Not really.. The snes is as good as the 32x not much difference. Not worth burying another console for a game that's about the same. Do sparkster bs rocket knight
It is worth it (but Super Nintendo is still better in my opinion) & actually buying the Sega 32X was worth it, primarily for the game. There are a few improvements over Sega Genesis, but not a whole lot (especially music wise). I do also have Sega CD (which like Sega 32X wasn't cheap & had to be ordered online) which has it's own version of Mortal Kombat 1 that's even bloodier than even the original Arcade game.
There’s absolutely no comparison. Probe did a horrendous job with this game on the Genesis. It’s unforgivably bad. Sculptured knocked it out of the park on SNES. Just absolutely crushed it!!
I was lucky to own both of these versions as a kiddo. The SNES version was superior, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the Genesis version music better. Great video, CW. :)
I agree with the verdict, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Genesis version, it's the version I grew up with, and that Matt Furniss soundtrack is awesome, I don't care what anyone says.
Actually, Im glad, that Sega doen´t have the Liu Kang sounds ^^ . The musicial quality, the basses, are more suitable to MK 2 in my opinion. Overall, coming to presentation, I agree with SNES´ victory. But for me, music is more important and Sega also did a better job with the sound effects, they´ve put in, so.. I´ll stick with Sega :) . Also the controller is better for fighting games.
6:15 it makes sense to reuse this level because the fight is supposed to be happening in Earthrealm. The entirety of MK2's stages are based in Outworld
Finally!!!!! A video with reasonable guys with good argument showing all the evidences. People in Brazil always say Genesis version is better, mocking me for defending Snes version. I always knew the Snes version was better and this videos proves it. Thanks, guys.
A versão do SNES era tão superior que em Brasilia ela chegou a custar o mesmo preço de um Mega Drive usado. Meu amigo quase vendeu o mega dele para comprar o MKII de SNES. O pai dele é quem não deixou.
@josh loukianoff genesis has good music for me it can be tie but sound effects are better on snes sure many things are better on snes but genesis was close on gameplay until the best cheat code on snes was said only for snes but what am i waiting is ultimate mk3 console wars beacuse that was the best genesis mk port ever made so that can be a tough one
Ask them which company is still making consoles and which one is asking for kickstarters to fund new games and letting fans release their own fan made games......the latter, I'd assume is a company that's damn near broke in comparison to the other....
13:21 Actually, the Sega version does have that Kombat Tomb music, but for some dumb reason they used it for the character select screen instead. Damn, Probe REALLY dropped the ball on this one, just like they did on MK1.
I played both versions of this game extensively back in the day and they are pretty much the same. That 4-on-4 elimination mode on SNES is hella fun though!
Agreed, i think each one has it's charm to it. Both are very fun and when everyone was growing up at that time, most people didn't care because they were still playing MKII.
The Baraka winning pose animation is cut short on Genesis version. Among several other things. The MK2 game on snes is better in almost every area, audio, color, ect.
You guys mentioned animation being equal, not quite. Johny Cage and Baraka's win poses on the Genesis version are both incomplete, Baraka stays bowed Johnny Cage keeps his arms in the air instead of crossing them. 32X version for some reason didn't fix this, quite inexcusable on Probe's part.
I noticed that as well and it appears more that Probe was lazy as opposed to what could have been done with the 32x and Genesis versions. Good evidence of that is when Sculptured software took on making both the Genesis and Snes versions.
@bee boo When there is money to be made, they will go after it. That is why there are gameboy and gamegear versions of these fighting games. You're probably right, if the hardware isn't good enough, don't try.
PROBE blew it 3 times if you ever played the Saturn Version. The graphics were close to arcade Perfect. The game was still missing round and Character announcements believe it or not..I was thankful Sculptured took over for Genesis for part 3 which was more acurate to arcade on Genesis. Probe almost would get a pass for making Alien 3 on gen,and Die Hard Trilogy. I still really hate that they were so lackluster doing the genesis MK games and then with 2 more console failed attempts for part II after the genesis. It s inexcusable ..
I was expecting a clean sweep for the SNES and I was right. Excellent arcade port! I remember having the day off from school and picking this one up along with Maximum Carnage, both for SNES, cuz they were released on the same day. Great memories! Awesome video, guys! And what a bummer that Scorpion isn't into "butt stuff".....
Realistically this in Mortal Kombat three are probably some of the best fighting games ever made. Such a fun time to be a fan I also love the maximum carnage
@@miamimagicians MK2 on SNES in my favourite Mortal Kombat 2, such a masterpiece. It's even much better than all the 32bit ports with their broken gameplay, missing and wrong SFX/music and awful loading times. 32X port is on second place, it's just an slightly improvement of the Genesis version and still not as good as the SNES port.
