    The Splatfest Hostility that you mentioned was something that really shocked me as well. Before the main event had even begun, people had gotten so heated that they were reporting posts cheering on teams that they weren't on, which soon became a big enough problem that other people had to make posts telling people not to do that.
    From what i saw, the banning/reporting issue died down as the actual splatfest started up, but that didn't stop people from spreading needless anger in other ways. I could literally sense the genuine anger and tension between teams as the event was happening, and i gotta say it kinda disturbed and ruined the fest for me.

      Yep!!! It was.....a mess. smh Hopefully the devs will think of a better way to make the themes more enjoyable and something that most folks would agree with, and also make it a hard decision between the three themes so that you have to choose one, that way we won't have a bunch of folks at each other's throats. It kinda ruined the fest for me too, splatfests are meant to be fun and enjoyable not stressful.

    • @celestialspark5697
      @celestialspark5697 Год назад +8

      There are no servers for the purpose of hosting matches. If games are laggy, it's because either you're lagging, the player you're watching is lagging, or the game host is lagging. (And technically, "lag" here refers to the connection between two of these points, not any one of them -- it could just be some random downed tree in a state in between you has resulted a bottleneck due to oversubscribed ISP partners in the US.)
      The part that actually is handled by Nintendo (or really the Splatoon 3 dev team) which I absolutely hate is the matchmaking. It's largely acceptable in X rank, but it will still generate extremely unfair matches in Anarchy modes where one team's combined weapon selection is virtually incapable of functioning, or some players just seem to have no interest in participating in the game and just sit in the back of the base with a frontline weapon hoping for their team to carry them, never moving out for anything short of a complete ace. Turf War features the worst matchmaking in any video game ever, full stop, and will pair me (with nearly 2000 hours in this game) with players who roll at people with the Dynamo roller or only use tap shots on a tri-stringer, on a team with four backliners, against four players with capable frontline weapons who move and fight smartly.

    Ive heard very good things about how this game handles work life balance, which is why I've been giving this game much more leeway than I normally do. Employee health matters way more to me than content speed. My two big worries are 1, is most of the remaining updates really only going to be focused on limited time events that'll go away at the end of the game's life cycle, and 2, on that note, how much content will be available at the end of the life cycle. I'm guessing they realized later on they want to extend the amount of time this game will get updated, because if they don’t, we maybe have two or three updates left, which is, bad.

In 1 the updates were supposed to end at the end of summer 2015, but continued til January 2016 where they were supposed to be done again. Than Sheldon's picks were announced and the game continued to be updated til the final splatfest with smaller things. then 2 was supposed to end in July 2018, then ended up going full speed ahead with updates til the end of 2018. And even then they added Sheldon's picks back in 2019 and kept making new content for every splatfest and a final big update at the end of chaos vs Order. Hell, they did the same with new horizons. it was meant to get updates for a year and then they suddenly at the year and a half mark in November 2021 released the dlc. it's inevitable honestly they love gong past there set deadlines with every game since the first splatoon

    My biggest upset with 3 is that they barely do anything with the Chaos theme.
    And the one thing they do with this theme (Big run) is one of my favourite things in the entire series and thats saying a lot since I've been playing since splat 1.
    I honestly would have taken some ripped t-shirts or the Chaos headgear we got for the Splatocalypse.
    My second most upset is that the weapon kits just arn't enough the earlier seasons like Chill and Fresh season was amazing but it's been an entire year now and theres still weapons with no second kits like the Squeezer, sure barely anyone plays Squeezer but the Big Swig Roller gets barely any use and that has a 2nd kit.
    I get that they want to get new weapon types out like the Dread wringer and Edit Splatling but I feel like they should have prioritised getting every weapon a 2nd kit 1st before rolling out all these new weapon types.
    Also fun fact: Side Order was supposed to be released this season for the anniversary but was delayed twice due to not being ready yet. I honestly don't mind though having a big run, a splatfest and a new story mode all in 1 month would be a bit too much to handle.

      @ari638 Год назад +14

      From what I can tell, a lot of the "chaos" went into the design of splatsville. A city set in wastelands, all towering buildings made of mishmash parts haphazardly stacked together, thieves for idols, the shops and key locations scattered about the now much more expansive hub, and about as many different cultures as you could noticeably shove into one city. The splatfests (and of course big run) now also feel more chaotic with the way they're set up and performed (hastily constructed wooden mini-stages that shift all across the map, trying to combine 3 different cultures into one song)

    • @fenneko8295
      @fenneko8295 Год назад +8

      For a game themed on "Chaos", it's as chaotic as a line at the DMV. Every map is just a funnel to a middle chokepoint with no flank routes for "chaotic" antics. The weapon kits and specials (compared to 2) are really underwhelming and the fact that we have EXTREMELY dry streams of content (no new maps, cosmetics, or weapons until the 3 month season ends) is really sad. The only time the game ever gets chaotic is during challenges... which only have 3 2-hour time slots at outlandish times for no good reason at all.

