Great video! The only thing I'd add just for the heck of it is that the SNES version is missing some animation frames. For example in Cyrax's self-destruction fatality there are less frames of movement than in the Genesis version. Also the Genesis version wins because they modded it into Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy and that game is amazing
@Captain Kirk Actually they do A LOT of research before EVERY episode, I can vouch for that personally. This was more of a side note that I notice. In fact there are MANY things I didn't know about both versions myself. For example, I didn't know about Shang Tsung's transformations in the Genesis versions or how Smoke and Noob have Brutalities and Babalities in the SNES version. This is not information that is easy to come by and the fact this was in the video was an eye opener. Things fall through the cracks all the time, instead of complaining what there isn't in the video, appreciate what we did get.

I was impressed back in the day how close they had gotten graphically with the Sega version to the Super Nintendo version by MK3 and UMK3 since the first and second games. It makes me wonder how much if at all they were pushing the Super Nintendo.
I like the Super Nintendo version better because of the better graphics and better audio (and better controllers), but it's a close call, because of the missing levels!
PEOPLE.ASKED.FOR.THIS.FOR.YEARS. Thank You! P.S. Bit disappointed you went for Ultimate instead of the Classic MK3 (both these consoles obviously weren't able to handle UMK3). P.P.S. Sad that Greg wasn't able to be a part of this.

If we're comparing the number of channels, definitely SNES (8 VS 6). I was told by another user that the Genesis could do 10 channels when using the Power Base Converter but we're talking vanilla.
Carlo Nassar You don't have to use the Power Base converter to get those 4 extra channels, although those 4 extra channels are just the psg from the Master System.
@@HP-pg5vg What I typed was info I exactly saw from another user and it's not like I said that the Power Base Converter was required. My point was that I was comparing the number of channels that each system already had without any extensions/add-ons.
Carlo Nassar Yes, I know. I was just saying that the Megadrive has 10 sound channels and it doesn't need extra hardware to utilise those channels. I wasn't trying to argue with you.
Totally agree! People rag on the Genesis DAC for sounding scratchy here and there with the vocals the overall sound is much more clear and bassy than what the SNES could do. I love the SPC but it sounded too muffled and compressed for my liking.
Finally (U)MK3 episode! But i have to point out a few things Yea, SNES have might more colorful graphics and more details on some stages, but SEGA is Higher resolution + the character sprites are higher def too and do contain more frames than the SNES. The 8 player tournament mode cheat was present on vanilla MK3 SEGA port as well and i'm pretty sure i saw this cheat on UMK3 SEGA, but i am not quite sure The gameplay is butter smooth on SEGA as well, unlike the SNES wich has input lag (it's not really bad, but you do notice it) A track wich is missing entirely from the SEGA ports but avalible on the SNES version of (U)MK3 is the Shao Kahn's defeat theme (wich is the main menu theme of MK3 on PS1 and PC, but it exists on the arcade as well) And for the voice sample, the SNES has voice samples wich are lacking from the SEGA version - Liu Kang has more voice samples on SNES, the cyborg robots as well, and when you defeat Shao Kahn, you hear him screaming just like in the arcade, unlike SEGA wich reuses one of his soundbytes. Anyway, great episode!
SNES is still better as Sega Genesis has ruined it's looks in presentations with the FINISH HIM and sound effects that you get from the SNES version I was always disappointed with each Mortal Kombat game on Sega Genesis which they didn't bother getting the best color graphics after the first Mortal Kombat game I thought that Sega had more time to get everything done right for Mortal Kombat 2 and UMK3 for Sega Genesis But they failed to deliver a more impressive performance than the SNES to get better color graphics and better look to the games