Men I surery prefer control over graphics... Genesis d-pad it's the real deal, this two only focus on sound and colours, I like them, I want them to be friends of mine even, but I cannot understand the major part of their veredicts... Sry 4 my english btw.
Imakaze First, Sega's controller is normally a 3 button layout. No matter how you feel about the D-Pad, that is going to be a factor. With it being default even if you have a 6 button made playing the game perfectly tedious to do each time you turn it on. Add to that a game mode that can increase playing time, SNES was the superior version.
Imakaze Play Streetfighter 2 on Genesis and do about 30 fireballs. Now, how does your thumb hurts ? No problem with Snes soft d-pad. I played Killer Instinct for countless hours without any pain.
Acclaim had nothing to do with MK3, Sculptered Software and Williams Home Entertainment had something to do with the game. Midway knew Acclaim/Probe botched the first 2 games presentation, so they got Sculptered to do the third game, and it shows. The presentation of MK3 on the Genesis is pretty topnotch.
@ben owen The Snes port of MK3 is not even close to the Genesis version. From the frame rate to the animation the Genesis has the Snes beat. Hell the voice work is better as it should. Now you might say..."the snes sound is better..." not really. Look at Street Fighter Championship Edition with the fixed sound codec on a stock Genesis. Not only is every arcade sound and voice in the fixed Genesis version it sounds clearer and louder.
@bee boo Im "special" am I? If you mean having multiple college degrees in criminal justice and criminal psychology while contributing to society more than most, then you would be correct. If somehow you were attempting to extrapolate a persons intelligence from a sarcastic remark made in a forum about video games I might question your disposition in life; However, since this was all done in jest I'm guessing you are going to want to drop this now. Have a nice day...
@bee boo You implied I was "special" which prompted a like response from me (saying things like that has a way of agitating people). Had you started with your work in the first place this conversation would have gone alot differently. You do not get to insult people and have them not respond in kind. I also did quite a bit of skirt chasing in college (I got one as I am engaged) quite successfully I might add. She is a professional and a gamer like me. We do not need any of your Wii's, we actually built a home arcade complete with MVS Candy Cab's and every console from the Atari 7800 to multiple Xbox One X's, Switches, and PSPRO's. You make some claim about Sega fans being poor...right. When I was growing up I had a Sega Genesis/ Sega CD/32X, Snes, 3DO, Atari Jaguar and my first PC build (486DX2) before I moved out into my first apartment. Consequently, the Sega CD at the time cost more than anything Nintendo had to offer back then...so you are objectively wrong. Did you forget that Sega manufactured 6-button controllers that sold well...again objectively wrong. Lastly, I find your "argument" to really be all over the place. Further you use ad-hominem attacks like "pussy blind justice" (I have no idea what that is) and tell me to ask people at Williams about you...are you off of your meds perhaps? Yeah, this has been awfully entertaining let's do it again sometime.
Soundtrack and sound effects should almost be separate categories though. Sega's music was almost always better, but Nintendo was great with voice overs and effects

At that point the PlayStation was out and MK3 played pretty much spot on to the arcade whereas the SN, while being a good port, had trouble with things like multiple floors on levels - the arcade and PSX scrolled between them but on SN they had to fade to black and then fade into the next floor as a whole new screen as it just couldn't do it. The Genesis version doesn't hold a candle to the SN version IMO... but to not include PSX at that point would be har5d to do and it was so much better there's really nothing to compare.
Mortal Kombat 3 for the Genesis is the only Mortal Kombat done right. It looks, plays, and sounds far better on the Genesis. You can see the Genesis doing what it was made for.
@@Sinn0100 not really. MK 2 on Genesis is a great port. Yeah it's missing some voices and the Character select screen could look a little better, but it plays really well. The controls are spot on, most sound effects sound better than the SNES version,(Baraka's chopping blades for one example), and the Genesis version's music is just awesome and creepy in It's own right. The animations are great on Genesis too. They got it right for that game as well. MK 1 wasn't perfect but it still controlled well and had the original blood and fatalities at least. SNES MK1 is a sick joke.
@@80s_Gamr They should do *ULTIMATE* Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES & Genesis. MK 3 by itself was a weak game in comparison, and the SNES & Genesis versions both had additional content not in the Saturn & Arcade versions that made them stand out.
