I like how courteous the plague doctor is. Sure, he is a little prone to anger but it seems to stem from "the lack of understanding of his peers" or literally he thinks they mock him. He instantly eases up as one admits thier own ignorance. I would propose to let a peak healthy D-Class ask for his permission to enter under his guidance as trainee. 049 has shown lots of selfrestrain to touch people and always does it as step for his "cure" or out of anger. So having a outspoken trainee eleminates the aspect of anger and it would surely stroke his ego by quite alot.
That wouldnt work. Any and all attempts on learning his methods have failed. We know what happens *after* he ''cures'' his patients, but we do not know the substances, the process of diagnosis or even what the sickness is. Many scientists have died trying to work *with* him. And as he claimed in the video, there are things he will not disclose. Best a D-class could do is just fetch him some medical tools until Plague Doctor decides his assistant also has the plague. We also had something similar to that: When the Day Breaks. Giant cannibal dude was his assitant as they tried to find a way to cure the sun's affects on people (which he even suceeded briefls, coming closer than SCP foundation itself) however the Cannibal did not learn a thing. He was just there being himself and doing physical work. He was not trained to actually aid the Doctor in any medical sense.
I have 2 ideas how to get this SCP(049) to confess about the pestilence: 1) He always says that he wants to work with "live" humans that are infected with the pestilence. Therefore, the foundation should tell him that they do not know what the symptoms of the disease are, and that if he really wants them to bring him live infected humans then he MUST tell them what the symptoms are so that they can identify infected individuals and bring him those. 2) He always gets annoyed that the foundation's doctors are too ignorant because they don't comprehend the pestilence. However, they should ask him to teach elementary school children(who are expected to be ignorant) about the pestilence -with barriers of course. (And If he says it would be a waste of his time and some other doctor should do the job, I would appeal to his ego and tell him that I want the next generation to learn from the BEST doctor in the world)
2 issues here 1. From the perspective of 049, every human has the pestilence, so it doesnt matter what human they bring him 2. How can you explain science to a tortoise?, humans simply can't understand the pestilence, so teaching it to others is pointless
@@Jesus-jq5zw 049 clearly states at the end that the interviewer doesn't have it (which indicates not all humans are infected). Moreover, if he thought every1 was infected he would've been far more aggressive towards every1 (when 049 first arrived at the foundation he was impressed how little pestilence was at the base). I could also tell him that I want to implement some sort of AI to keep track of pestilence outbreaks and spread. I would explain to him that a computer program doesn't know what the symptoms are and that a computer/AI need to be taught (but it would be worth it to 049 because it would severely reduce if not eliminate the spread completely) and due to the fact that I'm no doctor, I don't know what the symptoms are and how it spreads but I can help him keep track of it if he helps me to build an automated tracking system that can identify it.
Maybe the pestilence is a memetic hazard, and everytime he tries to explain it people forget or don't see or hear him do it. So he just gave up on telling people about it after hundredss of years
I'm quite sure he disregards such books as they include modern medicine and treatment procedures. Otherwise he likely would have had a different way of performing procedures or adjusting them a little but there seems to be no change
But when you try to ask him what it is, he normally ignores it, and gets insulted, because he thinks that everyone who calls themselves a scientist knows that as basic knowledge.
@@Mister_Moinz why dont they send a d-class or somebody else to ask him instead? Afterall hes an expert and should be able to explain it better than them *wink wink*
I always loved 049. I loved that you could talk to him and, for the most part, his reasoning did make sense. If you treated 049 with courtesy, he would do the same (unless you made him mad, which could be easy at times).
Honestly, the Plague doctor has got to be one of the nicest, chillest, and human SCPs. Edit: Also It's very clear the pestilence is lactose intolerance, just saying.
049's answer to the final question, saying he cannot share things for both the doctor's safety & his own leads me to conclude that the mere mention of what the Pestilence is can cause one's contraction of it. So that means that the Pestilence can spread via info-hazard if its true nature is ever spoken or written down for reading out loud, but it can still be read silently. Eerily similar to how SCP-2521 behaves.
.......you're suggesting that 049 has never talked about it's true nature and that's why he can know about it but not consider himself infected...? ....that implies an awfully strict restriction on the pestilence's ability to spread, in that 049 sure has seemed to get away with making an awful lot of statements about it while still considering himself not afflicted. I understand he hasn't told us enough to know "what it is", but he sure has made a lot of casual statements about it. That implies a force which is awfully restrained in it's ability to execute it's own task ie spreading via discourse. That might be the weakest infohazardous anomaly in this entire canon. Imagine being able to say that much about 2521. Literally the foundations file on 2521 is kindergarten level imagery used to convey the idea that they can't convey the idea, but 049 can run around saying all manner of things about the Pestilence so long as he doesn't get TOO specific. Haven't there been instances of him being surprised that somebody doesn't know what he's talking about....? Aren't there documented cases of 049 being under the impression that he has immediately prior conveyed enough information as to communicate the essence of the Pestilence...? 'Cuz if so that surely immediately KOs that entire theory. Unless I suppose you want me to believe that those were all cases where 049 was trying to get a new patient to experiment on....? Except again, why would the other party be the only infected one, I ask again, how does any of that mesh with 049's statement that he is not infected....? He specifically put down the Hail Mary Mallon theory
I believe the reason why the Doctor skirts describing the Pestilence exactly is because if he makes very direct references, he'll trigger something terrible, AND be the cause for it.
