BMD is the IFV of the paratroopers of the Russian Armed Forces - the elite VDV. It's air-dropped either alongside with the troops or with troops inside right from the start. BMD's are considerably better equipped in terms of firepower, than the BMP's of the mechanized infantry (the motostrelki, from the Wargame :) ) or the marines - because the VDV operate either behind enemy lines or on the flanks or in other places as per requirement of the current strategy - either way they operate where they are detached from the bulk of the force and can't be supported by MBT's. Along with the 30 mm 2A42 autocannon, BMD's have a 100-mm 2A70 smoothbore launcher-cannon, that shoots HE shells as well as ATGM missiles. BMD's are also more sophisticated machines in other equipment and mechanics. For example, BMD's have hydropneumatic suspension allowing it to change ground clearance by 40 cm in seconds, so it can either have a very low profile, allowing to be used covertly, and at the same time it can rise and shoot from behind higher obstacles/cover. BMD's come with a panoramic sight too. BMD's are obviously more expensive machines, than the BMP's. There are various modifications of it exist: artillery pieces (125 / 152 mm), tank-destroyer (125 mm), tank-destroyer (ATGM), AA variant, APC. All of which are air-droppable. The names of these machines: BMD - БМД - Боевая Машина Десанта - Fighting Vehicle of the Paratroopers - PFV BMP - БМП - Боевая Машина Пехоты - Fighting Vehicle of the Infantry - IFV

@@Steamthrower1 the 5 years is in regard of my life expectancy. I'll die earlier because of the rage I feel. 😂 I switch planes quite often and don't fly regularly enough so messing up the order of buttons happens.
16:06 Even BFV took itself more serious then 2042. I still remember soldiers in that game reacting to things in game. Like a American Marine yelling stuff like “And this is for everyone back home!” before eviscerating a type 97 with a bazooka.
The center of mass is usually fairly close to (and in front of) the landing gear for any plane. The further away it is the harder it can be to rotate on takeoff. So removing that gun it's not particularly surprising that the center of mass would move far enough back to be behind the landing gear.
A10C is probably the plane I enjoy and fly the most in DCS, and yet, I still learn something new everyday, like at 33:30 where you use the F10 aircraft map to then quickly set a markpoint on the TAD instead of having to type coordinates. How did you come up with that ? or what tutorial did you see it on ?
@@Steamthrower1 indeed, but I wasn't aware that the aircraft map could be displayed via F10, or just forgot about it as I always use Sat, or in some cases Alt

And then I'd walk on past to the base ATC. I miss those days. :)
The BMD was one of the design proposals from when the BMP was first getting made. The company that made the BMP prototype ended up loosing but continued on to make the BMD as we know it. the BMP and BMD serve a similar role as an IFV
Can’t wait until the Skyraider gets added to DCS. It’s arguably the most successful strike aircraft of all time. It got used in Korea and Vietnam. They used it for everything strike missions, Mid-air refueling, AWACS, Sidewinder testing, heli escort, troop transport, a toilet bomb, and even nuclear weapons. Later versions used the power plant from the B-29 and had a max payload of 8,000 Lbs (or 3,600Kg) while still being relatively small in comparison to aircraft used in similar roles. It could carry more ordinance than a B-17 with a wide variety of choices ranging from bombs, napalm, torpedos, mine dispensers, unguided rockets, and even the 20mm Vulcan Gunpods that were on the phantoms. It remains my favorite prop plane of all time for just how OP it was for a prop plane. They even got 2 Mig-17 kills with it. If you haven’t read up on the Skyraider it’s a must read. The most criminally underrated strike aircraft of all time IMO. Nobody ever talks about them and it makes me sad.

@@AlbandAquino being able to rtb is a bit pointless when the airframe is gone, better off bailing as you will be at less risk of crashing the thing on the landing run
On minute 40, your Sidewinders weren't working because you had to uncage them with TMS Up short. The little circle starts moving and once it gets a lock, you get a tone. Then weapons release and splash.
I've been playing for a while now, but it's really hard to find the ground enemies, especially when I'm playing without tags or them being on the map. Any suggestions?
Playing without tags on hoggit is a severe detriment, you'll be searching the whole eastern side of the map without them. Keep the markers on, and scan those areas typically within a mile and you'll find plenty of targets.
i think that someone already wrote about that, but BMDs are basically paratroopers BMPs (BMD - Боевая Машина Десанта - Paratrooper Fighting Vehicle, BMP - Боевая Машина Пехоты - IFV)
The BMD is a light ifv that is characterized by its light weight, fast speed, and excellent traverability. The BMP is a slow, armored fighting vehicle made for storming defensive positions, while the BMD is a fast in and out vehicle. Usually, it drops off troops during a storming operation, or it is used to storm the scattered positions of the enemy where they do not have any immediate means of retaliation. The idea is that a position is taken before artillery has the chance to respond.