Also they should compare Unlimited Mortal Kombat 2 for Sega against SNES MK2. MK2 Unlimited has all the voice overs that are actually well done. Also you can select the bosses and hidden characters.
Petroshock Pictures Yeah, I notice it. But I used to play Mortal Kombat 2 PAL version. The PAL version is slower than Super Nintendo and Genesis version. Last week I played MK2 on third party Sega Genesis, the gameplay were faster than PAL version.
Not to mention even the base controller has the arcade standard 6 buttons, the Genesis only has half of that and some moves were removed from the Genesis version iirc.
The Mortal Kombat series was never meant to be kid-friendly/family friendly. The MK series is about nothing but brutal murder. And by the way, I recommend the PSN/XBLA re-release version of MK2 because it is 100% accurate to the arcade version.
On the Sega version, Baraka's win pose is also incomplete. He just takes a bow--they had to cut a lot of animations out in general. And the Sega version has the dreaded "UUH!" sound FX
The Sega version isn't missing the Kombat Tomb theme at all - it's on the character select screen. The tune that plays on the battle plan was MEANT to be on the character select screen, and the original battle plan theme is what's really missing.

EDIT: Now there is a What's the difference on the 32X version. YAY! :)
Everyone keeps bringing up the 32X version. Looks like I gotta play that version.
Not really.. The snes is as good as the 32x not much difference. Not worth burying another console for a game that's about the same. Do sparkster bs rocket knight
*****
Like throwing in the TG16 version of SF2 :)
Console Wars do 32x MK 2 vs defending champion SNES MK 2 👏?
It is worth it (but Super Nintendo is still better in my opinion) & actually buying the Sega 32X was worth it, primarily for the game.
There are a few improvements over Sega Genesis, but not a whole lot (especially music wise).
I do also have Sega CD (which like Sega 32X wasn't cheap & had to be ordered online) which has it's own version of Mortal Kombat 1 that's even bloodier than even the original Arcade game.
I got an interesting one:
Mega Man 7 (SNES) vs Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis)
Even though I really like Wily Wars, 7 rxpes Wily Wars
Doesn't even make sense to compare a remaster of 3 NES games to an original entry.
I Would Say Super Mario All Stars VS Megaman The Wily Wars Would Be A Better Matchup.
@Anthony Cook Yeah Especially The Wily Wars Has Issues.
First 3 mega man games for nes, and Mega man the wily wars for genesis
How about Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues on SNES vs Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition on Genesis.
Good idea, i loved Rampage edition on genesis!
YES! I've been saying this for a long time. So glad to see someone agrees!
I never beat JP2 SNES. So freaking difficult
Why ?
Not the same game.
@Mr Zilla - I like your name
When this first came out in arcades had lines around the block.
MK3 review needs Subzero as well. Great episode!
Yeah, we def gotta bring in more characters for that one.
I agree with the verdict, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Genesis version, it's the version I grew up with, and that Matt Furniss soundtrack is awesome, I don't care what anyone says.
I grew up with the Genesis version too, but had to give it to the SNES this time.
I agree the SNES version is superior, I'm just speaking out of nostalgia.
dennisbergkamp17 you know if it wasn't for nostalgia I don't think any of us would have anything to look forward to
Actually, Im glad, that Sega doen´t have the Liu Kang sounds ^^ .
Snes has to win sometimes!
" Scorpio, Scorpio, Scorpio....... Scorpio, Scorpio, Scorpio " !
Translation : I loved this review ! Keep it up guys ! c:
Thanks! We will!
I lost it with "get OVER HERE.....and let me treat you". you bros are fun.
Finally!! Love this show and need more of it.
FOR NOT CRYING YOU GET A LOLLIPOP!!! ( that cracked me up)
6:15 it makes sense to reuse this level because the fight is supposed to be happening in Earthrealm.
Because the genesis version is better.
That's the only console they have over there till this day
13:21 Actually, the Sega version does have that Kombat Tomb music, but for some dumb reason they used it for the character select screen instead.
Damn, Probe REALLY dropped the ball on this one, just like they did on MK1.
What about MK3 and Ultimate? It would be nice to see.
Def wasn't the same, the SNES version was much more like the Arcade version... Music, sound effects, graphics, no comparison my friend
They only restored barakas win animations.
There is nothing wrong with Baraka pose in genesis I like it!
Death From Above 1979 album in the background, nice!
I know, Scorpion doesn't know how to party.