Given the answer to the pestilence, the foundation will probably put ALL of its resources in treating it. And if they were to succeed, either Humanity will go extinct, or the doctor will become useless to the foundation and they will try to terminate him. The doctor is not stupid, we know the answer but we aren't sure what it is. And the doctoe knows that once he gives humanity the answer they seek, HE becomes obsolete. He avoids telling the true nature of the pestilence because he does not want the foundation to take his job and terminate him
Regarding the Scarlet King question, is it possible that 049 is a child of the daughter mentioned, "Pestilence", and he had something happen that caused him to turn away from them and begin fighting against the influence of his "mother"? That would explain how he knows about the Scarlet King and why he's so adverse to discussing the exact nature of the pestilence. If he discussed it he'd be discussing the Scarlet King and getting the King one step closer to entering our reality.
I second this theory. Everytime we think about, or mention *him.* He steps ever closer into our reality. It would only be natural that 049 would want to not speak about him, and the nature of his child.
If we are to follow this line of theory (pestilence being connected to Scarlet King) then we could also assume its something King himself has created to secretly plague worlds, increase his dominion. Since Doctor doesnt accept death to be natural while Scarlet King only demands of it, it makes sense he would be on the opposing side. Regardless of his origin. Not to mention all his ''Cured'' patients share the exact abilities as him minus the consciousness. They dont die of natural causes, they dont age, they dont eat or drink. He could be trying to cure this secret pestilence by turning people into himself, since he is immune to it.
It's scp 5000 the being called it it lives in the in-between the world of unconscious it's the voice u hear that tells u to do things u shouldn't it's trying to cone into the waking world it almost succeed many times but the powers that be stop it by killing all life or the council causes the apocalypse when there's little to no humans it loses power
Based on some of his answers here (particularly at 7:22), I kinda wonder if maybe 049 doesn’t know exactly WHAT the Pestilence is, but considers it enough that he can recognize it and fight it.
I've always tried to find out what the pestilence is, but after this interview I just think there is no pestilence and SCP-049 is just using it to transfer organisms because he enjoys it. So he tries to pretend he knows all about it and that it's very simple so he doesn't have to say it, reasoning that every doctor should know what it is.
The Pestilence is likely something that one cannot comprehend, be imagined or even explained. However as soon as we witness it, we understand its existence fully. There are lots of things in the real world like this. Color, music, taste & smell for example, cannot be described, understood or even comprehended until you experience it. You cannot explain what color looks like to a blind person, because they have no conceivable notion to base what you’re saying on. Nor can the sounds of music be understood to a deaf person. It can only be understood through experience (Vsauce also has a great video on this for more information). All these “inconceivable experiences” are given to us by our 5 senses… sight, hearing, smell, taste, feeling. SCP 049 likely has a 6th sense, something that gives him the ability to sense, whiteness & understand the pestilence. Because no human actually has this 6th sense, no one can truly understand or even comprehend where 049 is coming from, & The Plague Doctor truly is our only hope & the only true cure.
I think we already know what it is. But the doctor lies to save his own life. If we find the cure to the pestilence, the foundation will have no need for the doctor anymore and terminate him. The doctor is probably aware of this
I love how the narrator has developed his 049 accent. Went from an old fashioned English accent to a proper French accent. Kudos on your steady improvement. Tbh your 049 accent is probably the reason I enjoy the good doctor’s videos so much. Keep it up, mon compagnon.
When scp 049 mentioned that he can't tell him about the subconscious pestilence for the safety of him and the others, it was something unexpected to hear here, but curious actually Dr Plague is hiding something from the others
@@saucefreakystyle could make sense, considering his patients lose complete consciousness after being revived. He is immune to this hazard, likely trying to cure humans by turning them into something like himself. Considering neither he or his creations age, die of natural causes nor need any form of food. Only thing these creatures lack is consciousness, Which is why his cure is not perfect yet. Could be interesting to observe him, a ''sick'' D class (diagnosed by the good doctor of course, without being treated immidietly) and a anomaly dude who is immune to memetic hazards/anomalistic effects himself. I remember such a dude existing but dont remember his SCP code. We can then test it by sending previously deemed healthy (by our good doctor, of course.) D class into the same room with the plagued D class, and observe the reactions of Plague Doctor. If this thing truly is a memetic hazard, it will be most likely jumping between D class via communication. We can then rule out the words used, repeat the test several more times to check if it needs *any* communication or specific words. This is of course counting on the fact that our immune friend doesnt deemed to be infected by the Doctor. If he is, We cannot continue the test as we will have absolutely no proof of this sickness existing, back to square one.