SNES UMK3 is still better than Sega Genesis. Cause I have to also include the controller for the systems too, to pick which is the most comfortable when playing fighting games like UMK3. To me the SNES controller is more comfortable than the Sega Genesis controllers.
@@the757general2 Maybe I don't want to to know much about the Sega Genesis. My opinion is more valid enough for commenting. BOTH those version were showing that the lives of those consoles were nearing their end. Neither system could muster out enough power for their respective versions to match up well. To me, this is where a lot of people started to go into the 32 bit realm, and this game showed why it was time to retire 16 bit. I hope that at some point you will be able to look at some 32/64-bit games. All you need is someone to be a Playstation guy and you'll be in business. This could be screaming for a Mortal Kombat Trilogy comparison between N64 and PS1 versions, or even Mortal Kombat 4. I would love for a triangle contest of consoles on something that came out on Saturn, N64, and PS1, too.
Already commented but I came up with some other suggestions Capcom (snes games) vs sega with -Golden axe vs Magic sword -Golden axe 2 vs King of dragons -Golden axe 3 vs Knights of the round Also Donkey Kong Country 3 vs Sonic 3D Blast, the theme being that each are sort of a black sheep in their respective series 16-bit era
Sonic 3D is garbage. That's why it's the black sheep. Nobody wants that heap of shit, and you can find a copy of it in any retro game store for like $2 dollars or less.

To me in all fighting games the Sega Genesis is much better because it has the six button controller and I know you have to buy it. Doesn't come with the console but I rather have the option to buy something better then to be stuck with a controller that is extremely basic and it has an uncomfortable d-pad. That ending was hilarious. Great job, guys.
Thanks!
Also, you’re trying to rely on an NJTransit train to come on time. Bad idea!
The actor playing Sub-Zero, whoever they are, will in future episodes be billed as "Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated" I have a feeling. A powerful performance.
If you look really closely you can see its Pat, his powerful performance even obscured his identity from you.
Maybe he doesn't
Just make sure not to make fun of him, or he’ll teach you a lesson and freeze your dog
Can we talk about how "Sub's Heroes" is brilliant and just completely glossed over.
I'm sure there's small things I missed. I didn't know the trilogy thing. That's cool.
I checked a ton of website. Not one mentioned the trilogy thing. @Captain Kirk
@Captain Kirk glad to see the art of conversation is still alive.
Captain Kirk Wow. Talk about "polite"... The very fact you even like your own comments soildifies the fact your support on those comments are completely artificial and that no one actually likes what you're saying.
Also, emojis. Need I say more?
Great episode! Been waiting so long for this! I hope the other guy is okay.
It's too bad the Genesis version didn't use the highlight/shadow technique to get more colors.
You have to use shadow/highlight in very specific scenarios. It's not just a magic fix all for the lack of on screen colors.
Hah, you two work so well together.
Does anyone have a running tally? Which system has more wins under their belt thus far?
Was thinking if you could upgrade your video feeds coming from analogue’s consoles (super nt and md)
They should be displayed the way most would have it back in the day
They would, but they're not getting free consoles left and right like all the RUclipsrs who review those consoles. So, original hardware it is.
John Nada
They not super expensive, not like the Mini Nt. Honestly, the analogue Consoles are not dramatically improved by any means, they are essentially reference quality.

Woow! Waited long time for a new episode! Glad its here!

Hope you enjoyed it!

