- I had the opportunity to fly with the virtual Thunderbirds demonstration team in DCS: F-16 Viper. I don't think they'll be inviting me out for a tryout anytime soon!

Didnt know about these guys until now. Also kudos to YOU mover for respecting their wheelhouse and having fun, you could have easily shoved your real world experience in their face but you didnt.
Pretty sure most, if not all, of these guys are pilots (or have been at one time) themselves.
@@mickey6688 most of them are real* pilots. You can check their website out fyi
theres a virtual blue angels, red arrows and virtual snowbirds too
I can't believe I just read this.......
@@ponogaby1669 3 out of 5 are pilots in real life. Two airline captains and one sail plane pilot. One is a metal fabricator and one is a photojournalist. All are veteran sim enthusiasts. Their real life experience is irrelevant. They are great at what they do so hats off to them
Man I saw the video and was like "Mover is gonna make these guys look bad" and than he immediately proceeds to bury the wing on take off lmao
It's gotta be even more difficult for mover since he is used to feeling the aircraft (seat of the pants flying) which we don't get in DCS.
@@StandingCow2 yeah its the same for all sim vs real life. I usually do sim racing since I dont have the money to get into actual motorsports right now. And ive raced in Iracing against Dale Jr. He said the same thing, thats the most difficult thing to get used to. your use to feeling your car/plane or anything through your butt and legs. which you obviously dont get in a sim unless you have full motion rig.
I died laughing from this
Mover: Actual Air Force pilot*. Also mover: almost crashed right on takeoff*
Just like others have said, an experienced pilot *feels* what his maschine tries to tell him. That's not a feature in DCS as of yet.
What this shows is that with years of practice, flytime, real world experience, the skill overpowers the inherent difficulty of flying in a sim. Mover undoubtedly has years and years of muscle memory and sensory memory of what the viper is telling him which do not translate to a sim. Being able to fly formation like that and flying only on visual and some audio cues is a testament to his skill. Well done sir.
i use cw's beard as a gauge on how down the commercial aviation industry is doing. not good ;(
I'm on a three month leave of absence. It's more of a gauge of how my participation in flying the T-38A or doing law enforcement stuff is going, which sadly isn't happening and won't be happening for a while. :(
My dad Dave Leazer is a recently retired Lt Col. f-16 instructor and flying with United now - he's luckily at least been flying 1-2 times a week with them but I'm really hoping for his sake flights pick back up in the next couple months. It would really suck if he lost his job as soon as he got it.
Hey Mover,
So, finished the book I was reading and grabbed your .99 deal last night before bed. That was a mistake. I had an early morning to get up for. So, thanks.
G
I bought it as well to support the channel but haven't had a chance to start reading yet. This weekend probably.
@@sandgthompson I've read books 1-3 of the spectre series and am about to finish 4 and move onto the next set and it's totally worth it they are amazing books for any reader
Maybe due to some of the very descriptive and gory parts not exactly appropriate for the younger ones but it's still an amazing series
That was really good, very realistic, good way to hone your skills , I love the fact that they are all real pilots with experience, you all have that calm low voice, very in control of the aircraft demeanor, I could see how this could be addicting,I loved it....,Mover, you flew the real thing, your skill set must be very high ,but you showed humility and worked together as a team very well, thank you for this, what a great way to learn.....
Hell yeah! I'm a current aerial photographer on the team right now and watch your videos often, glad you enjoyed it.
The guy on the right looks like he is attached to the lead with a steel pole.
I was stuck at home when VFAT 2019 took place and the virtual demonstrations were very engaging to watch. Some talented simmers there.
I love your humility with these guys. I have to hold my tongue a lot when talking to the wannabes, especially the arrogance of some baffles me. Sounds like a nice group. I too enjoy providing real world experiences.
Thank you for continuing to make great videos. It means a lot to people who are socially isolated to have something humanized to look forward too
may interest you. I used to work in a care home as a chef in east Sussex UK. every year we have a free air show in Eastbourne. in the care home we had a old RAF pilot and hes son was a red arrow pilot. every year hes son used to fly over him with the smokes on to salute him. was the best thing i have seen and the old man must off been pride of him.
me: "oh shit he's gonna make em look bad, he's a really good pilot"
mover: proceeds to take 20 shots of tequila before the flight
13:30 - funniest shit ever
The take-off is also very funny...I laughed to tears
Mover Nicely done. Your doggone video had me smiling and intrigued for the entire. 34:39...and I'm no follower of the Virtual/DCS medium but yours(and the VR T-Bird team) is the 3rd one that I have allowed myself to sit and watch. As noted by another comment, much credit to you to in being the "new guy" who is willing to intake input and leaving your vast professional knowledge, at the door on a hook. Much kudos to you and the sim team.