@@ConsoleWars 13:22 They Forgot That Ben 10 Sounding Like Song 😱😱😱😱
Realistically this in Mortal Kombat three are probably some of the best fighting games ever made. Such a fun time to be a fan I also love the maximum carnage
@@miamimagicians MK2 on SNES in my favourite Mortal Kombat 2, such a masterpiece. It's even much better than all the 32bit ports with their broken gameplay, missing and wrong SFX/music and awful loading times. 32X port is on second place, it's just an slightly improvement of the Genesis version and still not as good as the SNES port.
These guys remind me a little bit of a younger version of Joe and Dave from Game Sack.
Apple cores and Chinese newspapers simpsons reference. Nice!
I forgot how awesome the snes version of MK was ! Thanks for the memories! U guys rock!
Thanks! We're all about nostalgia here.
I knew SNES was gonna win. Good luck with the next episode.
Imakaze
Play Streetfighter 2 on Genesis and do about 30 fireballs.
Now, how does your thumb hurts ?
No problem with Snes soft d-pad. I played Killer Instinct for countless hours without any pain.
Mortal Kombat 1 was better on the Genesis though and had the code to activate blood and gore.
edstar83, Mortal Kombat looked, played, and sounded like total ass on the Genesis
You guys missed something. the music from The Tomb on the arcade and snes versions was used as the character select music on the genesis.
Justice League Task Force snes vs genesis.
"So yes, twisting is good!"
Great job! Verdict was fair. Probe did a half-assed job, so Sega put Sculpture to do MK3 I think.
@ben owen
The Snes port of MK3 is not even close to the Genesis version.
@bee boo
Okay, I will be happy to tell them. ;)
@bee boo
Im "special" am I? If you mean having multiple college degrees in criminal justice and criminal psychology while contributing to society more than most, then you would be correct. If somehow you were attempting to extrapolate a persons intelligence from a sarcastic remark made in a forum about video games I might question your disposition in life; However, since this was all done in jest I'm guessing you are going to want to drop this now.
Have a nice day...
@bee boo
You implied I was "special" which prompted a like response from me (saying things like that has a way of agitating people).
Been waiting on more videos you guys are awesome.
The Genesis 6-button d-pad is amazing, I don't know what's wrong with yours lol
I don't blame them. MKII + SNES = WIN
@Trav D your wrong
32x is better
So, Scorpion eats Powersauce bars? Apple cores and Chinese newspaper. Also, I didn't realize he had a beard under that mask. =P
I'm sure it was mentioned but this is the first time I'm seeing this video. The tomb stage song that's missing in the Sega Genesis version is actually your character select theme song, the same goes for the MK2 battle plan song - its actually the character select theme.
Yeah, didn't realize it.
Lol you're so wrong.. it's very different and the kombat tomb stage music is definately not the character select screen's music. Very bad information you got bro.
"ruclips.net/video/efdN64iH8YY/видео.html" music for kombat tomb stage
"ruclips.net/video/63rt-6lsX8g/видео.html" character selection screen music
"ruclips.net/video/6mXU1tddbqs/видео.html" battleplan music theme,
As you see (or hear) three completely different songs for three different parts of the game. Check your facts before bro. 🤦🏼♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@gaba665 You are an uninformed dumbass making a fool of yourself as usual. You can easily pick up on the melody of the combat tomb tune in the character select on genesis. It's just remixed a bit and slowed down.
@@ajsingh4545 what an idiot. Then it's not the same if it is as you say... go cry somewhere else clown. It is clearly not the same, uninformed your ass.. lol what an ignorant loser you are.. as always making a fool of yourself in public.
LOL! Nurse Scorpion. I would get hit by a car just to be taken care of by him. xD
Love me some Mortal Kombat 2. It was the MK game that I grew up with and still remains my favorite one. I got the SNES version, and I always do the 4 vs. 4 mode when playing against friends. Great Job on yet another video, guys!
The only plus argument for Sega is music that distracts from the fact that there is no character grunts or voice overs?
Came across this show last week, and am HOOKED. Good job, guys.
I noticed there is a dearth of Shmups on Console Wars, tho. How about MUSHA Aleste for Genesis vs Gradius III for SNES?
I disagree MK 2 goes to Nintendo
Part for sounds . I prefer sega sounds MK 2 and that's sounds is intense just like arcade . But you guys forget that scorpion said get over here thing . He didn't said that on snes but he did on sega .😂
Dan you guys are doing great man I'm glad you stick with it and keep making videos we all appreciate it this is a awesome video game channel. Criminally underrated you should be in the millions. Us sweet bros from jersey have that charisma lol
Step up your game guys. Do Mortal Kombat Trilogy: Saturn VS N64
SCORPION! SCORPION! SCORPION! SCORPION! LOL The whole Scorpion enunciation actually makes the whole episode!
