Yknow The Plague Doctor's relationship with the Foundation would be a lot easier if he'd just DESCRIBE the actual pestilence. I have literally never understood what is stopping him from sitting down and just explaining himself to the Foundation other than it would make him less scary

There's a simple way to determine whether or not the pestilence that SCP-049 talks of is real: if SCP-049 states that someone in the foundation has contracted the pestilence, give that person one SCP-500 (without telling the Plague Doctor) if you return the person to SCP-049 and the doctor still claims that the person is sick, then you have proof that the Doctor is lying.

An origin story for 049 would be pretty interesting. We know that he tried to be an honest doctor. But what made him into an SCP I wonder? Perhaps he became that way while fighting the mask. Some cure he used on himself to prevent his death. This could explain his extreme disdain for the white mask centuries later.
I have a hypothesis: what if the Plague was created by 035? I have no idea how it got on the boats to Sicily at first, but maybe the mask was on one of them at some point. The black secretions it oozes could correlate to the black boils of the plague, having a corrosive diseased effect. And the way he cured the infected mysteriously? 035 is smart, but I don't think he has such vast medical knowledge, therefore maybe he could cure the plague because he controlled it to begin with. And if so, he didn't heal the farmer or his wife willingly in order to raise suspicion against 049 (as he was present at these points of treatment and these points only) and then framed him by going to the judge and suggesting 049 brought it with him, yet 035 showed up to the village first. 049 felt his methods that worked prior were usurped when 035 was around, so it could stand to reason that 035's presence strengthens the plague because he controls it. He also probably heard of 049 and his great success, and beat him to the village deliberately in order to cause more death AND dethrone 049, eliminating him before he could find a permanent cure. Because, after all, maybe to us the Black Death, despite its mysterious nature in how it appeared and subsequently disappeared so abruptly, is normal, but in the SCP universe, something so lethal and so secretive could almost be... anomalous. But, I digress, as this is just a theory after all. Edit: I began typing this comment before I fully finished the video, so obviously some aspects of this are wrong, (e.g. 035 didn't actually expect 049 to show up)
I am beginning to wonder if the Possessive Mask had anything to do with 049's deadly touch. I mean, early in the video 049 was able to touch a patient. And after finding the truth of the mask's long-dead host, the touch of death began.
Black Plague raged from 1347 to 1352. The bird-shaped Plague Doctor outfit was imagined by Charles de Lormes - king of France Louis XIII's personal doctor - during the 1619 plague outbreak in Paris (because even if none had the same amplitude than the Black Death there were plague outbreaks in Europe until WW2) and was used until the XVIIIth century. The doctors already had special outfit to protect themselves against the plague, working on the same principles, but they weren't shaped like bird. Meaning that, if SCP-049 already was around in the Black Plague, he followed medical researches about the plague at least until the XVIIth century, so during at least 2 centuries
This got me thinking recently. Recently, I have been reading some fanfic that is not SCP and some words caught my interest. People in the Doctor's time feared the diseases as they were a severe epidemic back then. Nowadays, these diseases were a more common annoyance or misfortune, from coughs, to fevers, etc. I do not know how many others thought of this but...The Plague Doctor must be forever stuck. It's not just because of his appearance, but his knowledge of medication, diseases, and others are forever chained to the times of the 1300s or below. It's either he never knew the new ways of healing or his mind couldn't adapt far from the knowledge and skills he currently possesses But this is just a theory.
I think it's far more likely that as medicine evolved in the world so too did the plague doctors knowledge. He even say in the video that he was willing to learn from the masked man when his patients kept dying so I think a similar case would happen here.
SCP-049 just managed to beat up SCP-035 by pushing, this is why the possessive mask shouldn't possess a skeleton body. Also, how did Plague Doc got the death touch? Could it be the plague? 049's treatment is pretty much like the other doctors at that time.