    • @vividBloodsucker
      @vividBloodsucker Год назад +4

      The Chaos theme thing is because pretty much most of the content seems made so they could have just slapped an "order" or "chaos" sticker on it once the splatfest was finished and call it a day. Scorch Gorge feels like the ONLY thing that really embodies that theme, and likely wouldn't exist if order had won. This lack of Chaos feels most prominent though, in the concepts for Deep Cut, most of the concepts that went unused embody that Chaos theme more in their designs (notably with Frye's punk, designs, and Big Man's concept of being an Octarian troop). The finalized designs seem to tilt towards an inoffensive middle-ground again, outfits that embody the culture-coding they represent more, just in case Order had won instead.
      Even Splatsville itself feels like it could just be reworked in-lore to fit the Order theme by just claiming it "brings order to the chaotic world of the splatlands" but I get it, they probably didn't want to deter folks away who weren't on Team Chaos or those that aren't fond of that idea, and it's also why the Callie vs Marie splatfest amounted to a mentor and brainwashed ally dynamic which was easy to swap, and overall had little impact in the grand scheme of things (especially when callie was more proactive in S3's story anyway)

    I have many gripes but I think my biggest is definitely how drinks are handled. They don't stack with a gears brand. In fact, you're just as well off using ANY brand with a drink, because your drink ability is rolled behind the scenes first and the game is coded that if your drink role ISN'T the selected ability, your given ability will be anything BUT the drink ability, even if the brand normally increases the odds. I always felt that at the very least, the drinks would be guaranteed to give you the chosen ability on the last slot. The second slot would have a 75% chance and the first slot would have a 50% chance. JUST MAKE DRINKS WORTH IT! Also, I don't need money or levels. LET ME TRADE MONEY AND LEVEL TICKETS FOR CHUNKS!

But by the end of the first season, I was so tired of dealing with the grind. Plus, my respet of solo mode was complete by that point and Pokémon Violet soon consumed my time. When the second season launched and catalog levels were just as slow to grind, I lost all motivation. Side Order will bring me back, but unless they adjust some of the regular game aspects, they will lose me again. They need to adjust for us casual players. And trust me... I WANT to love this game. I dressed as an Octoling last Halloween! I love this franchise!

      People create this illusion in their minds that you have to grind to play this game, for some reason. It's really weird for me to see people think that chunk grinding is actually a thing, since it should take maybe 10 chunks of 2-3 different types to fine tune a set after you roll the abilities on it, and you have to do this like, maybe three or four times to have equipment for every weapon, and Salmon Run throws hundreds and hundreds of chunks at you, and it doesn't even matter much to begin with. Many pros don't even have more than a few gear sets at this point since you don't get gear exp from private battles. Similarly, if you play a few hours a day, you'll max around five to six catalogs in a season; maxing the only one that matters takes about one game a day, or only playing each Salmon Run rotation up to 1200 points would get you there as well.

    The "battle pass, free content updates, please play our game forever" and the more toxic community is a symptom of the game industry itself, not just Sploon. And while Nintendo has put their own spin on those concepts, I worry that Nintendo has taken too many notes from other multiplayer games at the moment instead of focusing on what makes Salty Spoon unique. I adored the game at launch, but it just isn't sticking with me as long as 2 did. The big broad changes to 3 are fantastic, like the hub, lobbies, extra modes, locker, and movement changes etc. But the more specific design decisions, like the map quality, lackluster salmon run / tabletop support, and large gaps between content drops, makes it hard to get excited about the game's future. I came to Splatoon because it offered what I loved about multiplayer shooters while providing a new fresh take on the genre. Now, especially with the the grinding for content issue like in many other modern shooters, I'm finding it not as unique as it once was. Thank GOD there's no microtransactions though. And I do think many of the issues you talk about apply to the industry itself not just sploon, but they're still valid and I hope Nintendo finds a way to provide a new twist on the game when the DLC drops and in the future. Like they did before with the previous games.

