If you look at the seminar Grumman VP/designer for the F-14 did, you will see everything in the plane was designed around ability to sustain energy and get the highest turn rate without bleeding energy. The reason why all of the missiles are mounted in the tunnel was to have the least amount of aerodynamic drag and it could sustain performance a lot better than most other fighters because the wings had no missiles on them and very low drag while all of the missiles were tucked in the tunnel. That is why F-14 could sustain 24 degree/second turn rate and could sustain 9+ G at just under Mach 1. It could sustain a 7.5G turn at Mach 2.2. Don't know how the sims work, but one of the reasons some of the pilots can't yank and crank like a real Turkey is due to the wings set to "Auto" from what it appears. I see a lot of wings folded too far back in order to really turn as it should. Those wings should be staying out for the entirety of a close quarters knife fight. Also, when on the deck...use it to your advantage. With the Tcat, the ability to kick over those big rudders into a real slip/slide can help against smaller aircraft. Pitch and Roll are not the only axis you can control...I saw several openings to kick slide the nose while going over the top. Just those few degrees could have allowed a snapshot and if not a solid hosing...at least get your adversary to remember you're back there.
You can’t swing the wing forward of the CADC scheduled position even in manual mode, so if you go fast your wing will go back regardless of what mode you are in.
How about the SAS? As far as I know, there's conflicting information, pilots say that you should turn the roll SAS off while doing bfm, the Natops has quite a long paragraph detailing why you shouldn't do that. I don't know much about the Cat, could that have also played into some of the limitations?
As per your usual, awesome video sir. I can't wait for the Viper to be released. Thank you for the content you put up, and thank you for your service sir. Not bad for an officer. LOL
Late to the party, but this looks awesome. I've only ever done WWII sims or MSFS or X-Plane. The amount of skill it takes at high speed against someone with a brain, can't be explained with words. Managing energy, your self, aircraft and target is an incredibly difficult dance. This needs to be an E-Sport.
18:46 every time I fly the tomcat I'm always so scared to pull back too hard on the stick. Didn't know it could turn that hard without the wings snapping off
43:28 people abuse the g-limiter like it's the cobra button or something. In the gulf war, there were guys who were flying 10-12 hours every day. They'd land, keep the engine going and refuel/rearm and go back up. using the paddle switch is going ground that aircraft, and take it out of the available pool. if everyone used it whenever they wanted then that could be a huge disadvantage. It's only supposed to be used if it's possibly going to save the airplane from being destroyed. So something as serious as missile defense. The other side to that is... when was the last actual turning dogfight? As far as I know, the only air-to-air kills the Hornet has ever had have been nose to nose before a merge. So people can't really say "they don't use this in combat" because it has never been in a real, trying to kill each other dogfight. I doubt many fighter pilots actually want to step into the phone booth for real, that's the backup plan, I think real combat against another fighter is every bit as dangerous, if not more dangerous than SAMs, so it isn't that unreasonable to consider bypassing the g-limiter, not with the prevalence of high off-bore-sight IR missiles.
Funny a Tomcat up to 260KIAS, 8,193ft, 8.1G, which is way above its Lift Limit on its real life EM diagram (even if you did extend its Max Lift line out to approx 9G)....
Very entertaining, thanks for the upload and commentary. Was very surprised two cats made it to the finals. I think these tourneys will be a Viperfest when the 16 gets here though.
1:33:20 Stuge died to the famous F-14 engine flameout problem that also killed a lot of pilots in real life (Look at the bottom of the screen, to RPM drops out on one engine). It seems that the commentators missed it and talked about other stuff?
I never really liked instant replay but I sure missed it here. I had a blast watching the fights. With some replay, maybe I could have better understood the critical moments. Fun stuff!
The F-18 fight at 35:00 was interesting and the commentary on how to manage that circle was very good. I imagine some people will find it dull but it seemed the more realistic especially since Mover agreed that this would happen with F-18 pilots. Since Mover mentioned the reality that a sustained 8g maneuver like that would be terrible, it brings to mind that DCS needs to implement pilot exhaustion like IL-2 just added this month. Edit: Those tomcats were using manual flaps to assist in high g turns, but the flaps aren't designed for that and end up getting busted and causing control difficulty throughout the fight (and emergency flap retract doesn't work as far as I'm aware). Also, my best guess with the initial dive is that those tomcat pilots felt they needed to cash in their potential energy so they could enter the merge with enough to bleed energy in those scissor maneuvers. Just guessing.