Scp-035 during the sedetion interview: "Oh 049 and I we are lovers, we travelled together and tried to cure the infected" Scp-049 during the sedetion interview: "He stalked me, abused me, attacked me, Blackmailed me, tried to manipulate me, and constantly harrased me, since the moment I first met that thing my life has been hell, dont put me near that thing EVER"
Alright, I know this is off topic but I have question.. Why doesn't the foundation put SCP-173 in a mirror room when testing is not scheduled for SCP-173? I find it a little interesting how the foundation secures anomalies.. But doesn't protect them?
I just realized. Since scp-035 kind of reminds me of the joker and how he kind of is like the joker. His relationship with scp-049 is kind of like how Batman and Joker's relationship is like
5:20 I can just imagine scp 049 running up behind 035 and just yelling out: "YOU!! GET BACK HERE YOU FAKE PHYSICION! YOU STOLE MY BAG AND MY BACK UP CLOTHES, AND NOW YOU CALL YOURSELF A DOCTOR?!" Or at 7:18 scp 049 looking at him and just saying "You..." in a menacing tone XD Edit: funny thing I went a scp 049 for halloween and many people didn't know what a plauge doctor was XD (my brother was scp 035)
I thought that was weird too. 2/3 people he touches in this episode don’t die. (Distilled spirits dude and that king) and then the judge does at the end? Also it shows the Dr without gloves on, but his “gloves” are a part of his “skin”.
It is an anachronism though, as the plague doctor outfit didn't exist during the Great Plague of the 14th century. It was only mentioned for the first time during the 1619 plague outbreak in Paris.
Having recently watched SCP Sedition, and hearing 035 talk about a possible relationship between it and 049, I just wanted to say that the thumbnail for this video caught me off guard.
The video did provide some of the information for both of the possessive mask and the plague doctor share history it even brings up the location of where the possessive mask was locked away until the day when the scp foundation both found him and freed him witch the foundation would later regret also in that same the plague doctor was shock to hear that the site that he was being moved to is the same site that scp-035 is at he later told the doctor who was being interviewed at time I hope that they don't put us in the same room witch his way of requesting that they should not scp-049 and scp-035 in the same room for more information about their share history watch scp foundation interview with scp-049 be sure to look for the video with the plague doctor on the title card when you try to find the video in question it will be the second video below the top one as the one the above that one is just the doctors playing a game of 20 questions with him just go to the one below that one
In this town SCP 49 somehow gains his death's touch probably a curse casted upon from SCP 35. Hmm makes me wonder what would happen if we put the two of them into a room together now.
I guess the plague doctor uniform kind of did provide some level of protection, so they did not have to touch them and the beak kind of being like a face mask?
Despite SCP-049 being one of the dangerous anomalies thats held in Heavy Containment, he isn't all that evil. Just a man who is trying to cure people of the Pestilience.
So, something that confuses me about the Ol' Doc. Is his death touch optional, like can he choose when he kills with his death touch, or is it something he doesn't have control over? Also, is it only his hands which can kill?
That will be a interesting story since even though he looks like a plague doctor, scp 049 never heard about the black death and has no idea what it is. (at least according to my knowledge correct if wrong please)
I want to know if they'll ever do a video on what the mask(black lord of alagada) did to SCP-049 and it's mother and how he ended up in our world without any recollection of his time in alagada
Its been a while since i saw a scp explained and left wondering more than i started with. I've heard these two knew each other, from this period this is the first time it was delved into.
It would be an interesting concept that pestilence 049 speaks of, was the ooze that came from the Possessive Mask - but why doesn't clear it out that he means is the Corrosive Ooze from it?
wait wait wait as i remember if he touches someone he instantly died but this one its not been done yet done yet means he dont know the death touch yet
Well this answers some questions but gave another million more. 049 is genuinely a caring doctor but I think this event must've messed up his mind about what the Pestilence even is anymore.
Okay, now it makes sense. When site director Jacob interviewed 049, he claimed 035 assaulted him during the plague. If this is it, then that would explain why two don't get along.
Major correction - the plague doctor outfit described didn't appear until shortly before 1619 nearly 300 years after the Black Death first arrived in Europe.