The "Boss"' of the Virtual Thunderbirds gives me some Snake vibe with his voice. :P
Capitano Araym thats why hes the boss
Man, Mover represented!!! W/O zero practice, he hung in there once he got into the slot. Oh, and after he didn't crash on the runway during take off! :) That side by side of Virtual vs. Real Thunderbirds was incredible. Thanks Mover!
Real TBirds just flew over the entire state of Colorado. Those guys are awesome to watch, great precision flying! Great way to show community support during this crazy time.
Love thes DCS videos. Also can't wait to see more vids with the vette.
I think I'm going to do the next Mover Mailbag in the ZR1 because...reasons.

Very impressed Mover I've been training with the training squadron for the Virtual Blue Angels and it can't be stressed how difficult this is. If anyone doubts you were a real 16 pilot this proves you aren't. Awesome job!
This proves I wasn’t an F-16 pilot? 😂
Your takeoff and first landing took me back to the good ol' days of Falcon 3.0. Thanks for another entertaining video!
Mover, dont ever think you need to fly the sim as good as you did the real thing. Everyone with half a brain knows that they are two wildly different things, and if anyone gives you crap because if you have trouble in DCS, ignore them. I think it's awesome you push through and don't let it discourage you from continuing to fly the sim, especially with other folks like in this vid. Not for one second would I ever think that manipulating the jet in DCS would ever translate to being able to do it in the real thing. Your attitude about this is why I keep watching your videos. Cheers!
That roll was pretty funny, the conversation was just completely interrupted by "Oh, we're rolling. Okay."
Edit: That "formation" landing too. Both of them.
Worked at Creech for 5 years.... I knew I recognized that runway/layout! Though I was on the otherside of the base. T-birds used to practice all the time out in the back.
Jesus Christ how is nobody commenting about the guy on the right side of the diamond? That man was flawless for like 15 minutes of formation flying. He was steady as shit and kept it right in every maneuver. Beautiful to watch.
I am so fucking stoked that you are playing more DCS Mover. Also, as someone mentioned below - serious respect for actually respecting these individuals. The platform is different, the skills are different, but they have some serious skill nonetheless. Cheers, will be following the stream!
Lol, Mover bringing social distancing to a formation near you 😂
It's awesome seeing Mover getting involved in the flight sim community. You did a really amazing job in this video even though flight sims dynamics aren't a 1 to 1 ratio with real life. Also seeing you pick up the different aircraft systems like it is nothing is amazing as well.
My Dad worked for Boeing Fire Department, here in Seattle the Blue Angels do Seafair every year, and he use to work Boeing Airfield where the Blue Angels fly out of. I got to meet the pilots and every year they would give me a commemerative book with pictures and history. Getting to see the planes up close gives you a different perspective, I dont know if they are still this way, but the Blue Angels use to have almost 0 funding. The planes were held together with bubble gum and duct tape, the pilots told us they had to go to a graveyard to get parts, and allot of the time they had to make parts work. This was in the 80's, times may have changed, but after looking at them up close, I was suprised the Navy let them fly
This is the coolest thing I've seen all lockdown
So... Mover paraphrases Top Gun: ""Where'd they go?" The Boss says, "Where'd who go?" :)
RIP to Compass and good luck to all of us airline pilots including the Compass CA you flew with.
That was very cool! Not easy either with no sensory feedback. Thank you for the video.
Bought the Box Set - Can't wait to get started. Thanks all you are doing for us "Civilian" pilots! Love your content.

Great video Mover - I laughed so hard on takeoff and rejoin! I had to show my wife who also enjoyed it! Thanks tons!!!
10:30 "look at this jesus chirist I could take a shot right here"
you did pretty damn good mover. you can tell you've flown that bird before. sim or not you still got it mate
Nice job, Mover. I may have to get DCS, looks fun. I gotta say, studying for my PPL on a flight sim was helpful, and yet not like flying an actual aircraft. The sim is way harder. The real thing makes more sense to your body, your eyes, coordination and so on. You did great with most of the spatial orientation you're used to being missing. Love the chatter, you guys had a lot of fun with it which is great.
The base game is free and comes with a free non-clickable cockpit Su-25T Frogfoot (Anti-Tank Prototype) and fully clickable TF-51D-30-NA Mustang Trainer (Unarmed). There also are Community mods for Fully Clickable A-4E Skyhawk and MB339. Sadly you missed the 50% sale on the Viper and Hornet, but the WW2 modules will have sale shortly IIRC.
@@FirstDagger Ha! On a whim I went to the DCS home page, started shopping and the Viper and Hornet were both still 50% off! Lucky me, I picked up a BOGO. Downloading the main game now. This should be fun, haven't done this since Jane's Combat / US Navy Fighters which I suppose kinda dates me but oh well. Thanks, I suppose you kinda talked me into it. Maybe see you there some time.