Personally I do the dive to set up the merge to my liking. I try to get below the bandit and then pull up into the vertical for many reasons. 1) If the bandit lets me get below him, I get instant turning room above and thus instant advantage via a lead turn up. 2) I can enter a vertical opening at a higher airspeed than a level turn would allow since going up bleeds some of that speed, thus maximizing the total energy (kinetic + potential) I have for the continuation of the fight while keeping airspeed in check so turn rate isn't sacrificed. 3). If I go vertical and bandit goes horizontal I get to use gravity assist on the way down, this dynamic often helps me get a slight angles bite on the bandit or even employ weapons during the first turn. The chance of head-on gunfire exchange is also minimized here 4) Going up decreases airspeed, thus decreasing separation, thus decrease risk of losing sight 5) If the bandit mirrors me by going into vertical, I know to employ several tricks to gain instant advantage. If I'm winning the radius fight, even a little, I continue with another pull up (double Immelman). If I'm losing the radius fight, I will bait the bandit to take a greedy gun shot, jink it, then unload to maintain speed and continue with a climbing spiral or straight up, leaving the bandit fluttering with low airspeed, wait until he can't keep his nose up anymore, and bite back down for advantage and kill. In the mirrored vertical opening head-on gunfire exchange can also be avoided usually by turning slightly oblique. That was a long explanation, I hope some of it makes sense.
@@stuge2589 I wonder why do the jets turn around faster via upward turn than via horizontal or downward turn. It's kinda counter-intuitive, the slower you go the worse your turn rate. I tried this in War Thunder and the plane starting the turn dowards got a gun opportunity on the one starting the turn upwards. ruclips.net/video/Og4AroOLhnc/видео.html I wonder why it wouldn't work the same in jets.
I'd definitely disagree on the fuel call. It's definitely a sign of a better pilot if you're able to manage your fuel better in order to get a last minute shot on the enemy. It's the difference between a controlled ejection and relying on those bullets missing your cockpit.

I’m 15 years old and I am a sophomore in high school finishing my senior classes but I would like to become a fighter pilot. I’m very confused on the steps and journey to becoming one and I hope some of you guys can help me out. If not, that’s fine, hope I’m not a burden. (Edit): I know this has nothing to do with the content on this video but I figured I would get more tips on a newer vid.
@future chip, C.W. Lemione has a few vids on paths to Military flying. Talk to ROTC at school and if not available try talking to a recruiter. They should be able to point you in the right direction, Good luck and hope it works out in your favor.
I would be very clear on why you are there up front. Just tell them you are looking for information on how to apply for flight school and what you should be doing right now to set yourself up for that path. Check out "movers" (c.w. lemoin) channel as he has been there, he flew fighters in both the Air Force and the Navy. His info is solid and first hand (not rumors) Keep your eye on the prize and good luck.
