I feel like the big thing with this Pokémon game that has led to it being enjoyed in spite of it being a glitchy piece of shit is, it’s just fun. Aside from FPS and lag to some degree, most of the glitches are just broken and funny and don’t really impact gameplay that much. Im saying this as someone who only maybe has like 2 Pokémon games and haven’t been involved in the franchise or fandom since I was a kid - I’m just genuinely enjoying myself most of the time. Likewise, though, I can acknowledge it’s an absolute crapshoot at its core, and this is in part due to the expectation that Pokémon games can’t be delayed by virtue of the fact that it’s no longer about the game itself anymore, but the game corresponding with the release of the anime and any affiliated merch, which is not a good play for any game franchise to be.

Makes sense, sure, but only because her character is so shit to begin with. “Let’s make a character who’s just the personification of an edgy internet teen.” Penny was absolutely the worst part of the game for me. I thought she was extremely obnoxious to begin with, and the twist with her being the boss of Team Star cheapened the whole story for me. I thought the Team Star story was so good and so sweet the whole way through, until they decided to make this random girl we only saw a couple of times the boss. And then to have that random girl acting like we were good friends at the end of the game even though we still barely knew her? It was so dumb.

I definitely agree with the game benefitting from having the stories intertwine a bit, I do like the Area Zero portion cause it kinda feels like I'm the glue holding this group of idiots together but now I wish there was a bit more of that before "The Way Home" to show a small friendship between everyone who isn't me.
Also yeah, none of us are good friends to Arven. Nemona's more one note nature is very enjoyable but there are some instance where I'm just "dude, read the room a little better." And we've already discussed Penny's not so great comparison. Then there's the cutscene before the credits where everyone, including the MC are just like "yeah let's go on an adventure" meanwhile Arven's probably an emotional wreck at the moment.

Honestly, I think the story could have been great, with a few modifications.
      1. Arven is mad that Koridon saved HIM instead of his mom/dad.
      2. Arven hates battling cuz during the Area Zero disaster, his Mastiff got severely injured while he was battling with it.
      3. Have Star know Penny is the leader, refusing to go to school until their publicly anonymous B.B. Penny is able to return with them.
      4. Penny creates Starfall to get everyone back to class without destroying the school and her friend's reputation, having the school doll out "punishments" and her friends returning to school due to the code.
      5. Penny cannot reveal her return to everyone else to not cause all of Team Star to abruptly disband and forcing "Clyde" to punish them severely to preserve the school's reputation.
      6. Link the non-violent success of team star scaring off their bullies with the Area Zero disaster, possibly defending everyone, bullies included, from the randomly appearing paradox pokemon.
      7. The professor is stuck in a space-time anomaly like PLA and must be sent back to the past/future to stop the rift from spreading.
      8. Their main goal has always been to protect Arven, first to contain the anomaly and presently to be exiled from the present to protect him.
      9. Make it more apparent that Nemona is "miss perfect" due to wanting human connection. She's the negative side to the "gifted" child, isolated and obsessive with her interests as everyone either treats her as unapproachable, or the hyper-competent heiress princess. She's excited to meet you, the player, as you treat her like a normal person and give her a challenge. She's a bit obsessive because it's the first time in forever she has had a friend that can rival her own abilities and hasn't (unintentionally) abandoned her like her family. You're all she's got until the area zero stuff so she's afraid of losing you like her family, and thus can be a little overwhelming and obsessive due to lack of social experience. The way she's written right now is kinda....Yandere.
      10. Mabe make the champion a survivor of the area zero incident, her ace is found in area zero and I'd like to see a paradox mon or two on her team.
      11. Make the champion's personal reason for watching over Nemona, Arven, Penny and you being they remind her of herself or the professor. She may have been her assistant. Penny and Arven being the professor, Nemona and MC as her.
      12. The second "me" isn't the AI, it's the professor from the other game. They collaborate with each other in creating the time machine, but end up creating the space-time anomaly due to opposite equivalent actions in each of their universes (ripping time to the past and future at the same time), causing the time-space anomaly and the area zero incident.
      13. The professor has the opposite box legendary as her "ace", it being agitated it isn't in the proper time or space it was originally from.
      14. The Koridon/Miradon you fight in the postgame technically comes from the other game, the OT being either Sada or Toro when caught.
      15. Give Arven some closure in the post-game. He just lost his parent again, gone through multiple life altering realizations and has overall had a really bad time. Give the boy some peace, mabe accepting his parent's death and moving on with his new friends (the area zero crew).
      16. Have Arven, Penny, Nemona and the player have more interactions together. I think it would be funny for Nemona to be fascinated by the titan mons, Penny trying to be the "super secret spymaster" but dorking out to Arven and Nemona, or just Arven being tsundere to everyone, helping out in little ways and denying he cares. (saving leftovers for Nemona and Penny, helping Nemona with pokemon matchups, Penny with technology and everyone with cooking) Seriously, the lack of interaction is criminal.