39:42 To get the AIM-9s to lock the target, you must be on HUD SOI, press TMS Up to make them active search and auto lock. The Boresight Circle in the HUD will start spinning and it should get a solid lock when the missile sees the heat source. Then you're good to shoot them.
For a fraction of a second you can see that the landing gear lever is up at 37:15 and 37:21 then there is a cut in the video and at 37:28 you can see that the gear lever is down, so it probably got put down between cuts.
Bmp 1-3 is the standard AIFV the bmd 1-4 is a AIFV for airdrops. It has 5 wheels and the bmp 6. You also have a hacv airdrop with 7 wheels. It is called the sprutSD
Hey Drew! You were asking about the BMD series of IFV...so it is basically just a smaller BMP that is used by the VDV/Russian airborne forces, designed to fit in IL-76s and shit like that. For instance, the BMD-4 has a similar turret and armament to the BMP-3 (30mm and larger HE/missile launch tube), but on a smaller chassis. Also, there is the 2S25 Sprut-SDM, a Russian light tank that is not really in full production yet, but is really cool because it has the chassis of a BMD-4, but has the 125 autoloaded gun from the Russian main battle tanks. Sincerely, a War Thunder player lol

First paragraph of wikipedia for the BMD-1 "The BMD-1 is a Soviet airborne amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle, which was introduced in 1969 and first seen by the West in 1970. BMD stands for Boyevaya Mashina Desanta (Боевая Машина Десанта, which literally translates to "Combat Vehicle of the Airborne").[12] It can be dropped by parachute and although it resembles the BMP-1 it is in fact much smaller. The BMD-1 was used as an IFV by the Soviet Army's airborne divisions. An improved variant of the BMD-1 was developed, the BMD-2. The BMD-1 also provided a basis for the BTR-D airborne multi-purpose tracked APC."
BMPs are a bigger, heavier Infantry Fighting Vehicle and less strategically mobile than the BMD. BMDs are smaller, lighter, airborne capable, and are amphibious, but don't bring the same level of punch or have the same level of armor that the BMP does. Armored vehicles are trade-offs between various traits. You make it more armored and with heavier weaponry, you reduce its ability to be easily deployed. You make it lighter and more easily deployable and capable of getting to more places faster, you typically reduce its armor and armament. As such, militaries around the world tend to have a mix of lighter more strategically mobile vehicles, and heavier vehicles that bring more punch to the fight.

The names of these machines:
BMD - БМД - Боевая Машина Десанта - Fighting Vehicle of the Paratroopers - PFV
BMP - БМП - Боевая Машина Пехоты - Fighting Vehicle of the Infantry - IFV

4:50 Drew is explaining something that sounds super easy and convenient but has cost me at least 5 years of my life and 100 rage quits. The amount of time the Mavricks did not take the lock from my TGP make me cry 😅
I can never get them to take from my tgp. Always have to switch to them and manually lock it😂
It took you 5 years to do 4 hotas commands?
@@Acrophobia2 If you're slaving from tgp and can't pick, make sure it's dead on the vehicle or target. Then use china hat forward short to decrease fov, then tms forward short to lock and fire.
@@Steamthrower1 the 5 years is in regard of my life expectancy. I'll die earlier because of the rage I feel. 😂
I switch planes quite often and don't fly regularly enough so messing up the order of buttons happens.
@@Steamthrower1 I’ll have to try this thank you!

Even BFV took itself more serious then 2042. I still remember soldiers in that game reacting to things in game. Like a American Marine yelling stuff like “And this is for everyone back home!” before eviscerating a type 97 with a bazooka.
So first thing, you're an excellent sim pilot. Second thing, the boyscout trolling story is the funniest thing I've heard in a while. 🙂
And nvm right as I posted this you ejected into the dirt lol
The center of mass is usually fairly close to (and in front of) the landing gear for any plane. The further away it is the harder it can be to rotate on takeoff. So removing that gun it's not particularly surprising that the center of mass would move far enough back to be behind the landing gear.
A10C is probably the plane I enjoy and fly the most in DCS, and yet, I still learn something new everyday, like at 33:30 where you use the F10 aircraft map to then quickly set a markpoint on the TAD instead of having to type coordinates. How did you come up with that ? or what tutorial did you see it on ?
Common sense. Same map is shared, so you just have to remember the point on the map and mark it.
Ralfidude tutorial
@@Steamthrower1 indeed, but I wasn't aware that the aircraft map could be displayed via F10, or just forgot about it as I always use Sat, or in some cases Alt
7:02 the BMD is basicly a smaller lighter BMP for airdropping alongside paratroopers.
I’ve really been enjoying you and enigmas videos. Thank you for the content
I did the same thing in the F16 once and couldn't figure out why I couldn't shoot missiles until I was heading back to the barn and realized the landing gear was already down and locked for landing. And I didn't do it. Something else triggered them. Anyway, this video is so real to life. Stuff happens in the real world. Great video.
It's easy to fly the hornet at 140-150 without falling out of the sky
I think he forgot for a second the low speed AoA the hornet can pull. ;)
I mean, it would be funny to do it against the F-16, but you can expect the Hornet to just... Accommodate and still dokie you. ;)
You got me into dcs over a year ago and 800 dollars later in peripherals I still come back to watch your videos
Your DCS videos are always the best!
I used to be stationed at Spangdahlem AB in Germany, where my radio repar job in the UAF has me walk across flight lines where these very planes would pass me by about a hundred yards away, maybe within50 yards, and see A-10s roll on by tp take off.
Great for air to ground but without air cover, it’s food for enemy fighter aircraft
Drew you got all my respect bro
Your videos are just insane and plus full of good contents. You're a genuis buddy
That "wrong runway" part was so funny. I'm so glad you included it in the video
The skyraider is pretty awesome