Future Chip Don’t rely on anyone and let anything or anyone tell you cannot. Seek letters of recommendation from as many people as you can who vouch and want you to get on it - from teachers, preachers, cops, your boss at work, military people you work out with , and finally the actual officers and fighter pilots you could get to know etc. It is key to leave a good record of yourself everywhere and have it documented! There are millions of excuses out there from people who wanted and never became one, from health to family to money to whatever. Bull sht. Do not be that guy. I know a guy who got in F16s with the National Guard despite having heart issues in the beginning, got all his waivers and checked out ok in the end. Stay away from women, locked in, that is. Pilots are not married and do not have relationships, until much later. In that domain parents and siblings are the worst of advisors, so be your own man, don’t be too polite and too nice as you were taught perhaps, it is a jungle out there and you have to survive. That being said! Do understand people and women, I know, a big life paradox. It means talk to people all the time like you would passing by at the grocery store, get to be sociable and to know to keep subjects light 95% of the time and deep things about your business only the 5% to the people that count, but it does not mean getting in a relationship or liking someone, god forbid, you will be crucified and that is not a good start for becoming a free man flying jets - it sounds narcissistic but it is what it is people need to admire you and seek your eye contact and not you getting attracted ie be sociable , approachable and likable but tough. People are very individualistic and out for their own skin, that is a fact of life, and you cannot be naive. Understand people and you will be less disappointed in them. Think that people are nice and once they cut you you will get depressed and hate them. Do not go there. Bad career start, Keep your talks in private, find the recruiters who are honorable and want to help a motivated individual, not the one who just wants to get you in quickly on some list of bullsht jobs he needs to fill out, to make you sign something that will put you somewhere you do not want in limbo. Make sure that you get somehow “fastracked” with actual names and phone numbers of people that are in the game and can ease the bureaucratic signatures and recommendations to get on it. As for the National Guard, if you know people state side, you could get in on an interesting gig, so ask around, especially aviation journalists and photographers etc at airshows what not because they know the people that get the special things done with the signatures to get themselves in the cockpit. Workout, eat healthy, learn to shoot (even with a baby gun because good shooters are good fighter pilots), learn how to ride a motorcycle (but do not ride them and hurt yourself, just the fast skill at a track school), get familiar with airplanes, math, engineering, one art class and if you take flying classes as a civilian, remember not to brag about it, because not every one likes someone with their own opinions about flying right of the bat ie. Stay humble like the Pakistani pilots who made Chuck Yeager think he was a god, do not be arrogant, know that people have information for you that you do not have, no matter how good you think you are as you progress along. You have to get the pieces of the puzzle together. So flatter them and listen to them a bit, like a third world kid ready to learn from the missionaries, but do not let your competitors make you out to be an idiot either, keep your game close to your chest and impress the people you should impress in the ways they would get impressed. It all boils down to immerse yourself in everything aviation, get books on fixing them (what is a magneto, how do igniters work), flying them (FAA website info free manuals), conceiving them (university books on aircraft design), regulatory (airspace and command and control battle management), watch seminars and reports from tailhook (stop watching movies and cartoons from hollywood, for goodness sakes), history of aviation and war, get in cockpits if you can, fly the airplane and the cockpit in your head, and remember that simulations can be good but do not at all reflect the physiological challenge of flight in rarefied air and under stress, ie. learn from the very first step to do it professionally like an airline or fighter pilot would do it (dont fiddle around) with all the safety precautions needed and abilities to deal with emergencies. Learning how to land an airlplane is only one of the many tiny steps along the way making you a well rounded pilot capable of flying at night in bad weather into an unfamiliar airport with new complex procedures, phraselogy and possible issues. So, do not get stuck on small steps, making them out bigger than they are. Just like boot camp, ie boot camp is NOTHING compared to combat and whatever else is after that. Boot camp is to weed out the weak who quit too easily when the going gets rough. Welcome and embrace the suck when they put you through SERE like training. Not everyone can handle how time slows when they suffer, getting impressed and discouraged by the sniffles before going on a 12 miles ruck march. Come on, be tough and do not let that impress you. There are much much longer and tougher challenges ahead, so much that even something like Buds at the Seals will look like a piece of cake later on to you. But know you will be tested with bullsht and the important is to handle failure, because everyone has their human limit, but it is how they cope and recover once they reach them. Because you cannot learn without getting out your comfort zone. Everyone hates math, hard exercise and the humiliation of eventual failure or muscle failure, but that dislike is exactly the moment you learn and are changing your body and mind to improve. Embrace it! Be a leader! And when people do the wrong things and employ the wrong procedures, let them know about it, do not let the awe of rank prevent you from confronting people privately, not everyone is superman but needs to be respect as a predator who got there. Do not let the devil send you to hell, resigned, always get back up and prove them wrong when they make conclusions too early about yourself. That is how you inspire and impress beyond all reputations they try to put on you. So stay away from loser communists and conformists, they will drag you down and stab your back, ie honor good people but do not be naive, do not let anyone try control your life and feel guilty about anything, no one is God yet everyone is always flattered to offer their expertise on something if it makes them look good.
