It’s all about the chemistry Joe and Dave have. Their jokes really make the show.
Love how the Dave appearance was just a cold open; no obnoxious thumbnail, no corny "You thought you could do this without me huh?" skit, just a straight send right into the show, you gotta respect it.
Solo Sack is mighty fine in its own right, but you can't deny the charm of two genuine pals' chemistry. Quality stuff.
Yeah they save their shitty skits til the end. Mad respect props
Yeah, unlike other channel out there
Exactly what I've been saying. They are both amazing consoles. Sadly Genesis gets overlooked a lot in the US and most prefer SNES. I've always loved both. Great video dudes.
Europe and Brazil, SNES gets overlooked! Most people there prefer Genesis.
Both are great, but people commit the same mistake as when comparing the PS3 to X360. Yes, Genesis has some good "numbers", like the "super duper" Cell processor on PS3. But the Snes, as the x360, do better the important stuff that affects the end result on the screen. That's why Snes and X360, generally, shown better graphics.
For example: Genesis CPU clock is double of the Snes. But this doesn't mean that the Snes clock is not enough for 16 bit games. Yes, when developers don't trim their codes, Snes games can have lot's of Slowdown (Gradius 3, someone?). But when the programers do their work, the Snes is capable of running games fast too (look at Samus running with Speed boots on Super Metroid). And because Snes can do much more colors, in the end, the games ended looking better.
About the special chips on Snes cartridge, it doesn't matter if they are "cheating", in the end of the day, it gave better looking games for Snes owners, that's what matter. And it's not like the console itself was not made with this in mind: the catridge slot on the console has the extended space for it, so it was planned before the console release, so, keep in mind it's part of the whole idea of the console. Too bad for sega, they didn't have the vision that Nintendo had. I don't remember cartridges with special chips costing more, maybe only the cartridges with the Super FX chip? The only case I remember, is Virtua Racing for genesis, that cartridge is a disaster: big, expensive, and running very bad a not so good game.
Snes gets more love in the U.S. because Nintendo and all their IP's are still relevant. If Sega's Genesis era IP's had any relevancy outside of Sonic it would be a different story. Now it's a little redicoulous when we get into the revisionist history stuff that seems to circulate.
@Rotten to the Core Not in a lifetime!
@Rotten to the Core In Europe, everyone preferred the Mega Drive/ Genesis!
ITS SO GOOD TO SEE DAVE AGAIN EVEN IF FOR JUST A ONE OFF

I really needed this episode after this depressing year. It feels so nostalgic and comforting with you two together.
I think I was too down in the dumps at the time of release to watch this, so I kept putting it off. This weekend hit the right moment of needing something new from GameSack to watch and I did!
Seeing Dave and Joe bickering over SNES vs Genesis is never getting old, we all who lived through 16-bit know the debate will never end.
I love both, I have no hate over one to another because the experience they gave were different and completed each other. Though I have to admit, if we talk about competition, the release of Donkey Kong Country was the turning point.
Anyway, glad to see Dave back for this episode, this bickering is manifestation of us, hehehe
Good to see ya Dave. Us SNES ers need u.
Aye, being a Sega "Fanboy" I was all about the Mega Drive. But even in the 90s I still appreciated the Super NES.
There were some weekends where me and my close friend (A Nintendo Fanboy) will swap consoles, so we get to experience the other formats games.
They are both excellent machines with a good share of heavy hitters. And the same can be said today with modern consoles.
If only the same could be said about the the recent few generations of consoles. Really, besides the odd exclusive game or two that realistically either side could run theres no difference between the two.
@@cmelft2463 this is actually true. I was going to say back then there were huge differences to deal with between the consoles.
The PS3 was the last "True" console with its dedicated hardware designed for purpose.
Since then they are glorified PCs running same or very similar hardware just with a different OS.
Which is why it's pointless arguing over which one is best. Just buy the one that has the games you want to play the most.
"I love both, I have no hate over one to another..." , I thought you were talking about Joe and Dave for a sec .
