I have to say that I am very impressed with the way Rickson teaches. He is very calm, slow steps, explaining everything. It is not about showing a move and now you do it. To me, he looks like a great teacher with a great personality.

Lol this week, Rickson also appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience. Eddie Bravo was also a guest. There's a video here on RUclips that shows Eddie and Rickson talking to each other AFTER the Joe Rogan Podcast. Eddie is also showing some 10th Planet techniques to Rickson. Eddie was so excited to meet Rickson that he was speaking so fast and he is breathing so heavily. It's hilarious.

@@whiskeybeerbeer I dunno. If I had the chance I wouldn’t be pushing any more than he wanted me too as well. But yes in a Gracie barra school this is exactly how he says it’s a second class move. Maybe third. Keep arm. Look left. Roll off shoulder and catch head before it even touches ground and side mount. With legs. Sitting down legs bump up and look left so friction roll off. But he definitely does look nervous lol. Like anyone who’s ever touched that kind of person where it feels like your touching a human shaped movable stone.

As much as some people like to hate on the Gracies, their jiu-jitsu was developed as a martial art, not a sport. Watch how Royce dealt with strikers in the early UFCs-- there was clearly more to his techniques than just "duck and shoot". We need more of this in jiu-jitsu schools today. Sport is great, but being able to defend yourself is clearly very practical for anyone, not just someone looking for medals.

Yeah. I do jiujitsu, but I feel like the stand-up isn't there. I boxed and wrestled before so I know some, but I'd love to get the wrestling and grappling down like the ground fighting. I can say that the ground work is second to none. I roll with judo black belts, and when I get them to the ground (which means "when they throw me on my head") I can do some serious work from there.

@@ShiddyShad808 ok now so a black belt in Bjj to fight on the street as to take boxing or kickboxing lessons and judo as well ???
Is this what you are saying? Because Bjj doest have those skills now ...
So if I have to do cross training for defense, so why learn Bjj when I can get all that in any mma gym? ??
A martial art should prepare you for anything. .. doing pounces and kicks, learning to defend them as well , having defenses against knifes and baseball bats learning to do stand up fighting as well ground fighting ... A martial art must have all these aspects and Bjj doesn't have them so why training in something incomplete? ????
If I have like you say to learn boxing , kickboxing and judo it's better to do MMA then instead of Bjj. ... like you said your black belt friends know to strike, kick and Bjj well they didn't learn that in jiu-jitsu school so they had to do cross training. .. so if that's the idea why training jiu-jitsu in the 1st place????
I think that what Rickson is doing its fantastic, he is trying to create what it should be done a long time ago the (densho ) of the art ....The curriculum for all Bjj schools like any other martial arts have ... he is trying to complete the jiu-jitsu and establish it as a martial art with all the Densho ruling Bjj the sport issue it's a decision of the student the art is created for self-defense and to built the virtuosity of Budo in each student for life , the competition should be a student choice and not the focus of the jiu-jitsu
Rickson he is doing the right thing ...

Rickson has so many stripes on his belt it's like he's trolling us.

@phoenix8129 And he has actually has one more stripe that he doesn't wear yet because he doesn't want to be seen as getting favoritism, so he just keeps it locked in a safe for now.

@@jesusthroughmary Rickson already earned that 9th stripe in my opinion, but kudos to him because by sacrificing his personal ego by not accepting it right at this moment will set the foundation of the true highest standards of qualification for belts awards.

I love this. Rickson us moving away from sport snd back to the martial art. It’s really cool how he is doing similar things to the late Gozo Shioda around base, alignment, etc. to access the power of the centre line. Very cool.

As a Brazilian, it is really good to hear Rickson saying "ó" while instructing in English. If you are wondering, "ó" means "look", "pay attention".

My first teacher from Rilion Gracie always teaches things like this basic self defense / but i saw all the black belts don't teach self defense techniques anymore just new Jiujitsu moves.

I once did something like Rickson is talking about in a confrontation in a soccer game. Of course, I can't say I knew what I was doing but it was amazing. A guy came running at me from a distance away so I was very focused and set my feet. He raised his hands to strike me on my shoulders and I flexed a tiny bit on impact, straightening my legs. He literally flew backwards and landed a few yards away on his backside. It looked liked I was some kind of tai chi master and the confrontation ended right there. It shows what you could do if you could develop those kind of skills.

I’m a 40yr old disabled Vet. With a spine injury and it kills me that I only learned about BJJ and the Gracie family after that injury. My wife and I are still trying to have a child, but without a doubt, boy or girl, will have jujitsu so they don’t have to be afraid of bigger and faster bully’s. I was a small kid and the only way I could stop a bigger kid was to just explode with every ounce of strength and energy only to lead to more fights and conflict. I just wanted to disappear, I just wanted to be a kid. Now, when I’m in public I feel like a bigger target now in my chair. It even keeps me from traveling to visit other countries.

Draculino is Gracie Barra. That's a pretty silly statement you made.

    • @Seegie16
      @Seegie16 7 лет назад +3

That is a very ignorant statement. I started out at a school that the professor was a black belt from barra. He got his bb in 89 and opened up an acedemy in us in 1995. Its was very self defense intensive. I quit long ago and just a few months back i started again at a btt school and this school from what i have seen so far is zero sd. But it is very sports intensive and I must say these sport bjj students steamroll me far more easily than my barra brethren who were sd heavy.

The problem here is that Jake is a sport BJJ guy. Not a Gracie Jiu-jitsu guy. I'm sure he has not done that defense in maybe 10-12 years. In sport BJJ everything starts from the ground. There is no "self defense" this is the difference in the two. Any one of my white belts would have attempted the correct throw. The level of details Rickson teaches are amazing though.