Try talking to a recruiter. I was looking into the AF, told em I was only interested in being a pilot. Took a test, they said I would be eligible, but found at the time they couldn't let me fly because I have corrected vision. But I hear that has changed. Good luck following your dreams 👍🏻
Hi all ! Can someone tell me exactly what configuration was used for this tournement ? I mean specificaly for the M2000-C vs F-14 ! Because when I try this with my squadron with both clean aircraft and 100% fuel, there is no way that the F-14 climb up better than the M2000-C, nowhere to escape, the mirage is better in every shape of the fight. When I look at this tournment, F-14 were capable to climb up really more than the Mirage.. So what is the difference with my flight test ? Thx ^^

I don’t know if these guys in this tournament really studied the planes they were flying.
As per your usual, awesome video sir. I can't wait for the Viper to be released. Thank you for the content you put up, and thank you for your service sir. Not bad for an officer. LOL
I like this. Commentary needs some work but i got hooked on this video
RIP Gonky. F
He was a good man when he lived.
What happened?
Congrats on a very successful tournament!
Great cause, fun event to watch yesterday. Interesting commentary.
You might consider using deck merges for your next tournament, always makes for an exciting fight.
Any chance we could ever have a Sabre vs Sabre tournament or Sabre vs Mig 15?
Funny a Tomcat up to 260KIAS, 8,193ft, 8.1G, which is way above its Lift Limit on its real life EM diagram (even if you did extend its Max Lift line out to approx 9G)....
Keep in mind desync can mess with the numbers
Should of dubbed goose saying I can’t believe we’re head to head every mergers
Very entertaining, thanks for the upload and commentary. Was very surprised two cats made it to the finals. I think these tourneys will be a Viperfest when the 16 gets here though.
been main-ing the viper since release and the thing is a monster!
Thanks Mover for doing this it was great.
??? When you have a shot... should you lead target just a bit, like in trap or skeet shooting?? Thanks, Mare
1:33:20 Stuge died to the famous F-14 engine flameout problem that also killed a lot of pilots in real life (Look at the bottom of the screen, to RPM drops out on one engine). It seems that the commentators missed it and talked about other stuff?
Wow, after watching this I realize I'm terrible at energy mgt. Would love to see an f18 guide from Mover on energy mgt.
"he's just self-loading baggage" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
bruh, this is so exciting to watch. Could be a legit eSport!
@@underhillcody6935 right? How sick would that be?
I never really liked instant replay but I sure missed it here. I had a blast watching the fights. With some replay, maybe I could have better understood the critical moments. Fun stuff!
"Angry Doritos" hahaha!!! I love it😂
Hey mover! was wondering if you consider doing this for WW2 planes next time? theres another sim called IL2:Sturmovik, alot of talented guys there!
I’m 99% sure I killed moltar about 12 hours ago with an AIM54-MK60 on growing sidewinders pvp server name was exactly the same 😂
I was thinking the name seemed familiar, I'm pretty sure he shot me down on the GS server
He plays on there pretty often, last two times I've been in there he's been on the other team. I think he shot me down yesterday.
I tried this in War Thunder and the plane starting the turn dowards got a gun opportunity on the one starting the turn upwards.
ruclips.net/video/Og4AroOLhnc/видео.html
I wonder why it wouldn't work the same in jets.
Dance With the Dead, the music @ 37:00 such great music.
what is the soundtrack between 4:00 and 9:00 ?
Can you guys do a tournament like this but with f22s and Mig 29ms to see thrust vectoring that would be awesome to watch.
What a final round!! Dumpling amazing
I'd definitely disagree on the fuel call. It's definitely a sign of a better pilot if you're able to manage your fuel better in order to get a last minute shot on the enemy. It's the difference between a controlled ejection and relying on those bullets missing your cockpit.
Mover got the Ace Combat reference with solo wing! He called him pixy!
His full name in the chat thing on the left was solowingpixy67, so he may have just read that. I got excited when I heard it too, but based on one of his other videos I'd be surprised if he knew the reference
Man the F-14 used properly is just a reckoning I wonder how an F-14 would fare against the F-15
hey guys can anyone tell me the name of the song which starts when the person starts his commentart...PLS PLS SOMEONE HELP
55:00 question will be more could you shoot enemy with flares?
Press F to pay respect
Love your commentary bro.
This was a lot of fun to watch.
14:28 lol 😂 as we said yesterday the mirage won’t fly without a wing
I’m 15 years old and I am a sophomore in high school finishing my senior classes but I would like to become a fighter pilot.
I’m very confused on the steps and journey to becoming one and I hope some of you guys can help me out.
