Rosemary likes to grow in dry climates so don't water your rosemary plants too much. The amount of time between waterings depend on the humidity of your house or garden but a good rule of thumb is to water when the soil around your plant becomes very dry. Also, rosemary plants can take up to 2 seasons to grow 3 feet tall, but if you feel yours is not growing fast enough then you can always try to change its positioning so that it gets more sun light. Hope that helps!
@@gregroth4696don’t fertilize it. Rosemary doesn’t like it, we want to mimic its natural habitat. It come from a dry place so it grows wildly without fertilizers. Fertilizer decreases its aroma.
I repotted my Rosemary couple days ago, but I cut off half those roots. Now I stumbled upon this video. Hope it survives. Thank you doctor... I'll be checking you out before doing something for the first time,
Best vid I have seen on repotting BAR NONE! And that's after about 6 years checking them out. I really appreciate you letting us know WHEN to use the liquid fert vs the osmacote. What do you think about root stimulators for repotting edible plants? Do they work and are they safe/necessary? Any other tips for repotting oreganos & basils? Do we need to let our city water sit to lose chlorine before we water like some say?
Ella Blun it’s interesting you mention you tal to your plants because I’ve been doing that for a few years, and the ones I don’t talk to seem to be susceptible to more issues. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the fact that I’m playing favorites or what have you, yet I do believe my plants enjoy my company as much as I enjoy theirs.
I have purchased several rosemary plant's from my local grocery, but all have died. My most recent rosemary plant again appeared dead, but I decided to cut it down to the bottom of the stems, repotted it and added some organic plant food! Hopefully it will come back! It sits in a very bright room, no direct sun. I'm going to keep the soil moist and recheck in 30 days, I have done the same with my mint plant, it does still show some new growth and greening, I did have them potted in the same pot, but I have separated them now.
I use a lot of Rosemary when cooking and I have clipped from my freshly planted bundle that more than once. My question is how often should I water my Rosemary to secure continual growth? Est. of How long does it take before it has very long stems? It does not seem like it is growing as fast as my mint herb.
after the initial few weeks of watering and using omsocote, once you bring it back inside in the fall, how often then do you water it? Weekly still? And can I use a seaweed blend in the water to replace the Miracle Gro instead?
Hey, do you have any tips for mildew? Every single time I tried to grow rosemary, in a matter of a week or so the mildew appeared and then I could never get rid of it so the plant died completely. I never overwater the rosemary as I know it's a mediterranean plant that likes a dry climate, sun, and all that. But the mildew is just there, at all times.

Only bottom water your rosemary in the morning so it can soak up the sun and air out excess moisture during the day. Second, use milk and water mixture to spray the foliage. 1 part of milk and 9 part of water. Also spray it in the morning. Milk will react under the sun and kill all the white powdery mildew spores. Good luck!

Let me tell you what happened to me the other night. I had just repotted a Rosemary and a basil plant and I watered them with miracle grow organic fertilizer which smells a lot like maybe fish meal, it was real fishy smelling well that night something got into them like some kind of critter and I'm sure that smell has a lot to do with it. So that being said be careful with the fertilizer you use.lol

Why not use an Air-Pot or grow bag?
Also, can you use leaf mold in the mix?
What % of perlite is needed in potting soil?
Great info. Thank you.
