Generally speaking, I like the short radio versions of most songs, but I love this long extended version of this song.
I first heard it on the AM side of our local radio station here in Atlanta. They usually played the obscure stuff. Summer of '86, remember it like it was yesterday.

Haven’t heard this in years! Going through so many changes in my life. Sober 1 year now and was in a super toxic relationship with someone who is still using. I still have love for him and probably always will but I deserve more in life! I am free! This song resonates in me! Loved it many years ago and still do!

My favorite. Love that continuest guitar riff that goes on from beginning to end
TOUGH TO NAIL IT DOWN ----- this song (for me) exemplifies the 1980s. Listening, I sit w/o motion and gaze ... and daydream of my own particular "simpler time". There was joy, promise, diversity and much love ... and sprinkles of sadness.
I cry every time I hear this song. I think of my new found friend that died shortly after we had met

I can never watch this video without crying. Rachael Weisz notwithstanding it makes me weep every time and I'm not religious.

I've always Loved this extended version of this song (My favorite Fixx tune). I wish that I could find it on CD. I have their ultimate hits CD, but it just has the standard version.
I'm here in N Alabama, I heard them play this extended version on Q-104 in Gadsden, but never could find it in the stores. Glad they have it on You Tube.
jeff kirchens 👍.. “Secret Separation” is also a favorite of mine! I have so many favorite songs by “The Fixx”. It’s hard to narrow it down to absolutely one favorite. They are all my favorite!
greg mcgee did you ever find a non lossy version of this extended version? otherwise im gonna have a find a used but clean condition of the record to transfer to digitial lol
The 6 minute extended version is only available on the 12” vinyl release. Even the 7” vinyl has the 3:50 version. There is the “Extended Versions: The Encore Collection” by The Fixx available on vinyl that contains extended versions of 10 of their songs including a 5:39 “Secret Separation”. But I don’t know if it is the same as the version played in this video.
It's my favourite Fixx tune too and when I first heard this extended version I was irked by the sudden halt and the jangly guitars that came in when I was expecting a thumping rhythm. Since then, though, I have really come to admire the awesome guitar build-up and crescendos. I wish this version went on for another 15 minutes 🤣😍

Why oh why as much as I view, listen and watch this I can not find the extended studioo versio any longer on here. It begins with the guy wearing dark glasses and in a seemingly !cold! studio. I play drums and often play this.

This song was produced by Rupert Hine, whose partner Jeanette Obstoj wrote the lyrics to this song. They were a couple who later broke up. Both are now deceased and it would be something if they were now together "in another life" as the song says.

It is not a "secret" movie. It was released in the US the same year it was released every where else. Look for it on Amazon Prime, Hulu, Max Go, Vudu, among other places. ;)