If not, that’s fine, hope I’m not a burden.
(Edit): I know this has nothing to do with the content on this video but I figured I would get more tips on a newer vid.
@future chip, C.W. Lemione has a few vids on paths to Military flying. Talk to ROTC at school and if not available try talking to a recruiter. They should be able to point you in the right direction, Good luck and hope it works out in your favor.
denny thomas Thank you for the reply.
When I talk to ROTC should I mention aviation right out of the gate or wait and get settled in?
Thx ^^
They said during one of the matches that all planes had just enough fuel loaded for roughly 5 minutes on AB at sea level.
@C.W. Lemoine Hi, this is the wrong video of course, although can you answer this question? Do you need previous military service to attend officer schooling and become an officer?
No.
So cool to listen & watch real pilots fly sim.
42:53 That's what V2 is for.
- Pixy
Mover, how good were Marine F-18 pilots?
13:54 dat 12G turn tho...
1:12:59 he got to 16G!!!
Question: what is the music that plays at the start of this video during the viewing of the live chats?
The genre is retrowave. One of the songs is Rasengan - Turbo Knight
"Team Grumpy is going down in flames. This is a problem" XD
1:02:00 this guy's defensive flying is on point
Dillon is a beast. He was my favourite to win, and the person I was most afraid of getting matched against... but man, those F-14s really gave everyone a rude shock. I'd have loved to see how hard they were fighting their own bird to fly like they did.
@@rossmum Yes! I was not expecting those F-14s to be so terrifying. It was great to see some of the best pilots in DCS dueling with similarly balanced aircraft. Can't wait to see more of these tournaments!
Until he decided to turn into the nose of the attacker
Profile pic. Clarksons smug face😂😂
Great content !
Oops Sungho pulled 12.7G in that last merge.
"He is just self loading baggage" lmao.
If only more DCS players also played Ace Combat, they'd understand how to come off burner in a vertical turn...
Yeah.. Pff they don't play real sims .. only this bullshit arcade 100 missiles under the wings called DCS.
This looks good fun, and for a good cause.
I think you need to crank up your voice a little bit. Because when the commentator talk at the same time, it's hard to hear what you're saying. Other than that, you provide decent commentary, can't wait to see another DCS content
Unfortunately I had no control over that sorry. Sounded okay to everyone else though while it was live.
Good video brother keep the good work and stay safe out there brother I got yer six.
"PUT THE THING ON THE THING!!!" xD
Why was the F-15 not a part of the competition?
I believe it was. Nobody used it here.
Wow this is entertaining!
Why is no one flying the F-15, F-16 , Sukhoi's and Migs?
F-16 was released a few days ago and it's still very very early access - it has no damage model so it's effectively indestructible and it's missing quite a lot of features.
The F-16 wasn’t out for the tournament. The other aircraft didn’t make it past the first rounds.
I think it would be more interesting if they explained the terms they are using.

i just wanna say on top of the great content, great fucking playlist, my daily go to on spotify lol
that was exciting! great final match.
Hey Mover, I suppose we will see an announcement, for your flight with the winner.
It won’t be live but I’ll try to get some video.
@@CWLemoine it won't be live, 😭😭
Nah. That's not practical for this. Never was planned to be live for either my flight or Gonky's. Sorry.
@@CWLemoine we 'll be pleased with some video, then! Waiting impatiently 😊
Was it a rule that no Russian aircraft? Would have been nice to see some migs or su in those turns.
If a Tomcat was a snack food, wouldn't it have to be a Cheeto?
What's the name of this simulator? And where do i get it?
It's called DCS and the base game is free on Steam (with two free planes), however the planes you saw are all DLC.
Also, currently the F18, F16 and Mirage are 50% off and the f14 is 20% off AS OF RIGHT NOW, SPECIAL PROMOTION! Offer ends in 22:18:50
@@SunIRIise thank you
Been watching since 2018 cw play xplane again but in vatsim
Lemoine, man you gotta go watch Firefox. Sure it's a totally fictional jet but it's still a pretty good movie. The only real over the top thing is the Firefox itself but everything else is pretty good....and it's Clint Eastwood man, c'mon! :P
55:27 I thought we were going French, he trynna run away :D
That looks like a cool game
