I think it’s hard to tell who’s using what as it changes. Also, did you notice that Marham told me to call Coningsby but didn’t say zone or approach?
      The transponder has a timer on it which is very handy. And yes, more complicated tech is not always fault free!

    • @musoseven8218
      @musoseven8218 3 года назад +1

      Hi Rory,
      Good points, I didn't know if it was the same, I was talking about the early 1980s - late 1990s, not that I was always paying full attention, ha ha! Yes I did notice that Marham didn't state 'Zone' or 'Approach', very confusing for onlookers like me. Useful that timer on the transponder. Having easily viewable, to hand items when work load is high can really help. You're becoming an old hand now though mate, very exciting times.

    • @RoryOnAir
      @RoryOnAir  3 года назад +1

      @@musoseven8218 well I still feel extremely green but each flight helps add to my experience and you’re absolutely right about the tech being there to help. Even the transponder having real buttons for the number input helps a lot.

      Transponders? Proper buttons, proper sized buttons etc? I completely agree. Some of those found in microlights etc are - perhaps understandably - very fiddly and small.