Perhaps the pestilence is related to the SCP 5000 event? It was caused by the O5 council discovering something inside the human subconscious which, after discovery, changed their minds and the entire goal of the foundation. Perhaps this subconscious programming is the same thing that 049 intends to cure…
What if we already know what it is. My theory is that the foundation already has all the info they need to cure it but don't know themselves (typhoid mary style and be unaware of it) The doctor probably knows that if the foundation finds out the cure they will terminate him as there is no use for him anymore at that point. I believe he is deceiving and lying to save his own life
While good on paper the doctor directly dismissed that SCP 5000 doesn't have SCP-049 getting involved and was a conclusion from 2 researches SCP 5000 was an event after discovering that pain isn't natural (but an infection) that feeds some eldritch entity using humanity as cattle and that the afterlife is just you still feeling your body rot away as if you were still alive for all eternity with the pain never subsiding because of said infection O-5 declared to kill all infected individuals to free humanity and terminate that entity, the only occasion where SCP foundation allied themselves with SCP-682 SCP-049 has directly answered the question, pain and agony aren't the Pestillence at 4:54 (in the video at least not sure the animation is of an actual interview done with 049)
There are a lot of hints that the pestilence is the infection of the collective human subconscious talked about in the SCP 5000 event, and it makes sense that the SCP foundation never finds out what this pestilence is, because the moment they do, we know excatly what happens
A valid theory could be the pestilence to be cell mutation in a working organism -It can manifest in literally any body part as cancer in any state or aging in general -Reason for him not seeing the pestilence that much in a laboric facility could be, because the personal has to be healthy and gets health checks regularly -The Doctor could not see any pestilence in the inside of the scientist even tho he lied to him AND was scared the Doctor could read his sins (which proved he had some) which proves the pestilence is not a spiritual thing, at least not some kind of evil within the soul -Subjects who got treated by the pest doctor were basically undead zombies therefore no longer able to age nor to any form of cell reproduction or mutation The Pest Doktor basically creates non-aging, unevolvable creatures with his treatment and can't find the pestilence in a healthy young man therefore my theory the pestilence is the natural breakdown of DNA a living organism experiences the older it gets.
All true but that doesn't excuse the clickbait. Pestilence was not revealed. Eventually they will succumb to SCP 534, The Digital Boy Who Cried Wolf... just like every youtube grifter.
Hmmm... Why not ask SCP-5094 "Miss J" to teach what "The Pestilence" is? She seems to be able to know anything and be capable to teach anything to anyone, she might be able to do what Plague Doctor refuses to do.
@@eternallegacy89 since his mask is litterally his skull, I would say no. Especially if he is a part of Scarlet King's bloodline, thus otherworldly. That said, SCP God can't even see 682, since he is not of his creation, but 049 could be a mix if he can talk to God, but not necessarily a mix with a human. (maybe alien from another dimension). Either way not really human, too paranormal.
When me and my friends (that i made along the way - of course) are descending stairs, i give them a little push to help them descend faster, and when i do this my pestilence suddenly fades!
Idea: Give 49 his own research facility to cure the pestilence, and check in often with mobile task forces and make sure he doesn't leave. However, leave him with freedom to work. I want someone to pass this idea on to the 05 council.
I think this is the closes we've gotten so far to finding out what exactly The Pestulance is. And the implications of some of the information we got is kind of terrifying and awesome!
@@nightmarerex2035 that is genuinely what i think it is, especially given that 049 has said that the pestilence is not as prominent in the members of the SCP Foundation
049, to my knowledge, only said the scp researchers and all doctors should know what the pestilence is. So on that note, couldn’t they have someone else go in and ask about it? Someone not a doctor acting curious about being a successor to him? Even letting the person learn directly from him for a while
Let's see, we have videos that show ✔️ SCP-096 SHY GUY being destroyed ✔️ SCP-999 TICKLE MONSTER finally defeating the Scarlet King ✔️ The Pestilence finally being revealed These are the explanations we need more of. 👏
@@wisenotwise2676 that’s literally the best theory I’ve ever heard. I luckily don’t have the pestilence. I believe some form of the scp foundation exists, and these stories are to convince us otherwise. If someone told us the foundation is real, most of us would laugh and say things like, “I wish!” Hiding behind the facade of fiction could be their strategy. What they use to hide themselves.
I think the problem is that the doctor are only asking closed questions (yes or no) and not open questions like (what are the symptoms of the disease). I can see why the plague doctor is annoyed with the SCP foundation. Have him teach us about the pestilence, have us train under him to get a better understanding of it, do some tests on subjects with him and have have him show us exactly where the disease is and where in the body it infects. Basically, sit down, shut up and listen.
I'm surprised the SCP foundation has not tried to convince the doctor to take on young medical students as assistants under the guise of letting them learn about the pestilence from the foremost expert.
I have two theories for what the Pestilence is: 1. It is SCP-3448 or an entity like it that lurks in the collective consciousness. 2. It is like an anomalous "humor" in the body that must be balanced. In excess it causes certain brands of anomalies and in low amounts it causes mortality. Most living beings experience an imbalance towards lowered levels as they age, while some rare few individuals experience it in excess. Just a couple ideas.