Cheers
i could listen to you guys all day brilliant content thanks
I simply love this - Mover thank you!!
Would love to hear more about the axis curves you ended up with here. This type of fingtertip flying I find extremely difficult in DCS with my warthog
And what I love about DCS's F-16's is there Default Livery is Shaw AFB my home AFB skin on there birds it's awesome!
Never knew about this channel til a few days ago, i immediately subscribed! Really love the stories and the simulation/experienced level your video's provide! Please don't ever stop and keep up this awesome work!
Wow, wonderful flying here by all parties. Sure you almost created a catastrophe at first but you recovered lol. Got my father into this game. He served in the USAF maintaining Eagles, Vipers, Delta Darts, Shooting stars, Hercules and now Warthogs. Got an incentive ride in the Eagle so he bought the twin tail.
Fantastic, I hope you do more of this.
I use a Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback stick. It works great in DCS you can feel everything that the plane is doing, or is about to do. Very good force feedback, it's awesome with VR
Love the video! Been following these guys for years. They do a great job! I contacted them a few years ago about trying out. The answer I got was that airline pilots are great sticks but they often didn’t work out with the squadron due to being unable to make practice/show schedules regularly due to their airline schedules. Now that I’m on six month leave, I wonder if they’d give me another shot?😉
I absolutely love watching these videos. Good job, looks like fun.
On take off... "Where'd he gooooo?" Get in there! LOL Fun to watch. Crazy to try to fly with limited throttle control.
OMG I saw the thunder birds fly overy house and now Mover flying with them I am anxious to fly now
Good leader, very smooth and good right wing. Reminds me of my time with the Swiss Jet Team, They are no real life pilots but they can fly in DCS for sure. They do formation flying since FS9. I hope that the new Flight Simulator will have a decent multiplayer.
I’m pretty sure they were at one point all real pilots

SecAF isn't going to be happy when she hears about this.
Lmao. These 3rd-person cut-aways with mover like a tumble weed are gold.
Started out watching some random clip about the André interview, and then went on to the rest.
What i find interesting is to see Mover go from just "meh, i just try this out" in DCS to actually really go from "what ever" to "get your shit together" in this clip. This is what i've been waiting for.
I do get it, it is just a flight sim, but it is still very similar (without the "G's", but nowadays all pilots use flightsims)
. I was just waiting for him to drop off the attitude and just go for it. From a shitty take off to adapting to a very serious attitude (for what it is) in no-time. I can tell when you shift from a "what ever" attitude" to actual focus.
Yeah, it is still "just" a flight sim. But i love to see how he improves!
I felt pretty capable when it came to formation flying...until I tried it. Even getting as close as you did is so difficult. Kudos!
Pretty accurate representation of what I see sometimes at work! Nice to get a show sometimes out there.
Have you seen the virtual Blue Angels ? Those guys are super solid, rock solid formation ! Their last show was in F-4s and they had some folks backseat ride and watch from there ! Airshow season is coming too, in DCS, that is.
It was an outstanding show, here's a link to the recording on Twitch, some of the audio is muted for music copyright but the visuals tell the story. www.twitch.tv/videos/519801687?t=01h20m56s
The initial rejoin was awesome! It seems like it just clicked for you at that point. Although simulated; very beautiful flying guys!
Watched them before.. Pretty amazing job they do!
I remember doing this type of flying on FSX back in '12. (FSX Steel Eagles) It's tough! Great job sticking in slot, it does have the best view 😁
Trim check? nah, bit check? eh nah. Pull chocks? nah. we jumping them. XD One hell of a take off though. Don't really know if Demo/thunderbirds usually fly with Pylons on or not. Great video! the moment that F-16 Blk 50 came out I jumped into her as quick as I could!
The third person shots are hilarious. The 3 front jets are tightly formed and not a whole lot of movement... then you have Mover in the back and his plane is moving all over the place lmao
Oh Mover, considering your comment about the Warthog, you really need to check out the actual best HOTASs out there, stuff like the VIRPIL line, VKB line, and WINWING line to name a few. Don’t get me wrong, the Warthog is the strong and well known model, but there are some amazing small batch companies out there that blow away the Warthog pretty solidly.
Yes but can the brrrrrrrrrt
I’ve been flying X-plane for years and have no problem doing carrier landings or flying Helos, but I just can’t seem to match the speeds of my wingman for a formation flight or a hookup to a tanker. Looks like a lot of fun and I’m sure if I practice enough, I will figure it out. Great video Mover! (Bill from Slidell)
Just finished Spectre Rising, just gonna say I’m gonna finish these books before I get back from Kuwait. Really loved the details of the F-16s and the rest of the other action.
