  • Today’s one on one training session was all about the basics of flying and fighting in the DCS F-16C Fighting Falcon. This student is very new to DCS World and wanted to get the basics of the F-16C Viper down so he could better participate in Multiplayer missions and servers with his friends who are DCS World veterans at this point.
    In the lesson we went over communicating with ATC, Taxiing, takeoffs, navigation, autopilot usage, unguided munitions employment, the basics of landing the F-16C and much more! While we definitely had a few helmet fires he did really well and I could see his confidence growing by the end of the lesson, especially as he started to understand the Roll In maneuver more and more!
    Also Please keep in mind guys, that I do one on one training sessions as a perk of supporting the channel with $15 or more on Patreon!

    I'd be very interested in learning the next stages.
    I know the stuff in this vid - getting the jet into the air, navigating, bombing things, and landing. I think at this stage I know most of the jet's systems. What I don't know is when to use what - what tactics to employ.
    BVR and SEAD/DEAD tactics would be especially useful. There's tons and tons out there on BFM, so that's not really needed. But yeah, I know how to do thing with jet, now I need to know what to do.

    Being Fly by wire doesn't mean it self trims. All flight control trimming is done by the pilot. The DFLC will do different scheduling for certain parameters but has nothing to do with trim.

    • @Spudknocker
      @Spudknocker  Месяц назад

      Yes it actually does, the F-16 FLCS auto-trims for 1 G at any attitude, speed and altitude, this is why you do not use manual pitch trim on takeoff and landing

    • @ja1cspikes
      @ja1cspikes Месяц назад

      @@Spudknocker I was a crew chief on the viper for 9 years and never heard of that. The DFLC takes AoA data and drives the LEF’s and it inputs rudder when firing the gun if in certain parameters to counter the torque of the gun rotating but it doesn’t auto trim the flaperons or stabilators.

    • @Spudknocker
      @Spudknocker  Месяц назад

      @@ja1cspikes Ok that's all well and good but from a pilot's perspective especially for teaching new DCS players, the jet is always seeking 1G and moves the control surfaces in such a way to seek that 1G loading on the aircraft regardless of aircraft attitude. This in stark contrast to say a 737 or C-172 that requires manual trim input to retain strait and level flight etc. So the F-16 is "auto Trimming" from the pilots perspective to maintain that 1G loading at all times. The FLCS does not move the Trim wheels to accomplish this it just does it automatically, the trim wheels and trim hat just changes the commanded G.
      So in essence its much easier to teach someone by telling them it auto trims because you do not have to trim the aircraft to maintain level flight

    • @ja1cspikes
      @ja1cspikes Месяц назад

      @@Spudknocker When there is no control input, the DFLCC is making constant adjustments to the control surfaces to maintain the last stable position until more input is made on the side stick. If you ever get the chance to get close to an F16 on the ground at an airshow, you can see the surfaces make very small stutters after a movement. The engineers who designed it are geniuses. The DFLCC schedules flight controls differently dependent on aircraft configuration. Trim however is setting a load on a control surface to maintain a set airspeed or attitude that will require frequent adjustment.

    • @Spudknocker
      @Spudknocker  Месяц назад

      @@ja1cspikes exactly! No Control inputs required by the pilot to maintain a flight attitude = auto trim for the laymen learning the system

    Hey man, I was a patreon sub for about 6 months and been a watcher of yours for years and still am. I will say I reached out to you in regards to training, and you reply back on Discord. I believe you were leaving out of town, which is what you stated in the message exchange. You advised me to contact you later on that week after you had gotten back to remind you. I waited a little over a week and more to before reaching back out. Then I reached out with a simply "hello sir" to set up a date and time. waited with no response. I then waited another week before I contacted you once more,again nothing. I am not going to keep bothering you as you probably get a lot of DM. I'm just disappointed I didn't do that perk. I could want and still need to learn the F-18, just an FYI. I did unsub from patreon, sorry man.