It is incredible that this chapter in which SCP 049 reveals some things that the Scarlet King knows more about and that he has lived his origin where he came from much more that he does not want to talk about; 343 really told something that not even Dr. de la Plaga remembers and knows some that he did not want to remember
Man, I'm so disappointed. I thought I was finally going to learn what the Pestilence really is, but the only thing I've learned is that is likely either a memetic hazard that, for some reason, the Plague Doctor seems to be immune to the effects of, OR that it is, indeed, related to the Scarlet King in some way, shape, form, or fashion. That's a more accurate line of thinking than my previously nebulous understanding, but it still leaves me with so very many questions
Things I picked up on this; •Didn't know that black plague is called the bubonic plague. • unaware of Typhoid or Typhoid Mary but he is far older than when she was even born • Every idea of specific individuals mentioned who represent only Pestilence does SCP-O49 dismiss as either a myth or a story. • ready to end the questioning, the doctor, after making mention of our subconscious and something lying dormant within, he asks " Does he have it" where SCP-049 for the first time with any human says no, but that is right now. • That would mean within the questioning, has the Doctor without knowing has discovered Pestilence's location, where it is? Knowing where it is, is enough to have it controlled, so SCP-049 said he doesn't have it but only currently and maybe later he will have it because the doctor will begin asking new questions steering away from the questions and loose answers that he had with scp-049? • Does this coincide with when The council required to end everyone and kill everyone in the world? Is it because this Doctor figured it out? • During the episodes when The scp foundation did require to end everyone in the world, You never did let us know what was scp-049 or scp-343 were doing during that time. • Nor have You ever shown episodes of scp-049 ever coming from a different universe, nor God and the Plague Doctor ever having a sit-down session. These need to be shown further • I also picked up, as I said earlier scp-049 dismissed any individual the doctor mentioned that was regarded solely of Pestilence, but also noticed the two most evil (the scarlet king and the black lord) brought into question, scp-049 had emote a great reaction both times. • so not only my question did the doctor figure out its in our subconscious and if this helps the council figure it out requiring the end of humans to take place, but did God in another Universe create the plague doctor to defeat the other universe or universes of the scarlet king and/ or the Black Lord? Is this why God is using this universe and the scp foundation as his place to rest? So these are the things I picked up in this episode and the questions I now have
"Does this coincide with when The council required to end everyone and kill everyone in the world? Is it because this Doctor figured it out? " That event is known as SCP 5000, it doesn't have SCP-049 getting involved and was a conclusion from 2 researches, SCP 5000 is already dismissed by SCP-049 as pain isn't the Pestillence SCP 5000 was an event after discovering that pain isn't natural (but an infection) that feeds some eldritch entity using humanity as cattle and that the afterlife is just you still feeling your body rot away as if you were still alive for all eternity with the pain never subsiding because of said infection O-5 declared to kill all infected individuals to free humanity and terminate that entity, the only occasion where SCP foundation allied themselves with SCP-682
Has SCP-978 ever been used on SCP-049? It seems like that photo might offer some incite. Another idea would be to take 049 to SCP-294, explain to him how 294 operates and suggest he type in "A cup of pestilence cure." to see what the machine comes up with. A question I've always had would be to ask 049 if he able to touch people 'without' treating them (killing) as if he could, it was make him more trustworthy to interact with.
I think the most likely results for such a test are an "out of range" exception or simply a mix of various liquids from within the doctor's own bag, since his cure is already "most effective".
He was nearly offended at the idea that it was magical. He described it/his efforts as purely scientific. The only thing that gave him pause was minutia of misdiagnosis. I- ...... I'm gonna go with no. Not "no" like you're just wrong it simply can't be. But this certainly is NOT the interaction that "cements our ability to safely say it is so" ....def not the interaction where 049 literally scoffed at the idea of that being the case .... XD Like, maybe he's wrong or lying, but, uuuuh, science def does NOT work by seeing somebody say "no" and then saying "so, yea, right?" xp
@@slipknot95maggot Metaphysics isn't magic per say - it's more like psueodo-science by today's standards or an understand of what's considered supernatural. Like - The Scarlet King is heavily involved with meta Physics and clearly 049 knows about him and knows it's best not to talk about him. My suggestion is that similar to the Scarlet King's logic, there's probably some sort of reason that he can't specifically tell us what the pestilence is as it could be a hidden but real threat like "The Entity" from SCP-5000.
I believe that the pestilence is death, and the reason why the doctor turns everyone into zombies is because zombies are immortal in a sense, they've already died so there's no chance for them to die again. But it isn't perfect, because it can still be destroyed, it's a corrupted body and it does not have conscience. The pestilence is all personifications of death and 049 is trying to remove death so everyone can live happily. Respect for 049
7:34 This part is super interesting. if 049 has a solid working knowledge of him but it doesn't affect his arrival, but when a normal non anomalies human learns about it does. does that mean they might be able to exploit that to fight him?
I would like to think that working backwards would be a better form of questioning. Asking what happens to those who do not get cured, then going from there.
Small but noticable detail I always love, whenever they do an intro like "of all the scps this character has seen over the years, from example to example..", they always make sure its different random scps they reference. Its a VERY small detail but I like it :)
SCP 049 has always been one of my favorites, so I've thought of experiments that could bring some facts about The Pestilence into the light. There's 2 I really like to think about that I'll share 1. Could Dr Bright cause changes in the presence of The Pestilence? Say his medallion was placed on one of 049's "zombies", what would happen to it? Would it function like any other human host, or would something change in either Dr Bright or the "zombie"? On that note, what if Dr Bright's medallion was placed on someone who was infected with The Pestilence, 049 cured them, and the medallion was then placed on a new host? Would the procedures have any longterm effects on Bright's consciousness? 2. Could The Pestilence have a type of connection to other anomalous viruses in containment, such as 008 or 610? How do 049's cured patients differ from hosts of 008? Could 049 cure any of these other viruses? They could show 049 instances of these viruses and see what he has to say about them
Fact the plague doctor would not eat unless the the other person had food in front of him also is very wholesome I think the plague doctor is a good guy
Okay. It’s a bit of a hot take, but I think it’s worth it to give it a shot. The Pestilence is chaos. I have observed in this video that the “cured patients” of 049 aren’t wild in any way. So, I think that the reason that 049 doesn’t see a lot of pestilence in the Foundation is because most of it is organized, tidy, orderly. He knows chaos when he sees it.
