      Hey, outta curiosity, what difference does not placing ‘non choking’ hand behind head (knuckle side) make with what you did there ie hand on top of head? Newbie question

    22 years ago when I began teaching BJJ, I developed a heavy Brazilian accent..and I don't speak a word of Portuguese. I can tell this BB trains with the Rener GJJ. Brother, I closed my eyes and you sound just like him; pauses and inflections are spot on. Great job

    Masakatsu Funaki got destroyed by this move.
    Unfortunately you couldn't see how Rickson got the back position on the original footage, so I'm glad you made that much clear!
    Bringing your knee back and dragging him so he ends up on his stomach was the last I'd expect.
    So thanks for this clear video, Oss!

    To be fair- This video is a Rickson Gracie transition from mount to twisting arm control to the rear naked choke (RNC) taught very well. On the RNC choke itself, Rickson has a couple pressure elements that are not in this video in and with all due respect. ~ "little" Tony Pacenski

    • @Owl-of-Minerva
      @Owl-of-Minerva 10 лет назад

      You say, "Rickson has a couple pressure elements that are not in this video in and with all due respect" In the video from 2:58 - 3:16 they explain why they don't show those elements. Tony, are you going to grace us with the details?

    • @umkeeper
      @umkeeper 8 лет назад

      Tony Pacenski it took me a while to fully understand this position without those key elements of pressure, I finally got it now! This position is by far my greatest finisher now, I figured it on my own perhaps I'll make a vid on how to apply that pressure and details in the control and maybe you can help me with a few details if I missed any 😉

    • @WolframtheBlessed3499
      @WolframtheBlessed3499 7 лет назад

      Everybody makes a big fucking deal about begging for the "secret" details. If you start with a basic understanding of the positions and study the mechanics of it, followed by constant drilling, live practice, and partner feedback you will get those details. I did this in studying Rousimar Palhares' and Eddie Cummings' heelhook application. It took me four months of practice and study as well as drilling and trial and error BUT FUCKING "A"!! I GOT THE SON OF A BITCH. I then used it to win gold at NAGA April of 2016 when that tournament came to my town in North Richland Hills, Texas. I broke my first opponent's leg with it (offered to take him to the hospital but he refused), and the second opponent tapped frantically just as I was about to pull. The position belongs to whomever studies it and works hard for their discovery of it.

      Grappler Baki Hey smart guy, why don't you go watch part 2 of this video where they actually do give the "secret" details people were asking for, and tell me if you would have figured ANY of that out on your own. No, you wouldn't have. So chill out.

    This is just a procedure that Rickson does, there is nothing uniquely Rickson in there. IT is simply a gift wapping lock from side control, turning him over into reverse mount and rear naked choke.

    • @Seegie16
      @Seegie16 8 лет назад +3

      There is plenty unique to rickson . like the 12 small steps or so that are performed perfectly before the choke is sunk. Ive seen this taught by high level judoka and catch guys and that is the difference. The judoka or catch guys have maybe 4-5 steps with most of it being momentum. Whereas Rickson may break it down into 12-15 steps that are perfectly performed and if one of the steps gets jammed up its 12 perfect steps into something els so on an so on.

    • @sharracarter5255
      @sharracarter5255 10 лет назад +1

      Hello, I don't think its a matter of being difficult to get hand behind there. He just was showing that you don't have to put hand behind head like all other rncs recommend because person getting choked has their hands pinned by their own weight so they can't remove the person's hands who is applying the choke. Hope this helps

    how do you stop the guy from posting the leg not allowing you to roll him over? I get this move a lot especially the first time or two i do it, but when a guy wises up he starts using his invisible force with the right leg and I'm unable to get him to his stomach

    • @JiuJitus1210
      @JiuJitus1210 10 лет назад +1

      I believe you need to block his right leg with your right leg. If your opponent is blocking you from rolling him on his stomach, your right leg isn't in the correct position. Look at around 2:34 in the video. You'll see when your foot should be to block his leg. I suspect that when you drag the guy back, it stretches him out so he can't block you from turning him over on his stomach.

    • @wildcat31772
      @wildcat31772 9 лет назад

      Pretty much what Paul said. When he modifies the mount to more of an S mount the vertical leg is right at the guy on the bottoms' hips. When he pulls him he's pulling him essentially in a circle away from his planted foot which will stretch the person on bottom out so they don't have any leverage.

