"Whether you can escape or not, you'll nearly escape alot" HAHAHA I really like that phrase
Thanks a lot! I'm the lightest and the only girl at my academy and end up at the bottom often, so having several escapes is very important!
Go attack those guys girl! (-: Tom Davey
Trying to learn those escapes too
@@TheGrapplingAcademy how'd you escape mount when he punches you?
Counter Kidnapping ruclips.net/video/lliV8tf2PUY/видео.html : your answer
I like going on my side right away and work with half guard from there
Mate, you couldn't imagine how much I've improved with these video. I've been able to apply most of the techniques in these videos while rolling. Definitely recommend this to people.
Chaining works a treat for this white belt. Last weekend's roll under a brown belt mount: Bridge, hold position to keep his arms posted, and trap arm at the elbow and bring in, but he frees the arm. His hooks go in behind my knees so I defend my collar while disentangling hooks behind my knees, remembering in the process an Emily Kwok elbow escape detail which is to push his base out on one side with my knee so I can step over and hook his ankle in. Elbow escape with shrimp makes space. I shrimp the opposite direction and achieve half guard and get the lockdown, I bring my knees to my chest and elevate him with lockdown in place, make space, create a scramble and insert butterfly hooks. Mission accomplished. Being under mount feels safer than side control for me, even being caught in an Americana/figure four lock is an opportunity to get on my side and shrimp while fighting the lock.
Slowing the video down really helps understand technique. Please continue this on all your videos. Thanks for the content
I love the yin and yang of this. Complementary answers to two related problems. I LOVE the details on the snag and drag, too.
Thank You for such a thorough video on such small details. I'm often the only woman on the open mat days, mind you I'm 4'9 114lbs, so I often find myself trying to escape. I plan to try these tonight.
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. Thousand times amazing. Thanks a lot for your lessons.
being humble makes you stronger and your ego will get you hurt, gotta love this crazy place. good speech. thanks for the vid.
Base out to the opposite side to prevent escape and increase hip pressure as soon as you feel movement.
this is my 4th video i found of yours that i like. you earned a sub and a like today mate
The demonstration of the wide knees + squeezing knees and how this affects your opponents base was a bit of an eye opener for me. I'm 2 weeks into BJJ and in my first ever "free roll" I believe I was in both of these positions ... one where my opponent squeezed their knees and one where they had their knees wide to stop me pushing them over. I froze in both scenarios because I had no idea what to do. These videos are great and give me things to think about! I appreciate it!
The most informative and best vids thank you!!
OMG!! I love the way you explain things! And yes I completely agree with everything you said. You should sometimes let someone who is less skilled or athletic than you start from a better position. Let's forget our ego!!
Prof, you're def lookin' really jacked in these last several videos. Keep up the good work! It makes me want to start putting on some muscle too!
Mark Chan for real. Prof hitting the weights hard
I've been doing nogi BJJ for a month, and was able to better my situation under mount by doing the knee up bench press style escape to slip a knee between myself and my opponent. I didn't get the foot lock, but it meant I was able to survive a bit longer. Thanks for these videos, professor!
Fantastic video 👌👌👌
I’m a white belt and I’m struggling with getting stuck in mount, I will definitely put this to work, thanks Tom! All of your videos are great 👍🏼
You are a Genius prof tom
Good job brother I totally agree it’s super easy to put people there I don’t like working on top because I’m a big guy. But in Crossbody or on the bottom of Crossbody it’s always good I’m usually never in the guard either, but you can end up there so it’s always good practice!
In my school we always work on that also when they get to be blue belts I make them wear blindfolds
The new video format is awesome, loving these longer videos on specific details
You never fail to deliver thank youuu😭😭🔥🔥🔥🔥
🥰
Your video's are the best mate. They've improved my bjj tenfold
Thank you Professor Tom. Tremendous. White belt w two stripes. Trying my best.
just started my first bjj at 10th planet fitness in orange last week! fighting my early onset Parkinson’s! lets go! grateful
This guy is such a great coach. Clear explanations and great little extra hacks and applications. Thanks!
Perfect!! I’ll try practice this one😃
I'm a beginner and really struggle with hip escapes and this video has helped a lot thank you
Man this helped alot.. when I rolled dude off me my mind was like "Holy Shit That Actually Worked!!!"
Thank you man..
Does Professor Tom speak to my coach and personalise the content?! ;) We were only just working on loads of leg locking techniques this last week....going all Danaher-esque on set up and control. The week previous, we explored escaping mount and going straight on the offensive, using butterfly guard etc. A few nice wee pointers here that go beyond simply white belt level. I know many others at higher belts who persist with the traditionally taught, basic trap and roll. That wider, lower (tighter) squeeze on the leg being trapped always helps make any bridge more effective because it connects their hips and reduces their opportunity to marginally or totally disconnect & therefore render your 'explosion' a waste of energy. You're downplaying it to say it's a 'white belt tip'. Nice work as always, Tom.
