That sounds pretty cool. It wasn’t a huge issue and I have the licence now but the quicker they can issue it the better I think. 👍 Thanks for watching.
Is progressing to FI a natural step towards hours building for the full CPL? Ohhh a couple of VC10s on the deck at Bruntingthorpe, brings back memories.
Yes, it seems to be a good way to go because you gain a lot of hours and experience quite quickly. I’d like to visit Bruntingthorpe at some stage actually.
Hi Rory, nice to see you in the air again. Really interesting stuff. I like Bruntingthorpe, I well remember seeing the 'Rolling Thunder', jet fast taxi events, awesome. If you become an instructor, does that help with hour building towards a commercial pilot job? Also have you covered off IFR and night ratings etc yet?
Thanks Muso. Yes, instructors can log around 600 hours a year at some busy schools (Helicentre Aviation being one such busy school) so it’s a great way to gain experience and log time while helping others achieve their own flying goals. I have a night rating but no IR - that’s a big course itself.
Thanks Rory, interesting stuff, good luck with it all. I suspect commercial firms expect a pilot to have thousands of hours? I always fancied flying for Santini Air lol!
Thanks Rory, I think that instructing can be very rewarding too. I read a story whereby a woman with stage four cancer, was told by her oncologist, to find something to occupy her mind (there was little hope for her, even with her continuing treatment). She took a trial flight in a helicopter, then took lessons, beat cancer and, iirc is now a commercial helicopter pilot! Remarkable!
