Advice: The RWR has a blind spot under the belly of the aircraft. When you roll the belly towards the SAM site, RWR warning will stop. When you level out it will start again. Its still the same missile chasing you. Be aware of that.
That same spot is at the top of the aircraft also!
Blind spot under the belly, I wonder how many virtual pilots share this problem with the Viper's RWR.
Is it an ingame problem or is this actually how it is irl?
@@crazydave1 That’s IRL. The RWR in pretty much every jet has blind spots.

Guess you learned your fuel management from me too.... It's a horrible habit, but it certainly makes things interesting to the very last second.

I'm so glad that Drewski does a lot of DCS world now. I now get to watch my favorite gaming youtube fly combat sims.
Same
I've been doing DCS WOrld for a bit now, played a few games with Drewski in Squad, always thought it would be cool to see him try out DCS. Glad he finally made it in. I never in a million years saw myself as a flight sim guy, let alone a DCS flightsim guy, but learning the weapon systems, spending the man hours to try and figure out how to do a Case I, and then fly with squadrons... I don't know there is so much about this game that is rewarding to play. I got sucked in, ... and now I'm about 1000 dollars in the shitter with my new HOTAS setup LOL... but I can't believe I'm saying this, every dollar well spent so far.
@@vagrant1515 just curious
What plane modules do you have
@@insertname2429 My main is an F-18 Hornet, I do have the Huey Module, and Flaming Cliffs, but my primary bird is the Hornet. I went with it as a first buy to get the extra versatility for carrier ops, and frankly, I think its the best first purchase you can make, because carrier ops are so dang fun. Add on the Super Carrier Module - super worth it for the extra immersion and detail on the flight deck! I do intend to get the Viper soon, probably once the Christmas sale starts... and eventually, I'll likely get the Tank Killer as well. Brrrrrrrt.
Edit: Oh, I almost forgot, I also have the F-14. Great module, but I've been putting it off while I master the Hornet. F-14 is a little more complicated to fly with the dated systems, but most people that master it, master air domination with those Mavericks...
@@vagrant1515 The A-10 is a lot of fun. Being that it is so complete it has a lot of depth and has so many systems for you to learn and so many weapons to employ it is very rewarding. Plus yk BRRRRTTT.

I remember when I first picked up DCS in late 2018, the feelings I experienced were very similar to my first hours in Arma 3; I had NO idea what I was doing, but I was having fun doing it.
I know I'm late but Drewski be sure to use your HUD elements on the viper. Specifically at 25:12. The bar off to the right gives you info on your missile's max range and lethal range. As long as the carrot indicating the distance to target is within the lower box; you're no escape range, you can fire your AIM-120 with a high probability that you'll get a kill. Just make sure the tiny circle is also within the larger circle; these indicate the missile's ability to track effectively/get on target.
Nice little tip for the F10 map: turn the map icons to Russian in the settings. Instead of being half-ovals that are just blobs on the map, Russian icons are different arrows that accurately show the heading and direction of other aircraft. A lot easier and faster to pick up what direction everyone is going. It doesn't seem like a big deal until you try it
When I discovered this it changed how I play DCS. It’s extremely useful.
I don't even know planes, i know nothing about this game, but somehow i find myself for hours just watching drewski fly around with a beer in my hand because its just so damn entertaining the way he edits and talks, it's like you're there in the plane with him and hes just living his best life

For a non exclusive DCS channel, this is very quickly becoming my favourite DCS channel. It's about so much more than just the flying. It's the choice of clips, the directing, the narrating. WHY are monitoring ground and tower comms freqs in combat? (No I don’t play DCS but I’m interested …)
you talking out loud about all the stuff your doing at the time is sooooo helpful ive learned so much just from watching your videos :D thankyou
12:49
I'm sure you already knew and just forgot or something, but just in case you did not know:
The S6 didnt reengage, it is the same missile giving you the launch warning. Your RWR has blind spots above and below the aircraft, so when you rolled over to pull down, your RWR lost the contact. Then you went full inverted as you finished the roll and the contact came back up coming from the same direction.
Picture a doughnut, where the doughnut's hole in the middle is the center of your aircraft. Point the hole at any radar and it wont see it. Point the actual dough at the radar and it will pick it up.
Also for the SEAD side of things, specifically the HARM page on the F16, I feel you lol. Incredibly hard to actually lock the target and incredibly tedious to sort out what the HARM scans for, and how long it takes the HARM to pick it up, where on the F18 it just gives it to you. Cant wait for more modes to be introduced to the F16 concerning the HARM in regards to that.
Otherwise, have fun in the Viper, and have fun learning it!
I love when a video comes out how people just instantly click it and spam "First"
i know right