    It was nice that you showed this, however:
    1) Your weight distribution is terrible. You hips have to be on your opponent all the time. You let him so loose he could escape easily if he wanted
    2) Rickson never put his hips back when doing this. I even went watching his fight against Funaki again because off this video to make sure I wasn't wrong. Rickson basicaly put them in that "arm triangle" position, with his hips very high, and then rolled his opponents over his hips, meaning he would be actually under then when rolling the guys, he never lean back when rolling as you did here. Because if he did that they would gone in a second, if there are a sacred rule in jiu jitsu is, if you are on top, your weight has to be on your opponent. And Rickson understood it better then nobody.

    Have you guys stolen the Gi-less Kata Hajime yet? It is the best choke there is for getting tap out in seconds. When somebody is on their hand s and knees shot the half nelson thru and the jump over their back putting the hook in on the other side and while rolling over thread the RNC arm thru the half-nelson and put hook in on other side. Then squeeze your legs tight at the hips, push head forward with the Half arm and arch your back and putting pressure on with the RNC too. If they didn't tap by now you did something wrong. The pressure is insane and you can put it in a second even though it seems so complicated. I love chokes and know almost all of them but having taken almost everything I throw out what doesn't work or is too hard to do. Like the Guillotine only works on stupit folks or in certain situations....anyone better than me is gonna be in side control on me..not good.

    • @kigawman
      @kigawman 9 лет назад

      +KDSlaughtermad The Gracies have pretty much stolen every technique that the Kodokan had developed for the past 134 years! They're good at it and they're even better by renaming them to fit their "copying" lifestyle - lol!!

    • @kigawman
      @kigawman 8 лет назад

      Red Pariah
      Ok. Whatever! I don't care anyway if you claim my statement retarded. The only 'retarded' ones are those people insisting that newaza existed during Bushi periods HAHA!! Try to find that in any feudal clan in any Japanese text and I'm sure historians will actually laugh at you if that's your belief! So you tell me chump, is jujutsu 'newaza alone', or more than newaza alone?

    • @kigawman
      @kigawman 8 лет назад

      Red Pariah
      Again, you have not answered my question, is jujutsu 'newaza alone', or more than newaza alone?
      To tell me that how is it relevant about "There is however no serious grappling system in the world that has no ground techniques." That tells me you don't much about where newaza came from! So then, how is it relevant then if you think its irrelevant?
      And please, don't tell me about Fusen Ryu nor even mention Tanabe Soke! Neither Fusen Ryu nor Mataemon have anything to do with the creation of newaza! Don't go to that angle b/c John Danaher was never telling the exact story back in 2003!!

    • @kigawman
      @kigawman 8 лет назад

      Red Pariah
      You said in your first statement "Nobody has property rights on martial arts techniques or otherwise there would pretty much only be pankration (basically ancient greek mma)." - However, if you check what the Gracies have done for 80+ years, they have made money AND bragging rights about the techniques that Judo 'graciously' taught them! Painfully so that the Gracies' cocky and bastard attitude have allowed such likes as Rorion Gracie to market to name *GRACIE JIU-JITSU* to the masses! Doesn't that tell you that a grappling art developed by a group of people in one place called The Kodokan, was likely stolen and was claimed wrongfully as property? Also, the Kodokan, Sambo, nor Catch Wrestlers had nothing to say against the popularity of the Gracies. And yet this family never gave honor to these arts!! It shows the kind of attitude they exemplify. So go ahead, name the choke Rickson Gracie Choke! Not on my knowledge b/c that will be a Judo shimewaza called Hadaka Jime!

    • @kigawman
      @kigawman 8 лет назад

      Red Pariah
      "I am not interested in the historical background of Japanese martial arts (i.e. I dont care). It is of no importance to todays martial arts." - On the contrary, IT IS IMPORTANT TO TODAY'S MARTIAL ARTS!
      I hate to say this but BJJ does not differ to Judo! Neither can you make a claim that BJJ split from Judo. ("When ne waza became part of Judo is not important." - what do you mean by this statement? It does not make sense!)
      "BJJ includes tachi waza and ne waza but what makes it different from Judo is that it neglects tachi waza and uses the techniques on foot as a means to use what it focusses on (the ground work). That is not an argument. Its a statement of fact." - Where did BJJ copied that idea? Where else than from Kodokan Judo!
      Can you give something original that BJJ can claim as actually theirs? There are some existent grappling arts (NOT JUJUTSU!) That did have some newaza. But its not compared to what the Kodokan had developed! Most, if not, all the techniques we do are all Judo techniques and I'm not going to retract that statement.