Its a great ep loved it
Damn that sucks
I was impressed back in the day how close they had gotten graphically with the Sega version to the Super Nintendo version by MK3 and UMK3 since the first and second games. It makes me wonder how much if at all they were pushing the Super Nintendo.
I like the Super Nintendo version better because of the better graphics and better audio (and better controllers), but it's a close call, because of the missing levels!
snes version looks better sega version have horrible graphics looks fuzzy snes looks better but it have too much bugs and glicthes
That ending is the best one yet. I love all that editing.
Even I knew it was a tough call for which version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was better. Both versions have their ups and downs.
It was tough. The winner changed a couple of times. First Sega won, the SNES, then Sega again. Tough indeed.
Sega wins!
7:08 where's kitana in the genesis version lol
She drops in at a different time during the cast sequence because they can only display 2 characters at once on Sega. 64 color pallet limitations.
What do you mean they aren't able to handle it? They are more than capable as shown in the video.. wtf
@@Blehstor both inferior to the arcade version
ARE YOU KIDDING?? SNES has a far superior chip in this case...I mean I love FM music and the Streets of Rage series has some of my fav music of all time, game or not. But it's clearly SNES in this case. They could actually sample the original instruments from the Arcade...
If we're comparing the number of channels, definitely SNES (8 VS 6). I was told by another user that the Genesis could do 10 channels when using the Power Base Converter but we're talking vanilla.
Brandon Ramos Yes, music and graphics are SNES, but the gameplay closer to the arcade is on the version for Sega Genesis. and that is a fact.
I like the voiceovers better on Genesis. Moreover the sound quality is much better on Genesis which is missing in the review.
Totally agree! People rag on the Genesis DAC for sounding scratchy here and there with the vocals the overall sound is much more clear and bassy than what the SNES could do. I love the SPC but it sounded too muffled and compressed for my liking.
The music sounds like ass on Sega Genesis.
still it sound better than muffled shit from SNES
OLD Denton anything on the genesis typically sounds shittier
I have both systems
Oohoho
I may be late, but this fits my MK binge perfectly! Thank you for another great video!
"it's a good change". I caught that. Love it !!!!!!
Honestly the way you acted out Sub Zero was fuckn epic.
Bart’s Nightmare is not a good game. It is a which is worse episode?
SEGA version has more stages or has 3 stage fatalities.
Not sure yet.
Sub-Zero Mortal Kombat Is Bullshit 6430Ryu
Okay 🤨?
lol Yeah probably!
On SEGA i'am the left and the Classic Sub-Zero isn't right and on Super Nintendo i'am on the right and the Classic Sub-Zero isn't the left.
On CRT TV graphics literally the same, thanks to dithering.
Finally (U)MK3 episode!
But i have to point out a few things
Yea, SNES have might more colorful graphics and more details on some stages, but SEGA is Higher resolution + the character sprites are higher def too and do contain more frames than the SNES.
The 8 player tournament mode cheat was present on vanilla MK3 SEGA port as well and i'm pretty sure i saw this cheat on UMK3 SEGA, but i am not quite sure
The gameplay is butter smooth on SEGA as well, unlike the SNES wich has input lag (it's not really bad, but you do notice it)
A track wich is missing entirely from the SEGA ports but avalible on the SNES version of (U)MK3 is the Shao Kahn's defeat theme (wich is the main menu theme of MK3 on PS1 and PC, but it exists on the arcade as well)
And for the voice sample, the SNES has voice samples wich are lacking from the SEGA version - Liu Kang has more voice samples on SNES, the cyborg robots as well, and when you defeat Shao Kahn, you hear him screaming just like in the arcade, unlike SEGA wich reuses one of his soundbytes.
Anyway, great episode!
Or you know , you can just play UMKT Hack
SNES is still better as Sega Genesis has ruined it's looks in presentations with the FINISH HIM and sound effects that you get from the SNES version
I was always disappointed with each Mortal Kombat game on Sega Genesis which they didn't bother getting the best color graphics after the first Mortal Kombat game
I thought that Sega had more time to get everything done right for
Mortal Kombat 2 and UMK3 for Sega Genesis
But they failed to deliver a more impressive performance than the SNES to get better color graphics and better look to the games
@@bazzerker35s the game was ported by the same developer (Sculptured Software) and they did pretty good job for both but SEGA is much closer to the arcade.
@@kamenstoychev8375 I don't believe it at all
If Sega had better color graphics and presentation to everything that Super Nintendo had then Sega
Then it would of been better but to be honest I never liked any of the Mortal Kombat games on Sega Genesis as they looked so different compared to the Super Nintendo
The only flaw that Sega Genesis had was the first Mortal Kombat game to have a blood code for the actual fatalities
@@bazzerker35s agreed
Greg will always be missed, but pat is really starting to fit in with the show!
Where did he go?
Greg left the show. I don't know the details behind it, unfortunately.