Dave!!!!!! So glad to see you buddy, I really hope you make it to the inevitable episode 300 special. Such a great show, you guys deserve all the accolades. Joe, your video skills have raised the bar of the RUclips community and you never disappoint. Keep rocking and thanks for the years of superb content!
Episode 300 will likely be a normal episode.
@@GameSack still will be 100 times better than any other youtubers 300th video.
RUclips is literally just the Game Sack channel for me, all the other stuff are just the supporting content.
I wouldn't want to live in a world without either of these, they're both perfect in their own way.
So this is what all those Console Crunches were leading up to. A show off between Sega and Nintendo, and a triumph cameo from Dave!
The editing has always been top notch, but I sincerely believe that Joe sold his soul to the devil for this level of editing. Also, nice seeing Dave again.
Huh my mom had it right all those years ago when she called my system the Sega Nintendo.
Lol
That's actually kinda what the Game Boy Advance was, it was a crossover project between Nintendo and Sega
That's why it has both Mario Bros. AND Sonic the Hedgehog games
I bet that Dave was just hiding in Joe's closet waiting for the perfect chance.
He was or busboy stealing joes games
He's still trying to get his Harvest Moon back
It's so good to see you two together again for this episode. Can't do a Genesis vs SNES episode without both you and Dave.
Genesis was out 2 years before the snes. Crazy to think about.
Because NES was still killin’ it.
Not really, Amiga 1000 and Atari st both with the same 16bit cpu came out in 1985
I'm surprised that Dave didn't steal Joe's Snatcher game again at the end.
Don't worry. I'm sure it was already in his car.
He doesn't have any more copies to steal.
@@HunterAtheist Dave has cornered the world's supply via Joe
I'm surprised how much Snatcher is going for on ebay these days...I bought a copy off ebay a few years ago and I paid a ridiculous amount...now it goes for an even ridiculous-er amount. $700 - $2,000...f'ing ridick.
@@Tom_Van_Zandt I reme8years and years and years ago $100 was a crazy price for snatcher. Man I should have been buying the game up back then.
Happy to see Dave again for a guest appearance. The dynamic between the two is as good as ever and GameSack still one of the best shows on RUclips! Keep up the good work.
The rivalry of the 16-bit never gets old. Loved both consoles, though I'm more familiar with the SNES.
The Genesis is a little cooler since it has no rotation/scaling FX and everything of that nature is done by clever Coding, while the SNES has more impressive
graphics/FX but they are standard on the Hardware so its more "mundane" than on Genesis
Laugh all you want, Tommy Lasorda Baseball is a damn solid baseball game. My bro and I used a razor to open it up as a Christmas package wrapped in our parents closet. We played it one glorious afternoon when they were gone, then sealed it back up with a new piece of transparent tape that would never be noticed. Hopefully.
Yeah, we had to scrap the shrink wrap that surrounded the game, but we gambled that in the moment of presents being unwrapped, and paper flying everywhere, no on would notice.
No one did.
Don't forget about sports talk baseball
TLB was the shit! It was really a fine substitution to BaseBall Stars if you didn’t have $600 Console +$150 Game for a NeoGeo
I think the World Series baseball games were the best on the Genesis
It was one hell of a war for those of us OG’s who lived it. And it went on for years.
It was great times tho!
I defended my genesis to the death.
44 years young! I started my gaming almost 40 years ago with the Atari 2600 lol. wow how time flies! Great video, truly enjoyed it!
@@thejoker-wu1sp I defended my SNES but always secretly envied the 7.6 MHz processor on the Sega. Sonic and Echo, etc. type games were just so fast. Blast Processing was an effective ad slogan that the SNES fanboys had no defense against.
By the time these consoles came out...my parents were kind enough to get us both systems for Christmas.
That's fricken awesome. Lucky!
DAVE IS BACK!
I think it is safe to say, "Dave we missed you."
These two systems represent such bad ass memories for me. Obviously, both systems have their bread/butter and things they do better than the other, but back in those days games had soul. They had characters and story lines that mattered. I'm still waiting for a Castlevania game as good as the SNES version or Bloodlines.