    100% agree with all points brought up. ESPECIALLY regarding chargers. These maps have made chargrs wayy overtuned, there's so little risk for them now, and honestly seeing an elitre on the enemy team just kills my morale, because now I have the fun police tracking me every time, even flanks barely work because the map is so small that eliters cover the majority of it. Basically, if the enemy charger is good, you're almost locked out of being able to play. The sniper class has always been OP in any shooter game, but it's the map design that tunes them down and forces repositioning and snipers always having to watch for flanks. These Splatoon maps (and redesigns) remove all that, allowing a charger to perch and never move, only for the occasional special weapon and sub.
    The biggest problem with Splatoon is Nintendo. A lot of potential in this game is lost to a company that just doesn't know how the online gaming world works. Nintendo excels at SP but fails miserably at MP. This is NOT how a shooter should be handled, and I wish Splatoon were born under a more competent company that actually know the ins and outs of online play. I love this game but it's so held back by incompetence and poor decisions from a company still stuck in the 90's.

    Sploon 3 is my first Sploon. I owned 2, but because shooters were never my bag AND I had ladder anxiety (look it up) I never played it. I tried out the Sploon 3 testfire and because it was a splatfest, I played because I wanted to join this awesome ingame party. I went back and played Sploon 2 until 3's release, but focused on 3 when it launched.
    The catalog is meant for you to play (and win at least once) daily. I normally don't have a problem finishing the catalog, but since this season has everything "new" in the first 50 levels, I might not bother. I finished the solocampaign, got ruler of splatfest, and generally have a lot of fun.
    I've gone back to 2 and played through the story and the Octo expansion, and it hits differently than 3. 2 is more of a "jelly bracelets and counterculture edginess" whereas 3 feels more "Grown up." Maybe because i'm older than the playerbase, but that kind of endears 3 to me more than "glittery ink" 2 does.

    Between this, the barebones Mario sports titles, Pokémon's drop in quality, to even the online service itself paywalling 20+ year old games, I feel like Nintendo has really been showing their corporate side with decisions like these.

    I don't much care for the multi-player outside of Salmon Run. But they were working with some new stuff and it is possible that they wanted to be sure the new stuff would mesh well with the old. It's like Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The ability selection was heavily limited, but this was also something very new for the series.

    I started on Splatoon with 3 little more than a month ago with the new pack they released and quite honestly I didn't know what to expect or what would I find when starting the game so my opinions might not be the most reliable.
    As for now I can properly say I found the game SUPER FUN and I love near every aspect of it. It's not perfect, but the issues I found are usually because I'm new and I can barely remember to use my secondary weapons or to roll with Dualies, to showcase my N00b-ness.
    However I agree in several points with you. The connection problems are thankfully rare for me, but they're an annoying letdown when they happen. If they were more frequent in the past, I understand people getting sick of it.
    Maps are straight forward, but I wouldn't think they doesn't allow flanking or avoiding the central messes altogether (but can be risky in some maps). I myself has an habit of going to the flank and unleash hell from there/deep inking into enemy turf. Lost count how many times got splatted by others thinking the same, but worth it every time. Yeah, I usually go Shooters, Dualies or Rollers.
    Catalogs are grindy, but REALLY grindy. more than a month and I'm still at 21. True, I'm casual and I play around 3~5 Turfs every 2 days give or take. But I believe the rate of unlocking should be a little higher with the catalogs lasting only 3 months.
    Upgrades' randomness can be annoying if you're going for "The Build". But I've suffered enough of that in the past in other games and nowadays I just seek to have around half dedicated and whatever on the others (and LOOK GOOD. This is NOT negotiable). Maybe half the annoyance comes from a mindset I have "outgrown".
    So all in all, as a NEWBIE (yes, ALL CAPS) Splatoon 3, and the franchise in general has become one of my favourites. Of course it has problems, but I've gone through worse on AAA's before and still played them. So I'll "Veemo"-ing in there for a long time.
    See ya on the Turf!

    I honestly agree with your standpoint on updates. I’d rather wait longer for a more polished game then all the “we added a new stage just like the past 15 now pls leave us alone”
    If anything, a new ranked mode would be a great way to do this! Yea, ranked is good and yes, challenges were added but challenges are rarely open and ranked feels dry sometimes. I think a new ranked mode would atleast help somewhat with this issue.

    yeah this sums up how i feel about splatoon 3 tbh
    i love this franchise so much and i remember being a little worried about how much of a grind this game seemed to be when they were first showing us the game and i really didnt want to feel discouraged by that
    after the first season i barely play now and the amount of disconnects were very demotivating :')
    i played a bunch of salmon run back then but the rng on the scales are ridiculous and it kinda sucks that i'll probably never unlock most of the collectibles cause of that
    might come back to the game when the dlc comes out, for some reason ive always been a huge enjoyer of the singleplayer cause that's all i used to play in the first game when i was like 10 lmao