My nostalgia for the Sega version of UMK3 gets to win the day!!
My deepest condolences for you guys if Bart’s Nightmare is next on the docket 😬😬
SNES UMK3 is still better than Sega Genesis. Cause I have to also include the controller for the systems too, to pick which is the most comfortable when playing fighting games like UMK3.
To me the SNES controller is more comfortable than the Sega Genesis controllers.
@ben owen Whatever, but there's far more better games on SNES than Sega. That's for damn sure!
@@bazzerker35s That's an opinion. You probably don't know enough about the Genesis to have a valid opinion
@@the757general2 Maybe I don't want to to know much about the Sega Genesis. My opinion is more valid enough for commenting. I've played enough SNES games to know that it's more worth it than the Sega Genesis.
I don't really care about the extra stuff they have on Sega Genesis. The quality look of the game is more important than the extra stuff in the game and the presentation.
@@bazzerker35s If you don't know anything about the Genesis then your opinion is shit. Plain and simple.,

I heard both MK3 and UMK3 have a bit of input delay on snes, I dont know if this is true
Well, yes.
All of the MK games on SNES have input delays. The Genesis versions always play smoother.
There’s no input lag! That’s just Sega fanboys being fanboys.
@@matrixman7706 I tested, there is input lag
Why did they show armageddon on PS2?
This was an awesome episode guys. I really enjoyed it.
Actually they could do a Nintendo V Sega for MKT cuz MKT is on Saturn.
Now for MK4 they have to do 64 V PS1, cuz 64 MK4 going up against MKG on Dreamcast wouldn’t be a fair comparison.
Love me some console wars. Wish it came on every week.
If we didn't have day jobs maybe.
I never say ''Sega Genesis'' anymore, I only say ''Sayguhh Genuuhsiss'' lol
Flawless ending!!! UMK3 for SEGA GENESIS was my favourite game ever! Great video!!! 💪👏
This is the closes console war battle I have seen. Thought it was awesome. You two guys have a great groove with these videos.
Already commented but I came up with some other suggestions
Capcom (snes games) vs sega with
-Golden axe vs Magic sword
-Golden axe 2 vs King of dragons
-Golden axe 3 vs Knights of the round
Also Donkey Kong Country 3 vs Sonic 3D Blast, the theme being that each are sort of a black sheep in their respective series 16-bit era
Donkey Kong Country 3 awesome idea
Sonic 3D is garbage. That's why it's the black sheep. Nobody wants that heap of shit, and you can find a copy of it in any retro game store for like $2 dollars or less.
Great video 👍👍👍
In some future, it will be awesome if you can do Mortal Kombat 3 SNES vs Sega Genesis.
Hey guys, I’ve just had a brilliant idea! An *ACTION 52* episode of Console Wars!
*THE WORST VERSION OF ACTION 52!*
Please do it, that’d be so awesome! Action 52 has a NES version, and a Genesis/Mega Drive version. There was going to be a SNES version, but it got mercifully cancelled.
Action 52 on NES is like 100x worse. Mega Drive version isn't completely broken for one thing
14:20 Courage the Cowardly Dog Laugh! Anybody notice this or not??? XD
To me in all fighting games the Sega Genesis is much better because it has the six button controller and I know you have to buy it. Doesn't come with the console but I rather have the option to buy something better then to be stuck with a controller that is extremely basic and it has an uncomfortable d-pad. Also the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat is faster and that makes it very intense
Woah! Console Wars? I haven’t seen these videos in years! RUclips recommended is bringing me some major nostalgia. Glad to see you guys are still active.
*Insert character*

Why does Sub Zero look like Aladdin?
The SNES has better music. I love Sega's FM Synth but it doesn't have the instrumentation and thump that the SNES version has.
I'd say it's more of a tie, but the tie breaker is Super nes's has a way better controler, and it's hard to not norice the better sound, and graphics on the Snes.
I recall doing the ULTIMATE MK 3 subway fatality in the SNES game or am I thinking the original MK 3??
That particular stage fatality was in the original MK3 game. Unfortunately,it was taken out of UMK3,because of memory limitations for the 16 bit console ports.
@@Donscottmusic I always found it funny how the sprites would just stand right up just the train would hit them and we'd hear that hysterical "Oow!".