Gotta love the speed and simplicity of the A-10A though
As a former Boy Scout and Eagle Scout, I love the story about you and your sis reenacting "All Ghillied Up" and sneaking around pranking scouts.
As one of the few planes built to "actually" protect its pilot, I've always loved the A10. 🥰
Protects the pilot until the enemy gets their hands on any AA post-1980s
@@asbestos1502 I'm not talking about the whole airframe. I'm talking about pilot survivability. And I would choose the A10 before any other plane.
The cockpit has actual armor. Up to .50 cal. At least it gives you the time and opportunity to bail out in the worst possible scenario... But I've heard a couple of stories about badly damaged A10 being able to RTB.
@@AlbandAquino being able to rtb is a bit pointless when the airframe is gone, better off bailing as you will be at less risk of crashing the thing on the landing run

Cross wind = exists
Drewski = side wind! :p
I was one of those SU-25’s, we were playing around. Just decided to get DCS. Was with my friend Toasty and some other dude that we met on a server.
The A10 tgp is high resolution but after coming from the av8b it might aswell be 720p vs 8k
Use you map more and rely more on the thermals, its hard but rewarding
Try out the Harrier, it's got a hotspot tracker on the HUD and shows you small chevrons, where ground targets might be.
Playing without tags on hoggit is a severe detriment, you'll be searching the whole eastern side of the map without them. Keep the markers on, and scan those areas typically within a mile and you'll find plenty of targets.
i think that someone already wrote about that, but BMDs are basically paratroopers BMPs (BMD - Боевая Машина Десанта - Paratrooper Fighting Vehicle, BMP - Боевая Машина Пехоты - IFV)
the a10 was a monster only for the friendly, the enemies where pretty safe
The BMD is a light ifv that is characterized by its light weight, fast speed, and excellent traverability. The BMP is a slow, armored fighting vehicle made for storming defensive positions, while the BMD is a fast in and out vehicle. Usually, it drops off troops during a storming operation, or it is used to storm the scattered positions of the enemy where they do not have any immediate means of retaliation. The idea is that a position is taken before artillery has the chance to respond.
Still waiting for a hind or Huey door gunner video.

god i love DCS, its expensive but that little interaction you had at the beginning is one of the biggest reasons why its such a great sim
I like how this dudes dcs videos have a viewership pool that's literally 400 times larger than the number of people who actually play the game per day.
If you log in on a busy day there's like 200 simmers online at a time.
I love when you talk to people through comms, it is so cool idk why T-T. Keep up the great work! ❤❤
39:42 To get the AIM-9s to lock the target, you must be on HUD SOI, press TMS Up to make them active search and auto lock. The Boresight Circle in the HUD will start spinning and it should get a solid lock when the missile sees the heat source. Then you're good to shoot them.
Gotta love the A-10, always happy when you drop a new video :)

This is a hell of a video to fall asleep to in the middle of the day in a car on your wait to Florida on a trip
Operator Drewski flying comfortably in his A-10 when the radio comms starts playing 'Fortunate Son', the usual when you're out on a relaxed support run he thinks as he puts on his aviator sunglasses... "Time to throttle down".
*Lighting a cigar he sits back & checks the beautiful skies, turning to see his tail struggling to cruise along...
Thinking to himself in a laughing tone as he watches the tail sweat behind him "ah I love the feeling of a cruising brrr gun in the mornings".
*Breaking a pent up chuckle he puffs his cigar before re-checking his instruments & ever so slightly pulls back on the stick...
Continuing to climb at a steady pace he sits back, smoking his cigar comfortably, looking up at the clouds.
Hey drewski, I have been watching your vids for a long time and have wanted to play dcs for a while. I have recently ordered a pc and I just wanted to say thank you for making all these cool videos. Keep it up man.
the difference between the Tunguska and the Shilka is the turret. If you see one that looks like it has a rack on the side of the turret you better pray because that the Tunguska. But if it looks like its just a box with a plate on the top of it then its a Shilka. Hope this helps.
Chassis is also different between the two, Tunguska uses the GM-352 or GM-352M chassis, while Shilka uses the GM-575 based on the PT-76.
The best part of this video is the stories of gaslighting Boy Scouts XD

Man, you just hit the nail on the head with that rant about BF 2042 and how they went from BF1 greatness to that unrealistic garbage in 2042.
First paragraph of wikipedia for the BMD-1
"The BMD-1 is a Soviet airborne amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle, which was introduced in 1969 and first seen by the West in 1970.