I think it's far more likely that as medicine evolved in the world so too did the plague doctors knowledge. He even say in the video that he was willing to learn from the masked man when his patients kept dying so I think a similar case would happen here.
so scp 049 was actully a good person back then? man i wish i knew him back then before he started thinking everyone was infected
I actually learned a lot about the Black Death from the starting part
I love SCP-049. He only does what’s best for the world. Even if his methods are not how one would expect, he still does what he can to help.
SCP-049 just managed to beat up SCP-035 by pushing, this is why the possessive mask shouldn't possess a skeleton body. Also, how did Plague Doc got the death touch? Could it be the plague?
049's treatment is pretty much like the other doctors at that time.
What if you put SCP-049 through medical school if he's so open to learning new medical procedures and methods and theories.
035 gives big antagonist energy. The classic rival of 049, yet not exactly the most dangerous.
The thumbnail scares me, 035 can't be THAT EVIL, right, right..?
You have no idea how evil it truly is
@@BleachFan9891 Yet, it is still affect by SCP-999
@@andytaker3073 holy now that was evil, I completely forgot about that
It can. :)
@@ignite015 Yes it can :)
Thanks!
POG
Can we please have more animated readings? You haven’t done any in a long time
SCP-049 is probably a really chill and knowledgeable guy that just wants to get rid of sickness.
thumbnail made me fail november
Scp-035 during the sedetion interview: "Oh 049 and I we are lovers, we travelled together and tried to cure the infected"
Scp-049 during the sedetion interview: "He stalked me, abused me, attacked me, Blackmailed me, tried to manipulate me, and constantly harrased me, since the moment I first met that thing my life has been hell, dont put me near that thing EVER"
my history teacher put this on not realising it was an scp video...
049: I was around for a long time now! Also 049: WHAT'S A BLACK DEATH?
Alright, I know this is off topic but I have question.. Why doesn't the foundation put SCP-173 in a mirror room when testing is not scheduled for SCP-173? I find it a little interesting how the foundation secures anomalies.. But doesn't protect them?
I just realized. Since scp-035 kind of reminds me of the joker and how he kind of is like the joker. His relationship with scp-049 is kind of like how Batman and Joker's relationship is like
049 will always protect the public and the private. That mask…
He’s crazy
yep
@@anunkownuncontainedscp590 I didn’t even finish the video and I have a feeling the mask has something to do with the sick
@@JoJo-fan-right-here no, the mask is just crazy, like you said
@@anunkownuncontainedscp590 that’s what I’m saying
Fun fact some of the herbs used in the beak of the plague doctor masks actually had antibacterial properties, so it kinda worked actually.
5:20 I can just imagine scp 049 running up behind 035 and just yelling out: "YOU!! GET BACK HERE YOU FAKE PHYSICION! YOU STOLE MY BAG AND MY BACK UP CLOTHES, AND NOW YOU CALL YOURSELF A DOCTOR?!" Or at 7:18 scp 049 looking at him and just saying "You..." in a menacing tone XD
Edit: funny thing I went a scp 049 for halloween and many people didn't know what a plauge doctor was XD (my brother was scp 035)
Steal his secondarily uniform.
@@Dante_xy7 LOL
Hold on. So scp-049’s touch wasn’t always deadly? He was shaking hands with a king perfectly fine.
SAMW
I think he can activate it it's like a power when he's not using it he can touch people without killing them
@@darthbane418no that’s wrong it’s said multiple times that it’s a passive thing and that he can’t control it it’s just an animation error
Maybe he got cursed??
I thought that was weird too. 2/3 people he touches in this episode don’t die. (Distilled spirits dude and that king) and then the judge does at the end? Also it shows the Dr without gloves on, but his “gloves” are a part of his “skin”.
Very interesting concept, as always.
1:56 SCP-3760 Like a Doll's eyes
i can only imagine a scene where a giant mob is chasing 049, yet he just casually walks away despite everything going on
Nobody is going to talk about the 682 plush that was just dropped? XD he's adorable!