Console Wars, are u guys gonna produce a comparison video of Mortal Kombat 3 or it's the same similaries for MK II???
Mortal Kombat two and three both on the super Nintendo and Sega Genesis are fantastic games
@@80s_Gamr They should do *ULTIMATE* Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES & Genesis. MK 3 by itself was a weak game in comparison, and the SNES & Genesis versions both had additional content not in the Saturn & Arcade versions that made them stand out.
I would love to see you guys do Clayfighter
my favorite episode so far
Also they should compare Unlimited Mortal Kombat 2 for Sega against SNES MK2. MK2 Unlimited has all the voice overs that are actually well done. Also you can select the bosses and hidden characters.
Console Wars Pitfighter
yea, snes pit fighter is an abomination. no need to do the video, genesis wins that easy
great video, But this scene "7:01-7:12 " is why i'm subscribing. that was hilarious. "Scorpion likes twisting" LOL
Mortal Kombat II of Super Nintendo crushes the Mortal Kombat II version of Mega Drive
Retrono I use play both, yeah SNES wins. Genesis version has slower gameplay and no commentator.
Petroshock Pictures Yeah, I notice it. But I used to play Mortal Kombat 2 PAL version. The PAL version is slower than Super Nintendo and Genesis version. Last week I played MK2 on third party Sega Genesis, the gameplay were faster than PAL version.
Dont make me laugh!
Not in the music department and textures
One of my top 10 Console Wars episodes. Can I recommend MK Trilogy Sega Saturn vs Nintendo 64 ? Can't wait for a 4th MK Console Wars if possible.
That scorpion makes me laugh. Scorpion is good with blood, Scorpion is veeeery good with blood...hahaha!
Glad you enjoyed it!
found your channel thru a a shoutout from snes drunk and have seen about 10 since yesterday, good stuff!
Nice! Welcome to the channel. SNES Drunk is awesome.
I don't see how you guys don't have more subs. I fuckin love your show! :D
These videos are a light upon my life. I had forgotten about this video kind of.
Man, that games a cult classic!
Spawnpeeking Jäger cult suggests popular but not mainstream. This sold millions of copies. It ain’t cult
So Scorpion's diet consists solely of Powersauce bars?
You learn something new everyday!
8:04 hey that idea is stolen ingredients from Simpson's power bar episode
The back and forth banter in these videos is really good, I love the vibe
This episode is one of the funniest I've seen in a while. Keep up the good work! :D
Glad you think so. Worked hard on the script and did 3 rewrites.
The Super Advantage for the SNES is a great arcade style joystick for this game (and most fighting games on the SNES).
Holy shit this episode almost 4 years ago! Greg here was cool though I like the new SNES dude.
Guys, you are just awesome. My favorite English-speaking videogames show! Hello from Russia!
Привет!
Hello Russia! Thanks!
Hello Russia! Thanks!
On the Sega version, Baraka's win pose is also incomplete. He just takes a bow--they had to cut a lot of animations out in general. And the Sega version has the dreaded "UUH!" sound FX
I think you guys may have missed the missing frames of animation (such as Baraka's victory post, Johnny Cage's stance etc) on the Genesis version.
Maybe to save memory
And reptile standing pose is sub zero’s in genesis
The Sega version isn't missing the Kombat Tomb theme at all - it's on the character select screen.
The tune that plays on the battle plan was MEANT to be on the character select screen, and the original battle plan theme is what's really missing.
Yeah...
On SEGA or SNES...I still suck just as bad.
Love this game series to death, but...
Your videos awesome they take me back to the best time of my life, I had some dark times in my life but when I'm playing my mega drive which gave me good fun and great times to remember which help me at me at times as a kid in those dark times
I think Nintendo has better sound but maybe thats nostalgia, great video!
I grew up with the SNES version but Genny sound chip wins for music
I say Mickey Mania is next
Console Wars ideas:
The Jungle Book, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Krusty's Super Fun House, Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate MK3, Jurassic Park, The Flintstones (Genesis) vs. The Flintstones: The Treasure of Sierra Madrock, The Flintstones: The Movie, Boogerman, Bart's Nightmare, Virtual Bart, Clayfighter, Paperboy II, Ms. Pac-Man, Aero the Acro-Bat, Cool Spot
finally guys.. awesome.. i grew up with the snes port
Console Wars...stop kicking so much ass with these excellent vids!
Glad you enjoy them.