    This is honestly such a good video Scott! Tbh i have my fair share of grievances with splatoon 3, like they basically havent made a alternate kit for splatana Stamper mains, and have essentially buffed regular splatana so that it does what stamper does but better, including increasing the size of the swipes and buffing its specials! Really sucks to have almost a hundred new blasters/shooters but then stuff thats ACTUALLY NEW WEAPONS in splatoon 3 get shafted

    This modern way of nintendo gaming feels so cheap honestly, I don't mean to pull a "back in my day" but in the DS-3DS era of gaming and below they used to actually RELEASE COMPLETE GAMES because they simply didn't have the tools to rush out a half-baked product to try and frantically fix with content patches.

    Seriously this is exactly the problem I was having with this game, I've been playing Splatoon since the first one and while I was able to play the first two games for months on the regular, I burnt out on 3 after season 1. While I LOVE the changes and additions to the main systems of the game, it really feels like they did everything in their power to make this game not playable on a casual level. Even Turf war seems to be constantly filled with high rank players looking to level up their gear since that takes so much time to do. The maps make Chargers and Splatlings, some of the most frustrating weapons to play against on a casual level, just dominate. With the maps we have now these weapons often take a coordinated effort to take down and that's not something you can rely on when your with 3 randoms. I never feel like I can relax when playing this game anymore as every game I play feels like competitive, I understand alot of this is due to turf war being inherently unbalanced and I would LOVE more casual versions of competitive modes, the half step with have right now is... ok, but its still a ranked mode. This was a issue I never had in 1 or 2, yet in 3 no matter where I go I feel like I drowning in a ocean of sweat. I can't blame anyone for trying to be good at the game, god knows I still try, but I feel like the design of the game has started to encourage this as the only way to really play. The combination of little content, bad map design, a sweaty community, and grindy rewards, just killed my love for this game. Which is a a SHAME since it easily could have been my favorite game in the series, as its mechanicaly very solid.

    I agree and I feel like one of the big let downs in salmon run is the reword system. The only way to get anything good is with the scales and those are awefull to try to earn after an hour of playing you face a boss salmon and loose and only get like 4 brons scales it makes it impossible to really get anything for a casual player I play a ton but without voice chat and being matched with random people makes it just that much harder.

    I legitimately think that Splatoon 3 was a finished game from launch, or at least a $60 game.
    At launch, you got:
    -Online multiplayer mode with 12 stages each playable with 4 different ranked modes and a casual mode, playable with 55 different weapons with 14 different sub weapons and 15 different special weapons.
    -Story mode campaign with many different levels, bosses, upgrades, and more (that also isn't a repeat of the previous game's campaign).
    -Salmon Run upgrade with QoL changes, new stages, new grizzco weapons, new special waves, and new boss salmonids (and no time lock).
    -Tableturf and locker decorating side modes to complement shell-out machine and catalogs.
    -Seasonal catalog with variety of new gear, emotes, and extras.
    -Tons of headgear, clothing, and shoes with 26 unique gear abilities to customize with.
    -Way too much music with new bands and Deep Cut.
    -Smaller QoL changes and extras.
    To me, this seems like a complete game (It also seems like a good excuse to restart the terrible meta game created by Splatoon 2).
    oops this was a long comment

    You almost word for word matched what I thought about the tricolor themes! Shiver's usually the right (or evil) answer, Big man is the boring (or weird) answer, and Frye is the crazy answer.
    I do agree that Splats 3 feels inferior in terms of content compared to 2 so far. Although 3 has better presentation, more features, more customization, it felt somewhat barebones at the start and feels like it's coming out super slowly over time. Splats 2 and the content leading up to it just felt like a more fun and fuller experience, I guess? I still love this game though, and will probably continue to play it almost every day, but I hope whatever they have planned following the DLC is really interesting.

    AAA companies releasing incomplete games at full price has been the norm since companies realized they could just add the missing content and fix the major bugs slowly over the course of a few years and still make millions doing it.
    With that being said, it is *not* unreasonable to hold full priced AAA games to the standard that a multimillion dollar company should have.

    To this day, I’ll still argue that they should’ve waited until the Switch 2 to release Splatoon 3 & let New Horizons have an extra year of support (since both are made by the same division of Nintendo EPD). I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that Splatoon 3’s legs in the West seem to be mostly gone regarding sales.

    I’m a much more casual player of Splatoon, but I’ve been playing since the first one on Wii U. The default casual Turf War feels wildly unbalanced, and I’m often walking two steps, getting fragged, and then having to respawn again and again. It’s not fun.