WELL done my brotha!! NICE... this is too cool man, love that virtual Thunderbird thing
There are virutal air shows that are put on and streamed on twitch. These guys participate as well and it's down right impressive to watch.
Loved the video!! Very well put together!!!
Also loved the canopy roll lol
Just bought your books... looking forward to them, haven't read anything like them since James Huston's Flash point and fall out like 20 years ago...
27:34 Ah, the beautiful symphony of vacuum cleaners singing together !
damn this is cool, Didn't even know it exist, Virtual thunderbirds and Virtual Blue angels
First. Love your vids. They are soooo entertaining.
This is breathtaking!! Great job!
During the start you see 3 guys perfectly lined up and synchronously acting this one whiggeling around allmost grounding the plane after a few seconds totally uncontrolled...It is so funny :-)
That F-16 gear is very unforgiving to rapid steering!!
Shaky takeoff but you saved it. Outstanding!
"don't think they'll be inviting me out for a tryout anytime soon!"
you are too strict with yourself
cmon I say that you have done a great job, great handle
Oh my gosh their audio is amazing
Enjoy a lot DCS`s videos👍
Definitely fun to watch..😉
Obviously not easy to fly in formation...sitting at a desk.
You're like the Steve McQueen of the skies, cool and modest.
I have raced dirt bikes for over 30 yrs and computer sims don’t do it justice. I imagine it’s the the same flying the F16 Mover . Zero consequences makes for bold pilots ! But it’s a lot of fun , beats a Cessna 172 any day .
2:28 those are the happiest jets i have ever seen
"I can spot him by his PIO" ROFL I kept thinking the same the whole time :D
That's some FUNNY shit right there...…. Mover and some serious Pilot Induced Oscillations
incredible. I just looked up some of the other display teams. I cant imagine the hard work that must go into this but is it bad that after 10 minutes I just wanted to see strafing runs and fox 2's?
naaah, formation flying is fun, but in small portion tbh :D i wanted to see them go in ACM at some point too :D
Hey that was good fun to watch 👍
Those Jets wallowing above your cockpit made me queasy... #nauseating
Interesting take-off !
Such a beautiful aircraft.
I'm just sitting here wondering when Mover is gonna notice that he has his boards out... :-P
When?
@@CWLemoine 13:30. I can also hear the SFX of them sticking out a little longer than they should haha
They weren't out the whole time. Just to control closure for that part.
@@CWLemoine Gotcha. Fantastic video by the way and really well flown given your limited experience in DCS!
In a virtual F-15 group I flew in, VIKAT, I had my boards out for the entire practice. In the debrief, I got a callsign “Boards”. It was hilariously embarrassing.
Good stuff Mover! Thanks
Thank you for your Service! Also thank you for the amusement. Mover you need to shave too 😁 I had to I didn't scare the few guests we have at the hotel (Yes they are essential workers).
Road of the Gypsy makes a fine soundtrack to this :D
This reminds me of when I was a kid in the 90s, and would play Janes US Navy Fighters...I would take hours and program 3 other F-18s to fly a route and I would be the 4th (slot). A cheap version of the Blue Angels.
Looks like you had a lot of fun : ) Sounds like a great bunch of guys! Ray flies like a beast btw.
Remember kids, PRACTICE : )
edit PS. BTW, you ARE a nerd now Mover O7
"I'm just gonna step out for a bit...." No! There goes my immersion!
This is awesome! I fly DCS, but I don't fly like this in DCS haha. Awesome video.
That's awesome chaps!
Mover, would you perform better in real F-16 Thunderbirds than in those Virtual? Do you feel handicapped playing virtual Jet in comparison to Real F16
1000% yes. DCS is good, but being in a real jet with a real stick that doesn't move (mine is sitting on my desk) with a real throttle and real world visuals would be so much easier. Not to mention being able to feel air under your ass and everything the jet is doing.
Be the same for any sim. We use all our senses simultaneously to process things & theres no way any game can match them all, so would always be handicapped. At least not until we are all hooked up to the matrix & dont know any better
C.W. Lemoine I respect you for being supportive of these people and just so cool hanging out. I look over Tyndall AFB occasionally and see some T38’s making some awesome touch and goes and wonder to myself “ was that the world famous mover buzzing us?!”
@@CWLemoine There is a product called Jetseat/Jetpad that actually works and gives you a lot of feedback. Seems like it is out of stock now ( andres.shop ), but highly recommended. Also, for the F-16, the FSSB R3 stick base is incredible ( realsimulator.com/html/fssb_r3_lighting.html ).
You should also consider the monstertech mounts, that prevent you from having to have the stick on the desk which is just awful. Highly recommended ( www.monstertech.de/en/ )