Because it wasn't revealed in the video. It was click bait. I thought this was a legit SCP channel.. did it change ownership or something? English has a lot of words, maybe pick more accurate ones next time.
Seeing 049 fought against the Scarlet Kings army, I'm completely with him even though he is a mystery. I sure hope he becomes a legit foundation doctor in time.
I really like how they avoided the answers to questions that would give too much away, by having the scientist ramble on too much and as the Doctor said, ask a question with an answer already in mind and just trying to get a confirmation from the good Doctor.
I like the thought that the great pestilence the doctor is trying to cure is death. When he makes the reanimated zombie-esque creations he describes them as cured but not perfectly cured because they’re no longer dead but they aren’t fully human anymore
@@eliscips8833 049 describes the pestilence as being everywhere and stronger in some more than others (those closer to death) so it makes sense for the pestilence to be death
@@mrtnmothball I mean aging, the death by itself. Of course when something crushing you or stabbing it is unnatural death, nobody disagree (but it is also not a disease, but just an act)
I like how you can feel a bit of "frustration or sadness when he admits that the black plague was something even he could not find a fix for. And damn, that sickness was a nightmare
The final question, the one about the pestilence being “Locked away in the subconscious”. I can’t help but feel as if it refers to SCP-5000. If I remember correctly, SCP-5000 is in the collective conscious of all humans, it is the reason we feel pain. Could that be what the Plague Doctor is trying to fight? While it would also be possible that he’s against a combinations of both SCP-5000 & 2718. Which could possible be one SCP but seem as two separate SCPs. Since 5000 is an entity in the collective conscious that feeds off of pain and due to the continued consciousness and the rising pain levels to beyond words in 2718 the Plague Doctor could possible be fighting a single thing while the foundation has all the information and simply doesn’t realize it due to the times of which 5000 and 2718 were discovered or the results of said SCP. I HAVE NO IDEA IF I went off topic and I don’t feel like reading through all of that just to find out.
I felt like there was finally a crack in the mystery, there were some questions that, though the answer being vague as usual, might have actually revealed a small part in all this, like the connection to the scarlet king, or how he got angry after the mention of another entity was brought up or the last theory where it was believed he was removing the sins from someone. There is a hidden context clue somewhere in that whole conversation that we just arent getting
SCP-5000 might actually be related to this. in 5000, the foundation had discovered that there were some things humanity shouldn’t have felt, most notably pain. They realized that there was an entity that lived inside the collective unconsciousness of the human race. It wasn’t exactly clear what this entity’s goals were, I saw somebody theorizing that it wanted to eternally torture everything but I’m not sure why. Whatever it was, the foundation deemed it that the extinction of the human race was a better outcome than whatever it would face while living. Here’s the interesting part. To carry this out, they had to remove the entity from some of their agents. I don’t think it worked for everybody, but some of them who were free experienced symptoms like the inability to feel pain, and seemed oddly inhuman like when one of them was captured and interviewed. Could 049 be referring to the entity as the pestilence and his cure a more primitive version of the foundation’s method of freeing it from their minds? I think it’s an interesting concept because 049’s not the only SCP that could fit into this. 682 was directly mentioned in 5000, and maybe some others could know about the entity as well.
The issue with the doctor from a story telling perspective is that he can't be written to actually have any developement. He's frustrating to "learn about" because it just goes in circles. At least with things like the guy who kills you for seeing his face, we've seen stories where he is pacified for good or has calm interactions with other SCPs. It'd be nice to have developement for the doctor in these ways.
The moment where 049 told that he won't share any info straight due to his and doctor's safety kinda made me feel like the Pestilence somehow related to SCP literally called [REDACTED], or the SCP that steals everything or everyone that has info about it
What if the Great Dying is a cognito hazard and that 049 is cagey because to talk about it in detail would cause it to spread, or something equally repulsive to him?
Secondary, possible Pestilence explanation, perhaps it is our influence on the reality of the SCP multiverse. By our, I mean us; the people of this layer of reality. Curing people could mean making them insignificant characters in the wider mythos, reducing our influence on them.
049: "Doctor, I'm afraid I can't tell you what the pestilence is" Dr: "but why??" 049: "because i don't know what the fuck it is al right? There I've said it, now let me finish My damn fish!"
Back to SCP-096 and SCP-682, they've all down something that affects another person greatly... Which would explain The Great Dying, when someone else does something to another person it can cause that person a sense of death, or can kill them. Or, the great dying is referring to the Plague Doctor killing someone, then bringing them back to life to cure them of killing. I just thought of another thing, when the plague Doctor cured SCP-096, he yelled out "YES, YES, I'VE DONE IT..." After that he cured him of his curse... The curse being death, hatred, or killing someone else. So it's multiple things. When the doctor said the researcher had no pestilence. He could've been saying he would still live, he was fond of what he does and of other people, and he doesn't want to kill someone else, but help them. He cured every patient of their ability to hate, kill, or disobey his orders(being disobedience), which would explain SCP-682 he has a hatred of all life, wants to kill. Being why The Plague Doctor said the pestilence was low in the facility... No death at that time, no thoughts of killing, not lying all the time. When he said "I guess it affects things other than humans, too. He didn't know about all the other anomalies there. Which is why he said it was low... Not knowing about all the death, killing, and hatred. This would mean The Great Dying is the killing of something, hatred of something, and hurting someone or something.