It is an anachronism though, as the plague doctor outfit didn't exist during the Great Plague of the 14th century. It was only mentioned for the first time during the 1619 plague outbreak in Paris.
“Fortnight” I can just imagine the villagers and the doctors playing lol
I think he would’ve helped out as many people he could.
“What did a plague docter do during the plague” Lmao
Fun fact: The recognizable plague doctor outfit was actually designed in France in 1619, and popularised by its inclusion in the venetian carnivals.
Having recently watched SCP Sedition, and hearing 035 talk about a possible relationship between it and 049, I just wanted to say that the thumbnail for this video caught me off guard.
I’m not sure what the possessive mask is doing there, but here we are, I guess
SCP-049 the plague doctor was cursed by SCP-035. He can no longer feel the touch of skin. Instead he kills people by touching.
Poor guy
9:12 THEY DRAWED HIM A MOUTH
“Their ain’t enough room for 2 doctors in this town!” *referring to the thumbnail*
17:58
The Plague Doctor isn't wearing his gloves.
Wonder why though...
He thinks that the gloves where dangerous
Actually fantastic episode, i think we've all been wondering about this
In this town SCP 49 somehow gains his death's touch probably a curse casted upon from SCP 35. Hmm makes me wonder what would happen if we put the two of them into a room together now.
I guess the plague doctor uniform kind of did provide some level of protection, so they did not have to touch them and the beak kind of being like a face mask?
That's exactly it.
I’m pretty sure it’s optional but I could be wrong
Alternate title: scp 035 vs scp 049
So wait, if scp 343 knows basically everything, couldn’t we just ask him what the pestilence is? Because 049 just refuses to tell us
This dude made the Black Plague sound like an scp
The goalball coalition 🆚 SCP 3288 aristocrats
The chaos insurgency 🆚 scp-001 the factory
Marshall Carter and dark 🆚 SCP 001 when DAY breaks
Goalball i think you meant Global Occult Coalition
049 is my favorite. I’d be his lab assistant.
That will be a interesting story since even though he looks like a plague doctor, scp 049 never heard about the black death and has no idea what it is. (at least according to my knowledge correct if wrong please)
The fact if 049 learns the actual pestilience Aka terminal illnesses and deadly illness he could actually save lots of people
Yeah SCP 049 is my personal favorite as well he just wanted to help people.
Fun fact: the black plague is still here, just we have the cure
In all honesty this story would do perfect for a movie, I really loved it!
I want to know if they'll ever do a video on what the mask(black lord of alagada) did to SCP-049 and it's mother and how he ended up in our world without any recollection of his time in alagada
15:48 scared me to my core
Bruh I have never expected to be jumpscared by Scp Explained.
Thanks for the heads up, ima get bright to see this
HAHAHAHAH GOTCHA BRIGHT, OH SH*T NOT THE CHAINSAW GODDAMMIT AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I see 049

Facts about me
Yes relatable

Its been a while since i saw a scp explained and left wondering more than i started with. I've heard these two knew each other, from this period this is the first time it was delved into.
hunter how dare you have such good voice acting?
It would be an interesting concept that pestilence 049 speaks of, was the ooze that came from the Possessive Mask - but why doesn't clear it out that he means is the Corrosive Ooze from it?
13:58 rip.
Finally, I’ve really wanted to know this
wait wait wait as i remember if he touches someone he instantly died but this one its not been done yet
done yet means he dont know the death touch yet
Well this answers some questions but gave another million more.
049 is genuinely a caring doctor but I think this event must've messed up his mind about what the Pestilence even is anymore.
Okay, now it makes sense. When site director Jacob interviewed 049, he claimed 035 assaulted him during the plague. If this is it, then that would explain why two don't get along.
Major correction - the plague doctor outfit described didn't appear until shortly before 1619 nearly 300 years after the Black Death first arrived in Europe.
Cool
Just give the Plague Doctor his cane .
What a wonderful scenario, thanks for this thing .
I’m sorry but the thumbnail’s looking kinda sus 😭