I love how the bitterness towards their opposing consoles escalates as the episode goes on! Hilarious 😂
In the 90's this was politics on the school playground.

@@BobBobOnRUclips You don't think maybe the problem is you're using a laptop do you? Gaming laptops frankly are no better than consoles.
I doubt Dave is back for the long haul but I love seeing that you guys are both still friends. I think it would break everyone's heart otherwise. Thanks for hanging out again for a minute, Dave. Also, thanks for being the cornerstone of retro game analytics, Joe.
Beyond just Splatterhouse don't sleep on the rest of Namco's Genesis library. The Rolling Thunder games are fantastic. Namco didn't have the greatest relationship with Nintendo at the time and most of their games went to competing consoles like the Genesis/MD and TG-16/PC-Engine. Anyway the war is long over and if you refuse to play Genesis games because you're a Nintendo fan or refuse to play SNES games because you're a Sega fan the only one who loses is you. They're two halves of a whole (or less, don't forget the PC-Engine) that made up one of the most interesting eras in the evolution of games.
So why didn't Tales of Phantasia come out on the Genesis then?
Straight up the best generation of consoles ever. I don't even really think it's all that close. Every genre was represented perfectly and there was such a crazy amount of innovation with gameplay and mechanics.
Had all 3, Genesis, SNES, and Turbo Grafx 16. All three to me were great. It was a great time for consoles.
@Jinxed Swashbuckler Wrong, SNES fighters and sidescrollers were slow and clunky.
Welcome back Dave! Even if it is only for an episode.

I'm astonished that you've never done this one before.
Of course Dave had to return for this most epic of Vs battles.
Such a timeless argument 😊. When millenia have passed and mankind has seeded itself among the stars and evolved into pure energy, these etherial beings will still be calling each other twats for liking one console or the other.
The Genesis is more of an Open Source machine where coders can either use the hardware smartly or stupidly (which makes it more impressive when they succeed)
and the SNES is just generally more powerful but less flexible
The return of the Dave! Finally, something good from 2020!
The chemistry makes the show, Dave come back!
The Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo are both great because they were part of the 16-bit era.
I don't care which system was better...
Neo Geo whipped both of their asses, the only downside being how damn expensive it was
@Anthony Cook Um, no? Neo Geo had superior hardware, firmware, software, coding, and even physical durability. The only two things that the SMD and SNES had better was that they weren't overly expensive and that they were available in multiple countries. NG was only available in America, and maybe even Japan. If you don't believe me, look it the hell up.

@@AltimaNEO Probably me
Anyone: I think the Genesis is pretty alright
Dave: So you have chosen death
Been watching the vids since 2013 so I couldnt be happier with Dave back for this one. ❤
The problem the Genesis had was that a lot of developers didn't know how to use the color palette or sound chip properly. so a lot of games don't look so nice or sound so good as they could have.
Maybe American and British developers couldnt develop for the console properly.
However, theres no excuse for Japanese game developers. Most Japanese computers used a Yamaha sound chip, and quite a few computers used a Motorola 68000.
Most Japanese game developers owned a Sharp X68000 (it was only released in Japan) and used it specifically to develop games and to take the hardware and customize it for use in arcade hardware.
Sega itself used the X68000 and watered down the specs to make it into an affordable console (not too many people could afford a $3000 computer in 1989). The most expensive part for the Genesis was the Motorola 68000, and even then, it was slightly slower than a Sharp X68000. Even the sound chip (the YM2612) was 6 channels and had its own Digital/Analog converter built into the chip, where the X68000 used a YM2151, which had 8 audio channels, and required an independent chip to process the Digital/analog converter (a YM3012). It may seem odd to require a second chip to convert the audio when one does both, but listen to Japanese developed arcade games, as many arcade systems also used a YM2151, youll hear the difference.
hell yes. daves back. this is the only good thing that happened in 2020.
Your comment is the only truthfull thing in a year full of bullshit and lies.