So from this interview I think I have a picture of the pestilence: considering that 049 dodged the question so readily about the pestilence being artificial, I think that it might be. And considering his reaction to the Black Lord, I thank that the Black Lord is the one who created it. But this is not a sickness of the body, but a sickness of the spirit. One that travels through information, causing negative emotions in all it afflicts. If you cast your minds to scp-5000, we already know that negative feelings are not something humans are supposed to be feeling. If we look at the pestilence from this angle then the Doctor’s behavior actually makes sense. If he were to just flat out say what the pestilence is then that would only strengthen it. So the Doctor needs to use a subtler method, giving non-answers and half-truths in the hopes that his fellow doctors will be able to piece it together themselves. Scp-049’s silence speaks a million words.
The Pestilence is related to none other than the story of SCP - 5000, and I don't mean the suit. This also explains why SCP-682 calls humans disgusting.
i always thought pestilence was just evil, i thought 049 was trying to cure evil and create world peace, i mean, technically turning everyone into zombies who are cooperative is world peace. plus, it's sort of in the name, pestilence. pest
Hear me out. SCP-049 says that the Pestilence is the cause of pain, war, disease, and suffering. Now, not that many people know about the SCP-5000 tale, but it's shown that, in the end, the Entity is the root cause of pain, emotion, and other things. SCP-682 is shown to have known about the Entity, and its killing of humans is its way of fighting the Entity. SCP-049 says that the Pestilence is running rampant through SCP-682. This shows one of two things. 1. SCP-049 is on the side of the Entity, and the Pestilence is possibly people trying to discover or investigate the Entity or its effects, but that really doesn't make that much sense. 2. SCP-049 is just misguided/doesn't have all of the information. We've seen that people cured by SCP-049 don't feel pain or emotion, and don't naturally die. Now, in the video, when asked if the Pestilence is something that lives in the subconscious, SCP-049 won't answer. When people talked about the Entity in the SCP-5000 tale, their words were actually redacted in the minds of people that the Entity still had control over, and an entire group of people died because someone talked about the Entity. SCP-049 said that death wasn't natural, and in the SCP-5000 tale, it's shown that pain isn't natural. The Entity causes pain, and, possibly, death (which, as shown by Project Dammerung, leads to even more pain), which SCP-049's cure gets rid of, along with emotion. The Entity suppresses information about itself, lives in your subconscious, and causes death, pain, and emotions. SCP-049 won't answer when asked if the Pestilence is in the subconscious, and his cure gets rid of what the Entity causes. If this isn't enough, the SCP-5000 tale says that the Foundation developed a cure. A "cure". That gets rid of pain, emotion, and natural death. If the Entity suppressed information about itself, then I don't think the Foundation would successfully be able to create a cure on their own if they kept having their memories suppressed, seeing as they know nothing about SCP-055, except that it isn't spherical. Despite this, they still created a cure. The only two sources of information I know of would've been SCP-682 or SCP-049. SCP-682 probably couldn't have helped, as it most likely doesn't have that much medical knowledge, but SCP-049 could have, as the cure they're already working on has the same effects as the SCP-5000 tale's cure. True, the current cure that SCP-049 is working on basically mutates people into mindless zombies and disfigures them, but as SCP-049 said, it's a work in progress. The people in the SCP-5000 tale did act like mindless drones, and shuffled around…like zombies, you could say. SCP-049 sees SCP-682 as being infected with the Pestilence most likely because of how much suffering it has caused. If something causes this much suffering, it must be infected, right? Well, no. I don't think SCP-049 even fully understands what the Pestilence is. I think the Entity might also be suppressing SCP-049's memory, but due to the fact that he's anomalous, it doesn't completely work. SCP-049 sees SCP-682 and the suffering it causes, and, not fully understanding the Pestilence or the Entity, but understanding it enough, thinks it's infected. SCP-682 knows about the Entity, though, shown through it saying basically "Oh, I see you've found it." when they discovered the Entity in the "Disgusting" tale. Regarding SCP-049 removing parts of people, like their heart (as said in the video), I can't really explain that. TLDR: I believe that the Pestilence is the Entity, and that the cure in the SCP-5000 tale is SCP-049's cure. After finding the Entity, the Foundation worked with SCP-049 and SCP-682 (who just kept reminding them what they were doing) to perfect SCP-049's cure, which was the total elimination of the Entity from the subconscious.

Interesting question, does dr bright have the pestilence? How would scp 049 go about curing a consciousness separated from the body. We could use bright for a lot of tests to ascertain the true nature of the pestilence itself
Hey I was wondering if you could do a video on incident 0? Also known as the final incident of mtf omega 7: Pandora's box, before it was decommissioned, it's a really interesting story, regarding reality ending scenarios and even a tk class timeline faliure.
That’s brilliant. But what are the odds the good Doctor gets too frustrated and decides the trainee lacks the needed scientific inclinations
could the pestilence be arrogance or?
could SCP-5094 teach pestilence?
Maybe the D-Class should also have an interest of medicine

(And If he says it would be a waste of his time and some other doctor should do the job, I would appeal to his ego and tell him that I want the next generation to learn from the BEST doctor in the world)
That's a good idea.

2 issues here
1. From the perspective of 049, every human has the pestilence, so it doesnt matter what human they bring him
2. How can you explain science to a tortoise?, humans simply can't understand the pestilence, so teaching it to others is pointless
nice idea

Did they ever give the Plague Doctor a modern book of medicine focusing on the different diseases, and ask which the pestilence was most like?
