    Sega or Nintendo, which version is your favorite?

    • @ggarzagarcia

      SNES, overall.
      More smooth backgrounds, colors are more defined and richer, sprite movement is better, sprite poses are correct from arcade, sounds are more akin to the arcade.
      MD/GEN had better sprite definition, more shadows, blood.
      It’s all about pros and cons. The Sega version was overall more received because of blood and fatalities, but performance wise, Nintendo overall did the job.

    I remember the color of the SNES version being just massively better than the Genesis one. But looking at this comparison, the difference is significant but maybe not that big of a deal. Could have been the much higher quality of the composite output on the SNES?

    • @HumorousLOL
      @HumorousLOL Год назад +1

      This has nothing to do with output, it has to do with pure hardware capability. The main detail to look at are the Sub-Zero sprites in both games. The Genesis port borrowed the Scorpion sprite set because it did not have the RAM to utilize a completely different animation set for Sub-Zero. Then, you look at the frames of animation. This was likely all to do with RAM, as the SNES has SIGNIFICANTLY more animation frames per character. Color is of course far more accurate on SNES, due to a larger color palette. Sound is overall better and more accurate on SNES as well.

    • @Holothurion
      @Holothurion 8 дней назад +2

      @@HumorousLOL It not about the RAM, but rather the available space in the cartridge. In the Sega version many frames were sacrificed in favor of other graphics such as Goro from the intro and the fighters' bios and endings.

    • @HumorousLOL
      @HumorousLOL 8 дней назад

      @@Holothurion Not true. Cart space had very Iittle to do with it. If that was the case, the MK2 games on both consoles would have looked and sounded identical, and SNES beats Genesis in that game as well; they were both about the same cart size.

    • @Holothurion
      @Holothurion 8 дней назад +2

      @@HumorousLOL Did you even read what I wrote? Yes, they are around the same size, but they used the space for different things, one version opting for more frames, while the other went for graphics regarding the presentation. RAM was not a problem in this case as, besides not being on screen at the same time, other fighting games have more frames in the MD/GEN version than in their SNES one.

    • @HumorousLOL
      @HumorousLOL 7 дней назад

      @@Holothurion Dude, are you really that dense? The sheer amount of differences between the two versions have little to do with cart space. It is literally the hardware that separates the two. If you honestly think the Genesis can look as good as the SNES version, you're out of your mind. The SNES beats the Genesis in animation frames, color palette, sprite count, overall presentation, and sound. You really think that's because of cart space? You can look at almost every port of any of the same game - the SNES almost always beats the Genesis in the graphical department. Unless the MD was using a significantly smaller cart than the SNES, how would space make the MD version look worse? Please name me a fighting game where there are more animation frames in the MD version than the SNES version that is due to cart space differences. This more often than not has to do with the developer coding, not the space on the cart.

      That's bullshit. Genesis was the far more capable console thanks to the blast processor. Nintendo fanboys claim the SNES could display 32,768 colors, but that's a lie from Nintendo as that many colors don't even exist. There's red, green, blue, black, white, grey, pink, orange, etc. along with some variants of those colors.

    The SNES was an objectively better conversion. People who have low IQs say the genesis version is better BeCauSe BLooD.. no. If you look at it from a techncial aspect, the SNES is clearly superior in sound, sprite detail and animation, as well as presentation. The only 2 things that kept it from being truly successful are the input lag, which is a huge oversight from the devs, and the lack of blood, which was not due to technical limitations, but Nintendo's boneheaded, strict family oriented software policy which prevented the devs from adding mature content to the game - which was thankfully corrected in MK2, making that the best version of the home ports by far overall. The SNES could have made a near arcade perfect port from a technical side. The Genesis could not.

    • @RetroGamesBoy78
      @RetroGamesBoy78 10 месяцев назад

      The Snes version is a fairly faithful port of the Arcade in terms of visuals and sound, but the gameplay on the other hand is not, it's been messed about with, those flying kicks are different from the arcade and this completely changes how the game plays.
      The Mega Drive version was far closer in terms of gameplay, and if you hold the 2 versions side by side to the arcade you realise just how much other stuff is missing from the Snes port but is included in the Mega Drive version.

    • @HumorousLOL
      @HumorousLOL 10 месяцев назад

      @@RetroGamesBoy78 I am not talking about the gameplay. That could EASILY be fixed with tweaks. I am talking about the potential for a neer perfect arcade port. The Genesis could never have done that. It doesn't have the hardware for it.

      @@HumorousLOL
      With stock hardware there is no chance the SNES could replicate MK1's arcade graphics, even the Saturn and PS1 couldn't quite pull off the graphics of MK2, but maybe in the right hands they might have, but those two machines would certainly be able to pull off an arcade perfect port of MK1, but the 16bit SNES?, I mean done correctly it would be a port I'd love to get my hands on for sure, but as cool as that would be, it certainly wouldn't be graphically as close to arcade as you're thinking it might.

    • @HumorousLOL
      @HumorousLOL 10 месяцев назад

      @@RetroGamesBoy78 It literally already did, genius. The SNES will never fully replicate it, but it comes pretty damn close already. I never said replicate, I said near perfect arcade port. The main issue is resolution, as graphically, the animations and sprites look as close to arcade as possible on SNES. As I said, the gameplay is easily fixed, which wasn't a hardware limitation, and the blood could also be added, as that was an issue with Nintendo censorship. Graphically, the SNES port is something the Genesis could never hope to achieve.

    • @RetroGamesBoy78
      @RetroGamesBoy78 9 месяцев назад

      @@HumorousLOL put the Snes version next to the Arcade and then honestly say it's "pretty damn close", closer than the Mega Drive in many respects, but still a long way off as a matter of fact, and the amount of stuff that's missing from the Snes port is incredible too. For instance, the Mega Drive has 22 digitised pictures that the Snes doesn't have, how many frames of animation or sound effects might that have cost?
      The recent hack of the Mega Drive version using a 32meg cart is now basically the full arcade experience in 16 bit form, even better than the Mega Cd port.