      On the contrary, memorizing the Japanese term does not make me, nor you, better than other people. Its about who taught and who were the ones that showed the technique and the ones before Rickson that knew this before him. So I ask what, what gaul does Rickson, or anybody who patronizes him to call a choke that's not his and name it after him? You think I'm a loser - lol!! Haha!! There are more losers here who believe bjj was invented by the Gracies!

      They are not calling Hadaka Jime or rear naked choke to Rickson Gracie Choke, they are talking about the setup to get the choke, forget the choke and watch the movements before the choke, that is what they are calling "Rickson Gracie Choke" just to identify and because he used to do it alot.

      There are other sources of info, aside from Wikipedia, to support what I just said. The name I mentioned is just a partial part of 'the big picture.' Unfortunately, RUclips does not allow ppl. like me to post links on comments these days.
      I do however would encourage you to do your research. You will find it amazing that the Gracies in the 1920's are nothing more than business minded individuals that became successful in marketing a Martial Art. Combat Sport wise, they're a bunch of frauds who claim they invented a 'system'. Yet the truth is, they didn't!
      History does refute the Gracies and I'm not the only one who will say it!

      +kigawman It's a rear naked choke (hadaka jime) but how Rickson used it in his fights is what makes it "his" own version of hadaka jime. It's just "names" man, no one's stealing anything here. In fact, if you read Dr. Kano's book, he emphasized that jujutsu (kano jujutsu which became kodokan judo later on) needs to spread. And that's what it is, and even Mestre Helio Gracie got a third degree black belt from kodokan, of course because his (jujitsu/judo) roots we're the same. But Helio didn't want anything from kodokan to "limit" his own expression of Jiujitsu. Thus Gracie Jiujitsu was born. For people to share such knowledge, we must be grateful. And the Kodokan doesn't OWN the chokes or armbars, in fact, the KODOKAN Judo was a combination of different styles of RYU's at that time, O sensei Kano took the best and safest and BORROWED it and called a system of his own. Sensei Kano didn't Created the chokes by himself, Different "variations" from different families of samurais contributed to every "accepted" sets you see in the Kodokan nowadays. This whole Judo vs BJJ thing really is nothing, because the SAMURAIS created this. Not judo, not BJJ. But I'm grateful, because I get to enjoy a martial art that is very effective. Don't get me wrong, I'm a judoka too.

      Oe Mor "KODOKAN Judo was a combination of different styles of RYU's at that time" - Tell me, does everything that the koryu did before the meiji-era resemble THAT which we do nowadays? Before you say yes, please do your research first!
      What is the difference, technique wise, does Rickson does with hadaka-jime compare to what Judo does? What he does is EXTREMELY SIMILAR to what Judo does, so you mean to tell me that hadaka-jime belongs to Rickson exclusively? - Its ridiculous if I can say so myself!
      Need I remind you that Kodokan Judo is NOT pure jujutsu, and rather, a combination of martial arts styles ranges from several jujutsu ryu, to western style wrestling (particularly catch-wrestling), to Chinese chin-na? This business of Judo came exclusively from jujutsu is not acurate b/c there are techniques, by Kano's system, that are not entirely based on several ryu alone before 1882! Case in point: the Americana and Kata Guruma.
      Gracie Jujutsu is NOTHING MORE THAN JUDO! You cannot deny that! 100% of their techniques ARE Judo! The leglocks and other wrist locks came from Sambo and other styles not found in the Koryu themselves! And to add insult to injury, the Kodokan Judo Institute, along with several jujutsu ryu, gathered together to establish all the technical information from Tachi-waza, and newaza. In other words, all the techniques we do either by standup or ground DO NOT resemble most, if not, all jujutsu practiced before Judo! For example: Juji-gatame is NOT THE SAME as the armbar done by Bushi/Samurais. Why? Because newaza does not exist during their periods, neither does the idea of an armbar on the ground! Such method is considered dangerous and lethal in extreme conditions in battlefields in Japan!
      One final note, if the Gracies' objective is to 'share' such knowledge and we should be grateful to them for that they did, does it even strike you that this family alone, for the last 80 years, have been frauding people, about claiming they "invented" or "shared" their OWN system, when obviously, IT IS NOT THEIRS? Worse, this family has its own internal squabbles, from disagreements from branding, money, and proprietary rights. Does that ring a bell with you that the Gracies are a bunch of bullies, con-men in the martial-arts community? They amassed millions of dollars from a martial-art that's not theirs to also a diet that is not also theirs AND proven to be unscientific!

      +kigawman "The Rickson Gracie Choke." means Rickson's SETUP for the rear naked choke. RNC was used centuries before Judo or BJJ were created.