The Council says that’s a “horrible idea”, but I think it’s the best idea ever!

096 face is a cognito hazard. You're thinking info Hazard. It's still pretty close tho.
@@wither_klng2881 Thanks, I corrected it.
Someone commented that maybe the pestilence has to do with the scarlet king so mentioning the pestilence will increase his power
to me, this sounds eerily like the results of project dammerung and project pneuma (see: scp 5000)
.......you're suggesting that 049 has never talked about it's true nature and that's why he can know about it but not consider himself infected...? ....that implies an awfully strict restriction on the pestilence's ability to spread, in that 049 sure has seemed to get away with making an awful lot of statements about it while still considering himself not afflicted.
I believe the reason why the Doctor skirts describing the Pestilence exactly is because if he makes very direct references, he'll trigger something terrible, AND be the cause for it.
troublesome, given that if we can't know of it, we can't assess it as a threat properly nor assist in curing it if appropriate.
this sounds eerily like the results of project dammerung and project pneuma to me
Given the answer to the pestilence, the foundation will probably put ALL of its resources in treating it.
He avoids telling the true nature of the pestilence because he does not want the foundation to take his job and terminate him
@@solonovamax I think it is 2718 yes, since he said that death is "unnatural"
What if 049 and the angry lizard are onto something in different forms? This could in the end trigger the scp-5000 scenario…
“What is the Pestilence?”
“It’s what I call my mommy issues, shut up!”
I second this theory. Everytime we think about, or mention *him.* He steps ever closer into our reality. It would only be natural that 049 would want to not speak about him, and the nature of his child.
I mean, it makes sense, but alot of other anomalies know about the scarlet king and arent directly connected to it, but its a valid theory

Based on some of his answers here (particularly at 7:22), I kinda wonder if maybe 049 doesn’t know exactly WHAT the Pestilence is, but considers it enough that he can recognize it and fight it.
or maybe he does but its memtic so he cant tell them even if he wants to
I've always tried to find out what the pestilence is, but after this interview I just think there is no pestilence and SCP-049 is just using it to transfer organisms because he enjoys it.

That's actually a good theory, definitely could be something subconcious or unconscious in the human minds of the Foundation
What if we already know what it is.
My theory is that the foundation already has all the info they need to cure it but don't know themselves (typhoid mary style and be unaware of it)
The doctor probably knows that if the foundation finds out the cure they will terminate him as there is no use for him anymore at that point.
I believe he is deceiving and lying to save his own life
While good on paper the doctor directly dismissed that
SCP 5000 doesn't have SCP-049 getting involved and was a conclusion from 2 researches
SCP 5000 was an event after discovering that pain isn't natural (but an infection) that feeds some eldritch entity using humanity as cattle and that the afterlife is just you still feeling your body rot away as if you were still alive for all eternity with the pain never subsiding because of said infection
O-5 declared to kill all infected individuals to free humanity and terminate that entity, the only occasion where SCP foundation allied themselves with SCP-682
SCP-049 has directly answered the question, pain and agony aren't the Pestillence at 4:54 (in the video at least not sure the animation is of an actual interview done with 049)
There are a lot of hints that the pestilence is the infection of the collective human subconscious talked about in the SCP 5000 event, and it makes sense that the SCP foundation never finds out what this pestilence is, because the moment they do, we know excatly what happens
after all it can affect the brain 049 said and also the nervous system. Which controls everything explaining why it can affect everything
A valid theory could be the pestilence to be cell mutation in a working organism
-It can manifest in literally any body part as cancer in any state or aging in general
-Reason for him not seeing the pestilence that much in a laboric facility could be, because the personal has to be healthy and gets health checks regularly
-The Doctor could not see any pestilence in the inside of the scientist even tho he lied to him AND was scared the Doctor could read his sins (which proved he had some) which proves the pestilence is not a spiritual thing, at least not some kind of evil within the soul
-Subjects who got treated by the pest doctor were basically undead zombies therefore no longer able to age nor to any form of cell reproduction or mutation
The Pest Doktor basically creates non-aging, unevolvable creatures with his treatment and can't find the pestilence in a healthy young man therefore my theory the pestilence is the natural breakdown of DNA a living organism experiences the older it gets.

049 said that the Pestilence is the basic thing known from the school.
I have two theories for what the Pestilence is:

That's a more accurate line of thinking than my previously nebulous understanding, but it still leaves me with so very many questions
Things I picked up on this; •Didn't know that black plague is called the bubonic plague.
• unaware of Typhoid or Typhoid Mary but he is far older than when she was even born
• Every idea of specific individuals mentioned who represent only Pestilence does SCP-O49 dismiss as either a myth or a story.
These need to be shown further
• I also picked up, as I said earlier scp-049 dismissed any individual the doctor mentioned that was regarded solely of Pestilence, but also noticed the two most evil (the scarlet king and the black lord) brought into question, scp-049 had emote a great reaction both times.
That event is known as SCP 5000, it doesn't have SCP-049 getting involved and was a conclusion from 2 researches, SCP 5000 is already dismissed by SCP-049 as pain isn't the Pestillence
A cup of pestilence cure .... you bloody genius.
I think the most likely results for such a test are an "out of range" exception or simply a mix of various liquids from within the doctor's own bag, since his cure is already "most effective".