Excellent! Sharing far wide.
I’ve been Using the bridge technique and I feel so confident every time I pull it off lol thanks a lot! Your the best instructor
this guy is my new favorite instructor
Just starting my journey . Beautifully explained to a novice ! Thankyou
Thank you for all the information I really appreciate the versatility that you offer so that the mount escape never ends what appears to be one Stonewall is really just another avenue for escape.
Wish I could be a part of ur academy. I love your teaching techniques... everything is put so simply and easy to understand.
Very helpful. Thanks!!
This channel is one of my absolute favorites for instructionals.
Terrific tutorial for a newbie. Thanks Prof! Your delivery is incredible.
thanks bunches. I'm a newbie.. 8 weeks in and had my 2nd all levels open mat this evening. I kept getting mounted and wasn't sure what approach to take once there. This really helped. Can't wait to try a couple of these tomorrow.
Thank you, professor! Every instructor adds a detail to this skill for me and you added multiple! Now I just have to remember in the heat the moment 😅
thank you so much for these great techniques! Now I have something to try when I get mounted, because during my first month of grappling class, I haven't been taught any moves to escape, only some random advanced offensive moves. I hope we start seeing separate "beginner" classes for grappling, just as with many other sports.
Interesting to hear you say that if you are a better player rolling with an inferior player you should let them start in a more dominant position. It makes me notice that (as a white belt) the more competitively successful players I have rolled with have always been more likely to allow me to start in a dominant position (and sometimes they instruct me on how to tap them out). The one's who are intent on breaking my spirit (even if they are a higher belt) seem to be the one's who loose most of their compeitive matches .......
Thank you very much for all theese videos. Started bjj 3 weeks ago now checking out all the videos 💪✊✋
Professor Tom has such a slick charismatic deliver with his theories and techniques. Just found his material. Constantly watching it. Keep it up Profession. Very valuable material.
The snap and drag escape is extremely useful as I'm a smaller guy and my training partners tend to squeeze their legs together once I start to get on my side
Great way of teaching..thank you and Light watch over you...and your beloved.
Awesome tips thanks!
Amazing instructor.
Always love watching your demos. Every time I’m deep in 💩 one of your videos always pops into my head. Thanks buddy.
Such a great teacher. Easy to understand and follow. Im a whitebelt who just started and im obsessed. Been watching so many different channels and this is definitely my favourite. You just got 100,000 subs too. Mazel tov
This is the greatest video for escapes
This is brilliant. Really well explained and easy (as easy as it can be for a newbie) to understand. Can you do one for side control too please? 👍👌
This is absolutely amazing knowledge for a white belt like me! Going to practice these tonight! Thank you for this
You're so damn good at explaining. Thanks for being marvelous:)
This was awesome! Thank you!
This is absolutely fantastic. Thanks so much
Professor thanks for making life a little easier for us white belts
These videos are really awesome! Much appreciated.
Thanks a lot, very detailed and clear.
Was climbing on extended hand into kimura (or straight elbow 🔒) is missing or it's too advanced/impossible technique?
This is awesome, training in 2 hours, practice time 😊
i need this stuff bcoz i always have problems when i get mounted, thanks nice video
Great content, thanks coach!!
Going over mount escapes this week! This is exactly what I needed as a refresher!
Tom always get a lot of great tips from your vids! I enjoy a lot of the little techniques that you bring out and show all of us. Keep up the great work, I’ll look forward to the next one! Stay safe, much thanks again!
Wow nice tricks for beginners
This is such an incredible channel. I 'm new to BJJ, and even though I've done only 3 classes. I feel that I am able to watch videos and actually implement them into class. I feel like watching videos of techniques highly accelerates my game (I watched videos for months and months before actually trying BJJ). I find myself gaining and maintaining dominant positions against blue and purple belts with only 3 classes of experience. Thank you so much.
Thank you! Your videos are a better teacher than the actual jitz gym I go to. It's quickly just becoming a place I go to test your techniques when rolling 😂
Grateful!
7:20 is an excellent lesson, also great video thank you
Brilliant. So much good info. Now when I got to BJJ for the second time I'll have all the tools...that I will instantly forget and leave the gym crying like my first attempt haha
😂😂😂😂😂
This video has been playing on my phone since 12 noon it’s 9pm now and I keep watching it
So simple. I love simple
Great video Tom!
Thank you coach I'm learning a lot from your videos

Top video, good teacher!
Well put and nice series thank you.

I "trap" the leg the same way. Glad to see I'm not the only one =D
learning mount/side control escapes and break falls can literally save your life
The professor videos helping me during the covid lockdowns 😭
I have a horrible time under mount.... hopefully this helps