My biggest gripes about the game:
    - The lack of customization despite having the most in-depth customization options. You have a million options for shoes, socks or tights, bags or backpacks, glasses, helmets or hats, beauty marks or freckles, hair, gloves, etc. but god forbid you have more than 4 options for actual outfits that you can't even mix and match pieces. The in-game reasoning is that you are at a school and it's a school uniform, but Penny isn't wearing the uniform and the Team Star leaders are wearing heavily modified uniforms. I would wear a coat like Giacomo if I had the option.
    - The Elite 4 teams versus how the gyms hammered into you the one mechanic of "not the type they specialize in but looks like it and teras into it", and also how of all the new ground, steel, flying, and less-so dragon type Pokemon there are each member only has 1 new Pokemon. Rika could've had Clodsire, Toedscruel, Donphan, Krookodile, and tera-ground Garganacl. Poppy with Revavroom, Gohldengo, Tinkaton, Orthworm, and tera-steel Ursaring. Larry with Kilowattrel, Flamigo, Bombirdier, Staraptor, and tera-flying Dudunsparce. And Hassel with Cyclizar, Garchomp, Dragalge or Tatsugiri, Baxcalibur, and tera-dragon Tyranitar or Gyarados.
    - Geeta, the champion, and her team. Like, we all know her team is trash. I'd be repeating what's already been said. I think her team should've been Glimmora to start to actually make use of its ability, then Palafin, Armarouge or Ceruledge depending on the version (she has the opposite of the one you can get in your game), Iron Treads or Great Tusk (she has the one from your version), something intimidating or scary like Luxray, and Kingambit as her ace (maybe it's tera-normal or something) again to actually make use of its ability.
    - Some of the Gym Leader's tera-aces didn't make a lot of sense or felt like a cop-out. Larry, I like him, but his tera-normal ace Staraptor felt like a bit of a cop-out, like it's already a normal-type, that kind of feels like cheating, Flamigo would've been better in my opinion. Katy's tera-bug Teddiursa barely makes sense, at best it's a bug-bear but I feel like that's a bit of a stretch, something like Applin or Toedscool would've been better to go with her whole cooking/baking theme. Iono having Mismagius also barely makes sense, Varoom or Orthworm would've been better, something silly or a weird kind of cute.
    - The whole like top-third of the map just felt like empty. The ice-gym isn't even part of a town, it's just on top of the mountain. The Fairy Team Star camp is just in the middle of bumfuck nowhere; like without the camp there it's just an empty marsh with a lighthouse in the middle of nowhere, there's like barely a road that leads to it. Zapapico serves no real purpose other than having the Charcadet evo items. The bamboo forest and the tagtree forest seem really unique just to have no actual town near it; like in other games, there'd be whole towns to go with them. Also, there's too much of the quarry; I know they needed it for Titan Orthworm but there's just so much of it all.

    • @bfeldz1023
      @bfeldz1023 Год назад +3

Iono having Mismagius was because of Mismagius having levitate and as a result having no weakness after tera. It was purely for mechanical reasons and to show off just what can be done with terastalization. I hate Iono, but she has one of the best tera mons of all the gym leaders for the creative use of the ability alone. Larry having Staraptor was to give him a Normal/Flying type both to hint at his future typing and also to reference the most common type combination in the series. It was also done to make his facade hit harder. I'll give you the Teddiursa though, was a weird choice. I guess you could stretch and say she's a baker who makes sweets and bears like honey which is sweet. Edit: Baker lady should have had bread dog.

There were 8 gyms, 5 team star, and 5 legend pokemon - one for each type; so I was super interested to see what the types of the elite four were going to be since they'd be repeating them. And then the first two were ground and steel - both legend pokemon types. It was pretty clear they were reusing those (makes sense since they were a single pokemon instead of a full team). I have a headcannon theory about Arven's folks traveling through time will introduce more pokemon cause it opens up a way for more 'extinct' pokemon from Legends Arceus to make a return since Arven's mom going back in time might make conservation changes to help certain pokemon return to some degree and Arven's dad might develop more unique and advanced Pokemon that we may see another Legend's game open up with that's set in the distant future perhaps.

Most of the graphical glitches and bugs also happens more frequently if you play the game docked and connected to TV's with...I think either too wide or too tall screens. Me and my fiancee plays the game, and when she docks there's hardly much graphical bugs and glitches and, the game loads a bit better still. On my screen which is a tad bit wider than taller, you can notice a drop in framerate, and things popping into existence slower as well.
After learning this we just plugged to different screens and it's been a a fairly smooth gameplay for both of us with almost no bugs or glitches. Worst we had when playing online was when we got unsynced during online play but, that was easily fixable.
Lol not saying it's forgivable of course cause, come on, Legend of Arceus was tremendous and Scarlet/Violet is more a regression in alot of areas. But in all honesty, the story, the variety of pokemon, the world, the different paths to take and just...playing the game in general was wonderfully fun. Definitely played it WAY more than Sun/Moon and Sword/shield combined for me.

It's really unfortunate the game had to release ~10 months after Arceus, which was a behemoth of a spinoff . . . I know we probably will never know for certain but I think the sheer inconsistency in the game's ability to function (along with the story's to a lesser extent) is a result of extreme crunch.
Still, I can see the boundless love and ambition put into this game, which is why I'm still playing it. I think even if they didn't make a functional game GameFreak still did their best to make something that wasn't the same-old Pokemon, giving S/V a lot of extremely creative ideas that keep it fun.

I feel it might have been a more polished game if they kept the similar style of Arceus (The overworld is separated into 5 large area you can load into). I think, while this will kind of cut into the Open-World a bit, the performance would have been MUCH smoother, atleast to begin with.