Kids still do that ?

ds and gameboy where pretty nice as a video game introduction, it worked on me!
"its an a10, it'll buff out"
5:15 don’t think that’s what the fuel switch does also why not bags first then u can jettison them and gain maneuverability sooner.
Its not. All the knob does is displays the fuel level in the selected position. Same with the a10 and f18. Bags always empty first.
"if you dont fly the f-16..."
sure as hell wish i could
If you want to range out in the radar just scroll with RDR Cursor to the top and it will lengthen the range, similarly going to the bottom will shorten the range. Going to the sides will narrow the beam width too. You don't need to take the hands off your HOTAS.
Hey Drewski how are you? The vid was amazing. Ans so is the Jet. I hope you and your loved ones are safe, same goes to everyone else
Thank you
Is there any way you might be able to add the landing next time? I was wondering if you landed with fuel or not. Great video though, looks like fun.

I love these videos, I don't think I would ever be able to get into such games on my own, but watching videos like these are extremely entertaining
You can try Falcon BMS. It's like this viper module for DCS, but better, faster and almost free.
Nice vid, good to see you in the Viper! Definitely more suited to SEAD than the Hornet, even if it can only carry half the missiles. How did you get that AWACS callout? Mine in game doesn't sound anything like the one in this vid.
i know im a bit late, but thats using SRS so you can talk to each other a bit like discord/teamspeak, but uses the in game radios, then there's a computer ai that technically counts as a player doing AWACS' job, but as it's like discord, you can talk to it and such, or even have a real person do the job of awacs.

Drewski be aware every RWR in DCS has a deadzone. It is located in a 45° cone above and below your aircraft (if i remeber corectly). When you are manouvering against a missile, be aware that "it has stopped beeping" does not equal a trashed missile.
Wait so were those real players talking on the radio channels?

Funny! Read a thread from the author asking what he can improve to have more people use it... Answers were basically that many people didn't know about it and that truly seems to be the main reason... :D Should be integrated with the more commonly used comms channels, not something like 136.000...

I agree. Been saving for a while waiting to get into this stuff. Still rocking an Xbox 360!
What do u recommend to get f 18 or f 16 it’s my first plane I’m going to get in dcs and I want an air to air plane
Maybe don't get those first if you are new to dcs. Try getting low fidelity flight models first, they are also a butload cheaper, you can get the flaming cliffs 3 (fc3) pack form less than a single high fidelity model. The low fidelity models are made to teach you the basics of an aircraft, however high fidelity aircrafts are made for the people that want the almost 1 to 1 (basically a real jet,but then in a vid game) aircraft, and these are mainly for that put in hundreds of hours into the game.
Basically if you're new take low fidelity jets. And if you are VERY experienced considered taking high fidelity. Btw FC3 is almost never a bad choice
Depends, the other comments down here are not wrong, but you will also be fine with the F/A-18 as your first module. The Viper lacks too many features for me to whole heartedly recommend. Hornet is pretty easy to learn but has a lot of systems to learn and play around with. FC3 is getting like no attention anymore but its a good package to get started with DCS as a framework. Hornet is definetly the best starter High-Fidelity module i did not regret ignoring FC3 until i had like 500 hours in only high fids.
@@del3teo664 FC3 is purely worth it if you might not like the game after a few hours.
@@liamboon2168 Oh, totally, but the top comment is asking for a choice between two aircraft, so i assumed he was already sold on buying one of the two mentioned high fids. So i thought the commeter is dedicated enough to stick around.