Based on this interaction - it's probably safe to now say that this "pestilence" is something metaphysical in nature right?
He was nearly offended at the idea that it was magical. He described it/his efforts as purely scientific. The only thing that gave him pause was minutia of misdiagnosis. I- ...... I'm gonna go with no. Not "no" like you're just wrong it simply can't be. But this certainly is NOT the interaction that "cements our ability to safely say it is so" ....def not the interaction where 049 literally scoffed at the idea of that being the case .... XD
Like, maybe he's wrong or lying, but, uuuuh, science def does NOT work by seeing somebody say "no" and then saying "so, yea, right?" xp

Asking what happens to those who do not get cured, then going from there.
ow just stop asking closed questions. just saying
There's 2 I really like to think about that I'll share
They could show 049 instances of these viruses and see what he has to say about them
Plague Doctor: The Pestilence or The Great Dying
Dr. Bright: *L A C T O S E I N T O L E R A N T*
Chaos chaos
Fascinating, 049 has cured the definition of REVEALED.
Because it wasn't revealed in the video. It was click bait. I thought this was a legit SCP channel.. did it change ownership or something? English has a lot of words, maybe pick more accurate ones next time.

I love this. This possibly the best interview with SCP-049 for a long time.
Scp 049 Is so polite and sweet
Seeing 049 fought against the Scarlet Kings army, I'm completely with him even though he is a mystery.
I sure hope he becomes a legit foundation doctor in time.
Turns out the pestilence is The Sloth, or the Scarlet King himself or some other cognitohazard that spreads from the mind to the body
one thing I would ask him, just as a small thing
"do you have the pestilence? have you grown an immunity to it?"
When he makes the reanimated zombie-esque creations he describes them as cured but not perfectly cured because they’re no longer dead but they aren’t fully human anymore
but then everyone would have the pestilence
@@eliscips8833 049 describes the pestilence as being everywhere and stronger in some more than others (those closer to death) so it makes sense for the pestilence to be death
@@mrtnmothball It makes no sense because SCP-049 said that the Pestilence is unnatural, and the death is natural thing.
@@fantastikboom1094 there’s plenty of unnatural death
@@mrtnmothball I mean aging, the death by itself. Of course when something crushing you or stabbing it is unnatural death, nobody disagree (but it is also not a disease, but just an act)
He should have asked:
"What will happen if the pestilence isn't treated?"

Here is a question for 049. "What would happen if you fully explained exactly what the pestilence is to me?"
16:48 mystery solved. The plague doctor is Lucille Bluth
Thanks for this one! Birthday is Monday, videos have been amazing all year for me!!!😊
I felt like there was finally a crack in the mystery, there were some questions that, though the answer being vague as usual, might have actually revealed a small part in all this, like the connection to the scarlet king, or how he got angry after the mention of another entity was brought up or the last theory where it was believed he was removing the sins from someone. There is a hidden context clue somewhere in that whole conversation that we just arent getting
I think he's lying to save his own life.
If the foundation ever finds the cure they would not need the doctor anymore and probably terminate him
The one about cancer might be a clue to how the pestilence acts like it could be incurable without death or maybe the fountain of life
I can't help but think individuality is what 049 is trying to "cure".
Honestly dr. Bright might be onto something, maybe it's something so common and so insignificant to most humans that we overlook it
SCP-5000 might actually be related to this. in 5000, the foundation had discovered that there were some things humanity shouldn’t have felt, most notably pain.
I would love to see some head reasercher teaming up with 049 and helping him develop a perfect cure
SCP-049 called the black lord "villain" and who else does he call by that name? Someone related? An SCP-035?
The moment where 049 told that he won't share any info straight due to his and doctor's safety kinda made me feel like the Pestilence somehow related to SCP literally called [REDACTED], or the SCP that steals everything or everyone that has info about it
Its humanity. He cures your humanity. No feelings, no fears, no “you” it all makes sense
What if the Great Dying is a cognito hazard and that 049 is cagey because to talk about it in detail would cause it to spread, or something equally repulsive to him?
I thought Dr. Bright was no longer allowed to speak to SCPs alone anymore after the Royal Rumble incident.
Fun fact: The horseman known as Pestilence is actually described as one who likes to conquer.
Secondary, possible Pestilence explanation, perhaps it is our influence on the reality of the SCP multiverse. By our, I mean us; the people of this layer of reality. Curing people could mean making them insignificant characters in the wider mythos, reducing our influence on them.
049: "Doctor, I'm afraid I can't tell you what the pestilence is"
Dr: "but why??"
049: "because i don't know what the fuck it is al right?
His French accent has definitely improved throughout the videos.
This also explains why SCP-682 calls humans disgusting.
this has got your best scp 049 video yet. your french accent has really improved and i love how in depth the questions are!!!
This has been the best SCP video I've ever seen. 049 is my Favorite SCP
Could it be that the pestilence has something to do with the scp-5000 story. Maybe he isn't trying to cure death, but rather what happens after...🤔
What a shock, I love this universe but the authors really need to write a cohesive story, which in of itself hard with multiple realities.

TLDR:
I believe that the Pestilence is the Entity, and that the cure in the SCP-5000 tale is SCP-049's cure. After finding the Entity, the Foundation worked with SCP-049 and SCP-682 (who just kept reminding them what they were doing) to perfect SCP-049's cure, which was the total elimination of the Entity from the subconscious.
